5-0 out of 5 stars grabtis if nev'r realize u able to love ursel unconditionaly
Just came across Ryan's book accidentally.Gee.. another self help book again. But, no harm to read it. Boys, I just can't stop after a couple of pages. Bryan used his own grief experiences as a method of empowerment andhealing to give himself ( definitely including myself ) a powerful thoughtto reconstruct the some what messed up life. The whole book is precise andstraight to the point. The book goes so depth. The content of the book goesmore than the title as the book suggested. Tons of life transformationskills: such as self love, detachment and etc..The space here is far toosmall too express the beauty and the healing power of the book.Yes,probably you will feel bored by looking at the topic such as pronciples ofhealing, choice, vacum, harmony, expectation, inner Guru. ( I feel same toofrom the beginning). but, once you read...the sparkle of light will justpop out, regardless how painful, unhappy...you once were. Pals, I readlotta selp-helps' book. I had never given any review before toward a bookcuz seldom I find a book that would drive me to do that.. tis one isdifferent.. so much different. This will be considered TOP 4 in mycollection. Grab one.. then you will believe how realible my words are. Iam not exaggerrated. What can i get by doing this, right ? P/s: I am a longterm defeated Christian, now I know I am not because I am learning newhealing skills to empower my inner self. Thank You! Dr. Robinson Godbless ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Emotional Truth, Light
What is the Truth?Who are we?Huck Finn's father was a raging, violent alcoholic, who tried to kill Huck one night with a meat cleaver and shot gun.So he hid, ran away, suffering from post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) like a Vietnam combat veteran. As most of us do.Stephanie Brown's book SAFE PASSAGE is truly light in the darkness of family alcoholism.I admire and respect her courage for writing a well organized, accurate, clinically brilliant, heartfelt book about the trauma and terror I and 25-30 million other American children experienced in an alcoholic family. It's all in there. And it's all true.An ACA (adult child of alcoholics) I grew up terrified, thinking I was alone, unworthy, that no one understood. And they didn't.Not until blessed therapists like Stephanie Brown (who taught T. Cermak, M.D.), Herbert L. Gravitz and Julie Bowden (RECOVERY: A Guide For ACAs), and Timmen Cermak (A TIME TO HEAL: Huck Finn as ACA with PTSD) came along in the 1980s.They helped me profoundly to understand myself better and what happend to me.It all started with the Gravitz/Bowden book. And it's all in Stephanie Brown's book.My father and two brothers died from alcoholism at 50, 45, and 58 respectively.A playwright and screenwriter, my new screenplay is about family alcoholism, identity, roles we play, and its affects for generations. As Stephanie Brown says in her wonderful book, "Once home, that is, once stabilizedon the firm ground of a much healthier self, the ACA can tolerate seeing and feeling the whole of the past."Fear of abandonment and isolation challenge us as we become our true selves and rewrite our histories, Brown says. She's right.Divided into sections of Family Development, Individual Development, Consequences, Recovery, and Summing Up and Moving On, this book gives insight and understanding to the affects of family alcoholism on children and how to recover from it for the first time in recorded history.I highly recommend it.It's revolutionary. And healing.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Book !Detailed yet very personal.
I thought GUT FEELINGS by Carnie Wilson was an excellent book.Carnie talks about her childhood up to her adult life and the struggles she has had with morbid obesity.I liked getting to know her in the first half of the book, and the second half of the book went into her gastric bypass surgery and recovery.Carnie didn't hold back any of the "rough times" during her surgery and recovery and didn't "sugar-coat" the hard work people go through deciding to have gastric bypass surgery and the lifestyle changes that must occur afterwards.I have read alot of books on weight loss surgery, but Carnie's was the only book I found that put a personal story to the medical facts and procedures and that really made a difference.I would recommend this book to anyone who is considering bariatric surgery or who has had surgery.I hope Carnie Wilson writes GUT FEELINGS II soon!

