5-0 out of 5 stars Helped Me Understand Myself!
A great book that expands on the Meyers-Briggs ground-breaking work. Helped me understand myself and learn that my unique quirks and preferences have more to do with being human that I would have ever known!

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Informative
I had doubts as to how useful or informative this book would be, but was pleasantly surprised on its content.

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing after I
I bought this book because others had written how it was so much more comprehensive than the first edition. Unfortunately, David Keirsey appears to have fallen prey to the ego-elevating practice of creating his own labels for established concepts without adding information to those concepts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally: An overview of important validity research
The Rorschach, and also the Comprehensive System (RCS), has been inadvertently criticised - continuosly - although the research associated with the reliability and validity of the method has increadingly accumulated during the years - and in particular in the late 90's. However, as Kubiszyn (?) et al. recently have written, this research is not all that easily found, nor is it for the ordinary clinician particularly easy to read and understand, part of it being so complex and statistically advanced. Therefore, this book - published by Wiley in 2003 - is so important. It not only gives the development and structure of the RCS, nor the strategy of cluster analysis, but the book contains hundreds of well conducted bot reliability and in particular validity studies, aggregated in proper places where the different variables and ratios are described - and this is an immense improvement as compare to the 1993 (3rd) edition. I, who am the person primarily responsible for convincing people in Finland of how well the RCS functions - as well as teaching psychologists to mastery - am extremely grateful for all the additional and well organized research published here. When I wrote a about 20 pages review of reliability and validity for the Yearbook Rorschachiana 2003 this would have bene an assed to have - now I am primarily using it in an RCS educational program (165 lectures)in Finland. I am also producing an excerpt of probably some 50-60 singlespaced pages in Finnish regarding in particular the most important peaces of scientific work, confirming the reliability and validity reseacrh related to the RCS!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Updated Classic
As a clinical psychologist who uses the Rorschach regularly and teaches it to graduate students, I have always relied upon this volume as a bible of sorts for all-things-Rorschach. The newest edition is a wonderful updating of the classic. Despite being about the same number of pages as the last edition, this volume packs much more information in, and is written in a more concise and relevant way. Exner has updated some of the historical lore regarding Hermann and the roots of his test, as well as incorporating a full chapter on controversies surrounding the Rorschach. Furthermore, the interpretive section is modeled after the format of the very useful Primer on Rorschach Interpretation, and incorporates all of the recent changes and innovations in the Comprehensive System. This volume could easily be the "one stop shop" for Rorschachers, as it has normative data, administration and scoring guidelines, and a well-organized interpretive section. Who could ask for more? ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Perfect Condition
The book was in great condition and came in a matter of days. This was a good first online purchasing experience for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars difficult reading, but a must have for the MMPI
This book is not one you would ordinarily read cover-to-cover, but it is a must have for anyone who is using the MMPI.Greene is a MMPI genius and he knows the MMPI like no one else.I'm using his book more as a reference, and I'm using other books such as Butcher's to actually learn the MMPI.

4-0 out of 5 stars Exelent book
This is the best book I have read regarding the MMPI-2. It gives in depth coverage of almost all known scales available for the MMPI-2, and has all you need to learn to use the test. Codetypes are well explained, and presented in a systematic fashion. There are lots of infomration about codetypes which are useful in the case of juding the deegre to which the patient fits the particular codetype description. The book also includes several validityscales which are very usable to attain an in depth understanding of the response pattern of the test subject.

I read this book quite a few years ago but I really enjoyed the updated version. She has so much wisdom about this topic.I teach school and I have my students take this test. It really helps me to understand them and plan accordingly. It has also helped me to understand my kids and husband.I highly recommend it to parents and educators. Very enlightening!

