Strategies for dealing with the opposite sex
This book not only explains the differences between men and women but also gives strategies to each sex for dealing with those differences. For example men and women have different values. Men tend to value competence and accomplishments while women tend to value relationships. Women tend to express their caring by offering unsolicited advice that is often causes men to feel incompetent. Women need to express how they feel about their problems, while men interpret this as blaming them for their problems. Men often need time alone to solve their problems while women interpret this as not caring. If everyone practiced the methods in this book the sexes would get along much better. The book, however, is at times dry reading.

Outstanding
I very much wanted to get into this little known science of NLP, brainchild of Richard Bandler and John Grinder, for some time. After careful examination of similar books I chose this one after reading some of the page excerpts.

Great book
This book pretty much sums up all a man needs to know about picking up women. My only problem was the approach; Clink helped me practically step-by-step on how to get better at the initial approach. He also helps with keeping a conversation and when to stop it. Its just a fantastic book.
Not the best but decent for the price
I've read everything on the subject of seduction.SO its hard for me to view books as someone who is reading it for the first time.I've also read hundreds of articles on seduction and posted the best of them on my website The Seduction Bible.So lets just say, im educated.THat being said:
READS LIKE A LOVE LETTER TO "SPEED SEDUCTION" SHAM ROSS JEFFRIES...
... and although there's some inspiring ideas to be found here, there's also some pretty crazy schemes that could get you into serious trouble (lying in wait along bike paths and jumping in the way of attractive females at the last moment in order to meet them???... that's the kind of thing that'll scare the bejeezus out of women, create a creepy first impression and possibly even get you arrested)... his 3-second rule is also highly questionable: immediately approaching every attractive woman you see within 3 seconds of spotting her - first of all, fussy types with discriminating tastes need a little more time to decide who's worth pursuing and, secondly, in a nightclub scenario, this approach will only make you appear to be a desperately impulsive horndog - and no woman likes being hit on by a horndog (and neither do their jealous boyfriends, a critical "X" factor you have to ascertain before zooming yourself into an awkward situation)... instead, think like one of the big cats on the African plains hunting its prey - be patient, play it cool, scope the room, zero in on your chosen targets, assess their situation and figure out what your approach will be before making your move - after all, what's the big hurry? But if you happen to lock eyes with one of your targets, NOW would be the time to implement the 3-second theory (be cool about it - don't cause drinks to spill on your way over - just casually move in beside her).

Good Book
A very Good Book! I learned a lot of new stuff but... Alot of the stuff I already knew...

Mandatory Reading for the Dating Idiot
This book should be required reading for any female college graduate, if not high school. It helped me to understand and ease the pain of past relationships as well as change patterns for future ones. Kudos to the men who were inspired to write it and gratitude to all the men who contributed to its content. Well done!

Not all the hype
I picked up the book after reading a review of it in O Magazine (Oprah Winfrey's publication).The book is an easy read, but the content doesn't explicity follow the chapter titles, ie. How to make a man fall in love, etc.Maybe I'm a bit too rigid, but when the book says that there are three things you can do to make man think of you as the one, and doesn't follow it with a list of three things, I feel a little letdown.

Mediocre
I agree, the book has many, many good insights and most of it makes sense. You can theoretically use his techniques, but sometimes they are just unrealistic in real-life situations. Also the book is so short and his chapters so small that it leaves you hungry for more depth, more explanation and more examples on how to use his tips. Sometimes the situations he describes are just too limited. I would not buy this again...it's just not detailed enough and provides too few examples on how to use this in real life--not every situation is about a cheating boyfriend or a dishonest employee. It seriously lacks depth but it's a decent read...but you will forget everything you read in 2 days.
Almost perfect
I have read several books on verbal self defense and this is by far the best. It contains techniques that are simple and easy to remember. Most of these methods are in the form of a statement that you can make. The only thing you have to remember is that although these tactics look and read very good on paper, real life situations are a different story, in that, when you employ these techniques, people might not react the way you anticipate them to in the short term. But, I am confident that if you employ these tricks on a regular basis, you will see some positive long term results.