3-0 out of 5 stars Save your money.
I found the book slow, dull, and repetitive, with no quality information. It is a good read as far as seeing someone else's struggle with morbid obesity, but not for trying to learn anything about the surgery itself. It tells of her struggles, reasoning for being MO, how she compares herself to others, all things that someone with MO is aware of. It was frustrating to read the same feelings and stories over and over; and, what I was most annoyed with was the tasteless and vulgar language throughout the book. Regrettably I bought her other book, "I'm still hungry." I am hoping that offers a look into what it is like years after the surgery, with good quality information, and devoid of the crude language.

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite book so far!
I purchased this book because I am anticipating WLS. As I started reading the book I do admit that it does get a little bit long in the beggining, but I think Carnie wants us to get a feel of how her life was revolved around food. As I get further and further in the book she reminds me of myself a emotional eater! Carnie is funny and some parts will have you laughing other parts will make you say "that's how I am feeling right now!"

5-0 out of 5 stars The Me Nobody Knows: A Guide for Teen Survivors
This book is an excellent resource for teen survivors of sexual abuse, their parents, teachers, and counselors. I teach 7th through 12th grade adolescents within a state hospital setting. Many of the teens I teach aresurvivors of sexual abuse, and I have used this book as a resource for themfor the past several years. The book is written in very straightforwardlanguage and in a readable format. It includes realistic discussions aboutfeelings and easily usable suggestions for dealing with those feelings andother aftereffects of sexual abuse. I feel the authors treat the book'sreaders with respect and intelligence, never preaching nor talking down tothem. Another outstanding book on this topic I also provide in my libraryfor my students is:How Long Does it Hurt? A guide to recovering fromincest and sexual abuse for teenagers, their friends, and their families,by Cynthia L. Mather.

5-0 out of 5 stars TBI family survivor
This book had lots of hope for TBI victims as well as ideas to help them at home. I suggested some of these ideas to my brothers OT and she thought they were great!

1-0 out of 5 stars In Search of Wings as a Reference Work
Becaue I purchased this book for reasons of research I was disappointed that there was not more "meat" to it.There were few "insights" and very little technical information. The most irritating part of the work was the writing style and content.Style was an overdone and overused theme of "wings" and content was practically nonexistent. My money would have been better spent on textbooks of brain.

5-0 out of 5 stars A masterpiece, a must read...
I was reluctant to read this book, having been disapointed many times with head-injury survival stories.I picked it up, and I simply couldn't put it down!It was incredible, the way you cry, and laugh, and smile, and evenbecome angry at her actions!I must say this is easily the best book onhead-injury I have read.I cannot see how your life could be fulfilledwithout reading this masterpiece. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Caring Person Who Gently Encourages an Open Mind
Don't wait until you or someone you know has cancer to read this book. It can help anyone to be encouraged to live and eat in a way that cooperates with the way our bodies were designed and perhaps help us to avoid having to face a life threatening disease. Eydie Mae is just an average person faced with not your average decisions. It was HER life and HER health and HER decision. Ann Wigmore's approach worked for her and she can't keep it to herself. I appreciate that. I am quite capable of gathering information from many sources and then deciding for myself which approach I will use just as Eydie Mae did. Dr. Jay's review insult's us "uneducated pseudo-intellectuals" or in other words, us average people, by implying that we can't possibly know anything about our bodies or disease or think for ourselves and can't learn it without years of study at a university. Eydie Mae doesn't tell you her way is the only way. She is living proof that her way worked for at least one person and perhaps can help someone else. She just asks you to have an open mind. She lets you know it is okay to color outside the lines. Since Dr. Jay says that natural remedies are "a death sentence" for many cancer patients, let me ask him this, "Can you, Dr. Jay, guarantee that if I "see my doctor and get the PROPER care" I will survive and live to write a book as Eydie Mae did?"

