5-0 out of 5 stars One of those books you don't forget about
I remember reading this book when I first became engaged. My wife and I (we've been married more than 14 years now) went through premarital counseling and decided to read a variety of Christian books to help us better understand just what we were getting into. The Gift of Sex helped us to deal with some myths that we may have been holding, and it prepared us for the first night as well as the rest of our lives. While their drawings of the body can sometimes be pretty scary-looking, it was good for us to have a full understanding of what it was going to take to make our sexual relationship work. Not only do we have different bodies, but we also have different needs. Needless to say, we're still working hard to perfect the techniques, but I would say it's better for both of us to have the same understanding, which helps dispel many myths. I would recommend this book for couples to read together, especially those who are about to be married. It will be an eye-opener for many in an issue that is not very easy to talk about in front of other people.

5-0 out of 5 stars A gift of understanding
I bought this book as a last ditch effort to help me understand some problems I was experiencing with my husband. This book is geared toward understanding self as well as understanding one's mate. The book is also replete with references as to when a couple should consult an outside professional, and direction on how to communicate with one another to solve problems when possible. The Penners are great at reconciling Biblical scriptural facts with the understanding that each of us is human. They do not talk down to or above the reader, rather they speak in language that all can relate to. They include medically based drawings that help the reader understand how their body and their spouse's body functions. This is great for the newlywed who may not know, as well as the older couples who may have forgotten.I especially appreciated the various scenarios that relate the real experiences of real people that helped me to see that others really do have similar problems.5-0 out of 5 stars A Good Book For People Who Want Some Soul In Sex
The problem with many books about sex is that, in the guise of offering supposedly racy, new, stimulating ideas and images about sex, it is in fact quite boring and unimaginative. That may suit some readers, at some time. For the person looking for more depth in erotic expression, The Gift of Sexis a good place to start. With a strong Christian component, I wouldrecommend this book to Christian readers in general, and specifically tothose who may feel some conflict about their sexual feelings and sexualexpression.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun Romp through Her-story
So often I read reviews about historical books that suggest they are interesting, only to buy them and discover they are as interesting as the text on a shampoo bottle. What a drag.
5-0 out of 5 stars Why don't they teach this stuff in school?!
If history teachers included a book like "Sex with Kings" on their class reading lists, they'd probably be rewarded with a slew of overeager students! Eleanor Herman's book is basically a summary of the art of being a royal mistress. Many different illicit royal relationships are covered in the book, from King David and Bathsheba to Charles and Camilla. Rather than just compile a biography of famous mistresses in history, Herman dives into the specific qualities that made a mistress successful. In order to make a decent living as a royal mistresses, not only did women have to know how to please a king in bed, but they also had to orchestrate a lot of other maneuvers as well: provide intellectual conversation, riveting entertainment, indulgence in the king's boring hobbies and stories, etc. Additionally, a good mistress would figure out ways to "save for retirement." Since most mistresses would inevitably be tossed out on their rear ends when the king tired of them or a younger, prettier woman came along, it was imperative that royal mistresses secure their financial futures by keeping lots of cash on hand, acquiring land and titles, and having as many illegitimate children as possible.
2-0 out of 5 stars "Sex with the Queen" is Better...
I was rather disappointed in this book.It was not well organized at all.Too much time is given to the same kings (Louis XIV and Charles II) and mistresses and the book jumps all over the place in general, which is a major distraction.I can't believe she spent so little time on Edward VII, arguably one of the most randy kings in history. The barest mention is made of any king prior to Charles II. And there is hardly any mention of Russian Czars and their mistresses. Her follow-up book, "Sex with the Queen", is MUCH better. She put that book in chronological order, which I think would have served this material much better. It would indeed have been interesting to see the development of the mistress' powers throughout the centuries. This book is OK, but not the page-turner it could have been. Do yourself a favor and buy "Sex with the Queen" instead. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Hot AND Romantic...
This book has tons of creative ideas I hadn't thought of but that are truly inspiring... I was surprised (and psyched) to see how many of the games aren't just sexy, but also super-romantic. Check out Bed, Bath and Way Beyond, for example--what woman *wouldn't* want to be pampered like that? My boyfriend *loves* this book--it's fun paging through it with him and picking out games to try together. (There are games for him as well as me, so that keeps it interesting ;)...) He was pretty excited when I brought it home, believe me--and it keeps paying off... Not just in making sex more fun, either. I swear my boyfriend is giving me more massages now, giving me more compliments and just generally paying more attention to me in and out of the bedroom. Even if you've never tried anything but vanilla sex, you'll get into this book--the games are called games because they're fun! Everything's rated from mild to wild, so you can start slow if you want--or go straight to the super-spicy... Consider me a very satisfied Dominant Diva!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Whoa--Talk about innovative sex games!
This book has some really cool and HOT things I've never tried before...
5-0 out of 5 stars Finally!A How to Book That Actually Tells How To!
This book details exactly how to go about taking charge of your sex life.If you are a woman curious about how to start experimenting with some role play in your sex life, this is the perfect book for you.It details step by step how to set up role play scenes: what to wear, what props you might need, what to say, how to to go about every aspect of spicing up your sex life. And it is full of ideas for the timid to the daring so I can see using this book for a long time. The fantasies are hot, so just reading this book will add some heat before you even start trying it out.Perfect for the woman who wants to take control (or a man who wants his woman to take control to give as a gift). This book is not too wild or severe like some others about power exchange and it really does tell you "how to". ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Irresistible read.
This book was recommended to me by Amazon; after reading a few comments I was curious as to way this book got such high marks. I've read quite a few books on attraction, and I have to say this book does a great job of synthesizing a lot of the information your likely to come across. I had the luck of just finishing The Evolution of Desire by David Buss, which happens to be in the bibliography. I saw key elements of Buss' book simplified for easier reading. I have no doubt that Irresistible Attraction simplifies other sources in the same manner. The book, though not original contains a lot of useful information about attraction and personal magnetism.

