I prefer this kind of pocket-sized, concise guide to health care.The mneumonics were especially helpful to remember the identifying characteristics of different conditions.With appendices of patienteducation handouts and intake forms, this book is very complete for itssmall size.

Informative, easy to follow and understand
After purchasing many books on Autism Spectrum Disorders I finally found one that made it clear what to do with the diagnosis, how to get help, and how to handle a part of my life that has seemed so out of control. After my son was diagnosed I had no idea what to do. This book covers all of my questions and answered them clearly. I especially love the real life stories the Doyle sisters use to help me "get it".
EASY to read!
I highly recommend this book which is logically organized in an easy-to-read format.As the title suggests, it answered all my questions regarding early signs and symptoms, the difference between an autism spectrum disorder and ADHD, appropriate testing and diagnosis, all the way through interventions and treatment.The two authors include case history and examples that parents can relate to, especially since one of the authors is a parent of a child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.I have referred to this book many times to quickly look up information, and have found the bulleted lists and tables extremely helpful, especially since I am a visual learner!

Emergenetics
Its great on theory, its demonstrate we as individual are a complex being and our profile is seasonal. The main reason I bought the book is to find out about my profile and disappointed not finding any starter or basic self help tool kit in the book other than visiting the book website and an additional payment of $100 is needed before result can be delivered to me.

Very Insightful! There would be less misunderstandings in the world if everyone knew everyone else's profile!
I found this book very interesting. It is about what the author describes as the 4 thinking attributes (Social, Conceptual, Analytical and Structural) and 3 behavioral attributes (Expressiveness, Assertivess and Flexibility), how to identify attributes in people and yourself, how you can interact with others based on others attributes, how to make better decisions and how to create and work in great teams (among other things).

Despite its clumsy name, Geil Browining's Emergenetics, offers practical and pragmatic advice on how to assess one's thinking and behavioral preferences on seven useful dimensions. Analytical, Structural, Conceptual and Social cover the thinking preferences and Expressiveness, Assertiveness and Flexibility cover the behavioral preferences. Emergenetics is the practice of developing thinking and behavior profiles on hundreds of thousands of individuals, analyzing these profiles for general understanding of individuals and groups and applying them to the improvement of personal and team effectiveness. Essential
I was originally loaned a copy of this book by my academic advisor.I quickly ordered my own copy.This should be required reading for every mental health worker.It has helped me to learn more about how to perform a complete and competent intake, as well as assign a diagnosis.It is the best of its kind that I have found for the novice clinician.

Dr. Othmer is a remarkable teacher
This book (and its companion "The Difficult Patient") are highly readable and very rewarding.As a practicing psychiatrist using it to prepare for the oral boards, I can tell you that I learned many things -- both practical tips and theoretical insights.I had originally thought these two books were "filler" by the APP to capitalize on the release of DSM-IV, but boy was I wrong!It is an absolute winner in its own right, regardless of the publisher.Thank you, Drs. Don't sell your book
This is a great book. If you are an undergraduate, don't sell your book. YOu may think you've heard about these studies and you wouldn't refer back to the book, but I wish I hadn't sold mine. They are the landmark studies that I keep wishing I could use for a paper, and will probably be on the GRE. Little Albert afraid of every furry thing, Bandura's learning through observation, and even some Freud, though he didn't really do any studies and it ticked off my prof that he was in there. I'm now re-buying the book because there have been too many times I've wished I've had it since the class was over a semester ago.