1-0 out of 5 stars Bogus and Deadly
You cannot hope to cure cancer using natural remedies. This is a death sentence for most cancer patients. While nutrition plays a key role, those who prey on the hopeful souls of patients should suffer a perilous fate.See your doctor and get the proper care.Your life is too valuable to risk on luck and the stupid greedy actions of uneducated pseudo-intellectuals.

5-0 out of 5 stars God Has Sent Us An Angel
As a breast cancer survivor without chemotherapy or radiation I found this book to be the most encouraging and inspiring of all. If you are looking for a simple, painfree, natural, safe, alternative method to the barbaric therapies that conventional medicine offers then please read Eydie Mae's book. She talks about her entire experience from being diagnosed by a "specialist" who screamed at her husband insisting that she would die if she did not agree to a radical mastectomy,to finally finding her way through the Ann Wigmore living foods diet.It really is a delightful, easy to read book. It's like talking to an old friend. You don't have to lose your breasts (or your mind).God has provided us with everything that we need on this planet to heal ourselves naturally.Surely if he can create oceans and mountains, suns, and galaxies then he can heal our bodies through natural methods. Stay strong and know that you are never ever alone.I also recommend reading Three Magic Words by U.S. Anderson - excellent! Also check out natural healing methods by Dr.George Malkomus. He healed himself of colon cancer naturally.I think the title of his book is Back to The Garden. He is also the founder of Hallelujah Acres There is also Dr. Lorraine Day who healed herself of advanced invasive breast cancer naturally. ... I have been through several twelve step programs, and would work through the steps to a certain point...then stop. With this book of devotions for women in recovery, my progress has been significant. As my internal relationship grew more intimate with God, my external relationships grewdeeper with my husband, children and friends. Each day was a blessing toread the scripture references and short story; then to pray and acknowledgemy feelings as they surfaced.Sometimes the devotional time brought tears, sometimes laughter, sometimes, a desire to forgive or be forgiven, andalways a desire to become the woman God wanted me to be that day. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT, CONCISE,ELEGANT Personal witness on the 12 steps
According to the publisher Fr. Fred is 50 years a jesiut priest,an a member of alcoholics anonymous for almost 40 years. This very well written{especially when you consider they are simply transcriptes of talks],clear rendering of the 12 steps. A great deal of the literature on the 12 steps takes a teacher-student dialogue approach, whereas fr. fred seems to be far more humble, and so much more effective. He breaks down each step chapter by chapetr[his 3rd step,6th and 7th are worth thr price of the book alone].His language is VERY SIMPLE AND CLEAR.I have avidly read almost everything that i can get on the 12 steps, and i agree with the previous reviewer, this is essentila, and BY FAR AND AWAY THE BEST BOOK ON THE 12 STEPs i have read.No preaching, no religion,no oldtimer nostagia[which, unfortunately clutters up some other books.}10 stars,20 stars. This is life affirming stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book on the 12 steps i have encountered
This is a simple, brilliant explanation of the 12 steps of alcoholics anonymous.Father Fred explains the steps in clean plain prose[though the ist edition is littered with typos].His explanation of the 2nd step isparticularly excellent, though after a rather slow ist step introduction, each of the steps are magnificent. Pardon the hyperbole, but this is one ofthe few necessary books I own. I have given out at LEAST 50 copies of thisbook, and I have found 1,1 person who did not find it veryuseful.Anyone, especially those in A. a. ,will find it 's clarity andbrevity welcome. Do not be put off by the title,it is not a sectarianreligious book.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is for anyone who is seeking wholeness.
Sometimes book titles are deceiving. For example: I am not an alcoholic, so I would not usually pick up a book that might seem to deal with that illness. The old axiom "don't judge a book by its cover" fitsreally well here. No one person in this world is free from problems. Thesemay come in various packages such as addicitons, mental illness, depression, etc. However, if we strip away the outside package, the humancondition is the same across the board. Pain is pain. Suffering issuffering. These need to be dealt with, and Fr. Fred's sharings on each ofthe 12 steps of AA is a most valuable tool to help anyone, not just thosewith addictions. It has helped me to look at the situations in my lifesquarely in the face and realize that I don't have to live with them anymore. Read it. Ponder it. Read it again and again. It will become a mostvaluable part of your life. It will empower you to change. It will help youfind wholeness. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Follow, A Little Simplistic
I followed Jane Scrivner's detox program for one month last fall and was impressed with the results. I really did feel different by the end of the month. I would definitely do it again. The book was easy to understand and the program was easy to follow. The only thing that I did not like about this book was that it seemed to be written for morons. The book did not explain any of the basic science behind the program. It left me with lots of questions about why I was to eat certain foods and not others. I had to use other health manuals that I happened to already own to figure out why the author was suggesting certain things. I would have preferred to have more information directly in the book. The author seemed to assume that people reading the book would not understand simple nutritional information, so she did not even bother to explain it at all. I found that a little insulting. Also, I found the "testimonials" in the book a little unbelievable. They just seemed fictional.
5-0 out of 5 stars Feeling brilliant
My partner and myself are doing the programme and have less than a week left. So far Ican see and feel a difference. I sleep better, can think clearly, am a lot fitter and feel better about life in general. I suffered from a lot of headaches for about 2 weeks at the start and felt tired for the first week but this was explained in the book. Then things just went from better to even better. We'll continue to do a lot of the things in the future, like cutting out caffeine completely, having hot water and lemon first thing in the morning, exercise each day. The detox programme also got me looking at what is actually in the foods we buy. 5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended - Total Clean Out
I decided to give the DETOX another go, after trying it for a maximum of 4 days about two years ago.I completed the 30 day detox about 3 weeks ago with the help of a colleague and it was the best feeling my body has ever experienced in a long time.I have totally given up smoking - a lot easier when on the detox programme as the cravings stop within the first week.I have also cut back on my consumption of meat and think twice about eating the wrong type of foods.I still have the cold showers in the mornings - a brilliant way to "wake up" and start every day with lemon and hot water. In fact, my other colleagues are going to do the detox next month - so not only does it show on the inside - it must also show on the outside! All I can say is "Give it a go" - you'll love the result! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars life changing
I read this book years ago and it was life changing.Terry Kellogg clearly explains family dysfunction in a personal way that really rang true for me.I have read a lot of these types of books but HIS was the best--gentle, sad, truth but with an offer of hope at the end. I had so many 'lightbulb' moments reading this--wish he had of written it when I was a teen.Ohwell--when the student is ready the teacher will come.

