5-0 out of 5 stars This book is very good for people who think too much
If you have problems with anxiety, self-esteem, and overthinking then, this book is really for you.It will help you preserve important decision-making skills. It will also help you heal from many psychological problems. This book will allow you to develop healthier thinking in general. This is a very good self-help book.I really liked this book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Women Who Think Too Much
This book was very disappointing.Every chapter seems to constantly review the negative people and situations that "women constantly think of" giving examples. On and on with all the negativity, it was depressing. The advice given was what any friend could tell you. There is no new advice, just seems to be a review of everyone's problems and to "do something else", so you don't think about it. I was bored and disappointed, the worst book I've read in a long time. Made me think too much about what a waste of money it was!

3-0 out of 5 stars lots of repetition
This book will probably be helpful for the average woman with minor problems with overthinking who hasn't as yet identified this as her problem. The book could have been much shorter and said just as much. There is a lot of repetition that will probably prove helpful for women trying to figure out if this is their problem as many synoptic examples of overthinking are given. For others that have read a lot about anxiety etc.it will be less helpful and very repetitive. Most of the strategies will not help those with serious debilitating problems, but may provide relief for women (or men) with occassional bouts of anxiety and overthinking. Methods of distraction and telling oneself to stop are only marginally helpful to those with more serious problems in this area, as if one could stop that easily, presumably one would have done so long ago. This book will mostly help some people to realize they can give themselves permission to stop ruminating. For those who are beyond being helped by that, it offers little more than a bandage. There isn't much scientific information on nuerology outside of a paragraph or two. The rest is mostly anecdotal. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Loner's Manifesto
Great book, very enjoyable.I liked the style of writing, presenting the book as a Manifesto. As a "loner," I am continually amazed that "nonloners" can not fathom why anyone would want to be alone.I enjoy my solitude.I enjoy my company. From time to time, I can tolerate and perhaps even enjoy social events.
3-0 out of 5 stars Lots of dry information
I bought and read this book to feel some solidarity with other introverts who enjoy peace, quiet, nature, books, cooking for themselves, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Loner does NOT mean psychopath!
A great non-fiction read for anyone who tends toward needing alone time.More importantly, a MUST read for those who LIVE with loners! My daughter is a loner (yes, recharges her battery by solitude... and she's not a serial killer nor on antidepressants!)Those of us non-loners (those who enjoy the company of others more frequently,) must learn more about this severely misunderstood group of wonderful, creative, witty and inwardly strong people who would just rather stay home than go out with friends.Teachers, therapists, clergy...please, please consider this book for "the antisocials" in your care. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars amazingly naive vibration
This is a truly amazing book! This is a book written by a highly uneducated person for even less educated reader. As the author says in the introduction, this book is designed for young people of all ages... Well, what's that, "young of all ages?"Simple: those "whose imagination has not been stifled by standard educational process."At the very outset, the author reassures the reader that the book is not going to be a technical or scientific one. He says with a poorly concealed pride "My brush with academia was a fairly short one:I was expelled from kindergarten at the age of four... and have never managed to resume normal studies since, not to mention graduating from anyplace."As a result, "I am a fairly stupid fellow who could not learn any mathematics at all."This lack of really serious knowledge of anything does not prevent the author from making judgments, always with a sort of"elegance of ignorance", regarding very big topics, like, say, theory of relativity, and holography, and brain functioning (through electromagnetic and sound vibrations), and Biggg Banggg, of course. So, my recommendation to those with at least K12 education: do not waste time and find a better way to spend $9.97.
5-0 out of 5 stars NOTES TO MYSELF
Itzhak Bentov's book, STALKING THE WILD PENDULUM, explained many things to me about altered states, and the nature of consciousness itself. He really tied it all together in a mind-altering way.I was totally delighted with the experience. In reading through these reviews, I was also moved with compassion for the few individuals who seemed unable to understand it, and/or unable to "get the picture" (don't give up!).And, to the one person who was "saddened" that he will never get to speak one on one with ITZHAK, I say, YOU STILL CAN!GO INSIDE!REMEMBER, HE IS YOU, FOR ALL ARE ONE!"IT'S" in you (everything)!
5-0 out of 5 stars A Scientistwith a Heart!
Itzhak Bentov's Stalking the Wild Pendulum should be required reading...not for high school or college students but rather the corporate funded materialist scientists who still promote a mechanistic, three dimensional world view completely devoid of compassion, humor, and more importantly spirit.Itzhak had all of these sorely lacking qualities which is evident throughout S.T.W.P.Tragically, he died in the DC-10 crash at O'Hare airport back in the late '70's.Buy this book not only in his honor but also in hopes to spark a much needed spiritual re-birth in science.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great tool for business owners
This book has so much common sense information. I use it as one tool to screen applications.

