Becoming your own loving parent
Hassan El-Amin opens the book with an extraordinary chapter on the description of our inner child.This inner child can either be nutured or neglected and manifests itself subconciously throughout our lives via our thoughts and our actions. Insightful, Thought-Provoking, Honest and Refreshing:
Never have I read a book so touching and revealing. Coming Face to Face with Your �Inner Me� gave me a rare opportunity to journey through the mind of a child of an alcoholic and in the process helped me understand why facing our past is essential for our spiritual growth. The writer�s journey not only takes you into his past but helps you discover the injured innocence that�s inside us all. You don�t have to be a child of an alcoholic to understand and relate to his struggles and final triumph. This is as much a book about discovering our humanity in the midst of pain and hardship as it is about healing our broken heart and nourishing our soul. I highly recommend this book and thank the author for having the courage to write such an incredible book.

Long Day's Outrageous Journey
What a rip roaring road trip.More ups and downs than a Six Flagsride and more entertaining.One of the best memoirs in the last few years.

Coming of age story of the highest order
The author combines memoir, travelogue and coming of age story forms to take you with him on a sad but incredibly funny journey with his alcoholic, grass-is-always-greener father.The facts are heartbreaking but the boy is gonna make it and you know that as you go with him.If you having any wanderlust you will be looking out the window after reading this book.The writing is first-rate with memorable passages.I read half of the book before leaving the bookstore!It didn't hurt that he starts his journey in Albany, which happens to be my home, getting all the details right as he heads to California.But all the rest is purely universal.A must read.
