5-0 out of 5 stars Weimar Berlin Is *ALIVE* and Electric!
This *is* the most comprehensive book about Weimar Berlin on the market. Full of never before seen pictures, illustrations, and information, this book is what any Deco era enthusiast needs. Mel Gordon's text is anything but dry, stuffy, or overly scholarly as these books can tend to be. No, instead, his enthusiasm and interests spill onto each page, electrify in a sence with his tell-tale approach and overwhelming details about Pre-War Weimar Berlin's enigmatic history. If Neo-Weimar studies are your cup of tea, then this book is the "on the rocks", "straight up", cold hard shot of gin! I recomend the 5th Edition (2006 Version) hardback that includes the original 2 sections that are omitted in the first few before it. The replaced sections are wonderful and if you've seen the book before, you will be quick to notice that Gordon has added *more* pictures and has corrected the color on the illustrations and paintings. In short, Mr. Gordon's work is quite simply the *ONLY* work out there worth reading about this subject. A UC Berkeley professor, accomplished writer of several books, and former New York Actor's Studio alumni how can one argue that his writings and lectures are not the most dead on and most effective out there? See him lecture, read his work, and keep tabs on this history agent provocateur; he is the future of our unique artistic and often risqué past. - Amanda Campa (of The Art Deco Society Of California)

5-0 out of 5 stars Picture book for very decadent children
In glorious black-and-white pictures and color plates, Mel Gordon illustrates the splendour that was Weimar Berlin. This book is necessary for any uppity later generations who thought they came up with nightlife, sex and provocation.

4-0 out of 5 stars Entertaining brain candy but, should I take this seriously?
"Voluptuous Panic" is colorful, interesting, and amusing. Its a fast and enjoyable read.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great learning tool
This book is an excellent tool for those who never had the chance to learn directly from the best source --women- about their needs and feelings. It was written in the nineties but it can be easily adapted to any time, if the reader is smart enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good for the absolute beginner
Michael Morgenstern has written a valuable book here for males whose experiences of sex have not hitherto involved women but now want them to.My only quibble is that this might be a niche market.

3-0 out of 5 stars Decent General Dated Material
Although much of the material in this book hasn't changed since the book was written, many of it has.The reader must skillfully distinguish what was good advice for the '80s and what will not work today. The general overview on sexual techniques is well-written and applicable but does not go into as much detail to actually succeed in the tasks. This is another one of those books that says "all you have to do is this" without really telling you how to do it but is a good start at knowing what other topics you may need to find other books in specific subject areas about. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars mars and venus takes a spiritual step
I've read Deida's "The way of the Superior Man" as well as "Dear Lover" and am a bit biased at this point as I think his work is helpful within a larger understanding of how men and women typically behave (read Men are from Mars Women are from Venus first), but can come across as extreme at times (more in "dear lover" than this book or "superior man") Overall, Deida's work has been *very helpful* for me. I've explored Deida's ideas and advice with my Man over tha past severl months, and find it is usually helpful, but I think much of it would have been hard for me to swallow if I hadn't read other books on male/female behaviour first. Thanks to David Deida for shedding light on the *whole* male (mind, body, heart, spirit, evolution)!

3-0 out of 5 stars guy thing
This book was helpful for understanding guy logic. I learned alot and found it informative. However, the book also tends to be repetitive and could have been edited more stringently.

5-0 out of 5 stars Men 101 - Dive into the Flames
While most of David's books present his deep understanding of the female in all her radiant beauty, he also sees the masculine with equal clarity. In some of David's books there seems to be an overactive need to write with a sense of poetic distraction. Fortunately his writing style is perfect in It's a Guy Thing. He has also found a perfect balance between sensitivity and the harshness of the male/female reality. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous (and anxiety producing) topics for study groups!
The variety of sensitive issues that psychotherapists must deal with are addressed in this stimulating book.In a respectful context, the authors challenge us to address a variety of topics that are almost never discussed in training, supervision, or consultation study groups among psychotherapists. This reading provides a wealth of topics and guidelines for thinking through issues such as, what to do during a psychotherapy session when we feel distracted, annoyed, drowsy or sexually aroused? What to do when personal values differ significantly from those of our clients/patients? Many more interesting taboo topics are addressed!I am recommending that my feminist therapy study group read this book for discussion!