5-0 out of 5 stars Elementary foundation usually serves us best
Reviewer Pascal Schoneburg complains, "If you're totally new to personality theories and or psychology as a whole, this book may be for you - if you have aquired a knowledge foundation in psychology this book feels almost like an insult." Well, Pascal, I have a master's degree in clinical psychology and I find Littauer's simple, foundational explanations the easiest to explain, illustrate, and understand one's essential personality. Go ahead and work with other systems that give you a possible fit in 16 categories, or 9, or whatever--and see how easily you remember what you've been taught.
2-0 out of 5 stars Level 1Reading
I have used their personality test sheet which I really liked so I bought the book to deepen my understanding. This book speaks to the reader at an elementary level, like talking to a child. I found it a bit upsetting and discontinued the book after chapter 1. If you're totally new to personality theories and or psychology as a whole, this book may be for you - if you have aquired a knowledge foundation in psychology this book feels almost like an insult. It made me feel like the authors think that the readers are like little dumb children that need stupid 'real life' examples after every single point... This book should in fact be in the children section or maybe young adults. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for introverts and extrovert who want to understand their introverted partners better
I enjoyed this book and there is a lot of wisdom behind the humorous presentation of the content. It is very readable and equally informative. In a nutshell, it describes what introversion is and a simple test to determine your type, how to cope as an introvert living in an extroverted world and how to bring forth more of the outgoing shadow side of your introvert nature in the service of your own goals and the good of society without compromising yourself.
2-0 out of 5 stars There MUST be Better Books on this Topic
This book was mediocre, as to the contents about living life as an introvert. For one, the title is totally misleading in that she never describes how to thrive in an extrovert world, nor addresses why we really should be concerned with that.If you want a book with a few interesting tidbits as to introversion, this is your book. But why pay for the book, given the little you gain?Just check it out from the library.Overall is is a terrible discussion of the topic and misnamed.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is my Bible!
Suddenly I understand myself much better. I have pushed myself to long to act like an extrovert which I'm not. After reading this book I'm proud to be an introvert. I do no longer feel that I'm not normal spending more time alone than others I know. I gave this book to my mother who gave me the introvert gene...and she loves the book! I learn a lot being together with extrovert people. My girlfriend (who is an extrovert) never understood why I sometimes need some time alone and I have never been good to give her a good answer. Now I can put words on my feelings. Great. I prefer extrovert girlfriends. I think that an introvert/extrovert relationship is more dynamic. I think it is easier to be an introvert here in Scandinavia than other places (US). But we still have an extrovert ideal (or extrovert culture) and we always will. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The sequel to The millionaire next door
If you read and enjoyed the Millionaire next door this book is a great follow up for more of how the real millionaires think. I is basically the same and the before mentioned book however in this book the author makes a successful attempt to get inside a millionaires head by studying their behavior.
1-0 out of 5 stars I Couldn'tWake Up
Having read "The Millionaire Next Door," as well as most if not all of the classics in this category, I expected life-altering experiences with this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars HOW MILLIONAIRES GOT THAT WAY - PRACTICAL AND INSIGHTFUL INSIDER-INFO
Productivity...attack, working in conjunction with frugality...defense - many coaches and success writers tend to focus more on the former tactics than the latter. Interesting to learn that you may earn lots of money - millions even - and be "Income-affluent", but still not be a champion player, as Dr. Thomas Stanley sees it. The real goal, he says, is to be "Balance sheet-affluent". Welcome to the real meaning of millionaire.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional, the best book on the topic
If you have the vaugest inkling that you are a narcissist or are in a relationship with one, buy and read superb book immediatey.Sam has done the world a great service by elucidating all the manifestations, deceptions and behaviors that are created by narcissism.Since narcissism is so accepted in our culture, it is at first hard to see the damage that it can do, since narcissists make such entertaining and accomplished people.Yet the damage to themselves and others can be catastropic. As a narcissist myself, I can tell you that this book has played a tremendous role in my own healing. If you are a narcissist, amaze the world by reading this book, taking to heart what it has to say, and changing yourself for the better. You'll enjoy life a lot more, and people will enjoy you more as well.My only complaint is the high price of this book--but it is still worth it, and still worthy of five stars.

