5-0 out of 5 stars A truly Inspirational Book - Read it!
If you have lost your job involuntarily, think you may be on the bubble or are just questioning your whole approach and understanding of the work-a-day world, you should read this book!I lost my job in August of 2002 after returning from a very successful 3-year assignment in London.I was devastated, how could I be treated this way.I thought if you showed up and did a great job, you were in for life.Boy was I wrong!I came across this book recommended by an author of a paperback called The Lay-Off Survival Guide.5-0 out of 5 stars Building Personal Resilience
Ms. Pulley has written a very useful treatise on resilience in the context of the workplace. She very succintly brings out the feelings and emotions that a person who has lost his/her job involuntarily feels and experiences. Her ideas and thoughts based on her interviews with people who have gone through the "trough" would make an invaluable contribution to those who are on their path to recovery and more importantly success on their terms. Though the book is written based on the American experience, I am of the opinion that it is applicable anywhere in the world. For those who live under the threat of likely loss of their job involuntarily, this book would be useful in understanding the feelings that you may be encountering. This book could even be a road-map to move-on and re-define yourself, discover a new dimension of success and of course, get on with re-building and living a more meaningful life in which you will find satisfaction and happiness in.

5-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding self-help book for career transitions
I picked up this book with some skepticism after losing a job, but found that I could not put it down! And after finishing it, I went out and got a temp job in ONE DAY which I still have -- and have been asked to stay on.It is excellent as practical as well as philosophical support for anyoneseeking to improve his or her resilience in a crisis.Instead of despairPulley and Deal offer hope. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive - but needs an update to accommodate internet surveys and other methodological developments.
I purchased this 418pp volume in 1998 and recently re-read this book to reacquaint myself with the rich material. What Kraut has done as an editor is to select 35 pertinent papers that discuss Organizational Surveys under three main heading:
4-0 out of 5 stars Was good to the last chapter...then was a downer.
Book covers a wide variety of survey topics very well. I underlined a great many thoughts. One thought that occured to me was that I was on my way to doing Organizational Surveys. But at the end was warned "Iwould be a 'bounder' if I read a few books and started practicing." It seems this book's final conclusion is that you need to join the Union todo surverys, ie. be a phd or working under one.The book was still a greatvalue. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Hits the subject from just about every angle.
I have liked all of the "For Dummies" books I have read, as well as a couple of books and tapes by Mark McCormack. This guy lives and breathes time management.Though dummies books are more like reading a textbook, they can be perused rather quickly.Planning, taking notes, assuming best and worse scenarios, dealing with the person who will make the final decision, etc..There's a lot a person can do to make things go his/her way--especially when most people are just not willing to take the necessary steps. The author has learned, through the school of hard knock how to get ahead. And he has. This book doesn't miss a beat!I highly recommend it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Resource for Getting the Most out of Each Day
I read the condensed version of this book. I picked it up while waiting on line to buy groceries at the supermarket. If the full version is anything like the condensed version, then I am sure that you cannot go wrong with this book. The title caught my attention. I am sure glad that I bought the book because it really gives you some helpful advice about getting the most out of your day. For example, we all know about writing to do lists. But this book takes that idea a step further and tells you to actually schedule the time that you will be doing the tasks and to schedule the time that you will finish the tasks. I found that just by following this one piece of advice I was able to get more things done from my to do list. That's because work tends to expand if you don't have any idea how long it will take to get something done.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only Use for Tips
If you've never read any other book on organization, time management, or efficiency, do NOT get this one. The author provides many useful tips, but not a "system."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars About the Book- from the Publisher and Editorial Reviews...
Corporate Coach
4-0 out of 5 stars Management is not a place for a dictator.
The Corporate Coach is a good book for all would-be and new managers. The book reinforces the idea that a manager is not so much a boss as a supporter of his employees. Every company should hope that each manager understands he has employees entrusted to him and he must be able to maximize their effectiveness. To do this, the manager must be able to be a supporter, a cheerleader and a corrector of problems in an atmosphere that is positive. The Corporate Coach explains all of this from the know-how of someone who has done it and proven it's success. I give it to all my new managers to read.

5-0 out of 5 stars A "how-to" on building a customer oriented team.
This book focuses on serving customers asthe customer wants to be served not as the service provider wants to serve. The "Coach's Checklists" at the end of each chapter are each worth the price of thebook. This book drives home the point that the ONLY difference between abusiness and sports team is the field they play on. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Mainly for people considering/using the OTCI
(This review uses UK spelling and punctuation).
5-0 out of 5 stars A real eye-opener!
The authors approach organizations from a deep understandingof personality and archetype. Awareness of the existance of these dynamics is the first step toward a healthy, whole organization. The carefully laid out description of Jung's work, complete with diagrams, gives any reader a basic understanding of the complexity of this dimension. The book is full of examples from known companies, as the authors explain some of the more common impediments to an energized and whole organization. These authors share stories from their work to give insight into the mapping process. The assessment tools and questions mentioned in Part II of the book provide a framework for moving the organization from "stuck" to "incredible." They offer an honest and spiritual approach to consulting that would "ring true" in any setting. Excellent for those who really want to bring about change within the organization. The benefits to customers and staff will come as a natural response to health and wholeness of the organization. ... Overall the book contains good information. However... at times the definitions are ridiculously and unnessisarily long-winded... most of the content is common sense-- wait...so you are telling me I should be ethical?... wait...people of different cultures are...different? Wha?! no way!!
5-0 out of 5 stars it is the best book on the market
I found it to be well organized, beginning with the individual, then bringing in the group process, and ending with the total organization aspect. Points are brought forth in a dynamic manner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Do situations create leaders or do leaders create situations?
Personality and the Fate of Organizations by Robert Hogan, Ph.D., is a small book with a big message: the personalities of leaders have a dramatic role in the course of human affairs. While the average person might find this an obvious conclusion, academics and researchers have debated one question contentiously: Are leaders more-or-less average people who "rise to the occasion" or is their personality a unique factor in the outcome of their leadership?. Hogan is the author of the Hogan Personality Inventory, one of the few personality tests written and validated for the workplace. He comes down firmly on the side of personality as a key factor in the outcome of an individual's leadership.

that completely changes your life. This is one of those books.Writing from the heart, Rose probes our society's categorizations of work and the intellect it takes to do all kinds of work.It is deep, powerful and thought-provoking.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Seminal Book on Blue Collar Work
This book forces you to look at things in a new light. When you hire someone to do some work around the house, cut your hair, or bring food to you in a restaurant; you really don't want someone that's too dumb. Otherwise you house, your hair, or your food isn't right. But we have been conditioned to think that these kinds of workers do not need any brainpower.

5-0 out of 5 stars a worthy update
Has it already been twenty years since the first edition of this book came out?! When it did so, it was soon regarded as a classic. The intervening years have done nothing to diminish that assessment. Turkle has updated it to form this second edition.
4-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of an open door.
A classic in the field of human/computer interaction, it suffers a bit from its age (although I was delighted to read about the way children interacted with Merlin and Simon, given that I was a child who had interacted with both of the above). Children are so much more saturated with computers and computer technology than when the book was written, that I wonder how the observations will have changed.5-0 out of 5 stars A classic - every researcher should have read!