With a title like this, it's no surprise that authors Adele Faber and Elaine Mazlish had a monster bestseller on their hands when the book first appeared in 1988. From the subsequent deluge of readers' stories, questions, and issues, they have created nearly 50 pages of new material for this, the 10th anniversary edition. The central message remains the same, and sounds almost too simple: avoid comparisons. But parents know that's easier said than done. The value of Faber and Mazlish's discussions is precisely that they talk you through umpteen different situations and outcomes to help you teach your brawling offspring a new set of responses. The highly informative text is punctuated with helpful summary/reminder boxes and cartoons illustrating key points. It's a must-read for parents with (or planning on) multiple children. But parents of young children who get along fine (so far) should read it too--as the authors make very clear, rivalry is inevitable. The only question is how to manage the rivalry with intelligence and compassion, and on that subject they offer a wealth of good advice. Read more

Grown-up kids prove this book's value
I read this book in 1992.At the time, I was the mother of a seven-year-old girl and a five-year-old girl.I began applying the lessons immediately.Now twenty-one and ninteen, my daughters describe us as one of the few families they know where the kids are truly friends.This is very different from my own childhood experience.My children had conflict growing up but I learned how to help them learn to resolve it in a positive way, thereby dramatically reducing the stress in our home.I also saw my kids use the techniques with their relationships with friends!I also have a twelve-year-old daughter and eleven-year-old son that get along really well, even learning to share the television and computer, so it's not just luck with the older ones.I now routinely give this book as a gift to parents of a second or third child.I HIGHLY recommend this to parents of children of any age.

Must Have Book
Excellent book.Well written. Has condensed summaries at end if one does not have time to read full text (and w/kids who has time).Has great cartoons to provide examples and use as refresher.Most important - it provides valuable advice that has proven to already be useful in real life.
Fantastic help!
After reading this book I realized I was doing it all wrong!Once I started implementing the authors techniques, it was amazing how quickly the fighting no longer escalated to "knock outs".My son and daughter were able to resolve some of their discrepancies on their own with very little involvement on my part!I truly recommend this book if you've got fighting kids, which is most, if not all of us parents!Then go on to read by the same authors, "How to talk so kids will listen and how to listen so kids will talk".Both of these books made a huge difference in my house! ... 6 STARS . . .how about 7?
This book is everything it is said to be. To know that there is an answer to ED other than the new ed pills should be talked about on the local news. To think that I overcame several years of ED with the help of simple supplements that can be found in an advanced multi-vitamin(and I don't mean a bunch of herbs). I've only been following the advice in this book for a couple of weeks and can tell you that this is the answer. Good set of basics for proper discipline
This book has been really helpful.My wife and I were in a pretty regular tug-of-war with our three-year-old.We were getting to our own limits.The examples and techniques of this book made it pretty clear why we were in the jam we were in.Our son ruled the house...until we both read this book.The games came to a halt the next day.Our son was a little shocked at first and went to great lengths to try and test the limits of our authority.It was difficult at first, to say the least.But, after about two weeks of persistence on our part, we turned him around and put some very clear boundaries in place - PROBLEMS SOLVED!

Up until reading this book I struggled with my son on a daily (if not hourly) basis.This book helped me understand my son's personality and gave me tools to react to him. It wasn't his personality that was the problem, but how I was reacting to it.We still have our moments, but they're not as often and I can handle them more effectively.We are no longer battling for hours and making life miserable for ourselves and everyone around us!I am a stay-at-home mom and because of our relationship, I considered going back to work.I once thought that he would be better off with someone else because at least he wouldn't be arguing all day.Now I am able to feel confident that it's best for him to be at home with me and learn from me and he can now do that in a positive manner.