5-0 out of 5 stars I highly recommend this book...
This is a very "easy read". The concepts and ideas are laid out in an easy to understand format. I loved the quiz at the beginning of the chapters. I also enjoyed the celebrity and criminal handwriting samples. There are lots of samples to study. I was amazed and even shocked at how well graphology really works.

5-0 out of 5 stars Business Applicability
My 5-person leadership team read the introduction to this book, each took the personality test, and discovered what "color" we were.Next, at an off-site leadership meeting, we discussed our color personality, which traits we thought fit and didn't fit, and how we could apply it to our communication and relationships at work.A month later, all our direct reports have also used the book to discover their personality color. In meetings where there is conflict, we remind each other of our personality colors and it helps us see other perspectives.Great book!

1-0 out of 5 stars This Book is AWFUL, Nothing like what I expected!
I would have given this book a 0 star but it doesn't have that option. This is the WORST book I've ever read.It doesn't really explain things good and after reading it I do not believe that there are only 4 color personality types or whatever because I did not fit any color in that book at all.Don't waste your money.I thought it would be really good and I was really wrong.

1-0 out of 5 stars Color Code is better and more detailed!
This book lacks detail. The Color Code is a better book to decipher personalities. The Color Code goes into detail about your personal color personality and how your personality relates to other color personalities.I felt that "What Color Is Your Personality?" was dismal.

5-0 out of 5 stars From anger to happiness
More than an exploration of anger, this book is a prescription for overcoming hidden aggression and finding lasting happiness.Lots of references to helpful resources about how to help couples deal with conflict in relationships.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hitting the Nail on the Head
Great book, and very readable.Anyone who has ever come away from a "sneak attack" encounter knowing they've been done in but not sure what just happened will appreciate the explanation of how to deal with hidden aggression. From school bullies to toxic relatives to smile-while-they-stab you co-workers, the book reveals what the tactics are, how hidden aggression works, and most importantly, how to effectively end the abuse.A must-read!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent advice for mixed messages and angry remarks
I've read a few books about how people behave, what they say to each other, and this is by far superior to many.Though other authors get rave publicity on 20/20 and other shows, their books lack substance.I especially liked the childhood component chapter to this as it explains why people might get so angry and hold things in.Then, as the authors show in countless examples, it sneaks out and bites you. What's best, it's not geared to one gender as some books are these days so it helps everyone.I understand passive aggressive people a LOT better after reading this book and highlighting a few sections.I'm sure I'll refer to it next time I'm thrown by a difficult person. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars This book really did change my life
I was a young well educated military aerospace engineer and a devout right-wing Christian when a senior engineer handed me this book and asked me if I listened to the content of my dreams.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Examples
The examples in world mythology, among real-world examples, make this book. There's yet a concept that I didn't understand perfectly. This book is easily a step for the beginner to individuation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful & illuminating
I first read this book as a teenager 30 years ago. At the time I was a little overwhelmed by its richness & depth, gleaning only a little of its wisdom. But after three decades of reading it many times over, I've grown enough to truly appreciate the soul-nourishing food for thought to be found in its pages. I've seldom come across an elucidation of Jungian & spiritual thought with such clarity & poetry! Even more than Jung's own work, this book gave me my first understanding of the reality of the Psyche, as well as providing me with a new perception of God & the Sacred which went far beyond the either/or simplicity of Literal vs. Illusion. It helped me to grasp that what goes on inside is just as real as the experience of the exterior universe -- in some ways, perhaps even moreso. And each new reading reveals more layers of understanding for me. Most highly recommended! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my all-time favorites.
I've read this book at various points in my life and it never fails to ring true. In crappy times it was the voice of clarity and confidence, and with the existing empowerment in the day-to-day, it serves as validation and a nice boost to want to do more. This book should be required reading for every teenaged girl.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is a treasure
I have read many many books, and I have to say that this is one of my absolute favorites. This is a book of the highest quality.Don't be fooled from the title, this is not a sappy how to love yourself book. This is a straight forward, intense account of the world around us as we know it. Yet in a way, that I believe only Gloria Steinem could tell it.She is at once brilliant, insightful, comforting, and angering. Her book made me see life through new eyes, better eyes. Steinem's book is also so obviously well researched, in fact startling facts and statistics reside on every page.If you want to feel passion and rightous anger in your soul, or if you want to read a book that will open your eyes, read this one.Books of this caliber really do not come around that often.