4-0 out of 5 stars An Important Book, Poorly Written
Ms Evans has made a ground-breaking stand in helping people identify a controlling relationship. The behaviours of "controlling people" are made clear and unmistakeable, which will definitely be a comfort to people who may have felt that they could not put their finger on precisely what is wrong in their relationship with a controller. As has been previously noted, the rather fluffy terms Evans uses throughout the work (Teddy, Spellbreakers, etc.) do tend to grate after a while, and Evans does not go on to give much advice on how to cope with a controller once s/he is identified. If the author is leading up to something, I'd love to see it.As it stands, it's spot-on for identifying the problem, but lacking in how to solve it.

4-0 out of 5 stars controlling people
This was a very enlightening book. I recommend it for everyone, who is in any type of relationship. It helped me deal with every day issues. I bought ir for my 21 year old daughter who keeps dating these controlling men. Then I read it after she did. And I was even more enlightened.

4-0 out of 5 stars Catch this lifeline before the ship sinks, with you still aboard!
After 8 months of a roller coaster relationship and one month in therapy, this book gave me back my sanity. Ms Evans exposes the mysteries about controlling people and the secrets that they struggle to hide, at your expense.

I like the fun approach and easy style, I've even used it to talk to my kids. The picture of the 9 types seated around the party table up front with their thought bubbles is priceless! All the subtlety of the enneagram is there, this is no "cookie-cutter" approach. 4-0 out of 5 stars If you have to choose, you should select "In Over Our Heads"
I happened to read Kegan's, "In Over Our Heads: The Mental Demands of Modern Life," prior to reading "The Evolving Self." While both books were very good, I don't think I gleaned a whole lot of additional insight from "The Evolving Self." So, if you are busy and can only afford to read one or the other of these two books by Kegan, I recommend you select "In Over Our Heads."

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE ABSOLUTE BESTS EVER
Comprehensive, Brilliant, highly Creative and introduces a vocabulary for human development that plugs into so many important theoretical and practictical domains.A year before this book came out, Ken Wibler wrote "The Atman Project" which articulates a very similiar vision from a slightly different angel.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Developmental Masterpiece
The Evolving Self is one of the best books that I have ever read.Kegan's eloquent presentation of the dynamic process of human consciousness evolution is incredible.Kegan presents the very best of developmental theory, while at the same time acknowledging and avoiding the trappings that such a perspective tends to fall into.Developmental theory can often lead to a very compartmentalized view of people, but Kegan's emphasis on the person as a meaning-making process sidesteps these tendencies.Throughout his writings, I felt an incredible empathy with the undercurrent of evolution sliding under all personality.Rather than using his model to categorize myself and those around me (as I have an unfortunate inclination to do with developmental theory) I instead found myself identifying with the universal forces that run through all human beings which express themselves in and as the developmental stages. This might perhaps seem like an unimportant semantic shift, but in actuality it discloses a monumental difference between these two stances. This is true precisely because my ability to help another is proportional to the degree to which I can identify with them and their struggles. The warmth of this genuinely empathetic approach to psychological development is refreshing and liberating. ... Editorial Review

