Polish Your People Skills
OK, I must admit that I gave it 5 stars because I wrote it, and it's one of my favorites. The book is organized into three sections: one on creating productive relationships at work, one on dealing with difficult people (which led to Solving People Problems, also published by Amacom), and the third on dealing with difficult situations. What makes this book special is that each chapter is accompanied by a first-person interview, written completely in the interviewee's words, that addresses the topic of the chapter. The interviews are great and really bring the author's (my) ideas to life. Order it quick because the publisher just told me there are no more available.

Provokes you into thinking differently
From the first page of the book 'till the last, you'll realize that Tom Peters (In Search of Excellence) is making you think differently. Pages are printed sideways, then normally, with extremely large type, then small type. Interspersed are ideas and facts that are thought provoking and sometimes, eye-opening. That's the point. Most of the ideas are applicable to building any type of successful business.

Lead on...
As an undergraduate, I studied political science; as a graduate student, I studied history (among other things) - however, few if any of my classes ever dealt with the actual mechanics of business, despite dealing with business in a more general sense (as it would fit in the context of history and politics).I decided that it was important to learn some of the basic concepts of business administration, and the Portable MBA series by John Wiley & Sons publishers fit the bill.
Finally, the book I needed
This book is the one I would most highly recommend to people who are looking to address the many issues found in their business environment.The Tjosvolds have developed a work here which is rich in usable material, is written clearly, and does not trivialize the imporance of the issues they address. Total Safety Culture: A Concept for High Performance
This is by far, the best book on behavioral safety I have ever read. Dr. Geller has a very laid back style of writing, which is very comfortable to read and easy to understand. He outlines many psychological theories in a very comprehensible manner, and reinforces ideas with models and anecdotes from his own experiences. Required reading for me, my boss and his boss...OK my entire company!
Chuck Coonradt's principles in this book are over 33 years old, they haven't changed, and are just as applicable today. This is just one point of credibility for The Game of Work and the training program to help workers, managers, and their companies significantly increase fun, productivity, reward, profits and reduce loss.
Not as funny as Dilbert because it's serious
Ten years ago, I worked for a company which was in the midst of a culture crisis. Part of this crisis was due to the owner's insistence on managing from afar and not allowing skilled managers to make decisions based on local needs. This crisis came to a head when the owner met the author of this book on a ski - lift.
