5-0 out of 5 stars I can not lie, I Loved It!
Weak people look for faults in others and find excuses.Strong men and women look for weaknesses within themselves and find solutions. This book epitomizes that philosophy along with salient points that work.
5-0 out of 5 stars MFT-Intern Review
This book can be quite useful for marriage family therapists in counseling couples at any stage.I only hope that Dr. Robin will one day write a workbook to accompany this great book.

3-0 out of 5 stars CD is self-congratulatory and virtually content-free
While I agree with other reviewers that the text is good and the graphics in the text are outstanding, the CD that accompanies the book is a shocking waste of time.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Masterful Work
Pinel's Biopsychology is a masterful work. I can only imagine the immense amount of time and effort that has gone into it.I don't think you can find another bookin this field that appeals to such a wide range of readers.I have used this book and previous editions of it as the primary text in the graduate Biopsychology courses I have taught over the past 8 years. This book has consistently earned accolades from mystudents for presenting what is an otherwise complicated and highly technical subject, in agraspable and witty manner.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for discerning readers
I have degrees in neurophysiology, molecular biology, and bioorganic chemistry.I really dislike psych texts; in fact, I really dislike psych. What a bunch of fluff BS.This book accomplishes something rare.It effectively frames discussions of psych topics in terms of their hard science antecedents.Pinel makes it seem as though the field of psych actually lives in reality, or at least has a summer home here.Pinel also tells the story, in segments throughout the book, of a traumatic and relevant experience, making the book read more like an engrossing biography than a text.He always relates his personal experinces, but not so much as to distract from the material itself.Extremely well done. One of the only books I had to buy that I actually wanted to keep. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars An incredibly important work.
I first learned of this book while listening to an audiobook by Wayne W. Dyer. While reading it, I realized it was one of the most important books I would ever be exposed to. The author goes into such amazing detail. This is a must-read for anyone wanting to improve not only their own life but humanity as well. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and any other book written by Dr. David R. Hawkins.

4-0 out of 5 stars cells over systems
I'm a biopsychologist.Kalat is a very good writer with a gift for explaining difficult concepts and for keeping technical issues interesting.I chose his Intro Psych book for my classes for just this reason. My response to this book is a little more mixed.Biopsychology ranges broadly from cellular to systems level research. This book does well at the former level. It gets a little more deeply into the biochemistry than I would prefer but does so well and is impressively up to date.It does less well at the systems level literature. For example, it defines two common imaging terms incorrectly: PET and rCBF (mixing them up with SPECT and PET respectively).Overall, I like the book and chose it for my biopsychology class but every instructor needs to choose based on their own needs for depth and for emphasis.

4-0 out of 5 stars as for textbooks.....
as for textbooks for a biopsych class, this book is certainly interesting and the enhanced cd is definitely a plus.this book has not yet been used as a pillow for a sudden study break nap.the pictures are clear, the writing is friendly, and it's too bad that more texts can't be like this!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great textbook!
I'm a freshman Psychology student at the University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands)... I used this book to study for my course Biological Psychology (duh!)... Anyway, this book is very organized, good summaries and a clear explanation of all the important concepts... 2-0 out of 5 stars Uh OK - Now What???
Hmmmm he goes deep into the history of issues involving the mind, to the point of boredom. Then he goes deep into what types of physical disorders come from the mind having the issues. But then nothing. There is one and a half pages on what you might do in order to assist in resolving these issues.Come on, if this is truly meant to help people then give them something to work with instead of just recommending psychotherapy.I agree with the concept that child abuse/neglect can create hell for the rest of that person's life - but give specific ways to help in getting rid of the garbage instead of what was laid out in this book.He makes way too many references to purchase his other books throughout this book.Just another book thats "all about the money" and not truly about helping others!

3-0 out of 5 stars ok
the book came in a reasonable amount of time but was not the same quality as was initially stated. It said the book was brand new but it had bent corners.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book NOT in Good condition.
Company was prompt and service was great. However, the book was listed in 'good' condition and it is not. I can ignore the writing and hilighting but it had a defect in which it was missing about 50 of it's pages. To me missing pages does not qualify as 'good' condition. These people obviously do not check the quality of thier books.

