5-0 out of 5 stars This book contains true gems!
This is indeed a tour-de-force through contemporary Psychometrics. On the Wow! side.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely wonderful
The book is an absolutely wonderful tribute to Rod McDonald.Like his work, it covers all areas of psychometrics from classical test theory to item response theory to covariance structure modeling. The topics range from those of historical interest such as rotational indeterminancy to the most state of the art advances in the field such as modeling time series processes.Other chapters integrate topics into cohesive frameworks, such as the chapter by Marsh, Hau, and Grayson on goodness of fit, the chapter by Harlow which focuses on the themes underlying multivariate statistics, and the chapter by Maydeu-Olivares which provides a unified framework for item response theory and covariance structure modeling.I highly recommend the book to those in the field of psychometrics; it is an indispensable resource for the field. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Must-Have for Future Private Practice Psychologists
Over the past year, I have accumulated several books about starting a private practice in preparation for diving into the fray early next year.Dr. Pepping's book is by far the best one.Although it's specifically aimed at neuropsychologists, I believe that any psychologist considering private practice would benefit from this book.I have several of the "APA Practitioner's Toolbox Series" books. They are good, but very dry (they double as sleep aids when you become anxiety-ridden about starting a private practice).I also have a couple of private practice books written by MFTs/therapists.These books have also been helpful, but they're on the other end of the spectrum from APA:These books tend to be fluffy, and much of the information that's provided requires only good common sense.Additionally, these books are aimed at masters' level practitioners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the many psychotherapies
This book provides excellent introductions to a variety of psychotherapies, indeed the most popular methods today. There are over 400 different therapies, and as such this book can not cover them all. However, the book does provide adequate detail for an indepth overview of the therapies, and comes highly recommended to beginning students and graduate students alike.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
This book gives brief but thorough explanations of the various theories used in clinical practice. This book is dull, at times, but highly useful. A great addition to any knowledge base.

4-0 out of 5 stars The psychotherapy book
I used this book as a student in my psychotherapy course. I never knew there were so many psychotherapeutic approaches. I was amazed. I enjoyed exploring all these schools analyzed so beautifully in this book. I finally got the chance to see what school of psychotherapy was closer to my needs. I recommend it to all those who have a blurry idea of psychotherapy, like I did. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best "how to" Client-Server testing books ever...
I have been doing SQA and related engineering for almost twenty years and have not seen many books that actually get into the "nuts and bolts" of software testing as well as this one does. Mosley takes great pains to insure that whether you are a newcomer to SQA or a seasoned pro, something is here for you. I recently moved from a strictly software testing environment to a Client-Server environment and used this book extensively to "get up to speed" with the new internet testing concepts presented in this publication. Very practical examples, clear explanations and a thorough knowledge of the topic. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is new to the field and any one needs ideas on how to put a test environment together that really produces immediate results. I have worked on many software engineering projects over the past twenty years and wished many times for a book like this, now its here.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you buy only one software test book, buy this one...
Of all the sofware testing books I've read, Mosley's stands out as the easiest to read, and contains real-world tangible examples that can be put to use immediatley. His Test Plan outlines are excellent and are built from IEEE standards. Lots of useful information and minimum test philosophy.Like many client-server books, the focus is primarily e-commerce, but thetest approaches can be applied to any multi-user GUI application. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ignore the editorial review!
I had to laugh at the editorial review, which accuses Dr. Jacobsen of being "elitist," one of the many criticisms that gifted people receive.Maybe that reviewer should have read the book more carefully. This is a terrific book that will help people realize their potential. That's a good thing for the world and should not be discouraged or belittled.
5-0 out of 5 stars a life changer!
I found this book very helpful in learning to understand my creativity/ idealism and drivenness, that these things are normal for about 8% of the population and I am not alone or wierd, just gifted.Very reassuring and confidence boosting.
4-0 out of 5 stars living more fully as an exceptional person
In an article in Advanced Development journal, Mary-Elaine Jacobsen noted the typical stereotypes of gifted people include the "temperamental artist, or the pathetic isolate whose brainy abilities are lost in foolishness, alcoholism or chronic depression," and the glittering superstar in the arts or sciences with talents elevating them [more or less effortlessly] to "an unreachable pedestal of human achievement."

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Text for Mental Health Professionals
If you want to improve your diagnostic and assessment skills, this is one of the best investments you can make in a book. Rogers' books are always well-researched and this one is no exception. Don't rely on "clinical lore" to guide your assessment procedures (e.g., did you know that asking patients to explain the meaning of a proverb is an unreliable method to measure, even roughly, abstract reasoning ability?) You not only will learn which instruments are the most reliable and valid, Rogers will also guide your selection of instruments so that you use the instrument most appropriate for the patient population that you serve. Forensic psychologists and psychiatrists, you should also read this text to ensure that your assessment procedures will stand up under scrutiny, under Daubert criteria or otherwise. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars 2002 Updates for DSM IV-TR and IDEA 97 Revised
Alvin House incorporates some true wisdom into this reference.Indeed they are in my opinion bits of details that are either not taught in grad schoolsor not emphasized in training people to work with school populations. As opposed to adults, he points up, children's diagnoses are fluid and evolving- there are, if we are effectively treating the conditions, more opportunities to bypass chronicity and co-morbid patterns. Less matching symptom to condition to diagnosis. (Another reason, for the No Child Left Behind Folks- to re-evaluate frequently- not, as they would have, to eliminate the need for the 3 year requirement.)Furthermore, he warns of a real personal irritant, and that isNOT TO TAKE KIDS AT THEIR WORD, when discussing their emotions and their reactions to their world. He puts it better than anyone I've ever heard when he says that when you're ruling out mental illness, depression, anxiety, etc. remember, "Kids walk the walk, they don't talk the talk!."You need to use collateral information, observation, medical reports, etc. Some other gems-Always be careful with a personality diagnosis and never diagnose when the youngster is in the throes of an acute mood disorder, depressive reaction, adjustment, etc. 4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT SPECIAL EDUCATOR'S RESOURCE!
This is a excellent resource for the special education teacher. The information given in this book helps decipher many terms used in psychiatric evaluation of students with special needs. This is definitely a valuable tool for anyone working in Special Education.

5-0 out of 5 stars An absolute necessity for all school psychology students.
This is a well organized, clearly written text that takes the reader step by step through the DSM-IV process. It presents a strong rationale for the use of the DSM-IV in schools and points to the importance of developing aclinical perspective within the field of school psychology. This is awonderful text.It should be required for all school psychology students. ... Read more