5-0 out of 5 stars Thank you, Dr. Pope, for courageously writing about taboos in therapy!
In graduate training, we are trained to follow ethical principles, but discussions are limited. Students and professors seem afraid to openly discuss the taboo topics, like therapist feelings of fear, anger, hatred, and sexual attraction. This book provides the context for open, respectful, and insightful discussions in graduate-level ethics courses. Thank you, Dr. Pope!

5-0 out of 5 stars For Practitioners, Students, and Curious Consumers
This is the MOST PRACTICAL book on boundaries and ethics I have read in any language. It is an ideal text for professional training programs in psychology or other mental health fields. But it is also something one could use to guide practicing clinicians and/or plan inservice training.Last but not least, for the consumer who is wondering what "the rules are," this is far easier to understand than an ethics code.Nothing available in the professional literature can match this contribution by three widely acknowledged leaders in the field who have provided a virtual cornucopia of useful guidance. They cover many vital things including some rarely discussed. It's worth many times its price. This is the first book I think which could actually be used as a text in a professional training program which is seeking to truly cover the realities of the practice that their students face in the future. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Letting Go Is Healthy
Your book is quite misleading.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Little Too Optimistic
I just got out of a relationship of 5 months. My partner told me he was falling in love with me, that he thought I could be "the one", and various other things we all love to hear, such as the whole let's buy the house with the white picket fence and the dog thing and live happily ever after. Naive little me has been wanting to hear this for years, being that I had been in and out of several unhealthy relationships throughout the course of my life and this was all I had ever wanted. Well needless to say he ended up giving me the whole "We're just two different people" excuse and dumped me out of the blue recently. I was distraut. I was in shock, after all he had built up in my head, he was turning around and leaving me with no clear cut examples as to why he had made that decision. Well I was confused and really wanted to figure things out so that I could hopefully get him back. So I was at my local bookstore and I saw this title and decided to pick it up. What I didn't like about the book is that it seemed almost too optomistic. What I mean by that is the authors never touched on whether the relationship is worth salvaging or how to tell if you're just wasting your time and making a fool of yourself by chasing after someone who just might not want to be with you no matter how much you work on yourself or decide to compromise. I felt like it builds your hopes up into thinking that if you follow the strategies, you WILL get you're partner back someday. Well needless to say I'm trying the strategies and my phone ain't ringin'! So I guess I need to put this book down and find one on how to heal a broken heart. ;-(

5-0 out of 5 stars Great advice if separated and desiring reconciliation...
Speaking from past personal experience, this was an excellent self-help book for me when I was newly separated. It gives basic but excellent advice on how to deal with your estranged partner, pamper and take care of yourself, etc.The main lesson here is to remain detached but cordial to your ex while working to improve yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars In the Mood Again -- Just as the title says
I cannot believe I found a book that treats sexual desire with respect and humor. Most books on this topic jump right into techniques, but this book helps me and my husband find the keys to communicating more effectively. My husband has just as much fun covering the topics as I do, and it is the first book we've read together in I don't know how long. Before reading this book we could not talk about the things that really bothered us and interfered with all the passion we used to share. Now it's a totally different story. ... Read more

This book replied to many questions that I have wondered for long.
5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
Givens has written on this subject for years, and he does a good job of integrating his insights into a fairly practical approach to meeting and courting potential mates. Other authors dig into various parts of this subject matter more deeply, but givens gives a nice overview and some insights that are his alone. Nice introduction to the secret language of courtship.

5-0 out of 5 stars Really great!
Wow, what a fascinating book! When it comes to courtship among humans, the beginnings are all based on non-verbal cues - including posture, gestures and facial expressions. Everyone knows that first impressions are the most important, you really don't realize the impressions you are giving until you read this book!

