With first-chapter allusions to martial arts, "flow," "mind like water," and other concepts borrowed from the East (and usually mangled), you'd almost think this self-helper from David Allen should have been called

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good ideas, but not the whole story
I've been trying to organize my life for over 20 years, and have read innumerable books on the subject. While each one has offered something to add to the puzzle, none of them has told the whole story.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
This book totally helped me out.Great book.I use a plugin for Gmail on Firefox called GTD that integrates these concepts into my email and my productivity has gone through the roof.Awesome book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arianna is a one of a kind woman
Ms Huffington shares precious knowlege and experiences. She is a great woman and a TRUE MODEL that young women like myself look up to. Read the book and make it yours .
5-0 out of 5 stars Her best book and one with some great advise
Having read Ms Huffingtons earlier books, most of which were written when she was in the Republican camp, I was curious as to what the new book would be like and admit I was even hesitant, thinking she may have gone the extreme opposite. But I am so dang impressed and cannot recommend the book highly enough.
4-0 out of 5 stars Because Women Need The Message
I rated this book with 4 stars because so many women are going to recognize themselves in this book; however, I didn't give it five stars because Huffington didn't go far enough into the female or human dilemma. We are riddled with fear because of history, the church, the state, but to make a statement "become fearless" and not back it up with the way to do it, leaves us empty. In Gangi's book, "Forget The Cures, Find The Cause," she also talks about fear, but fear as one of only two emotions, love being the other. To become fearless we have to embrace ourselves with unconditional love, not become warriors in the pack.Huffington's name will sell the book, but readers need to know there are stronger messages written with more heart. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Buy a book on probability instead
This book is mostly built around the idea "I wish it were true = it *is* true".While this book has innate appeal to those looking for meaning in their lives, if you're looking for a firm foundation for understanding coincidences in your life (i.e. intellectual integrity), you'd be better off buying an introduction to probability.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything Happens For A Reason
I enjoyed this quick read.I did skip over a few chapters that I didn't feel were pertinent to me, but still really enjoyed this book.If you are looking to see if you are on the right path in life, read God Winks. And then, start paying attention, you'll be surprised at what comes to mind!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly enjoyable
This was an enjoyable book from the first page to the last.We all have moments of coincidence and this book puts into perspective that these moments do not "just happen"...putting the focus on God. I love the imagery of God "winking" at such a moment as if to say, "Hey there kid, I'm thinking about you right now."Now whenever a coincidence happens in my life, I find myself winking back to say, "Thank You, God...I'm thinking about You right now, too!"Very well written.Hats off to SQuire Rushnell for an exceptionally good book! ... 2-0 out of 5 stars (Mostly) Dyer's Version of the Law of Attraction
"Getting in balance is not so much about adopting new strategies to change your behaviors, as it is about realigning yourself in all of your thoughts so as to create a balance between what you desire and how you conduct your life on a daily basis." - From the book

5-0 out of 5 stars Being in Balance
A great little book, small enough to keep on your desktop at work, so you can read snippits frequently and stay in-balance.Looks at life from a "road less traveled" perspective, more of a bigger-picture/real meaning-of-life perspective, such as how to really align your thinking with what you want, so that you can actually achieve what you want--getting rid of negativity and the "I can't" mentality, and related subject matter. Dr. Dyer has a great deal of wisdom, which he shares in all his writings, CDs, and DVDs.I highly recommend this and any of his material. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Are you an HSP? Are you easily overwhelmed by stimuli?Affected by other people's moods? Easily startled? Do you need to withdraw during busy times to a private, quiet place? Do you get nervous or shaky if someone is observing you or competing with you?HSP, shorthand for "highly sensitive person," describes 15 to 20 percent of the population. Being sensitive is a normal trait--nothing defective about it. But you may not realize that, because society rewards the outgoing personality and treats shyness and sensitivity as something to be overcome. According to author Elaine Aron (herself an HSP), sensitive people have the unusual ability to sense subtleties, spot or avoid errors, concentrate deeply, and delve deeply. This book helps HSPs to understand themselves and their sensitive trait and its impact on personal history, career, relationships, and inner life. The book offers advice for typical problems. For example, you learn strategies for coping with overarousal, overcoming social discomfort, being in love relationships, managing job challenges, and much more. The author covers a lot of material clearly, in an approachable style, using case studies, self-tests, and exercises to bring the information home. The book is essential for you if you are an HSP--you'll learn a lot about yourself. It's also useful for people in a relationship with an HSP. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have!
If you consider yourself a sensitive person, you MUST read this book!It is also very useful for those who encounter sensitives(i.e.: teachers, doctors, employers, etc)Finally! A book that helps me understand why I am the way I am(sensitive)helps me to use this to my best ability instead of being afraid. And also to educate those close to me on my sensitivity.
1-0 out of 5 stars Too Psychologically Deep
This book is very hard to understand. It seems as though one has to have a little bit of a background in psychology (or at least an understanding of it) to undertand the nomenclature of the book and to understand what is being comunicated. For the previously mentioned reasons I did not like the book.I expected it to be reader friendly and very practical(to suggest tips in one's life he/she could actually practice- put to use).It is not.

