4-0 out of 5 stars It serves the purpose.
In the past I have been quite critical regarding the quality of this book. I had found it tedious, overly descriptive, and lacking of significant examples.5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Research Methods and Statistics
I never thought that I would understand statistics, but this book proved me wrong! The explanations were very detailed and tailored for people who have not previously taken a statistics course. I highly recommend this book, especially for those in the psychology field...

1-0 out of 5 stars overkill
The material is good, but the author get to involved to soon in the text.It is a must to sort through what information you need and the excess! I do not think that this is a goodtext for a student new to statistics.Examples are poor and brief. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Salvatore Maddi's Classic Text - Personality theories
Throughout my years of teaching personality theories both to undergraduates and graduates, I have not found a better text. This text provides teacher and student with much more than a brief smattering of theorist history and basic concepts. It is a critical analysis of the major theorists' concepts, and it helps readers to think deeply about these theories and to make higher level evaluations of the theorists' reasoning. Its sixth edition now includes more current personality theories, and consistent with past editions, this text also provides readers with relevant research findings. I recommend it highly. My students throughout the years have really loved this book and appreciated the author's approach and level of understanding. Dr. Khoshaba

5-0 out of 5 stars So User Friendly!!!
Students! Save your sanity! This user friendly guide takes all the stress out of using the APA Style Guide! Why waste your time hassling through the Publication Manual when you can use this easy-to-read version instead? I find this manual completely understandable and thorough. It tells you everything you need to know about APA style so you can format your paper quickly and easily. Your time can be spent on the content of your paper instead!
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
The person writing the review below obviously did not look on the copyright page of "The World's Easiest Guide to Using the APA" to see that this book is geared for undergraduates only, especially lower-division and English-as-a-Second-Language students. He is a professional, editing at the graduate level. He needs to be using the regular Publication Manual. He is being unfair in his assessment of The World's Easiest Guide to Using the APA, since the book is not meantfor grad-level students. Many colleges and universities around the country have adopted this book because of its user-friendly layout. It takes the students step-by-step through the creation of a research paper, from the title page to the references. Any lower-division student will be thrilled with its easy-to-understand steps. Full-size, sample papers are included in the appendices.

1-0 out of 5 stars Next to worthless
Do not buy this unless you have the opportunity to see one first, or are willing to return it. THIS GUIDE COVERS FORMATTING ALMOST TO THE EXCLUSION OF EVERYTHING ELSE IMPORTANT IN APA. I bought this for help with an editing job I do part-time for a professional journal. It is so inadequate, it will go straight into the garbage can. There are free online APA style Guides which are by far better.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Best statistics book I've read
What an easy book to read! It explains important statistical concepts clearly enough for anyone to grasp.A must read for any struggling statistic student or even students who want a better understanding of the material.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff
Dr. Urdan was a professor of mine, and he always made Stats very, very easy to understand. Good teacher, good book. Definitely worth buying.

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent aid for the statistically-anxious student
This book is for all students who suffer any sort of statistics-anxiety and yet must take a statistics course in high school or college. Of course, it would also be of value for anyone simply interested in statistics. As college students well know, most statistics texts are typically impossible to make sense of. This book explains quite complex concepts and analyses in ways that professors are often unable to do. The examples are clean and crisp. Difficult material is brought down to earth with prose that is both user-friendly and often humorous. Well worth purchasing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't sell your book
This is a great book. If you are an undergraduate, don't sell your book. YOu may think you've heard about these studies and you wouldn't refer back to the book, but I wish I hadn't sold mine. They are the landmark studies that I keep wishing I could use for a paper, and will probably be on the GRE. Little Albert afraid of every furry thing, Bandura's learning through observation, and even some Freud, though he didn't really do any studies and it ticked off my prof that he was in there. I'm now re-buying the book because there have been too many times I've wished I've had it since the class was over a semester ago.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good condensed version of psychological theories
This book was required reading for a graduate class I am taking. Most of the studies I had already learned in
5-0 out of 5 stars Amazingly fun
It's really quite surprising just how FUN it can be to read about a seemingly boring subject - the history of psychology. He starts with Freud basis and deepens the discussion while talking about phantasies and inner structures as defined by Klein.Another deep discussion of contribution of Winnicot. 4-0 out of 5 stars Took a bit long
Book was in condition described but took awhile to arrive.Within time limits- but on the later side.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Learning Tool
I just finished a Research Methods in Psychology class that used this text.Overall, I thought this book was excellent. All the topics discussed are well organized and explained with many helpful examples. The writing is clear and generally easy to understand.I struggled with a couple chapters but class discussions helped clear up what I didn't understand. Some of the students in my class complained that the reading could be a little dry at times and the chapters a little long.I don't necessarily agree with that.I would describe the chapters as thorough and to me, they were interesting.I think those who complained were just less motivated and wouldn't enjoy the subject matter no matter how it was presented.4-0 out of 5 stars Research Methods
This book was helpful in the class taken at a CT University. It was relatively easy to understand, that is, as easy as statisticsCAN be to understand. Most of the students had taken an introductorystats class a while back, so the examples were helpful.I will say that students get in a rut and do not end up reading as they should. This book was very helpful in understanding the lectures as long as the reading was done! ... ... Read more

Martha Stark does an incredible job summarizing the basic modes of therapeutic theory/technique.this has allowed me to re-frame the way I do therapy, and facilitates my ability to be aware of and shift between different modes of therapeutic technique, even within the same session.

Modes of Theraputic Action continues the train of thought Dr. Stark began in her previous book Working with Resistance. While professional therapists are the target audience for the book I found much here to deepenmy understanding of the theraputic process as a client. The clinicalvingettes Dr. Stark has chosen to share are particularly helpful.Dr.Stark's writing style is clear, concise and deeply thoughtful.A marvelousbook that will give you new insights into the theraputic process. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Demon Haunted World for Psychologists
Sorry guys. Your mileage might vary on this one.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must for psychology student
This book was assigned by my professor in Research Method class and it is the first textbook that I actually enjoy reading!
4-0 out of 5 stars Gen. Psych. textbook = steak, This book = good brown gravy!
Now this is a great book.It essentially addresses the ways psychologists (particularly those involved in research) think about what they do, and furthermore, debunks some of the criticisms and misconceptions from the public about what psychologists do (that's right - most of us no longer are interested in the pathology of potty-training!).Three particularly great parts are the one on falsifiability (crucial when evaluating the claims of self-help gurus, or advocates of unusual theories), the one on converging evidence (i.e. when the results of individual and differing studies point toward the same general conclusions), and the importance of probabalistic thinking (i.e. when thinking about coincidences).
