A Textbook on Human Communication
I am a huge fan of Daniel Goleman.He's the bestselling author who coined the term "Emotional Intelligence" with his 1995 book of the same name.Now he's got a new book, "Social Intelligence: The New Science of Human Relationships."Social intelligence is the ability to read other people's cues and then act on them.Life is all about relationships, and there is a science to how we relate to each other.It's fascinating to see how Goleman breaks down each aspect of communication.We can learn how to more effectively express ourselves so that we feel understood.And we can learn how to better "read" other people so that we can better understand.This helps to improve our interactions and ultimately strengthen our relationships.He talks about "synchrony" or interacting smoothly at the nonverbal level, which is an important, yet often overlooked, part of relating.Goleman also scientifically explains "the capacity for joy" and how that affects our social intelligence.He shows how our resilience plays an important role in our happiness, which comes into play as we express ourselves to others.

Great pairing Amazon!
When I read "Crucial Conversations" I found myself tearing through it in long spurts, driven by an intense interest in the authors' discussion of how we handle those tough circumstances life throws our way. It makes the case that we all need to understand our style for handling the inevitable duress of a difficult conversation, and they complement theories with excellent, actionable strategies that work well in the real world.
Excellent roadmap
This book is not your everyday self help book.It provides a fail-safe roadmap for tough communications.

Outstanding!
Dale Carnegie is one of the authors I have admired for so long. There are numerous reasons why this book is a classic one. He deeply believes that in every person there is good and you can approach it. Of course, there are many negative people who don't like this book because they see everything in black and white. Carnegie on the other side advocates a really delicate, positive and humane approach to everyone around you. It comes very close to "treat the others as you want them to treat you". I am sure that if everyone read and apply the principles in this wonderful book, the world will be a better place. I am sure that you will be pleased as well with his talent to really understand what drives people. Some of the key and basic motivators he discussed are sex and being important. His viewpoint is very close to the one of the bestselling author of scientfically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex. After all genius things are usually simple. Carnegie explores the human nature and common hot buttons together with the reader and gives you tools to manage and push them at your will with the help of numerous examples. I liked that the book is practical, easy and fun to read, and most of all that it delivers great value. I can not say the same for many other books. Definitely get a copy especially if you are a "good" person and prefer to treat people with respect and dignity.

Sometimes you get to revisit
Years ago I worked with a lot of this material, and a lot of other material, most of it was good.My father died this last winter and stuff started shifting around a bit and at any rate it became apparent that some of what was getting in my way was codependence.

HOW MUCH IS FACT, HOW MUCH IS FICTION? EITHER WAY, A TERRIFIC READ...
... and definitely informative... but just keep in mind that this is written by a member of the media, a Rolling Stone columnist, no less (ie: a professional at distorting the truth if it enhances the story's angle). An entertaining read and highly recommended.

