1-0 out of 5 stars Be Warned - Not the Actual Book
I ordered this thinking that I was getting a paperback version of the book "research design in counseling" for $8.95. I should haveknown better! Instead, I got some sort of outline of the book that you are supposed to take to lecture and use as guided notes.

3-0 out of 5 stars Psychology 8th edition
Lefton and Brannon take on an ambitious project in attempting to detail the entire field of Psychology in one book. Overall the presentation is good, but the book falls short of being a reliably definitive guide to the field in that it contains some concepts and definitions that are simply incorrect. If you have an understanding of how Latin derivatives are the basis of the English language, you will be unnerved by the casual way that words like "advocate" and "prototype" (and many others) are defined and applied. Smith and Davis present a concise discussion of the major facets to research in the field of Psychology. It guides the readers through all stages of the experimental design, from conception through implementation and interpretation. The authors succeed where others fail in conveying their ideas in an untechnical yet methodologically sound manner. It is a more than adequate preparation for undergraduate psychology students. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Classic Work On Ethics for Psychologists
This is the classic work on how to practice ethically for psychologists who engage in clinical work, teaching, research, administration, or any other domain of professional activity. Not only does if offer a thorough review of the literature on ethical behavior, it provides a truly detailed analysis of how the ethics code applies to a vast range of contexts, client types, and vexing clinical dilemmas. What's more, the book is filled with interesting, and sometimes entertaining case vignettes--many of them based on actual ethical complaints. No other book on the market for psychologists offers this combination of clarity and thoroughness. It is a must for the library of any serious psychology graduate student or psychologist. When I teach Ethics at the graduate level, it is the only text I require.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practicing Therapists "Must Read" Each Year
Ethics in Psychology is a graduate level textbook on the subject of ethical dilemmas in counseling. The authors definitely meet their goal in exploring the APA's Ethical guidelines and applying them pratically to the practicing therapist and academic.Their use of humorous "psuedo-psychologists" illustrate well the problem of many counselors who get themselves into ethical dilemmas each year innocently.I believe every therapist and academic should read this book at least once a year in order to minimize the ethical issues that are a part of everyday practice.Non-APA practitioners may find the book slanted toward doctoral-level therapists being the minimum for competence but there is great wisdom in this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Three Voices captures the Essense of Sandplay
An essential intention of sandplay therapy is to provide a free and protected space in which the client can feel invited to expand his/her consciousness, open to the unconscious and engage with disturbing and difficult elements in the psyche. As Kay Bradway says in the introduction to Sandplay in Three Voices,"Writing this book has been an experience in self-exposure, in letting down our hair. We have let ourselves ask na?ve questions akin to the child's universal question :`Is there a Santa Claus?'"I as the reader, felt invited t that the authors are creating a free and protected space for the readerto engage in a relational and interactive process. The essential interactive and relational nature of Sandplay and depth therapies is demonstrated in an embodied/experiential manner in the format and content of Sandplay in Three Voices. The authors KayBradway, Lucia Chambers and Maria Chiaia, three-seasoned sandplay therapists from three generations, have created a deep and engaging teaching journey into the world of sandplay therapy and its relationship to other depth therapies. One quickly learns that sandplay is not a technique but a way of thinking about the entire environment of therapy. As stated by Maria Chiaia,"The whole experience of doing sand is a numinous experience, and this seems to have something to do with connecting with the silence, with the therapist and with the sand images"(p.179).
5-0 out of 5 stars A Conversation about Sandplay with depth and wisdom
The three authors offer refined reflections in each of the chapters allowing the reader to reflect not only on sandplay, but also on the depth of the human psyche. It is easy to feel the deep respect each of these very seasoned therapists has for the journey of healing and individuation as witnessed in sandplay. This book is a welcome addition in the field of Jungian Psychology and Sandplay.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Wise and Wonderful Book
This is a wise and wonderful book by three highly experienced sandplay therapists. As readers, we are invited into a mature, clear and deep process of inquiry into the direct experience of sandplay itself.Eight of the most important topics in sandplay therapy:Therapist; Silence; Child; Mother; Self; Shadow; Chaos and Numinous, are explored as the ground of our most basic therapeutic experiences.Within these chapters, the authors' focus on the transformative power of relationship, in it's fullest sense. What is especially intriguing to us about the form of the "trialogue" in Sandplay in Three Voices is the richness and depth of understanding that is evoked in these conversations of three. This is a new and exciting book in the field of sandplay therapy. We highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Statistics Resource
This book and its companion volume are invaluable resources if you need to understand or work with multivariate statistics. It is easy to read and I would recommend it over any of the required texts that I have had for statistics courses.

5-0 out of 5 stars I read more - and I understood more!
Like its predecessor, "Reading and Understanding MORE Multivariate Statistics" achieves exactly what its title implies. Geared toward non-statisticians in behavioral and social science fields, this book provides clear and reasonably simple explanations of common multivariate analyses. This book includes special attention to scales of measurement, reliability and generalizability theory, item response theory, and assessing the validity of measurement. In addition, it covers cluster analysis, Q-technique factor analysis, structural equation modeling, canonical correlation analysis, repeated measures analysis, and survival analysis. The authors present the conceptual underpinnings, underlying assumptions, and basic procedures for each analysis with a minimum of equations and many concrete examples. The book not teach you how to perform the analyses but does provide references for those who wish to get more detailed information. As a research scientist who doesn't always remember everything I learned in graduate statistics class, I find this book an invaluable aid keeping up with the current literature in my field and in making the most of statistical consultations. This book is ideal for anyone whose job requires them to be a "consumer" of research; for researchers who wish to further their understanding of data analysis; and as a companion text for graduate statistics classes. ...