Another way to look at the strong-willed child.
This book gives very good advice about managing behavior problems in difficult children. However, the concept of a "strong-willed child" is confusing because it implies a child with will power or self control. These difficult children actually have poor will power and self control. The techniques given in this book will help teach such children self control.

Reading with Heavy Heart
This is indeed a valuable book, which I have not yet finished.I know I'll repeatedly return to it in this very difficult time in my life.Divorced after eight years, with two beautiful children, I hope to derive some healing and strength from it.

This book changed my life.If you have a relationship with someone and they are like Jekyll and Hyde, you're confused, you are depressed--Buy this book.You will understand more after you read it.It has helped me to end 10 yrs. of pain, being told that it was all my fault when I knew I wasemotionally sucker-punched on an almost daily basis-just didn't know why.This is the first time that I really believe it has nothing to do with me.He is sick. I have tried everything I knew to do to make things better-it never worked. Now I know it can't.
An excellent, truly helpful book
I'm not a big fan of the self-help genre in general, but The Wizard of Oz and Other Narcissists really struck home. I recently broke up with a narcissist for whom I was the codependent, and at a number of points in the book I just had to put it down for a moment and have a "Wow" moment. Not only Payson's descriptions of narcissistic traits (which made me a little uncomfortable, since I recognized some of my own behavior in them) but also her descriptions of the dynamics between narcissists and codependents have the ring of authentic experience; that's really what it's like being with an NPD sufferer. She also made me wonder: was this last one just the tip of the iceberg? Were there more before? Will there be more afterward? Some of this stuff gets pretty scary, but I really couldn't put the book down.

Excellent, inspiring and reassuring advice
My wife and I have been married for 7 years. We have had a great time together but gradually we started being colder and less anticipating. It was obvious that the things were going in a bad direction. I was reluctant to rely on a book but a friend of mine recommended me this one so I bought it. I completely agree that this is an excellent book!

Well-written; easy to understand!
Having witnessed firsthand the ravages of someone with BPD, this is the first book I've read that captures your interest and attention almost immediately, and expresses the entire matter in terms that those of us who are not "health care professionals" can understand, RELATE TO and LEARN FROM.

When I first discovered this book, I found this book and the title alone summed up all of my relationships I had had up to that time (I was only 19). REALLY helped me by giving me validation
When my husband had an affair with my best friend, my therapist recommended this book to me. It was VERY, VERY helpful. It really explains all the reasons people have affairs - the circumstances that can create them, what's missing inside you and in your relationship, etc. I cannot recommend it enough. It helped validate a lot of things for me and helped me gravitate back to good self-esteem.Get a copy for your spouse, too.

This book restored my sanity and saved our relationship!
If you've been cheated on and are desperate for answers and understanding like I was, you need this book.After I found out about the affair, it was a nightmare.The anger was overwhelming to the point it consumed my every thought.We didn't know where to begin to start dealing with our own thoughts or with each other.This helped me understand more and guided us on how to talk in a constructive way so we could begin to heal.It's been five months and we're probably getting along better than ever.We chose to stay together and I'm not sure we would have succeeded without the help of this book and it's great advice.
Excellent, insightful work
as a psychologist, i have found this book to be a wonderful resource. i have used it with many patients who have been on the giving or receiving end of an affair and have also used it with patients who have a family history characterized by an affair. the book is great for getting both members of the couple to look at the ways in which they could do things differently in the relationship. it's unfortunate but true that an affair can often bring couples closer together. i certainly do not think that this is the way to get your partner's attention (!), but i do believe that relationships can survive an infidelity. this book provides hope and help for strengthening a marriage after an affair.

Still don't completely understand my husband.
Although the book was helpful...it's been a few years now since I've read it, I still don't understand why my husband has to repeat himself all the time.Especially if someone wants to converse with him.If he feels he hasn't finished his sentance and someone tries to participate he will completely and a little louder start all over again.

