Learn to let go.
I have been recommending this book to my astrology clients and people who take my Creative Living class for years.It helps its readersto focus on how to change difficult patterns relational patterns--which we all know is not easy.Readers feel the kindness and compassion of the author as well as her expertise throughout the book.
A must for everyone!!!
This audio book was a great source of information, not only for helping me figure out my past anger issues, but how to deal with future issues.The examples in the book were real life and I could place myself in those situations.I have listened to it more than once, and I still keeping finding ways to avoid anger and work on the real issues with my kids, parents, co-workers and spouse.Again, a must for everyone...it may sound strange,but would make a great wedding present!

Excellent GuideBook

For beginners only....
This book should be more aptly called "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Boring Sex" as it would more likely state what it really discusses. I have read a number of books on this topic, and have expected it to deliver the goods, but it only spoke on a superficial, elementary level. I think readers deserve more than that! Has anyone reading this book looked at "The Science of Sex" by Dr. Pezzi, MD (google it)? I challenge readers to compare the two books, and see which delivers what it promises.

You don't have to be an "idiot" to enjoy this book!
Whether or not you're well-skilled in sexual matters or a complete beginner, this is THE book to read on the subject. I thought the author did an amazing job with all things sex. It reminded me a bit of "The Guide to Getting it On", as it was very in-depth and revealing look into human sexuaity. But it wasn't text-booky at all.

Cute and VERY USEFUL
I haven't read a lot of books on men because I didn't think that I'd find one that I could actually USE. A friend recommended this one and I've been recommending it ever since. A lot of what I used to take as being "normal" I've realized is just weak behavior from men who don't really want me around for what I want to be around for! Good riddance to them!!!!! Half of a man or a piece of a man is NOT EVER acceptable, especially after reading and re-reading this book!

DATING MINIMUM REQUIRED READING
If you have already launched yourself into the outer world of dating without any navigation map, do not despair!This book and 2 others by the author, Greg Behrendt, will be all you need to reach your destination!You will laugh, you will cry, and you just may end up married after all!In any case, reading this may bring the clarity that has been so missing in your head & heart!This book is one of the greatest gifts that you can give yourself or to that really messed up best friend of yours!

I bought this book because I've been hearing the title tossed about.While stating the obvious dating wisdom, it's not clear for whom this book is for.Is it a "reinflate my ego after the breakup" or a break-up instigator ?Laced with the hackneyed "men are pigs" buzz phrases, this book presents a series of fake letters and "statistics" as real.Email is not an important form of communication ?Has this author never had a good IM or cell-phone message session?That's the modern form for love letters.Perhaps he's just too old to comment on the communication of those currently at breeding age.

The book I wish I hadwritten
I am a play therapist, author of "The Successful Divorce, In The Eyes of the Child" course and have taught parenting divorced for nine years. This is the book that says it all. The authors teach in clear logical manner how to co parent your children. They are sensitive to the pain both parents and children feel post divorce and teach how to proceed in parenting. I frequently use sections of their book in teaching to remind parents that they must still work together enough to meet children's needs. This is a concise book, no long drawn out narratives or tales of others pain... just the facts and how to avoid the pitfalls. when i divorced two years ago, reasonably contentiously and with a four year old daughter, the best advice i got was to read this book.i did, with highlighter in hand, and found it absolutely invaluable.i continue to this day to consider it absolutely invaluable!such that, i just ordered a gift copy for my brother and his new wife, to help them with my niece and her co-parent.that gift brings the total i've purchased for others up to five.its an unfortunate reality that there will probably be more in the future, but the book helps immensely and so there will be gifts.

Trust this author with your children
I went through a high-conflict divorce in Connecticut in 2004, complete with restraining orders, police, and the whole 9 yards.As I saw the divorce approaching, I researched a great deal of divorce/parenting literature on my own, hoping to find a framework of something my (soon-to-be) ex and I could agree to work with, and I found this book.I read it and gave a copy to my ex.I also found an divorce/custody attorney who would focus on our children's interests, and his very first recommendation was to get this book and see Dr. Thayer in her practice jointly with my ex.