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable to Anyone
This book is valuable to anyone because of two points that jumped out at me when I recently read "Irresistible Attraction" for the second time.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the few with originality
Having read upward of 50 books on charisma and the like, I rarely see anything of note anymore. However, this book suprised me. Though it has a lot of the same stuff, there were actually some original and new ideas. If you're bored of reading the same old stuff over and over again, pick this one up.I don't think you'll be disappointed. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for men and women
Marvin Allen's straightforward, easy-to-read style of writing makes this book a must for anyone who wants to understand why men think and act the way they do, and how they differ from women emotionally. Many clients' stories and first-hand accounts help illustrate the points the author makes. The appendix offers additional resources for further study/help. As a quote on the front cover states, this is especially "a perfect book to give to a man who is suspicious of therapy and therapists" as well as a must-read for the women they love.

3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the Man's Anger??
The book was good at describing how a man may have obtained his anger and was insightful. It did lack the father who was hostile in a psychological manner through manipulation, subtle verbal abuse, and unfair treatment in comparison to other siblings. There was a mention of obvious verbal abusive but nothing on subtle abuse. What about the man who wasn't physically abused or told outright that he was a loser??Also, the chapters on love relationships were geared toward the passive angry man and did not take into account the angry man who uses things like verbal abuse and control against his spouse.Men who are angry are often abusive themselves. The controlling man already has control over his "dominion" and the wife does not get to pick the "furniture", etc....To an angry verbally abusive man telling him that he should have his way at home when he already has control issues will only make things worse. It is good to address the passive man who never speaks up but there was a lack of attention to the angry man who will only allow his way.Lets not go to extremes in either the Men's movement or Women's movement. Each individual is valuable. The book does not talk about how to create mutuality and work as a partner or team (compromise in decision making). It merely talks about men taking control. This book may be good for the passive man who is angry but may further enhance characteristics of the man who is the "nice" guy to everyone outside his intimate relationship and a controlling verbally abusive guy to his spouse. The book would be much better if it had addressed the issues of a mutual relationship and the extreme of being vebally abusive versus speaking up.Speaking up for oneself does not mean disregarding your partners feelings or desires.A relationship should involve both parties making decisions and compromising when there is a difference of opinion.