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator temperament test is given annually to millions of people, mainly business students and job applicants. But what good does it do, short of giving you a catchy-sounding, four-letter abbreviation (ENTJ, ISFP) that you can sometimes use to break the ice at cocktail parties? The aim of this book is to help you apply your knowledge to the benefit of both your work and love life--and to teach you how to prevent personality clashes by slightly adjusting your behavior around others, once you ascertain which "type" they fall under.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Most accurate Enneagram typing system out there
I am an executive coach and I work with the Enneagram extensively with my clients. This book has by far the most accurate and reliable self-typing system available, and it's also very fast.
4-0 out of 5 stars Oh no!I'm an unhealthy artist!I'm going to kill myself!!
I stumbled upon this "enchanted and mythological" book at my local bookstore after delving deep into the heart of enneagram studies.Enneagram studies consist of nine types that all coincide within us, but one of the personalities is dominant over all others.Ms. Mccoy on this review page reiterates an interesting point; one she could have tried to more accurately discuss: We can label ourselves by looking at the "typing" of this obvious and blatant info, and the labeling process we do to ourselves can impede our process in life.If for example someone discovers that he or she is an artist, (an artist being one that has trouble feeling and is most likely slow at doing things as it is portrayed in the book)this person might use that label as an excuse to why he or she can't get a job or uses this as a reason to act out. However, just like justice, hatred, caring, or FREEDOM, everyone has a different response to the world in which they live, and I don't feel that this book reveals too much beyond what a person does not already know about him or herself. If ANYTHING - this book is to be used as an indicator, a direction, and most of all, an understanding of everyone else and their secret desires/impulses.Media is a double-edged sword, it can help you or hurt you.Ms. Mccoy's response to this book is one of a person who doesn't want to be labeled, and I can respect that, however; the enneagram gives way to the fact that there are labels in this society - ones we normally use everyday AND not with such discriminatory purposes.Such as she/he.Black/white.Good/Bad.Labeling is built into our heads, its the way we see the world. So it all comes down to asking yourself if its ok to discern differences within people or not.If not, I'd avoid this book----(...) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Interesting, no-nonsense, and engaging.
This book is very interesting. As the title implies -- sociopaths seem to be "everywhere", for lack of a better word. But the book, in my opinion, is not meant to sensationalize or to scare -- in fact, I found it very informative. It's also not boring to read.Even if you aren't a Psychology buff (as I'm not) it is layman-friendly and doesn't use a lot of jargon from her field; and, when she does, Dr. Stout takes time to explain. She uses plenty of examples and takes a no-nonsense approach.
5-0 out of 5 stars Conscience Or Superego?
Despite the marketing of the book as a "how to" in isolating destructive types conquering your life in which it succeeds..the book itself is also a lucid study in dealing with the questions surrounding human motivation, nature nurture arguements, inflation of ego,the clash between rugged individualism and the common good as well as clarity in outlining the arguments with evolutionary biology and psychology as to the future of mankind and the creation of a just society based on conscience.
5-0 out of 5 stars If you deal with people, you need this book
Remarkable insight and non-judgmental. Anyone in a profession that deals directly with people, i.e.. teachers, lawyers, human resource, etc. should read this book. Although it probably describes most people in the entertainment industry, it is may be explaining the the person closest to you. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars guided by Bronfenbrenner
As an instructor, I found this to be an excellent text.In particular, I appreciated the repeated incorporation of cross-cultural research. This text answers the call for incorporating diversity across the curriculum.Repeated inclusion of cross-cultural similarities and differences, combined with repeated discussions of the interconnections of multiple variables, helps students move away from a "one-size fits all" approach and egocentric thinking.By the end of the semester, when students were presented with a hypothetical problem scenario to resolve, they quickly outlined a list of additional details they would need to know, offering how each variable (parenting style, ethnicity, location of residence, violence within family, etc.) would alter the "goodness of fit" of their intervention. Also, the author does not shy away from presenting research evidence that is sometimes contradictory or inconclusive, which provides an excellent opportunity for in-class discussions of the reality of research and how, as a field, we address these issues. The only drawback is the amount of information sometimes overwhelmed students, so I found it necessary to focus their reading on certain sections of each chapter - however this can also be viewed as strength, since it allowed me to "customize" my course to some extent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
If you have read Personality Types then this book is even better. It actually shows you who you are by a series of questions. I remember because it showed me I was wrong about my own self (after just reading Personality Types)! So, needless to say, this book along with Personality Types is all you will ever need to learn to about psychology. ... Read more