Great book about marriage.
This is one of the better books I've read regarding the subject of marriage. I've always been hesitant about going the final step and tying the knot, but this book really helped clear up some issues for me. I bought it along with "How to Meet and Marry the Right Person" by Rolf Nabb and think that finally I am ready to take the next step.

Great resource for engaged couples
I have used this book for years with couples who come to me to get married (I am a pastor). The book begins with several mythical expectations that many have of marriage - which lead to greater disappointment during marriage. It helps the couple understand the nature of true love - as passion, intimacy and commitment. Though the authors do not point it out, the Parrotts' triangular view of love parallels the New Testament description of love as eros (passion), philia (intimacy), and agape (commitment).
One of the best in this genre.
Husband and wife Doctoral team, Les and Leslie Parrott have established themselves as the gurus of modern marriage counseling. This book, SAVING YOUR MARRIAGE BEFORE IT STARTS: SEVEN QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE (AND AFTER) YOU MARRY is, I believe, their best work.

The Grief Recovery Handbook

Add this book to your Grief Toolbox
I found this handbook to be helpful, informative, and full of "aha" moments.There was much that I could relate to, especially the lists of commonly heard advice (misinformed, though well-meaning) intended by others as consolation.For example, I was comforted to learn that I wasn't the only one who found the comment "They lived a long life" to be insipid, irritating, and irrelevant.I really liked the authors' simple writing style and clear, concise instructions.The only potential downside to this book is that its effectiveness will be limited if you are working through your grief alone.Many of the exercises are intended to be done with a partner, and although the authors revised the book to include alternatives for those working alone, it's just not the same.As in PTSD work, much of the healing comes from the act of verbalizing thoughts and feelings to a trusted ally.Unfortunately, many of us - especially those who have been ostracized or have chosen a path of isolation - do not have this luxury.Still, I would recommend adding this book to your grief toolbox.

Audio version...loved it!
I listened to this audio as I drove to and from work.In a nutshell it tells you that you shouldn't attempt to communicate with someone who has broken up with you.No matter what reason you have for doing it, the other party is going to think you are pathetic. I broke up with my last boyfriend only because I think he didn't have the guts to.He was seeing me less and less.It didn't take a rocket scientist to realize he was no longer interested.I did tell him I felt him pulling away and I was going to make things easier for him and leave him alone.I had his housekey and instead of asking him to pick it up, I mailed it to him and communication stopped completely.I never attempted to call him or run into him only because I remember how I felt when another ex did that to me.Instead of wanting him back I got angry that he was stalking me and it made me dislike him all the more.Anyhow, this last boyfriend recently called me and asked if we could 'give it another try'.I politely said no that I had been there done that and knew it would never work.Here's the thing, he pursued me in a way I never dreamed he would ever stoop so low to do.I know that had I called him or 'bumped into him' after we broke up he would have never come back.I never did return to him even though I was seeing no one else because I knew if it didn't work the first (and second) time around, it wouldn't magically work the third or fourth.For what it's worth, the book was great, it gave good advise and did it with humor.If Greg writes another book, I will get that one too.I enjoy his candor and also watch his television show daily.

Wake up girl!
I read this book in the midst of a train wreck break-up that dragged on and on for around four months.I am an intelligent woman with a few years of experience under my belt and a healthy dose of cynicism about the opposite sex but as Amiira says in the book "He was my kryptonite."I went against every instinct and every bit of logic just to hang onto this jackass a little longer so he could continue to string me along and jerk me around as he saw fit.After I moved out of his house, he was still in and out of my bed, doing the famed drunk dial on a nightly basis and generally sending mixed signals."I love you" "I want something different".I quit my job, moved 50 miles away and still, I couldn't shake him.