1-0 out of 5 stars Artist point of view...
I only read half of the book. I couldn't take it anymore and had to put it down.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Worthwhile Read even for time management junkies
The Stephen R. Covey engine has kicked out numerous books on self-help, and they consult 200 out of the top 500 Fortune companies. After all of those books and years, they have heard enough stories and waded through enough crisis situations to get a good handle on what works and does not work in all of those environments.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent thesis camouflaged by flowery writing
The author of "First Things First," Stephen Covey, Roger Merrill, and Rebecca Merrill, are all involved with the Franklin Covey Company--a company most known for training individuals and institutions in "The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People."The purpose of "First Things First" is to provide an expanded, fuller treatment of some aspects of the Seven Habits. These aspects include the concepts of "Sharpening the Saw" (making time to renew and develop your mental, social, physical, and spiritual health), Quadrant II (things that are important yet not urgent), Personal Mission Statements, What Matters Most (making sure you spend your time in the most important activities and relationships), Roles and Goals, Synergy and Inter-dependence, and Leadership Styles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book onCognitive Thinking
This book deals with Cognitive Thinking. It gives the 10 "cognitive distortions" that we do the most. It gives information on how "thoughts" become "feelings". If we can change of method of thinking, we can change the way that we feel.
2-0 out of 5 stars If your problems are due to negative thinking alone...
...then this very upbeat book by Dr. Burns can indeed help. But I very much doubt the central thesis that thoughts control feelings and that substituting positive for negative thought patterns is the key to happiness.
4-0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth the money and time
This book is extremely useful. It is well worth your time and money if you are feeling down or are looking for a way to cope with issues or problems in your life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book
I truly gained an insight into my own Self-Esteem issues as I read this book.I began to use some of the techniques suggested in this book and I have noticed quite a change in my attitude. This book is easy to read and understand.I appreciate the concepts of self-pacing as you read through this book.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in Psychology or in just building your personal self-esteem.

5-0 out of 5 stars First and Last Self-help Book You'll Need
I feel sorry for all the people who are not aware of this book, because it covers just about everything you will ever need to improve your self-esteem. I'm sure if you are anything like me you have read just about every self-help book that is out there and then along comes this book that blows them all out of the water. well here it is, this is the book, I know because i have read and applied the lessons in this book to myself and have been preaching about it to whomever will listen. And listening they have, so i haven't seen my book in some time, in fact i haven't seen a couple of these books for some time, because they keep getting circulated, amongst my friends and their friends.

3-0 out of 5 stars Great book with minor flaws
The first half of this book is excellent and goes very well into the details about building up a solid sense of selfworth. From the middle of the book, I thought it would go even further into details, but to my disappointment, from then on it begins to look more like the regular quick-fix selfhelp books. That is, a lot of talk about visualisation and meditation, and some fluffy tips on improving communication and setting up some goals in certain areas of life.

5-0 out of 5 stars i wouldnt be where i am now without it
Like many other people who have posted their opinion of this book, I too have struggled for most of my life with Severe Depression, Severe Anxiety, and manic bipolar disorder- which led to a number of suicide attempts and constant ideation...Soon after finally recieving treatment, My therapist had recommended that i take a look at this book- at first i wasnt very motivated, but i decided that i dont HAVE TO do it in ten days- so i spread it out longer- doing one chapter a week and talking/discussing everything with my therapist. It was very helpful to have worked on it with someone who could help me understand everything and be able to help me look at MY situations and apply them to what i was working on. I cant even begin to tell you about what a difference this book has made im my life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Self esteem
Very Good and helpful book hoping it will keep me on the right track where I want to be.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very helpful adjunct cognitive therapy
This book was recommended to me when I went into a major depressive episode subsequent to job loss. I'm only part way through the book so far, but have found the exercises to be extremely helpful in understanding the negative thoughts that are contributing to my funky mood and seeing how distorted they are. The next part of the book deals with how to change these negative thoughts into more realistic ones. I'm looking forward to working through the rest of the exercises. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Theres a crack in everything, thats how the light gets in!
This book cracks me up! The insights and the stories illustrated for me a reality that I was unsure existed outside my own head. To see the experience of brokenness not as the end of a life - but as the beginning is delightful. I have read it cover to cover a few times, and now pick it up randomly on a regular basis, flip it open and read a few pages. It is a guaranteed day changer.