4-0 out of 5 stars My dear sir, everything I do is masculine! . . .
Angry Men, Passive Men - understanding the roots of men's anger and how to move beyond it. This excellent volume is replete with personal stories, examples from real life men's support groups, and knowledgeable advice from a practicing therapist. It was, apparently, first published as "In the Company of Men."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Poignant
If you looking to Vicariously share in the Fantasies Jean played out with her Clients, this really isn't your book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Sad and shallow
I picked up this book hoping to find out something new about the world of prostitution.Unfortunately this book doesn't deliver.A sad broke woman, many sad sexually unfilled men who behave in controlling, sometimes agressive dangerous ways, and a madam who manipulatively calls the shots reveal nothing new about the topic. I was, however, repeatedly amazed at the author's minimizations of how this work was damaging and dangerous to her, not just physically and emotionally, but at a soul level.I didn't need for the author to experience redemption, but rather transformation of some sort beyond just changing the circumstances of her life from teaching & prostitution to marriage and kids. After I finished it, I was left feeling sad and depleted.

1-0 out of 5 stars "Scintillating".....NOT
Pathetic was more the adjective that came to mind as I read this terribly written book. Yale Divinity grad? Other "advanced" degrees? Oh, dear. For all her supposed knowledge I didn't find her very enlightened. I give her 1 star for writing and publishing a book, (non-fiction?????hhhmmmm....) because that's more than I've ever done. So what message to the author do I have? That "class" is not defined by someone who listens to opera (one of her clients) and that knowledge obviously does not guarantee wisdom. The pathetic aspect of this tale was although she tried very hard to justify her reasons for prostitution, I cringed each time she indicated how happy, (smug??) she was because someone desired HER enough to pay $200 an hr. Wait. I thought she just finished telling us that men are pigs. IF this is a true story I feel sorry for her. And how old is Scuzzy by the end of the book anyway??? Fast forward and suddenly she's married I think with kids etc. True Confessions mags are more scintillating....when you're 13,not to mention possibly better written. One final note to author. Yes, I am sure. No, I would not do this to make $. Not because of being a prude morally but because of all the yuk factor out there. Geez, I wear gloves in my profession to draw blood on sweet little old ladies and children. No way strangers' body parts are going into me no matter how much $$ is on the table. YUK. But for others, well like her Pakistani client, ooops I mean lover....oops I mean pig/client, 'whatever.' ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars so funny
I bought this book for a guy I was dating whom had never in his life done "the deed". I got the book after I dumped him(not for that reason)lol. So me and my friends read it. It is really funny and a fun fast read.I highly recommend it.And it could give your boyfriend or girlfriend some pointers.

1-0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get to point...
I really didn't like this book, the author spends all of her time either talking about herself of her girlfriends, she seems to fill up the book with other stories then to talk about technique in depth, and the only chapter in book that talks about technique has nothing in it!...her descripton of the clitoris is mixed up,and her writing style is confusing...the drawing of the vagina is not clear at all it's not well drawn it looks weird...

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding and appreciating men
Absolute must reading for anyone who wants to understand the meaning behind what boys and men do and the reason behind their behaviors. Amust read for wives and mothers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Short, hard hitting, and to the point
This book is roughly 135 pages. It covers a wide range of relatively complex ideas presented in a clear, well organized manner.Ever notice that when someone really understands something they don't need 300 pages to explain it?
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books i ever read
Between an ex husband that dove off the deep end and a son living with two strong women and without an appropriate father figure, I have been wondering both what makes men snap like that, and what consequence living without a father might have on my son. How to be a mother and a father to him, how not to hurt my baby in the way I see people around me, and myself, hurting and thus hurting others. I believe every mother and father should read this. It truly spoke to me, and I would not put it down until I was done with it some time early this morning. Written in a language everyone can understand.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Discovery of the Orgone
Wilhelm Reich's most detailed review of his experiments in the U.S. outside of his psychiatric practice. In this text he explains thoroughly HIS discovery of the Orgone (chi, prana, ki) and its origins (I emphasize HIS discovery because every person stands to discover something different as it relates to them). He found it to be a cosmic energy, all pervading, emanating towards healthy life, healing, and protecting. He used it in several documented cases to cure cancer (thus the title). He experimented with it in combating nuclear radiation (and made one of his leaps into metaphysics), stating that orgone energy and nuclear radiation are opposing forces (the manifestations of good and evil). This point is highly controversial and became a jump off point for his desires to show people what he had spent his life doing, and how his ostrisisation from the mainstream medical societies he once was a part of was un-called for.He and his staff encounter an unnatural resistance to disease, increased eyesight (no need to wear glasses), increased circulation, and other positive reactions to daily orgone accumulation. The very same accumulators are described in this book, and even more on the internet... what more to say?Wilhelm Reich is considered to be a quack by most people, and yet no one denies he actually cured the people he had in his care through the use of a 'box' (that used no electricity, and is only made of alternating layers of steel wool, and lambs wool), in which the patients sat for 30 min. to an hour.As always, read for yourself, find someone with an orgone energy accumulator, feel and experience for yourself. ... Editorial Review