5-0 out of 5 stars The political is personal... and likewise
Like a beacon of light, this book provided me with the inspiration slowly draining from my activism. So often, as a woman, I feel I must concentrate on the characteristics of myself that are celebrated by this patriarchal society to be taken seriously. I really needed a feminist voice to remind me of the freedom of self that is the goal of social equality.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Tired of all those confusing opinions about your love life?
Sharon S. Brehm is a respected social psychologist who has composed a witty, fun, and insightful tome regarding the many fascinating contributions her field has made to the study of love relationships. Popular press books may or may not offer valid advice--they aren't relyingon scientific research, but rather on opinions (which often conflict withthe opinions found in still other books).Brehm offers her readersinformation that is reliable and valid, and perhaps most importantly, useful.Better still, her book is equally applicable for men and women. As a psychology professor and a consultant for individuals seeking theirlife mate, I read and use many books--texts and popular press--on thisissue.Brehm's book is among my most trusted resources, and it givesreaders the best of all worlds: excellent and engaging writing that iseasily understood, information that is eminently useful, and solid researchevidence rather than opinion alone.Should you live together?Doesmarriage really make people happier than if they had remained single?Whatattracts romantic partners? If you want "just the facts," thisis the place to go for them.(If you want opinion-type popular-press booksthat support "the facts" and thus really do give good advice, Ihighly recommend"If I'm So Wonderful, Why Am I Still Single?"by Susan Page, as well as "How to Find the Love of Your Life," byBen Dominitz, "The Rules," by Ellen Fein and Sherrie Schneider[note: "The Rules" are for women only], and "Mars and Venuson a Date," by John Gray.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Understand your own intimate relationships better!
Confused about your conflicts with your significant other?Do you want to find out why people are attracted to some people but not others?Reading this book for my sociology class in college allowed me to better comprehend my own relationships. The book collects together social psychological research on intimate relationships, discussing such topics as attraction, sexuality, power, conflict, loneliness, and relationship development.Unlike other non-scholarly books written about relationships, this text is based on studies published by psychologists.Their conclusions can help you better understand your own relationships, but of course each individual person may differ from what sociologists generally conclude about human beings.Even though this book was written for psychology courses, the text is not too difficult to understand. This book is extremely interesting, and I highly recommend it to anyone who has been, wants to be, or is currently in a relationship - which is, basically, everyone ... This is the 30th book I have read in my new field of psychology.I just finished my Masters in Counseling and state this book is so well written and in depth; it provides a review of many of the important aspects of my Masters Program; e.g. theories, diagnosis, therapy tools and techniques. While a wonderful book on Dissociative Identity Disorder, it is also a great resource for many aspects of therapy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ranks in Scope and Wisdom with the Works of St. John of the Cross
This is simply the most significant book on the spiritual journey written in our time-- indeed, one of the most important books of all time.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Timeless Classic Expanding the Tradition of the Great Mystics
"The Experience of No-Self" is a fascinating book for anyone interested in mystical states of consciousness.Bernadette Roberts describes her own experiences through the often harrowing journey of a modern day mystic. What makes this book so unique is that there is very little written in the classic literature that adequately addresses the state of consciousness which Bernadette herself attained. With the exception of a few passages by Meister Eckhart, the author of "The Experience of No-Self" could not find a frame of reference with which to compare her experiences. This book raises many stimulating questions and provides a great deal of clarification concerning previously uncharted territories. For those readers familiar with Buddhist teachings, it is interesting to contrast Bernadette's descriptions with those found in the Buddhist literature concerning emptiness and the concept of no-self.Of all of Ms. Robert's books, I found this one to be the most accessible, despite the fact that it engages the reader in a very complex topic. This is a testament to the profound depth of Ms. Robert's experience and her commitment and skill in communicating a difficult subject. The book is subtitled, "A Contemplative Journey," and even the great adventures written about in fiction can scarcely compare with the breadth and scope of this mystic's journey.