5-0 out of 5 stars spiritual awareness
This book explains co-dependency more clearly than any other book I have read on the subject. Way more information than I ever expected. Want to get the sequel Broken Silence. Do you have it?

4-0 out of 5 stars A light in the darkness
I got this devotional several years ago, and it gave me hope.5-0 out of 5 stars little steps toward recovery
As a former patient of Remuda, I was given this book on my first day of treatment.I read it faithfully throughout the year, and I found hope and encouragement in those pages as I read the stories of women like me.For anyone struggling with an eating disorder or for their loved ones, this book is an important tool for recovery.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
I got this book about four years ago and it was the first book I read about ritual abuse. When I got the book I didn't know anything about ritual abuse apart from my own past and I didn't really know what I was looking for in a book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put the book down. It is wonderfull and has helped me so much. I only wish I could find more books like this one.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not worth the paper it's printed on
I'm sorry; I must disagree with all of the positive reviews.I thought this book would be a reasonable, sound overview of problems and treatment methods, but it is not.
3-0 out of 5 stars A helpful but incomplete resource
I'd recommended this book to survivors and health care professionals seeking greater insights into ritual abuse. While I found a great deal of helpful information, the book falls short in two main areas: it fails to adequately address the issues of trauma based multiplicity and little if any mention is given to the more spiritual aspects healing.
