4-0 out of 5 stars A book with information known for thousands of years, but not by everybody.
Action in Perception is a book that points out a way of thinking that was developed not recently, but rather thousands of years ago. While many have tried to describe it by calling it " feeling spiritual energy flow through you," the concept itself of doing actions in order to expand your perceptions is something found in the Ancient customs of Martial Arts.
5-0 out of 5 stars A new movement in perception
"No provides a persuasive account of the "enactive" approach to perception, according to which perception is not simply based on the processing of sensory information, or on the construction of internal representations, but is fundamentally shaped by the motor possibilities of the perceiving body. ... No puts the brain back into the body, and the body back into the world. ... The action, for enactive theorists, is not in the brain; it is the organism as a whole acting in the environment that must be treated as the site of perception. ... After reading
5-0 out of 5 stars A new paradigm
Finally, after all these years, we're starting to unlearn duality. There aren't two planes of reality, the physical and the mental. There are not two regions of the cosmos, the heavenly and the terrestrial. There isn't me over here, and the world over there. There's only the world, which happens to include me: the real world, the only one there is. It's where we live. The 21st century is the perfect date to begin exploring our new (same old, beautiful) world. These are a few of the rapturous thoughts this book evokes in your present reviewer. 'Action in Perception' is really fun, really smart, and really deep. It's about a completely new way to think about what perception is. Noe suggests that we don't perceive IN ORDER to move around in the world; perception just IS moving around in the world. One of his many beautiful examples goes like this (I paraphrase). Here are two trees, one closer to me, one farther. I experience them as more or less the same height. But WHY would I experience it this way, given that the closer tree takes up so much more of my visual field than the far one? Answer: The far tree doesn't look as tall as the near tree IN SPITE OF the fact that it crosses a smaller part of my visual field -- it looks as tall as the near tree BECAUSE it crosses a smaller part of my visual field, and this is just what I would expect, having experienced HOW the "apparent" sizes of things tend to CHANGE as I move through the world. The structure of the world is not stored in a 3D model in my brain -- why would I need such a model, when the world itself is out there for me to look at whenever I want to? -- what I hold onto (or, in some cases, am born with) are what might be called physical heuristics: patterns of how the shapes around me tend to change as I move. I believe this table to be rectangular not DESPITE the fact that its "apparent" shape changes as I walk around it, but BECAUSE its "apparent" shape changes as I walk around it -- in a specific pattern with which I am familiar. That pattern of geometric transformations is how I RECOGNIZE a rectangular surface. I'm probably not conveying these examples very well, but if the ideas I've been babbling about here sound at all intriguing to you, you will enjoy this book tremendously. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars okay, but overpriced
this is a very good book for introducing body/mind health issues. it covers a lot of territory. only thing is, is the references. the references used in this book are mostly from "pop" magazines such as psychology today, time, u.s. world, readers digest (!), etc. i personally do not consider these publications too legit, but that is my opinion. i got this book through the local library, i would recommend you do the same to see if you want to shell out the big bucks. or get it used, there are a lot of copies for sale.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful
This book shows the relationship between the way one thinks and the waythe body feels. It is a very clear and easy to understand book showing theway that certain actions, functions and thoughts can change the way aperson's body feels and the health of the person. I found it veryinteresting and helpful to what I was wondering about. Expensive though. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Human Behavior Exploration
The Neurophysics of Human Behavior is a must read and resource text for anyone in the profession of personal change artistry.Vital work which was done years previous and had stagnated have been given new life by a whole new approach to the working of the human brain. Read it once and you will have to read it again. It is a text book, treated as such, it provides many an hour of thought provoking ideas and new insights.I gave it a 5 star rating, because there was not a ten star rating. It is a wonderful text that I look forward to using throughout my practice and in working with people.A job well done and I look forward to the follow-up text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Destined To Become A Classic
Too many books about human behavior and thought simply aren't worth the time it takes to read them. Most are like celery at dinner, an apetizer with more fiber than taste or nutrition. In contrast, this book is like dining at Maxim's of Paris every Saturday night for a year and only having sumptuous dishes galore. If you are interested to know what memetics, evolution, entropy, chaos theory, biology, neuroscience, psychology, information theory, brain function, thought field theory, state theory, cybernetics, and persuasion have in commmon -- without any psychobabble -- then buy a copy. This book offers the reader a deep, thoughtful, well-documented exploration of numerous subjects as they relate to human behavior. It is a challenging read. You won't be able to read it in one sitting, nor will only one reading be enough to probe the surprising depth of the material. You will however be rewarded with a provocative tour of the fundamenttals of thought and human behavior.I know of no other book that succeeds in tying so many disparate fields of inquiry together. It even provides a way of mapping the nuerocognitive system called NeuroPrint that will help you determine effective interventions with others.Beware: the ramifications of the material are profound and will reverberate through your current beliefs. On a side note, I wish the book were shorter and less expensive. But I am at a loss as to what could be cut that would not damage ther overall presentation.I am grateful the book is so well bound -- my copy is now filled with yellow highlighter and marginal notes, and is and will be referred to regularly. Those issues aside, I strongly recommend that every professor, parent, spouse, therapist, salesman, or individual who interacts with others buy and read a copy as soon as you can. In the future no one will be able to consider themselves knowledgeable in the field of human thought and behavior that has not read and carefully considered the material in this book.It should become a classic.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Neurophysics of Human Behavior.
