Promises in a new life
I was re-inspired in my recovery by this book. It has enhanced my recovery. I had the honor of knowing the author Linda. She was 2nd sponsor, and I know that she knows of what she writes about. This book is based on "real" information, not a bunch of medical lingo and theories, It tells how to find happy joyous and free, and what to do to get that. The 12 steps of AA, is what worked for her. She had trying times, trying to mend relationships with her family, and a day at a time she was doing that. The promises do come to those who work for them. I regret to say that Linda did not beat her battle with Cancer as she was beating her alcoholism. She passed away SOBER on 8-15-2001. A very PRACTICAL Guide
This book focuses on most all issues confronting widows.It is a valuable guide and a "go to" book for answers on the journey following a husband's death.

A book to change a life
I can honestly state that this book is one of the most practical books I have ever read. It allows one to approach spirituality from ANY perspective and, at the same time, inspires confidence in the method. Many of these type books offer only suggestions, without the "proof" that is necessary for many individuals before they become capable of committing their entire lives to the unknown. I also feel that this book was a pleasant application of many of the principals espoused by Emmet Fox and other practitioners of New Thought and the Unity (not Unitarian) Church. This book can save a life without a doubt !

Great for Non-Believers--Informative for Believers As Well
I strongly recommend this book to interested members of all 12-step groups, particularly non-believers having trouble with their Higher Power. I have 13 years in AA & NA and I would rate it a must-have for sponsors. The book is easy to read, has many anecdotes and has been used successfully at AA book studies in Southern California. The material is entirely consistent with the AA Big Book and the 12 & 12 (quotes them a lot) and draws on a deep and broad knowledge of 12-step groups, religions and history. The author is a professor at Indiana University, a Methodist minister and a doctor of theology from Oxford University but the book is written for regular 12-step members. Really to the point!
I'm really glad I stumbled across this book!It states some profound truths so simply that you might actually think they are not important--but they are SO important--for example, it reminds us that "your home is under your hat."In this world of acquisitiveness, it's a powerful reminder that nothing outside of ourselves is who we are--nothing we can buy or get makes us different inside.That's what we have to work on.I have used a biofeedback machine--and I can attest to the accuracy of this book from my own personal experience.By the way, the book is small, so I am able to carry it with me and when I have a spare moment (like when I am riding the subway), I can refer to it and keep myself focused.I highly recommend it!

Insights into the difficult path to recovery
Meeting Wisdom by Brian L. is an impressive compendium of penetrating, inspiring wisdom arising from the experience of attending and participating in 12-step meetings, whether for Alcoholics Anonymous or any number of other addiction recovery 12-step programs. Highly recommended reading, Meeting Wisdom provides a wealth of informed and informative insights into the difficult path to recovery, and what it means to commit to a clean and sober life will hold great value to readers of all backgrounds, and whether they are currently involved in a particular 12-step program or not.

Fun & Useful Recovery Book
Meeting Wisdom is full of great 12 Step and AA sayings - some of which I had heard at 12 step meetings before but many of which were new to me. The sayings are organized so that you can use the book in several different ways. In addition to reading it straight through I have found myself opening it up anytime I have a problem and just randomly picking a page to see what saying I get. I also like the index because it is just like "As Bill Sees It" so that you can choose a topic (faith, fear, sponsorship, etc.) and then find all the sayings related to that topic. The book also has a journal section so that you can take it to meetings and jot down your own favorite sayings (though I haven't used it yet) or take notes as you are reading it.Read more

Awesome!
It's rare for me to find a book I can't put down. I'm very good at skimming to get the gist of a book but I was only a few pages into Great Wings when I realized I didn't want to miss one word. By the time I was less than half way through I ordered 5 more copies for gifts. Great wings is deeply touching and insightful...a book you will want to share with someone you love. Don't miss this one. It will lift your spirits and touch your heart.

A RECOVERY METAPHOR!
I've been around program long enough to recognize what this really is. If you are in a 12 step group you should give this to your sponsor. It will touch his heart.

You have no Idea till you read it!
As the daughter of this writer I am not here just to tell you that you need to buy my daddy's book. I am here to tell you that I don't really like to read religous books. I love to read novels and I am going to write one. This book has so much real detail and its so true and down to earth. I got this book and I flew through it twice. It is such an easy read.