Excellent Book for All Who Love Women
Lesbian Sex Tips is exactly the kind of in-depth, no-holds barred, entertaining sex manual that everyone who loves women should have by their bedside. And that includes ALL women-loving-women, bi, genderqueer, transgendered, intersexed - you name it, this book is inclusive for all. Heck, even the men that pick it up can always use more education - and this manual doesn't discriminate. To which, I say hell yeah! Too many sex guides don't take into account the wide spectrum of human sexuality. Not true for this book. Hands-on, and that should be taken quite literally, this is one of the best sex guides out there for those who desire to put the heat back in the bedroom, or for those just getting started in the wondrous world of loving women.

This book is full of valuable information for anyone, regardless of their sexual orientation. A helpful guide for individuals who are interested in learning more about themselves and others.

LOTS of info for one book, and that's a good thing
I thought before I read this book that I would know most of what was in it already...but I had no idea of the scope of what was inside. I'm impressed. The authors went from a to z, not leaving any stone unturned. The chapters on anatomy, safe sex and making love are well written. And I personally am glad they included the chapters on communication, abuse, counselling, etc. The rights & discrimination section, especially Heterosexual Privileges, I found intriguing. It is obviously based on life in the USA, and as the authors are Americans, that would make sense. Things are a little different here in Canada, but there are still some similarities. Including the list of resources at the end of the book was a great idea...I'm sure many people will find this helpful. I'm positive that many people will find the WHOLE book helpful. ... Read more

Must have the book to go w/ this book.
I am only writing this to warn others you'll need the other book to be able to use this workbook. I don't have the other book so I have not been able to use any of the workbook.

Growth is potentially risky
This is, in part a response to the review by Abashed. As someone who has done both self-directed couple growth exercises and counselor directed exercises, I can say that the book probably needs to be used with a degree of caution. I certainly intend to buy and use a copy. BUT, I am aware that if, as we use the exercises, a potential problem starts to surface -- then it is time to seek a professional who is trained in Imago therapy.
Beware!
This Workbood back-fired.The theory appears sound, but when it came to my wife and me working through the Workbook together, we found a serious trap (surely unintended) by diligently following the instructions, exactly.

An Important Book, Poorly Written
Ms Evans has made a ground-breaking stand in helping people identify a controlling relationship.The behaviours of "controlling people" are made clear and unmistakeable, which will definitely be a comfort to people who may have felt that they could not put their finger on precisely what is wrong in their relationship with a controller.As has been previously noted, the rather fluffy terms Evans uses throughout the work (Teddy, Spellbreakers, etc.) do tend to grate after a while, and Evans does not go on to give much advice on how to cope with a controller once s/he is identified.If the author is leading up to something, I'd love to see it.As it stands, it's spot-on for identifying the problem, but lacking in how to solve it.

controlling people
This was a very enlightening book. I recommend it for everyone, who is in any type of relationship. It helped me deal with every day issues. I bought ir for my 21 year old daughter who keeps dating these controlling men. Then I read it after she did. And I was even more enlightened.

Catch this lifeline before the ship sinks, with you still aboard!
After 8 months of a roller coaster relationship and one month in therapy, this book gave me back my sanity. Ms Evans exposes the mysteries about controlling people and the secrets that they struggle to hide, at your expense.

Another great book by Joshua Harris.This is a must read for both ladies and gentlemen who are considering dating or courting.

Principles for Relationships
There is not much I can say that has not already been said but Joshua Harris' books were very helpful to me. 'Boy meets Girl' and 'I Kissed dating Goodbye' helped me to put my life into perspective and showed me where I've been going wrong and what I've been doing right in terms of dating and friendship.

Some people may like to consider this book legalistic or even self-righteously written. I stongly disgree with them.

Yuck
I was looking for help with my relationship addiction.This book is so stuffed with mumbo jumbo I couldn't get through the first chapter.

Some interesting parts
This book does have some interesting parts. I wanted to see and learn more about myself, but went away without much more than I've already learned. There are some interesting stories about other people, some I could understand, and others I really could not relate. So I gave the four stars if perhaps there are people out there that can relate to the stories of other people.

I was able to refresh my memory, which is required, in not being an enabler, being responsable for my actions and respecting myself again.