4-0 out of 5 stars A powerful spritual truth
This book reflects well a great deal of the journey I've travelled and the things that have been taught to me through painful experience, open and honest discussion with spritually focused friends, and oodles of diverse theological and spiritual readings and studies.

4-0 out of 5 stars Review by professional life coach, this is simple and powerful
This is a simply written book that contains very powerful and useful ideas about managing your inner critic. It focuses on mindfulness of your process and disidentifying with the voices in your head that undermine you on a daily basis.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fairy tale picture book for adults
This book is a light way to deal with something serious -that could kill you spiritually every day and every moment.Playfulness has importance in people. It spoke to my inner child-the inner child in you is the one who let in these "seeds of doubt"(gremlins if you will) in the first place and I suppose it is this child who must release them back to the universe. While reading this book-a fast read by the way-I got thefeeling that this seasoned professional author doesn't hang with the usual crowd of stodgy "take themselves too seriously" psych types, and I was so proud of him for stepping apart- for having the courage and wisdom -and writing this book in his own unique style that spoke to the part of me that agreed to release and or silence the "gremlin " in me- it is a gift to the world.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little bit lightweight
This book has some great insights into getting past your ego blocks and old personality limitations.

A fantastic book of weekness and strength, a human being is a mixture of weekness and strength equally and those among us who take work with thier strength come out successful regardless of the profession they are involve in, they can focus on thier strength rather than weakness, positive attitude regardless all the adversaries of a life. I learned a great deal out of this Marcus Buckingham book and I strongly recommend to the book lovers don't miss this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars What a Novel Concept
By:Jeffrey W. Bennett, Founder of LayMentor and author of Under the Lontar Palm.
2-0 out of 5 stars Ok~ but I think the Keirsey Temperment Test is more accurate - and cheaper.
This book has its good points. If anything, it helps you put into words what you wantfrom a supervisor, but it is not very accurate. The online test does not account for a difference between when 2 of their options are both exactly like you, or if they don't describe you at all. This messes up the results, and it did not describe me very well. I am not just in denial. I have taken a lot of personality type tests, like the Keirsey Temperment sorter and have a pretty good idea of my strengths. So, although this book is pretty good in making you understand the importance of incouraging your strengths, it still leaves you wondering about how you fit in to their terminology.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing wise soul
My wife, daughter and myself have been reading these books over the past few months. My wife and I sit on the deck and read several chapters each morning. What a wonderful way to start the day.Rachel shares herself with us in a way few people would. We are blessed by her books and her life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rare treasures
These two books are both excellent. They are the kind you read and re-read over and over again admiring the wisdom of the author and wishing that you had an ounce of her rare and wonderful insight! They make wonderful gifts for friends going through a cancer experience or a hard time in general.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must for your reading collection

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, the best book on the topic
If you have the vaugest inkling that you are a narcissist or are in a relationship with one, buy and read superb book immediatey.Sam has done the world a great service by elucidating all the manifestations, deceptions and behaviors that are created by narcissism.Since narcissism is so accepted in our culture, it is at first hard to see the damage that it can do, since narcissists make such entertaining and accomplished people.Yet the damage to themselves and others can be catastropic. As a narcissist myself, I can tell you that this book has played a tremendous role in my own healing. If you are a narcissist, amaze the world by reading this book, taking to heart what it has to say, and changing yourself for the better. You'll enjoy life a lot more, and people will enjoy you more as well.My only complaint is the high price of this book--but it is still worth it, and still worthy of five stars.

Your mateis not hitting you andthey arenot verbally abusing you so how can this be an abusive relationship you are thinking? . Yet you are either angry or crying all the time? Do you feel your own sanity slipping away? Are there constant "miscommunications" between you andyour partner?Does your relationship history keep changing? When yourpartner doessomething nice for you does it have an underlying feeling of contempt to it and you can't figure out why? Does this person keep telling youthey love you but promises are rarely if ever kept? .Do you feel theyhave compartmentalized theirlife and you are not allowed in certain areas. Do you feel like an intruder in their home when you visit? It is irrational to think something is wrong. Your mate would have to be crazy to be in a relationship with you if they don'twant to be with you..If they don't want the relationship why are theyspending hours upon hours going through relationship talks and counseling to keep the relationship going? Of course theywant itto be successful... or do they? Are you asking yourself these questions? Then this book is a MUST READ.

4-0 out of 5 stars Too many chiefs...
I've listened to the audio version of this book and I found it to be insightful and enlightening.I've also read the other reviews about this book and-well it is obvious that is just isn't for every one.Speaking to anyonymous about recovered memories, I have to say that I disagree completely.I am a victim of childhood abuse (not incest.I dissociated those memories and from time to time I acted them out(described as re-enactment by those who have studied PTSD).No Psychologist has told me this and in fact I went to prison because I refused to go to mental health after being court ordered to do so, specifically because I did not want them manipulating me or my thoughts.