This book is not quite what i thought it would be
A beautiful woman's review
As a young, beautiful and smart lady, I had to get my hands on this book at least because of all the buzz around it. Well, I have to say that I am impressed! You see guys, most women like me won't mind at all to meet a guy who knows what to say and how to say it in order to grab our attention and keep it even till bed. Neil Strauss has realized very well that manipulation and sly tactics don't go easily under our inner radars and that's why he stresses the importance of respecting each woman you attract and sleep with. Of course, you may be the #1 pick up artist but if you can last 7-10 minutes in bed you ARE history and you can't blame me or any other self-respecting woman who has high expectations in bed. That's why I strongly advise all serious men to educate themselves with must have bestsellers such as "scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". Books like The Game help you to score better with more women and thus to have greater choice. Well, we also want and have many to choose from. So consistently hone your skills in and outside of bed, build your confidence and practice the techniques revealed in such bestsellers. Then you will easily and logically score very well with hot women and neither they nor you will have the feeling that there is some manipulation going on. I wish someone would have recommended this book at the start of my divorce and custody dispute. This book is by far the best resource book for custody disputes and surviving a divorce. At first glance one would think that it is a bit expensive. However, once you receive it you will be thankful that you did. You could combine numerous other books in this genre and they would not compare to this single book. This book goes in depth without losing the reader. You will find yourself referencing it throughout your divorce and/or custody dispute. Maybe the best I've read in this genre!
Although I knew who Dr. Laura Schlessinger was, to my knowledge I've never listened to her on the radio or seen her on television, so I really didn't know what to expect from her book, other than that I had heard is was very good. As a minister, I counsel a lot of young couples and thought I might glean some useful information here. I can't begin to express how refreshing her book has been. Dr. Laura's no-holds barred delivery is a welcome change from the watered down marriage advice books that tend to surface so often.
A misunderstood Subject
This can be a misunderstood book as indicated by some of the negative reviews. People tend to get defensive when you stir up the status quo. This is not meant to be a book on 'How to Fix All Marriages' or meant to imply that all failed marriages are the woman's fault. Really, the author is obviously not that simple minded. It is a book that addresses SPECIFIC issues of "Double Standards", self-centeredness and about men who aren't appreciated by their wives and feel dehumanized and taken for granted. There are many men who feel this way, and their feelings are not considered to be valid or important, which is why this book was written. This is NOT a book to advise women to be a submissive 'servant' to a dominating abusive husband. It is about respect and remembering that your partner is more than just a 'husband' or 'wife'. Your partner is (or should be) the most important person in your life and in your heart, and does not deserve to be put on the bottom of the list.
Insightful, straightforward and very valuable!
The major point is to love, respect and take care of your husband! Of course, this does NOT mean that YOU have to play the role of a wife-doormat! Dr. Laura didn't leave her career and job in order to be a housewife. That's why the book is more about PRIORITIES! I think that many people have misunderstood her advice about the common issue- the husband wants to be intimate but she doesn't want because she is tired, not in a mood, etc.

Most frustrating book ever!
I teach at addiction studies at a local university, and found this book to be redundant and frustrating. It repeats itself, as would a student who has a single thought and lots of space to fill. I find this to be the most poorly organized book I have ever taught from, and will not use it again.

Review
An excellent resource guide into motivational interviewing. A must for any therapist of addiction. It should be the number 1 tool for any educators in handling difficult situations with students.

Kudos for Miller and Rollnick

The Most Important Book I've Ever Owned!
This book should be required reading by everyone!I have given away copies of this book, and have one of my own.I have learned more about life from this book - how to deal with it, handle it, and survive it - then any other book I've ever read.
Spot-On
I used one of the readings in this book and one of the readings in its sequel, "More Language of Letting Go," as the topics in a recent 12-step meeting I was called on to lead.I was a little bit fearful about using these books, as this was not a meeting of the 12-step program that might be most naturally associated with Ms. Beattie and her writings (although a close cousin).The second person to speak up after I opened the meeting for sharing confirmed my belief that these books were "spot-on," and so I have chosen that as the title of my review.(You know who you are, should you ever read these words, and I thank you once again.)
Great message for daily living

Great Book
I recommend this book to everyone whether dating or married. This book looks at love from a different yet inspiring perspective. I have told everyone I know about this book and can't wait for my Fiance to read it. It was recommended to me by several friends, and I'm very grateful that they told me about it.

First of all, I would to deeply thank Dr. Chapman for this outstanding book! It is true that the "five love languages" is quite simple and easy to understand concept. At the same time, it is so important and profound that it can make or break a relationship. You may get the impression that the book is applicable mostly to a committed relationship but in fact you can take advantage of it at home, at your work place, everywhere. It reveals you how to get someone's way of expressing true feelings and cordial emotions. I was so excited when I found out that my long-term boyfriend's love language is physical touch. Now I don't miss a chance to give him a hug, hold his hand, etc. and he is delighted. Steve....the ultimate humorist!
Being an avid fan of Fox & Friends already, having watched it for years & years, when I knew Steve was writing a book - first thing I thought, this will be a smash hit! He's hilarious on the show and I knew that it would leak over to his book. I had to get a copy & was the first one in my town that bought one!Unfortunately, not with an autograph :(((
Funniest book I've read in a long time...
I really enjoyed this book. Doocy's humor is so random and dead-on when it comes to marriage, diapers, and snakes. It's a perfect wedding gift, and cheaper than china.