This book changed my life

Life changing
I purchased this book a few years back.At the time, I wanted to blame everyone else for my shortcomings.Recently I have read to book twice.Every man should have this book.This book is only good if you approach it with an open mind.Meaning if you are in denial about being a nice guy, this book or any other book wont help you.After years of being a nice guy and being disappointed, I am enjoying life alot more.

I love it so far!
Im not a big reader, but when I realized my marriage needed help I was willing to read every book I could get my hands on if it would help. Im just in the third chapter of this one but I can already see a difference inmy communication with others and I cant wait to keep reading! What I really like about this book is the way it's written. It seems as though Mr Gottman writes as if he were speaking in converstation and adds a bit of humor as well. I am really enjoying this book! 4 stars just because im not done with it yet, but I think it will be a 5!

Don't buy if Affair was with an OLD FLAME
Glass has some good suggestions on how to rebuild your marriage after an affair,however she made some very troubling comments in regards to affairs with ex's and/or "Old Flames".Some of the comments almost seem to encourage affairs with Ex's.Her are a few examples:
This truly did save my sanity and our relationship!
Oh boy...Was I a mess after I found out about the affair.I couldn't stop obsessing about it and the anger stayed at the boiling point at our house.He was too immersed in shame to reach out and help.We wanted to save our relationship but weren't sure how.We couldn't manage a civil conversation about anything and I wanted to know every detail.I happened across a magazine article about cheating that suggested this book.I went straight home, ordered it, paid for overnight shipping, and started reading as soon as it arrived.It definitely helped me regain my sanity and helped us talk in a constuctive way so the healing could start.He wouldn't read the book but I shared the advice it gave and we both followed it.We've succeeded and strangely enough, are probably doing better now than before the affair.If you've been the victim of an affair and wonder when the pain will start to subside, I strongly suggest you order this book.When it arrives, put everything else aside and just read and read and start to regain your sanity.
Root of the problem
I was quite impressed with this book, it is alot to get through, but focuses on the root of the problem and encourages self analysis.In effect giving you some pointers to be your own therapist, and work through the current siuation into the next phase of life after infidelity.I only give it four stars because it can be a little repeatative and doesn't focus much on the effects on and ways to deal with your children at this tough time. ... Very different than most relationship advice books.
This book presents a unique approach to snagging guys.It teaches you how to use psychology to your advantage.The author argues that there are 3 types of men: visual, auditory, feelings.You speak to and treat each one differently.For example, when talking to a visual man, you say stuff like, "I SEE why you have that opinion".It makes them think that you really are on the same level and that you understand them.I can see why, from a logical point of view, that her advice and techniques would be successful.I was intrigued very much so by her "method" and have yet to try it for myself.To be honest, it wasn't what I expected.Sometimes, it got too wrapped up in psychology that it started to make relationships a little impersonal and mechanical.Well, at least she has her PH.D., so I guess her approach is accurate.I'd still recommend this, though, if you want a different read.

Although this another tome aimed primarily toward women, as a gay man who is also searching for love, I could not resist picking up this book--and boy am I glad I did.I had my "queer eye" on a fellow at work named Jerry for a long time, but he never seemed interested in me.But finally I applied the techniques described in this fine book, and soon I found I couldn't keep Jerry away from me!Soon we were expressing our affection for each other anywhere we could and every way we could; the bathroom, the boss's office, the movie theater, the Denny's parking lot, you name it.It was the best two-and-a-half weeks of my life.Then Jerry left me, called me a few homophobic slurs, and went back to his estranged wife, but I will always be thankful for this book for allowing to experience some of the best times of my life.

This book isn't worthless, but it's not very good either.Cabot encourages women to be positive, specific and proactive in their approach to men, which I appreciate.She devotes a good portion of the book to the "love languages"--auditory, visual, and feeling.This information, so long as it's not pushed to the extreme or used by a manipulator, is interesting and could help people in any sort of relationship.However, ultimately, this is still a "man-hunting" book, with all that that phrase implies.I think that Cabot's approach requires a bit of tunnel vision, a bit of obsession about men, and a lot of manipulation.Take what you can from it, but I think that Sherry Argov's Why Men Love [...]is a better investment. ...