4-0 out of 5 stars The Most Classical theory of Sex
It's not first book on sex in the world you know. But Considered the esseys in this book published in 1920s, it's so shocked and execellent.Freud extend his own typical attitude on sex. At first, he seems to believe that the original reason of all mental diseaseis on Libido or sexualdrive. it's same with his other articles like [The interpretation of Dream]and so on. The content of this book is composed of so many esseysdifferent from the "real" title of Book [three essays...].Hestudied from fetishism to sex life of children variously. And continuedto...anal eroticism, sexual desire of women and children...Even Most ofpeople recently think children and women(especially young girl) have apassive sexual drive or no desire. But Freud thought the start of Sexuldesire from infant period. So called Oedipus Complex! you know. Babies'Oedipus Complex formed by jealousy on their fathers. Babies want to killtheir father then have [or have intercourse?] their moms according to theory of Freud. And this failed desire make growing persons sick(of course mental disease). These disease or symptoms divided variously e.g Fetishism, Paranoia,Hysteria... In conclusion, i hope you should choose this one if you wannaget deeper knowledge about origin of YOUR Sexual desire!Humm... mail tome if there comments. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting and valuable
I bought this book as an E-Book.I found it to be interesting, entertaining and valuable.Yes, the book is written in a fairy tale format, but that is part of its charm.Included in the book are "secrets" to which a few reviews have responded something to the effect that "everybody knows that."But the truth is that not everybody knows that.Kara explains in very simple terms what a man wants and needs in his relationship with a woman.Included at the end of the book are twelve secrets for men to help them relate to the woman in his life.Kara wrote me a note telling me that in her seminars she can tell the women that will walk out or give extremely negative reviews. We know them too, they're the man haters that write such columns as appear in the New York Times running down anything male.

3-0 out of 5 stars You already know this stuff
The "secrets" listed in the book aren't really secrets, but there is some good advice about being the kind of empowered, feminine woman that's happy with herself that attracts men that might be of help to some women who tend to forget their femininity or get stuck in a low self esteem rut...

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I've read on the subject!
This is an excellent book, though it's delivery does tend to be a bit cheesy. It took awhile to get through the "this book will teach you...", "after reading this...." "what you'll learn in this book..." etc but its well worth the wait when you get to the actual material. I've read dozens of books on men, women, relationships, marriage, etc and I highly recommend this one. Kara Oh is a very knowledgable writer and this book is easy to read and gets to the point that men are people too and deserve just as much love and respect as we (women) 'require' they give to us. This is one of my new favorite books along with two others that I highly recommend: "The 5 love languages" and the Carlson's "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff in Love". They all teach you how to recognize your own contributions to your relationships and how your attitude and actions can greatly improve your situation and make everyone feel loved, as well as how to be happier in general. The key thing people tend to forget is that it's no one else's responsibility to make you happy and it's wrong to expect that your happiness is in the hands of your partner or anyone else other than yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars The highs are very high indeed
Like any anthology, it's uneven. You'll love some of the stories, merely like some, and maybe even be indifferent to or hate a few. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll kiss 16 bucks or so goodbye. You'll be entertained, aroused, surprised, and squicked. The batting average is good, you get a LOT of reading for your money, and it covers ground that hasn't been visited by other anthologies of sex writing.

4-0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun!
Quick, sharp, has a dark humor-esque feel to it. You will learn something but it doesn't feel like learning here. Enjoyable

