Helping Those Trapped in Pornography!!
Henry Rogers doesn't pull any punches, here, in his expose of this tawdry topic, but all too common problem we have in our society.The chapters of his book include many different fronts, and cover the personal and private lives of those who have been harmed by pornography.He has included his own story, but there are some really good chapters, such as Chapter 4- She Has a Name, whereupon he cites Elis, Stefani, Amy, Kristen, and Julie, and he states that "their reason for existence is to satisfy lust, and that their names are insignificant."A truly troubling thought.
A mans book written for men
Rogers trendson ground that angels, and the rest of us, fear to go- ministering to those trapped in the deception of pornography.It was not an easy book to read, I felt as if I need to wash my hands after doing so; yet, I think it is a necessary read.Rogers gets past the fantasy, deception and lies of the sex trade and casts the light of truth on its effects on the men who are trapped by it, their wives and families who suffer because of it, and the woman who serve in it. I thought our marraige had survived an adulterous affair... I didn't recognize any of the signs or symtoms of an another affair but something just wasn't right. I had no idea how broad and how deep sexual addiction goes. Now with instant access to porn and personal ads, the problem is about rampant.As a woman closely involved with sexual addictions and its ramifications, I must say I read most of this book with my jaw dropped. I agree with some parts of the other reviews that perhaps it would be difficult for a man deeply embroiled in the addiction not to find something in it to turn him on. I am thankful that God prompted the author to write so frankly about such an ignored issue within the church. Yes, I was Flabbergasted at what is out there but I feel more informed. The author presents many pornography myths - especially that it is victimless. I paused for quite some time when he stated that lust is sin and sin is why Christ had to die. Then the personal history's of topless dancers and porn 'stars'...Wow do we need to watch the messages we send to our daughters about their worth and the beauty of biblical sex in a committed loving relationship. He addresses internet issues and helps the reader identify some red flags. We need to be informed enough to become more proactive. Wake up fellow Christians! ... Read more

This is a terrible book
I usually do not write book reviews, but I thought it was important to add a review of this book so that other people don't waste their money.This is the worst book I have ever read on addiction.Basically, the author describes her pain regarding her sexual addiction and describes scenerios she encountered in detail.The book reads more like [...] than a self-help manual.If you are looking for a self-help text or a text to assist patients with this problem, this is definitely not the right text!!!!!

Courageous and Compassionate

a courageous woman with an important message
I stumbled upon this book by accident and am very glad I did. Even though I don't have this addiction that Sue Silverman describes, I still find it a fascinating account. For one thing, addiction, in general, is such a part of our culture, that Silverman is, in a way, describing more than "one woman's journey."She describes the way so many of us live addicted lives, regardless of the addiction. The book is also beautifully written. She's a real writer. She is also a role model, showing the way for how the rest of us might live more spiritually and more humanly. Know blessing
Here is a secret I would like to share.
Hope from the Bondage to Sexual Sin!
Eros Redeemed by John White is the best book I have read that addresses the stranglehold of sexual sin with honesty and genuine care for anyone who is a counselee or counselor. With personal experiences from his own life and from the people he has to come to know and counseled, he provides a way for people who are suffering and cannot find a way out. It is gripping with love and the power of the Gospel to redeem anyone in any situation. Rather than all the emphasis being placed on professionals to help, it makes you realize you could be the one the Holy Spirit wants to use to help someone else trapped in sexual sin. What if you are trapped? There is an answer in there for you too! Revealing the dangers of sexual sin and the redemption that can be offered as people receive help and wait on the Lord for their healing, it touches the heart.

Not what I expected
In the past few weeks I have read a number of Christian books which attempt to take on the topic of sexual addiction.All have had their good points--some will enlighten readers to the many consequences of sexual sin, while others are better at pointing them in the direction of repentance and healing.This book, however, seemed to tackle too many aspects of sexual addiction, and I feel its effectiveness was spread thin as a result.Read more

Helpful, but there are disappointing aspects
The first half of this book is a good book for a wife who just discovers her husband's sexual addiction.It stresses the importance of knowing you are not alone and how helpful being in a support group for wives of sex addicts can be.I found the information about talking to children, age appropriately, about the addiction to be very wise since children often sense SOMETHING is wrong and are apt to be very insecure about not knowing what is going on. I found so much of what the author wrote about her feelings of betrayal completely resonating with my range of emotions in a very similar situation.There are many books that deal with the addict and his (or her) pain, but very few that focus on healing for the betrayed spouse and the issue of the codependency in the relationship as this one does.This book is helpful if you do want to work on your marriage after the disclosure of a sexual addiction rather than calling it quits immediately.However, I was very dismayed to read how often the author's husband relapsed into sexually acting out and lying for years at a time.I think it is very important to understand your codependency and move away from enabling your husband. At some point you have to respect yourself enough to remove yourself from the situation if relapse continues.I applaud the author's efforts to work on her marriage, but I encourage readers to read a variety of books on the topic so they realize leaving is a very real option if the husband is not recovering.A book I recommend is Love, Infidelity, and Sexual Addiction by Christine Adams.
A badly needed book
Not only is My Husband Has a Secret badly needed, but it's written with warmth. Molly Ann Miler handles this topic so well and the writing flows.