It is wonderful and weirdly fitting that one of the jacket blurbs for this work of social anthropology is by sex educator and former porn star Annie Sprinkle. Just as there is nothing dry or remote about Annie Sprinkle's delivery, there is nothing dry or remote about Don Kulick's. In fact, this may be the most readable and engaging study of transgenderism to surface in years. For seven months in 1994, Kulick lived in a household of "travestis"--Brazilian male prostitutes who live as women. He constantly tape-recorded their casual conversations, whether on the street soliciting customers or in their small rooms in the ghettos of Salvador, and has been able to trace the motivations behind their behavior and body modifications with plausibility and compassion. So absorbing are the details of the travestis' lives, as recounted by Kulick, that the reader can easily miss the author's equally acute analysis of their often bizarre transformations and of what travestis, with their exaggerated performance of "femininity," suggest about the construction of gender in Brazil. 4-0 out of 5 stars very graphic
I wasn't sure what to expect when I picked up Travesti. All I knew was that I would be in for a treat just by looking at the cover.Kulick who is an anthropologist who studied the lives transvestites in Brazil as he became friends with them he got all of the inside scoop and included it in his book.He talks about the travestis that come from Italy to do business in Brazil where these things are more acceptable. Some of the people he interviews talk about how they started in the business, they talk about the ups and downs of their jobs. I found some of the stories to be very graphic. The lives of these men are sometimes beyond their choice of living. Some of them believe they were born into it.The stories are very realistic and in some cases tragic.I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone whose clsed minded. However if you find it initeresting to read about the harsh realities of the world then this is the book for you.

4-0 out of 5 stars O bicho pegou!
I found this book to be very well written and, in several instances, it made me long to return to my anthropological studies at NYU.Had I only been a curious reader I probably would have found this book brilliant, but my reading was shaded by the fact that I personally know many travestis in Salvador (Peruco, Xuxuca, Kit Mahoney, Angelica) and therefore found the exclusion of several things to be particularly odd.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Anthropological Work -- Worth the Read
Don Kulick provides an excellent example of anthropologists dealing with the tough issues of gender and sexuality research. He demonstrates how connected anthropologists become to those they study; and further challenges us to consider closeness, concern, and friendship with our informants as methodologies that speak not only to our own humanity as anthropologists but also to the humanity of our communities of study.I have used this book to teach introduction to cultural anthropology course and it is a perfect blend of theory, narrative, and insight which keeps students engaged and asking the difficult questions of conducting cultural anthropological research. I applaud Kulick and thank him immensely for his work!GET A COPY :) ! ... Read more

If you are interested of the teaching of the Kama Sutra in a no pectoral version, then this book will teach you every thing you have ever wanted to know about Kama Sutra, just with all those dirty pictures.

2-0 out of 5 stars disappointed
More of a research tool.Unless your planning on becoming a "kept woman" or keeping one half the book is useless--doesn't pertain much to a married couple.Completely disappointed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Culture, history, and practice
This is an outstanding new translation of the Indian classic, dating from the fourth century BC. It is widely misunderstood in the west, largely by people who never read it, but also by people who only read Burton's unfortunate Victorian translation. Well over 500 pages, this may seem intimidating - I promise you, it's worth your effort.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good!
A book that explains all the sensations that race through a man's mind when he is at his sexual peak, the problems, the successes and the goals. Very good for the teenager or for the curious adult male, but not very helpful when dealing with sexual disorders and treatments. For that I recommend "Natural Penis Enlargement: New methods of avoiding and curing impotence, premature ejaculation, and erectile dysfunction safely and inexpensively. NEW Secrets that your doctor won't tell you, No Pumps, No Pills and No Gadgets!" by Platinum Millennium, a book that helped me regain my sexual vitality