5-0 out of 5 stars Great, hilarious, and distrurbing all at the same time
This book is amazing. It's a series of shorter stories/articles so you can always tell when something you aren't interested in will stop (instead of having to skim on and trying to find the end of the section).A lot of incredible information, some sweet stories, some funny, some that made me shocked, a great book! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Humans as just another animal
Among animals, humans seem unusually obsessed with sex and thus a bit separated from the rest of the animal biology, which seems to feature a preponderance of 10-second sex acts. Robin Baker uses a lifetime of university study to try to explain human behavior objectively through case studies and discussions at at rate of one per chapter. It is a mixture of illumination, rationalization and sadly some repetition as the explanations seem to cycle through in the ~33 chapters. Most of the time, he hits his points, but sometimes he seems to miss obvious ones; for instance in the "rough sex" chapter, the woman's reproductive advantage in marrying a mate is discussed but the male perspective in such mate exploration is not. Mate selection by physical endowment is essentially entirely neglected, yet in human societies it is the norm that most people have multiple partners over a lifetime. In fact, in this book sperm wars really alludes to instances in which multiple matings occur in a short enough time span that sperm of different mates are selected in the woman's reproductive tract--a topic of a number of chapters. Practically every sexual combination is presented and explained, even when it is a bit stretched, as for instance the explanation as to why homo- or bisexuality, lesbian or gay behavior may contribute to reproductive success. In his role, the author is largely amoral--an observing biologist trying to explain a role for behavior in reproductive success rather than judging its societal context--though sometimes outcome of the occasional case study seem to bear moral shadings. For those who want to learn about the biology underlying human sexual behavior, this book has some interesting ideas. As a biologist, I found the absence of direct citation of experimental evidence was distracting, as I would prefer seeing whether conjectures withstand scientific analysis, but that is not what this book is about. The current book looks and feels a lot like a second edition of his best-selling book "Sperm Wars" of a decade before, but I do not know that to be the case; I am looking forward to seeing what readers of both volumes say on that point.

3-0 out of 5 stars I Have My Doubts
An interesting book, but I have my doubts about the basic premise. If women are always shopping around for men with the very best genes, then why is the world filled with ugly, stupid people?(Let's be honest. It is.)And why is it that something like 13 million Asian men are the descendents of a murderous psychopath like Attila the Hun?According to studies, that many men bear the same Y-chromosome, probably a result of Attila's marauding across the countryside centuries ago.Did the women who had the misfortune to encounter Attila say, "Wow!What great genes!Go ahead and kill my husband/father/brother/son.It's worth it to get those superior genes."I doubt it.My other problem with the book centers around the author's idea that a successful human is one who reproduces abundantly, whose genes are present in the generations to come. We, however, are not worms, or monkeys, or race horses.Perhaps the most successful humans are those whose ideas (memes not genes) are present in future generations - such as Einstein, Newton, Edison, Darwin, Buddha.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening revelations
I like to pride myself of having a good understanding of male-female sexual behavior and of sexual biology, but this book blew my mind!I had no idea sperm behaved in this way and the degree to which our urges are control by our biology.I usually find science-based books detailing studies and statistics to be a big bore. But the combination of fictional dramatization of scenes of people in specific sexual situations followed by the real-world scientific explanations behind such behaviors, made the book irresistable.I couldn't put it down!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Baer is good. Really good!
This book is essentially for learning about unconditional love, and why no one should settle for less. I really enjoyed it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't control your anger - lose it!
In a very understandable format, Greg Baer presents a premise which we've probably always known - we can't change others, only ourselves. All the trying in the world won't make it happen; real change can only be achieved through acquiring a new and truer perspective. This shift of seeing people through another lens is so simple and the effect is so far reaching it will touch every aspect of your life. This can be achieved within minutes of beginning to read Dr. Baer's books. If you're ready to take your life and relationships to another level, this is the book for you. If you put these principles into practice you won't need to grit your teeth to control your anger because you won't ever experience anger in the same way again, unless you choose to.