This is un unavoidable text for every practitioner of energy psychologies, NLP, psychotherapy in general and excellence performance modelers. Its 355 pages are not ligth reading, becuse every paragraph is packed with information, scientific terminology and rigorous logical reasoning. Our team of physicians and RNs have studied (not readed)"Neurophysics" several times, because it speaks our own language. No occult energies or spiritual jargon here, just plain reasoning based in hard facts of natural sciences. Its three sections and nineteen chapters aim at establishing scientific basis to justify the use of a given intervention tool. In my opinion, this is the only way by which established science can start to consider accepting energy psychologies as legitimate intervention tools. Chapter 1 provides a rational discussion of NLP. This discussion continues in other chapters, looking for the scientific basis of modeling, eye movements, metaphors, submodalities and anchoring. This is the most lucid discussion of neurolinguistic interventions that we have found in all NLP bibliography. The rest of Section II establishes the basis and makes a detailed description of the Theory of Pattern-Entropy Interaction. Section II is the most important part of the book, because guides the reader, step by step, in the design and operation of Neuroprint, a very useful clinical tool that graphically models neurocognitive patterns of information and leads the clinician to use the most appropriate tool for the patient. The authors dont limit their writing to theraputic applications but use 5 chapters to describe Human Performance Modeling and Engineering. A glossary of scientific terminology and more than 500 references (textbooks and scientific references)completes the book Furman, a neuroscientist and NLP Practitioner is the author of 18 scientific papers, and Gallo, a Ph.D. psychologist, founder of EDxTM is the author of several seminal books on energy psychology.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars When Your Past Is Hurting Your Present
I have been searching for a Christian author that has written a book on "Forgiveness" that is balanced and non-judgmental...this book is the best I have ever come across. I truly believe the author was moved along in the Holy Spirit as she wrote much or all of this book. It comes to grips with childhood abuse, other abuse, neglect, events others may have caused harm to us and those we have caused to ourselves. The book is very Scriptural sound and can help anyone with the problem of overcoming forgiveness. It teaches "forgiveness" whether it is in the past and is now causing us problems or it is something in our adult years we need to learn how to forgive and move on or it is learning how to forgive of ourselves! If you are truly searching for a Biblical Foundational book on "Forgiveness", this is it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never realized how much you were still hurting...now you can get over it for good.
AMAZING BOOK!!!!! We know that we are suppose to "forgive, forget and move on" but sometimes this is much easier said than done.We don't realize how much hurt we still hold onto and how much it is hurting us in many ways of our lives.Sue helps bring to the forefront what we have tried to unsuccessfully bury and helps us lay it to rest once and for all, deepening our faith and helping us realize that our life can be GREAT no matter what has happened in the past. Until we forgive and forget we cannot move on - Sue walks us through how to apply this to our personal lives. This book is a must read even if you think you have "moved on". Sue's passion and zeal for a better life is contagious.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Releasing the Past -- So Easy When You Know How"!