1-0 out of 5 stars Misleading
I bought this book at a desperate point in my life hoping to learn more about my sexuality as a young man. However, as a scientist, I can't say that it contains anything substantial. The book starts off by claiming to be scientific, objective and not particularly religious but by the end of it the author is literally asking us to beseech the Christian god for help. The book is filled with endless bar charts that really get in the way of whatever point Dr. Hart is trying to get across. Most of the time he assumes that Christian men of faith are, "as good as it gets" and morally superior to other men. So, whatever problems Christian men are having imply that other 'regular' men must be having it worse. He presents nothing new in the way of tested techniques to help men deal with their sexuality except for the usual, "try hard not to do it" advice we could get from anyone.Unless you're a deeply religious young Christian man having trouble with your libido, I cannot honestly recommend this book. His survey results would have been much more useful if not tainted by his evangelical interpretations. I finally realize why this 'scientific' book was placed under the 'Christian' section at the book store.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "Must Read" for both men & women....
"The Sexual Man" is an excellent book for both men and women, whether you're reading it for your own information, or currently in a relationship or hope to be in one in the future. It's a no-nonsense, thoughtful and thought provoking, insightful book on male sexual arousal, drive, and viewpoints. I highly recommend it for both men and women, especially if you want to achieve a better understanding and intimacy in your relationship. There are also graphs in each chapter that help illustate the responses of men in the nationwide research surveys used in the book.Very easily read; the information is in "layman's terms", and covers a wide variety of topics relating to male sexuality. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!!!
It's great to know that women have the same fantasies as men.I loved this book and continue to savor it as the years go by.Wish she would write another one.

5-0 out of 5 stars Would Make A Playboy Blush
Nancy Friday asked women from around the world to send in their sexual experiences and fantasies. The result was some of the most provocative reading ever published. If you embarrass easily, this book is not for you. Just about every sexual taboo is mentioned in this book and in great detail. But beyond the fantasies and experiences of these women, are the comments and observations of Nancy Friday herself. This book can be an awakening for any man or woman. An awakening in that, if you have had a certain type of fantasy or experience and feel that you are the only person in the world who has had such, you may learn of others who have had similar ones. Or you may be awakened to fantasies you have never thought of, but after reading the book, find yourself thinking about them, or desiring to do them. I have owned a number of copies of this revealing book only to have different individuals borrow them and never return them. I recall once when I was in a snack bar reading the book, some women noticed it and inquired about its contents. I told them what the book was about and they said, it's very good on my part to be interested in what women think about. They then wanted to read a page, just to see what it was all about. But they didn't end up reading only one page. They kept on reading and reading and reading. I finally had to ask for the book in order to get it back, and half of them were blushing. This isn't a porn book by any means, then again no porn book is even in this ones league!!! For various reasons, I don't own an edition of this book now, but, one reason I don't is that if I did, I know it would only be a short time before someone would want to borrow it, and I'd never see it again. If you enjoy reading about women's real sexual fantasies and experiences, you will want this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Don't bother
"My Secret Garden" was far better. Some of the stories read far more like male fantasies of what "dirty girl" fantasies might be. Somehow, this book just left me cold & bored. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars The Berman's Book and Height of Arrogance and Ignorance
I was very unhapy with this book. I bought it under the guisethinking there would be new information on treating female sexual arousal disorder, a condition that has plagued my marriage over the last 8 years as my wife has had clitoral arousal and vaginal lubrication problems. There is nothing new in this book - except maybe a direct/indirect sales pitch for their clinic, and my wife and I are are contemplating a divorce due to her/our problem. The Berman's are NOT the experts they think they are - unless it's in the areas of hype and arrogance. Save your money and use the internet for information on Female Sexual Arousal Disorder, this book was a complete waste of money.

5-0 out of 5 stars Berman's are the Best
As women, we're getting bombared with self help sex books for women. This is the best one out there by far. I've read them all. Don't waste your time reading anything else.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank God for These Two Women
If it weren't for Jennifer and Laura Berman I'd be divorced and definatley would be suicidal. This book and these two women have helped me to regain my sex life and save my marriage and my life. I watch their show every night on Discovery Health and have also been a patient of theirs. Any woman who is experiencing changes in her sexuality should buy this book. It's also a great reference to know what to expect when we get old, after surgery, as a result of medications etc. God bless them!! ... Read more