3-0 out of 5 stars Truth Made Simple
I liked Baer's thoughts. The book itself was a bit hard to get through--the language is very simple, perhaps a 4th grade level. I am also reading Jean Houston's books, where the language is graceful and elegant, complex and musical. In comparison, Baer's book became boring and repetitious. His words are the SIMPLE truth. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This is a must have for anyone in an extramarital affair
I have been involved with a married man for almost 7 years and had two children with him. This journal was amazing for me. I thought I was the only woman who had been through an affair and felt the way I felt. I was so wrong! I highly recomend this journal but only if you are ready for soul searching.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Guide
Unlike the last reviewer, I found this to be a helpful guide.I read Ms. Gough's book as well and I think one thing Ms. Gough seems to pride herself on is that she is not here to tell us what to do, but instead to give us information to help us make our own decisions.I didn't expect the journal to tell me whether or not it was right or wrong for me to be with my married lover.1-0 out of 5 stars disappointing
I expected more information than this book gave.I believe journaling is good to do, but without a therapist to keep you honest, it's very easy to write denials, fantasies and justifications. This book does not help theother woman whose relationship IS moving forward toward breakup of hismarriage and probable union afterward.I would have liked more informationon how to tell the difference between if it's real or a big mistake.Thereis just not enough information and mostly blank pages.Save your money andget a blank book from the dollar store... ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Deep insights, muddy presentation
The first 300 pages of this book represent Reich's major contribution to Freudian psychotherapy. Reich argues for a new practice of "Character Analysis" that takes the whole personality under examination, superceding the old therapy that focused narrowly on alleviating painful 'symptoms'.
5-0 out of 5 stars A superb book for anyone interested in Reich
Wilhelm Reich was many things in his lifetime- a student of Freud, a political activist, a research scientist, and an inventor. His work was decades ahead of its time and is finally being rediscovered and reevaluated by the public. If, like me, you are interested in Reich and his work, you might want to check out a novel called We All Fall Down, by Brian Caldwell.it draws heavily on Reich's theories, particularly Listen Little Man and The Mass Psychology Of Facism. It's a great introduction to Reich's work and the entire novel draws heavily on his theory. It's very interesting watching an author explore his theories in a fictional setting.Well worth reading.

2-0 out of 5 stars occasional sparks of brilliance....
....mixed in with a reductionistic theory whose centerpiece implies that the cure for neurosis is having sex more often. At times I wished the author had taken his own advice in lieu of writing such a long anddrawn-out book...or that I had taken his advice instead of reading it all. Scattered useful clinical concepts. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Truly ONLY For Beginners
I was extremely disappointed when I purchased this title. While the book is indeed full of wonderful full-color photographs, the actual information in the book is useful only those who really need an introduction to gay life.Otherwise, the sex portion of this book, especially, has absolutely nothing in it that two teen boys with a tiny spark of imagination couldn't come up with.I would not recommend this book to anyone who has ever had sexbefore, since you've probably done everything that Ford discusses.

5-0 out of 5 stars Informative, light and recommended!
This is one of the 2 books which are very good compared to the rest. I like Ford's light, informative and slightly humoristic style of writing. The photos in the book are good quality although an experienced gay may not become very excited. The author himself does not find it necessary to provide great details. However, there is a broad spectrum of information which can be very useful for beginners and gays with limited experience. Overall it is worth being recommended. Additional book which I found very valuable is "Scientifically guaranteed male multiple orgasms and ultimate sex". I am sure that you will like both of them.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for introduction!
This book is great!Especially if you're just coming out.It gives you a great introduction to the gay culture, as well as information that would otherwise be akward to talk about.Sure it is the parents job to do that, but sometimes the parents don't even know what to say, especially if you're parents are religious, and do not agree with the gay lifestyle! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars sex by the book
Brief summaries of many forms of sexual deviance, including history, epidemiology, theory, diagnosis, assessment, and treatment of each.Excellent and extensive references follow each chapter.Fascinating and accesable to the general reader as well as professionals interested in reviewing alternative sexual practices.

4-0 out of 5 stars Scholarly, thorough, but easy to read, by fermed
It is difficult to find books about human sexuality which are both solidly scientific and easy to read. This one is both. Its contents follow a consistent pattern for each diagnostic entity and these stick as closely as possible to DSM-IV (the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, American Psychiatric Association). Thus, each entity is introduced by descriptive considerations (diagnostic criteria, age of onset, etc.), epidemological factors (prevalence, incidence, risk), associated features, forensic issues, review of theories of etiology, and assessment of future directions.