"W.O.W." -- "Write on Woman"!This certainly is a book in due season.Who doesn't have a past that affects them, in the present, to some degree?Sue Augustine is endearingly transparent, sharing her own past struggles as she evolves into the beautiful, strong & vibrant woman she is today. She gently draws you into own personal realm and envelopes you with caring, sharing and encouragement. It feels like Sue is right there beside you becoming your own personal strategist and helping you to implement the 21 Steps. She guides you through the pages, helping you to face past issues and, where necessary, gives permission to simply "let go". -- a very freeing and uplifting journey. This book is all-encompassing and not easily put down once started.I'll certainly recommend it hightly to others as a "must-read" and look forward to future releases with great anticipation. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great interdiscliplinary intro to human sensory systems
Sensory Processes by David Soderquist (Sage Publications) provides an introductory text that emphasizes all the sensory systems from a neuroscience perspective. The text is designed to meet a new and relatively unique niche in the neurosciences. The first two chapters provide the basic neural and physiological foundations for the remaining chapters. The text then continues by focusing on the neurological processes associated with each sensory modality. Although the emphasis is on the neurological aspects of each sensory system, perception is not disregarded. Perceptual processes are introduced and discussed from a neurological perspective. A unique aspect of the text is the inclusion of anomalies and dysfunctions for each sensory modality. In addition, a Glossary provides definitions for each highlighted term or concept discussed in the chapters. Given this approach, the content of the book is most likely to attract individuals interested in neuroscience, psychology, and biology. Sensory Processes, however, also recommends itself to those in other disciplines (anthropology, pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, pre-veterinarian)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive and skillful examination of the field of Neuroscience
I read the text from cover to cover in the summer of 2005, three decades after my last college Psychology course, which makes me a complete neophyte in the field. Yet, it is clear from reading the book that its contribution to the understanding of the brain and its role in an individual's mental life - both normal and abnormal - is strong. As daunting may be the idea of launching into a technically dense exploration of neuroscience even for psychology or biology majors, it is even more so for lay men and women. When I cracked open the book, I anticipated an enervating tramp through a bog of arcane terms and concepts that would leave me glassy eyed and spent. Instead, researchers Lambert and Kinsley introduced me to the vast panorama of the brain and the very stuff of what makes us human. The authors say as much on page three when they write: "We are defined by our brains more than any other organ in our body."
4-0 out of 5 stars An interesting approach to the study of applied neuroscience
This is a clear and readable text that can not only be used to introduce students to basic topics in neuroscience (neuroanatomy and neurophysiology) at the undergraduate level, but can also be used to effectively relate these topics to the study of neurological and psychiatric conditions at either the undergraduate or graduate level. This is a fairly unique text that integrates a broad mental health perspective when approaching neuroscience--it can be utilized in courses in psychology and biology or nursing. ... Franklin Henry is acknowledged as the father of motor behavior research. His work on reaction time, the motor program, and development of the Specificity Hypothesis have spurred an unparalleled amount of research in the field.Building off the work of Henry, Schmidt, who is a direct student of Henry developed the Schema Theory of Motor Learning.Over the past 30 years the theory has generated much research, being referenced in over 700 journal articles, and achieving the `citation classic' award by the Institute for Scientific Information (Lee, 2003).

5-0 out of 5 stars An eminently readable and balanced approach to the psychology of religion
I began reading this book in the library of the college where I teach psychology, and after finishing Kirpatrick's introduction I knew I had to purchase the book for myself.
5-0 out of 5 stars an intelligent look at religion
Kirkpatrick has given us a scholarly, comprehensive and comprehendable discussion of an extremly important part of human experience. This work is well and carefully documented for the scholar and clearly written for the casual (but curious) reader. It's too bad Dennett didn't read this before he wrote "Breaking the Spell."He could have saved hinself a couple of years and sent us to read "Attachment, Evolution, and the Psychology of Religion."

2-0 out of 5 stars a marginal contribution, at best, to religious studies
My excitement upon purchasing this book did not last long.Kirkpatrick argues that a person's "attachment" style, shaped at an early age by his relationship with his primary caregiver, plays a role in his subsequent relationships with peers, lovers, spouses, and even God.I find the theory and evidence marshalled in support of this argument unpersuasive.