By melding love, science, and religion into a primer on personalgrowth, M. Scott Peck launched his highly successful writing and lecturing career withthis book. Even to this day, Peck remains at the forefront of spiritualpsychology as a result of Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good example of selfishness
It is apparent that the first premise in Peck's book is that in order for humans to be a whole being, one must grow through spirituality (or enlightenment) attained through "grace" with the main purposes of gaining "capacity and understanding of serendipity" (309) and through "spiritual evolution, whereby people grow towards godhood" (270) and "become God" (283).
5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
Peck's definition of love is unparalleled in any of the literature I have read concerning the matter. I have always been particularly fond of Kahlil Gibran's depiction of marriage and love. However, I feel that Peck redefines it in modern English and provides a contrast to the "mainstream" view of love and "falling in love."
4-0 out of 5 stars Life is difficult...
I read this book and the sequel, People of the Lie around the time that they came out.I was stunned by Peck's honesty. The stories of how he and his patients struggle with the problems and obstacles that confront them are amazing.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is the Myers of Biological Psychology
WOW! This is an incredibly illustrated and beautifully laid out book. The information is fantastic. It is suitable for undergraduate level or early graduate level biological psychology--- its not so detailed that it becomes dry and boring, yet, not too simple that it does the same. Its extremely easy to learn from and very up to date.If you are familiar with the industry-standard general psychology book by Myers-- this one comes close (if not farther) in the way of readability, accessibility to readers, and illustrations. This book provides a strong basis for Neuropsychological studies.Very easy to read and the Neuroscience Animations Disc is essential for examinations and a firmer grasp of the material. There is little emphasis, however, on the neurophysiological basis of the major Psychiatric disorders.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
I borrowed the 4th ed. of this book from a friend of mine to write up a lecture on synaptic transmissions. It was the clearest, most well-written physio psych book I think I've ever seen.Usually when psychologist try to write about biology they end up doing things like describing neurons as "a fluid-filled balloon" (no joke.Actually saw that in my intro textbook), but Carlson is clear yet intelligent.I would definitely recommend this book and hope to use it in my classes in the future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The best I've ever read!
This book is poignant in nature and is spiritually, mentally and emotionally satisfying. This is by far the best book about Love that I've read in a l-o-n-g time.I haven't read a book yet that remotely comes close to the insightful content of this particular book."Dr. Love" really knows how to get her distintive message about love across to such a wide array of audiences.Thank you, Dr. Patricia Love for helping me redefine love and utilize your practical skills for keeping the true love that I have with my partner of 9+ years alive.I highly, highly recommend this book for anyone struggling with how to keep love alive or/and how to redefine true love in ways you may have thought of but never put to use.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great start, Good finish
In The Truth About Love, Dr. Love breaks "love" down into four stages -- Infatuation, Post-Rapture, Discovery, and Connection. The first part of the book seems pretty grounded in science and makes for interesting reading.I can understand why relationships tend to fall apart for many people.I can also see why rushing into marriage can be a bad idea. The Infatuation Stage, she tells us, can last from 6 months to 2 years. So, rushing into marriage while still infatuated can create false ideas of what the marriage will be like. This part of the book was quite strong.I would say that the later parts of the book -- Discovery and Connection -- are strong too, but I sometimes found the information a little repetitive.I did learn a lot while reading this book, and I did see my relationship improve. And, interestingly, the relationship improved even though I was the only one of the two of us who read the book -- just like the book promised could happen. My only complaint is that the book probably could have been twenty pages shorter. But, it's still a good and helpful read.

5-0 out of 5 stars There's more to love thanyou think
Don't be misled by the somewhat cheesy title or the fact that the author's name is Dr. Patricia LOVE-this is an excellent book that provides a much needed reality check to both married and unmarried couples alike. Whether you're having relationship problems or experiencing smooth sailing with your partner, this book is a highly recommended "must read." Filled with practical advice, The Truth About Love takes an honest look at the nature of love in all it's myriad forms and walks you through and shows you how to cope with the various stages that all relationships go through. Dr. Love shows that true love is truly a lot of work but that it if you're serious about it, it can be one of the most rewarding jobs in life. My boyfriend and I read this a year ago in an effort to better understand one another and to work through some issues we were having-not only did this book relieve some anxieties that we both were experiencing but it brought us closer together. Love is more than a feeling; it's a journey that you take with another person and both of you are active participants in how that journey unfolds. So make the most of it and read this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I have taught from this book in New Zealand and America. If your students are used to being spoon fed they may rebel at its complexity -- but if they are given proper guidance it will be useful first introduction and enduringly useful text for them.If you are graduating students with degrees in psychology and they cannot comprehend this book -- then their degree is not worth the paper it is printed on.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Student Reader
This text is much too complex for even an advanced undergraduate student. I found the chapters to be poorly organized, repetitious and over emphatical on small points, and vague on many important points. For a reader who has a good deal of previous exposure to behavior psychology, this may be a good text. For the majority of readers using this as a text to obtain an undergraduate degree without an emphisis on behavior, it is not. It seems to require quite a bit of previous exposure to behaviorist theories that most readers I have encountered do not have.

4-0 out of 5 stars A must for anyone serious about behavior.
This book is not for the faint of heart but is indispensable for anyone seriously into the field of behavior. In the animal training field it is one of the five top books that I and many other trainers recommend. Read more

This book is one of my absolute favorites among the hearing research books. It covers all the basic themes and often gives very recent citations.
