5-0 out of 5 stars A great look at the scientific evidence
The author does a great job of presenting the scientific evidence of today and past. I was surprised on how unbiased he was in the presentation of his research. If you want to learn more about Marijuana without having people ad there own opinions for or against it, then pick up this book and just get the facts and draw your on conclusion.

5-0 out of 5 stars valuable
Intelligent, insightful and well-presented information.5-0 out of 5 stars This is a great piece of work.
This book is the best research work I've ever read.If you have no opinion on marijuana at all you can still respect the work that has gone into this book.If you do have an opinion on marijuana, for or against it, this book is also for you.It states proven facts, or statements that are backed up with facts, and is completely unbiased. For, against, or no opinion on marijuana, you must read this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Evolution of the Mammalian Brain ca 1990.
Sir John Eccles has written a gem.The book is mostly devoted to the evolution of the Hominid Brain and Skull. There is a good discussion and overview of CNS neurophysiology. This book is the main book to start with on the subject of Brain Evolution. The Cambridge Encyclopedia of Human Evolution goes into more detail on the Primate Brain. The Encyclopedia should be used as a reference book alongside Eccles book. Eccles understanding of the nervous system was better than most other scientists at the time this book was written.Falk wrote a book worth looking at.Primate Brain Evolution is out of print, but can also complement the approaches in the other texts. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Needs serious editing
This book is informative and fairly easy to read, but it's full of grammar and syntax mistakes.

2-0 out of 5 stars Get a new editor!
Although the book does contain good information, it is presented in an extremely repetitive manner. Things are restated two or even three times over. Also, this is the most poorly edited book I have ever read. I find it rather pathetic that a college textbook should have such an abundance of spelling and grammar errors that should have been caught before putting this book into production. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Nature is Important and Can be Measured
In the never ending arguments about nature (heridity) and nurture (surrounding) having more effect on a person the position of the bulk of social scientists is that nurture has more importance. In fact they often hold that heritability is so small that it can be ignored.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for touch therapists
This is not exactly a groundbreaking piece of work, yet it succeeds by convicting us of something that we have so taken for granted and lightly - the importance of touch for survival and well-being. The subject matter in this book is familiar to many of us, and therefore very accessible. It seems intuitive, something we have known all along, except we don't think much about.

5-0 out of 5 stars WAKE UP
This book should be a "must" read for all health care professionals who deal with adolescents. It should be a "must" read for all school adminitrators, teachers, and counsellors. There is a physiologic reason teenagers have trouble falling asleep at night and a physiologic reason they have trouble waking up in the morning. One only wonders how much poor performanc in school, teenage depression, and teenage accidents are due to poor societal understanding of sleep physiology in adolescents. This book addresses these issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Comprehensive and easy to read and full of useful information. Ample reference material and evidence to back up the findings and theories. I especiall liked the explanations of psychpathologies from evolutionary perspectives and the effects of different brain damages on personality and behavior.

4-0 out of 5 stars Textbook, but Worth a Look
This book, for all its faults, is surprisingly informative. Yes, the authors are poor writers (poor-to-bad punctuation, spelling, and run-ons abound); there's no question that the authors did not consult a style manual before writing some tortuous sentential structures. Even some key scientist's names are misspelled. But despite these obvious flaws, the authors explain evolutionary biology quite thoroughly, even if, or rather because, it is meant as a textbook.

5-0 out of 5 stars Strong Imagination, Madness, and Creativity.
The lunatic, the lover, and the poet
5-0 out of 5 stars Bring your brain
I'm a writer with manic depression who is bothered by the way mental illness is romanticized within the writing community. So many people I know believe that writers with manic depression should not take medication because it will "kill" their creativity. I find this attitude really offensive -- not just because it is false -- but also because it puts manic-depressive writers and artists in danger. I have found very fewresources that adequately address this issue, very few books that explain why allowing full blown psychosis to developed is a bad idea, not just for the health of the person in question, but for his or her creativity as well. Daniel Nettle really hit this one it on the head as far as I'm concerned.
4-0 out of 5 stars grasping at non-existent justifications...
I respect the author's intentions to provide a form of consolation for troubled individuals like myself. However, the attempt falls short in the too-real context of inevitable aging and death. Assuming that personal efficacy in ordinary matters is self-evidently a cure simply loses sight of the fact that concentrating on mundane matters must be conducted without any form of external justification.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Grows on you
At first, this book seemed to me to be trite, full of little aphorisms and such. By the time I reached the end, I finally understood the underlying message. As with our personal relationships, what counts in our daily living ARE the little things. The author presents this insight with a gentle hand that matches the mood of the message. Thank you, John Izzo, wherever you are.

"John Izzo has written yet another fantastic book that has profound impact on the reader's daily life. Upon finishing the first reading, I turned the book over and began reading it all over again. A few weeks later, I picked it up and read it a third time and I just could not stop talking about it! This truly is a book that will not stay on a bookshelf for long.

Just wanted to thank John for writing inspiring words that convey wonderful foundational thoughts and feelings.I too am a great believer in an abundance mentality and try to live and act in the "now" every day. Read more