it is a good start to solve one of the biggest problems
Thank you Dr. Goodman for trying to give an initial solution to the huge problem of sexual addiction, it is a hard and difficult subject to treat & explain; however, I think that some extra sections on spirituality,moral convictions and the relevance of believing in God and leading &practicing a normal Christian life (both internally & externally) tohave also a good marital life and to be able to control the sexualaddiction so much advertise on TV, MOVIES, BOOKS and almost everywhere, Ithink it also helps to put more emphasis on the good balanced moral &spiritual life of the persons to be able to fight against addictions ingeneral, as Dr. Chopra mentions in his book on adddiction that the THOUGHcauses the DESIRE and then the desire causes the action of the addictivebehavior. Many people would appreciate if Dr. Goodman could include theseextra topics in your next bood on sexual addiction, because there is stilla lot of terrain to cover. Thank you very much Dr. Goodman for a good starton a topic that needed to be addressed urgently worldwide.

A Good Book... Not A Great Book
Where do you turn when addiction causes your life to spiral out of control; when misconnections impair healthy connections; when self-gratification leads to dehumanizing other people?Don't look for psychological theories, cultural excuses, or self-focused victimhood.Ron J's uncompromising answer only makes sense for those who acknowledge Christ: "If you are a believer, have you invited Christ into your temptation and why not?"
The Real Deal
If anyone is seriously desiring sobriety in any 12 Step program and isn't making significant progress, then this heartfelt book is a must read. The challenging aspects of life are brought into focus by asking the tough questions. IS GOD really in your life or are you purely religious?? Religon doesn't work for the recovery that I long for and facing the question about GOD in my daily life is the only answer. That means I can't call upon him just in my morning and evening prayer time, but have God as a prsence in every moment.

Some Tidbits About "Impossible Joy"
For those who don't know, Ron J is a pseudonym for the actual author, Roy K. He is the founder of Sexaholics Anonymous (SA), a 12-step program of recovery for people addicted to lust. Roy wrote this book in 1999 when he had 23 years of SA sobriety. The book is heavily oriented for Christians/Catholics and is not really appropriate for the generic, 12-step, "God as we understand Him" crowd. ... Read more

Medical Trials with Addiction
Guide and dictionary both describe this educational and revealing biographical and resource book.Dr. Lee began as a well-schooled popular cardiologist, with typical family and community ties.His descent to paralyzing impairment with sexual addiction is the basis for this work.Physicians damaged finally bring themselves or are brought to help.This may take the form of medical society or licensure sponsored impaired physicians programs, or other professional programs.This book starts with a brief chronology of what happened in Dr. Lee's life.The rest of the book segments into alphabetical chapters to facilitate looking up the many terms used in addiction problems.Each discussion then details the meaning and use of the term with editorial comments appended.A good bibliography and appendix are affixed to the end and complement the rest of the text.Certainly reading this book helps us understand another psychological land mine.We can perhaps help others and ourselves with these proper tools.

Rebuilding trust: For couples commited to recovery
This book is an excellent way to help you and your partner understand how broken trust destroys relationships and how if there is a way, how the trust may be mended. Especially when you feel betryed wether it be infidelity, or addiction to porn. My future husband and I have been looking for a book to help us deal with the aftermath of feelings from our event. The book explains that there are addicts and co-dependents. The book gives validation to both parties feelings and how to get through this rough time together. A good book on fighting out of the clutches of sexual sins
This book was one of the first books I read on freedom from sexual sins through Christ. It is very helpful especially for young men who struggle with sexual temptations and those who aspire to be free. Dr. Armstrong should follow this with a more comprehensive book.

Bull!
I know this man.Both he and his book are hogwash!If you like grown men who exhibit themselves to pre-teen girls on school buses (check out Austin Police Department records - his name was Jay Pilevsky then), then you're gonna' love Jay Parker!And if he's found "Grace," she's probably 13.

Former 'patient' of Jay's and I KNEW I wasn't crazy
Sheesh, where would I ever begin.I was delighted to read the book and most especially the reviews to realize and come to terms with the fact that it wasn't just me who thought Jay was a quack.I knew something wasn't quite right, starting with his credentials and growing exponentially from there.I never felt comfortable with his pseudo-psych rap.It was especially frightening to read from his 'publisher' about how Jay was in such denial until so very recently (and during the time I was seeing him).Funny how Jay never mentioned that part of his story to any of us nor the fact that he was writing a book.