5-0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary work
This is an extraordinary account of our journey with God.In it, Bernadette talks of a milestone in the spiritual life that lies beyond union with God. After years of living a life united with God and given completely to God, she comes upon an event in which the entire self falls away. There is now no union, no center, and strictly speaking no experience at all. What remains is Christ and the Resurrection and a knowing (without subject) that to me speaks of the beginning of a beatific vision of God--a vision without mediator.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Buy It.Save Yourself Some Work
If you are a highly sensitive person with a non-HSP partner this book is very helpful. First of all, HSPs are often capable of delivering incredibly long explanations of their behavior to select quarters. When called on to explain themselves to a partner, they can speak in epics.
4-0 out of 5 stars Sound Advice on Building Sensitive Relationships
The Highly Sensitive Person in Love is Dr. Elaine N. Aron's "sequel" to her best-selling book "The Highly Sensitive Person." 5-0 out of 5 stars An encouraging and informative read
In my annual Valentine's Day funk over being perpetually unattached, I bought this book.It was the perfect purchase. It has helped me discover ways (that aren't totally alien to my personality) that I can use for trying to meet somebody special, and what seems like a good guide to the types of things I'll feel and experience as I get into relationships. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!
This book was fantastic. It helped me realize that I wasn't the crazy one and that the toxic people in my life were there because of their own actions. The way they acted towards me and others wasn't my fault and it wasn't because of me.This is a great book to help anyone figure out who the toxic people are in their lives and it tells you how to handle them accordingly.Highly recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Avoiding the toxic
This book is one of the best books I've ever read. Not only is this book easy to read and understand, but it also provides good insight into the different types of personality disorders sometimes challenging the reader to examine his or herself. The author prepares us for what we may encounter in relationships, friendships, and even in the work place. We often face people who have toxic personalities and get sucked in, the book helps us to identify and break away. The book also tells us how toxic people don't know their toxic, often blaming you for problems never looking at themselves sometimes making you question your own sanity making the title perfect. I enjoyed the book and I believe at one point or another everyone should read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Revolutionary motivational foundation
I learned about Maslow's motivational hierarchy decades ago but found it not very useful for determining what an individual would do, particularly in a specific circumstance. This book provided a scientifically-appealing foundation for making that kind of determination. It well explained why I get along better with some people than others and what I can do about improving my relationships with those people with whom I don't seem to fit. After testing myself, spouse, children, and close friends and associates, I believe I better understand both myself and them. I can better predict what they might do and where they are going with their thought processes. I believe this book contains a revolutionary foundation for understanding the motives of people.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading, but repetitive
I have read many books about self help, psychology, and human behavior, and I believe I learned more from this one than from any other book.Reiss's theory is that all human beings are motivated by sixteen basic desires, and your personal prescription for happiness depends on the relative strengths of these desires. He argues that these desires are genetically determined.I believe that the science behind the "Reiss Profile" is sound, unlike the many other similar books that claim to tell you about yourself. The theory of personality originated with William James; Reiss has extended this work and in this book makes his important findings available to the general reader.5-0 out of 5 stars An interesting angle on behaviour
While the book is far from scientific, based as it is on a personal interpretation of a behavioural profile method, it does provide one more approach to examining fundamental human differences -- the why don't you behave like I do? question. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't Even Go Near a Courtroom Without It!
This is the single most useful psych resource I've ever used, and I have a pretty extensive library. The explanations of some of the internal features of the MMPI-II were impressive andhelpful even to a Ph.D. psychologist with 30 years' clinical experience!Unless you have a graduate degree in psychology, this book is your best bet for mounting an effective challenge to bad, sloppy, or harmful psychological testing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Usefulness in Forensic Psychology
I found this book to be highly readable, well indexed, and a valuable source for report writing and preparing court testimony. The research cited is current, validity and clinical scales well defined, and sources ofbias clearly stated. In addition, ethical considerations and pitfalls ofreliance on this testing instrument are provided.Excellent comparisons ofthe MMPI and MMPI-2 including modified, deleted, and new items.Extremelyvaluable for any psychologist going to court and explaining to a judge orjury to results and interpretations of this instrument.

5-0 out of 5 stars For the pro per dad seeking equal custody
I was subjected to the MMPI and it's interpretations while attempting to maintain equal parenting time of my son. After my attorney ignored repeated requests for the results, I fired him, and have since representedmyself.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars A good tool
I started using art projection when I was a psychologist for a child adolescent unit in a state hospital.A good way to engage angry or depressed children without threat is to ask them to draw something, unless they have poor perceptual motor skills. But getting them to draw will tell you something about that right away. It is important to know what to expect in average drawing skills and this book helps with that. It also gives a place to start with children who have difficulty with verbal expression. This is not the Be All- End All text but it is worthy of being a companion to other art evaluation tools. It is for the subjective anecdotal information to supplement the more objective tools.

5-0 out of 5 stars It works for me in Special Education: quick emotional test
This is not the original I was trained to use but it works as well or better than Goodall's.I use it twice a year and have found the student responses are more in depth for interpretation than their psychoeducational or psychological reports. You can find more quickly where the "hope" level is and put energy into those who are reachable and refer those who aren't.I have collected hundreds of these samples over the years and find most are right on the mark. Of course, it mustn't be used as a diagnostic tool but it works well as a verifier of info.

2-0 out of 5 stars An unproven laundry list for interpretation
For those who want easy answers to deciphering drawings, then this book is a *must read.* But reader beware-- this research is not particularly sound and the original text was written in the early 70's, approximately 30 years ago-- and this book was not significantly updated since then. Hello! Our family values and ideas about family have changed since then, but that is not addressed in this volume. An art therapist worth their salt does not use this type of unreliable assessment to work with clients. I apologize for disagreeing with the last reviewer, but I believe this volume is more of a *must avoid* rather than any type of a classic in the field of art therapy. ... Read more
