5-0 out of 5 stars A Gem! Insider's guide to software results& what to avoid.
Almost everything you need to know about how to input and read software results from someone who has actually analyzed real ( not simplified class room problems.) Very comprehensive coverage of large field. Most important,Stevens gives an insider's guide on what to avoid, what to disbelieve, andwhat is valid in this thicket of overlapping techniques. Great intro andguide to use of Statistical Power analysis, which is the linch-pin toplanning experiments and obtaining valid results.Marvelous, and usabletables not readily obtainable elswhere that actually solve complicatedproblems (e.g. intra-class correlation the implicit reduction ofsignificance.) The tablesallow you to get quick results so you canshort-circuit your cryptic and overweight software for basic problems. Myedition, especially the tables are nearly worn-out from overuse. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A highly recommended supplementary reference
The Texture Treatment: On The Matter Of Psychoanalytic Technique is a quite straightforward instructional written especially to help students and practitioners better understand the theory, principles, and execution of psychoanalytic technique. Knowledgeably written by Herbert J. Schlesinger (a clinical professor of psychology in psychiatry), The Texture Treatment covers transference and countertransference, theraputic activities, the role of regression in psychoanalysis, the optimum to strive for in a theraputic relationship, the cons and pros of questioning, and much more. A highly recommended supplementary reference and a welcome addition to psychology reading lists that meticulously and clearly walks the reader through the dimensions and unique applications of various techniques and approaches. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Maybe for the APA style...
I was deeply disappointed with the book. The tables look as done with a typewriter, good for those missing that 70's thesis. Apparently nobody told the authors that p-values are no longer to be reported as p<0.05, but with their full value. And finally, there is no "clever" solution to more complex tables, but just tons of tables with pretty standard results. What is reported in the tables is not widely applicable too. In my area - epidemiology - we do not report standard errors, we report confidence intervals. We also do not report mean squares, f-values, or t-values, or chi-squared-values and so on - we report only the full p-values. If you're not into APA, look elsewhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars No more puzzling over tables!
This is an invaluable resource for anyone who needs to present their research results in APA style. This is not a statistics text but rather a manual for generating tables. Each chapter focuses on a different statistic and includes a "play it safe" comprehensive table as well as several variations.Well-organized, practical, and concise.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must for Students and Professionals Using APA Style
This book has been needed for twenty years. Students and professional researchers who write dissertations and manuscripts using APA style have desperately needed this very helpful resource. The book illustrates standard presentation tables for more than twenty types of standardstatistical tests. The concept of "Play It Safe" tables will saveresearchers hundreds of hours of time. The table illustrations are clearand precise depending on the focus of the data to be presented. The fewwords that are written prior to presenting a table are helpful inclarifying the data contained in the tables. One small problem is noted. It would have been helpful to include how APA style recommends reportingstatistical data in paragraph form in this book also. Despite this omission, I still give this book 5 stars. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Book is Pointless? Maybe......
If you've been freshly rejected and looking for some guidance on how to heal your broken heart, some consolation, or some smallhint of hope that there is stilla chance to win back your lost love then this book is not for you.
2-0 out of 5 stars The one side of unrequitted love
This book is pointless. It's a simple result of surveys with author's suggestions. Put yourself into position of a would-be lover and a rejector, and you've read the whole book. If you're heartbroken and looking for understanding, this book will disappoint you. It mainly focuses on the other side of unrequited love, the rejector, and seems to defend (using the data) that position as more hurt by the experience. At one point it even compared the would-be lover to a criminal! That definitely does not reflect the whole society. The only thing this book helped me realize is that romantic love is very much a selfish thing.

5-0 out of 5 stars You haven't thought about it quite like this
Baumeister has a somewhat unusual approach among social psychologists -- rather than solely relying on surveys that supply easy numbers immediately, he gathers rambling discussions, written or spoken, and analyzes their content. He also draws on literary and historical data along with currentempirical work (his own and others'). 2-0 out of 5 stars junk theories?
Save your money! I can sum up the book in a few sentences. According to the authors, we are genetically inclined to spend money and avoid saving because our ancenstors didn't have refrigerators. We use drugs because they make us feel good. We take risks because it gives us a little high. We do drugs because they make us feel good.
1-0 out of 5 stars Completely Stupid!
This is easily one of the most idiotic books I have ever read. I read plenty of business, economics, and evolutionary science books and there are at least 50 better books on this topic. I am just astounded that someone published it. It completely trivializes the topic. It's painfully chatty. And it's a waste of time. The presentations involving attributing behaviours to genes completely misconstrue what genes actually do. This book, and I use that term extremely "litely," is also unbelievable patronizing. The authors assume their readers are as bone-headed as they are. A mildly intelligent ten-year old child could read this book in about 30 minutes and instantly see how bad it is--can you say "lite!"
5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Makes Sense
Terry Burnham, a visiting scholar at the Harvard Business School, holds a PhD in Business Economics from Harvard, while Jay Whelan is a Biology professor at UCLA. Together they have collaborated to produce an excellent book that explains why we humans so often act in what appear to be irrational ways.

5-0 out of 5 stars how do you achieve the balance?
This book brings up the interesting issue of emotions and the workplace, a tricky balancing act. However, the unique approach to this issue presented here makes this a standout from "touchy-feely" HR/OB books.Scientific and sociological analysis plays a large role here, so this is recommended for those who prefer objectivity over subjectivity. ...