Saved My Life
This book really trully opened my eyes. Most books are so full of pop pychology we do not understand how it practically applies to us. Patricia Evans creates a roadmap and helps you see what you may feel but not recognize. My jaw dropped eith each page and I read it twice. Once I went back and the abuse continued so I read it again and realized I had to leave. This is the number one book I would reccomend to any woman who feels her relationship is not right....

This book is an easy read and a helpful guide for people in relationships who are questioning where their relationship stands and if it's something good enough to work through or it's time to move on.
Getting Off the Fence
I imagine most readers of Mira Kirshenbaum's "Too Good to Leave, Too Bad to Stay" are leaning towards the going. Most of us tend not to mess with the good, or spend time analyzing why we feel bliss; rather we seek out deeper understanding only when something hurts. Human nature, I suppose. Take notice only when life becomes a pain. But as I read Kirshenbaum's easy to absorb guide on fencesitting relationships, I realized this is a good read even for the best of relationships. Even for those currently between relationships. Why not gain understanding as a preventative measure and avoid the iffy relationship entirely?
Read This Before You Get Married!
I read this book when I was engaged to be married, and it's the best thing I could have done. I was stuck in what the author calls "relationship ambivalence", where I was caught up in deciding whether my fiancé was the "perfect" man for me, and whether I really wanted to commit my entire life to him. My doubts were starting to take a toll on our relationship, and as the wedding date got closer, it only got worse.That's when I thought of seeking help and found this book.By the end of the book, I realized that my relationship was truly too good to leave. It helped me recognize the many great things that my fiancé and I have going for us. The book was a huge relief for me. I was able to let go of my doubts once and for all, and I have never been happier. My fiancé and I will be married soon and I cannot wait to walk down the aisle and say I Do!

Everyone could use an "atta boy"
This was the third Blanchard book that I have read and so far it is my favorite.The fact that I was staying in Orlando right next to Sea World when I started reading it was a total coincidence, but it made some of the elements of the story really come alive for me. The ideas expressed here can apply to anyone or everyone, not just a manager of some business firm.Although, I have to admit that like many of Blanchard's books it was a little predictable and felt a little pollyannaish.

If Your Spouse Is Determined to Leave You, This is the Book To Get
I have not read this book. But I read the reviews. And 11 months ago, when my friend was leaving her husband, I got the book to him. A couple of weeks later, he called me and told me that this book changed his life. He said that based on this book, he changed his behavior, and then his wife changed her mind and agreed to go to marriage counseling. Title might turn away people that this book is good for
While the advice in the book appears to have been too late for me, the advice and strategies talked about in this book make a lot of sense and help to debunk a lot of traditional Freudian psychoanalytic therapy methods.
Very helpful for any relationship having problems
I got this book not because I was headed for divorce, but having a difficult time in my marriage as happens to everyone that has been married for awhile. As a married person, I know my thoughts of "should I leave this?" are not all that uncommon in today's society. I was at a place where I was really asking myself that question. This book was really a lifesaver for me and my marriage when I got it. Michelle Weiner states "No marriage is an island".Some marital difficulties can be precipitate by happenings outside the marriage. It is easiest to blame the one's we are close to! This book helped me see how I myself often pointed accusational fingers at my husband, when I was truelly not always the one willing to work on things. I often blamed him when other areas of my life were not going well. My relationship has actually improved greatly for the better since I read this book which was six months ago. I was able to view Michele's philosophy that all marriages are salvagable, and most are worth saving. I saw mine that way. I remind myself of all the reasons why I married my husband, and keep myself in check now. Excellent
Love and Respect is a wonderful book! It really helped me understand many things. It deals with situations in which a man or woman is responsible for discord in the relationship. This is one topic I have learned about in the past, and thought I had really implemented in my life, but I was amazed at how much I still did not understand about the way men think and respond. Read this book even if you're not having marital problems.

Christ loved the church first
If the church is our example of marriage Christ LOVED us first. He did not need to be respected first. I agree with the main idea of the book, however the author puts more pressure on women than on men. Men, lead the way in love as Christ did, even when he received no respect but crucifixion.

This book was a blessing
