Highly recommended.
Although this book is a bit pricey it is well worth the money.It has wonderful introductory sections that address all aspects of basic developmental biology including a description of development of specific organs, signaling pathways, and relevant molecular processes.By describing how these processes can go awry as a consequence of gene mutation it manages to make clear why an understanding of developmental biology has direct impact on biomedicine.It is densely packed with important information and makes an excellent reference manual.My graduate students loved it! ... Great Resource
If you are looking for a good resource on learning how to use AMOS for structural equation modeling, this is definitely the book. It is easy to understand and well laid out. Well recommended, especially for teaching SEM to students.

wonderful if familiar w/stats + new to sem
This book is a wonderful guide to understanding a good range of basics about sem, getting models to work with Amos, and interpreting your output. You will need to be familiar with one of the stats packages that Amos is compatible with. Very much user-friendly in this complicated topic. All of the statistically-related and theory-related aspects are well-referenced, so you can find sources to reference for different aspects of sem. BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR -- BEST BUY
This is a wonderful, fun, and powerful book, filled with great learning strategies and resources.
No difference than other stuff on how to improve your intelligence
I am not for sure how the one review gave this book 5 star.First off, the author has you do quizzes in which he does not lay the foundation for getting them right until later in the chapters.For example, quiz 1 is in the introduction and he talks about which one these books did Hester Prynne write, which author composed the Five Bird, etc but in the pages before the quiz, there is no foundation for the quiz.What's the point of them without a foundation?

I deluded myself for many years thinking that my intelligence was just as attractive as it was back in college. During those years of youthful hubris, I took for granted my taut verbal capacity, my long, flowing spatial ability, and especially my sculpted, well-defined reasoning and logic. A poorly designed study aid for the Boards.
This was a poorly designed study guide for the National Boards in Psychiatry, with many badly thought out questions.Internal inconsistencies, confusing questions, or downright incorrect material was not hard to come by. For example, strategically omitted "nots"--as in "which of the following do not occur"--transformed some questions to nonsense. Furthermore, half the questions are of the now-obsolete "K" type.I would advise those preparing for the boards to save their money and apply it toward a prep course or another book. ... Read more

Bad book, but has the MMPI-2 in an appendix
How on earth the MMPI-2 test managed to be leaked out in this book I have no idea.I do know that the psychology community must be hopping mad about it.It is supossed to be a closely guarded secret, so that when they test people with it the person does not know what they will be asked and cannot cheat the test.Apparently the author realized that the rest of his book was horrible, and put the test in an appendix to get people to buy his book.I am sure that if this was his plan, he has been rather sucessful.

Most objective book on the topic, still room for a classic, though
This book could have been a classic. Following "The Bell Curve", a provocative mid-90s book that argued for underlying genetic causes to black-white achievement gaps, a rigorous, articulate rebuttal was necessary to show that gaps do exist, but there are causes beyond genetics that can be addressed to reduce inequality. "Black White Test Score Gap" is certainly a rigorous rebuttal, but this book is really, really hard to understand unless you have completed a quality statistics course. This book is clearly written for a purely academic audience, and I struggled with it, despite having a strong nonstatistics math background and a hunger for reading social science books such as William Julius Wilson's "The Declining Significance of Race".
An Almost Solid Meta-Analysis of a Persistent but Not-So Perplexing Educational Problem
The editors of this collection of carefully worded journal articles have brought the public (and often less informed) debate about racial disparity in test score results back to the academic arena at a critical juncture. As another reviewer noted, the quantitative analysis can and does indeed distract from the thrust of the arguments being put forward, but not overly so unless one is a lay reader uninitiated in this lingering debate. If you have grown weary of ideologically-charged elements in this debate, you will welcome this collection. The editors have included articles that address with varying degrees of success the many issues and causes which come to the fore when the topic of the test score gap is broached. My only criticism is that more should have been offered by way of a contrasting viewpoint about how the current phenomenon of the decline (and in many instances) disintegration of the nuclear black family has exacerbated this racial learning gap. Concern for a lack of social and economic capital is legitimate fodder for discussion but one should not ignore the elephant in the parlor--the fact that 7 in 10 black children are now born out of wedlock.

i personally believe that environment has a larger effect on black test scores compared to the other races. but it's not the whole story either, and is definitely isn't "everything to do with nurture". the true answer lies somewhere between this book and the 'bell curve'. there are racial differences. these are easily measurable in athletics (ex. the dominance of west african sprinters, east african long distance runners, arab north african middle distance runners, eastern european/russian weightlifters, white swimmers), but not so easily measured in 'intelligence'. there are macro differences which are readily apparent (advances in civilizations/cultures (arts, sciences, wealth, infrastructure, etc.)). but to blame everything nazi-style on race would be equally incorrect. there are differences between the races and their capacities to do (or excel) at things. but the genetic component is small and can be no more than plus or minus 10 percent (between the races) for the average person. there's always that one russian guy in the 100m olympic sprint final, and there are black geniuses. so the average black student in america isn't genetically inferior to the other students, they are mostly being held down by the shortsighted black 'community' and lack of both parents in the average 'family', not being taught discipline and responsibility, etc. ... Great primary reference
This is a great primary reference work.It has a few amusing bits of Classical Test Theory-bashing polemic, which seem both pointless and de rigeur for IRT practitioners.In almost all other aspects, however, this is a well thought-out and highly useful primer for anyone looking to get up-to-speed quickly on using IRT methods to expand and improve their measurement strategies.

Excellent Introduction to the Rasch Model
An excellent contribution to theory and practice.The book is a lucid introduction to the one-parameter IRT methodology that is extremely well-written.

Clear, Concise and Fun!
This is a book which takes a daunting subject and treats it in such a fashion that immediately draws the most novice researcher to the topic.The authors take their subject seriously, and take themselves not seriously at all.The result is that rare combination of the "how-to" technical aspects of Rasch Analysis with an entertaining and informative discussion of the theoretical basis of the subject.An enjoyable read, and filled with helpful and useful information.A must for the professional library of any researcher! ... keep it simple
This book is very concise and plainly written. I began working in Special Ed. not so long ago, and found this book full of helpful information and I especially like the "keep it simple" side bars. The first time I had to write up a behavioral analysis,I used this book as a guide, and it made the process so much easier! Recently took a graduate level course in Autism and the practicing instructor felt the book was one that she would add to her reference library also. I used this book as a blueprint for beginning new behavior mod programs with my one-on-one student, and with this guide I was able to decide which behaviors were the best ones to begin on.
