5-0 out of 5 stars The Power Of Nice:How To Conquer The Business World With Kindness
This is a wise and meaningful book. It's full of examples where niceness makes an active difference in high pressure business envoronments. There's alot to be learned from it and, nicely, they've made it fun to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book , short and sweet
I received this book as part of a [...]. It took me about an hour and a half to read the whole book. It is a great book, very simply and succintly written. The ideas presented are some that we were always taught in school but probably failed to follow somewhere along the way. It teaches us to be good to others , even if they are our enemies, because what goes around , comes around. If you do good to others , it will come back to you. The nice cubes are especially helpful. I have noticed that I do make a conscious effort on my part every day to be good to others at work and at home even if I dont have to. It makes my day go better :)
5-0 out of 5 stars Good book, Poor cover
Stuck in LA . Flight delayed,Desperate for a short but useful book. The last book I wouldnormally pick is one with a smiley face. Glad I did. The book's Big Idea: we are all connected and when we do one nice thing it spreads and rebounds---in often very unexpected ways---to our benefit. Useful examples on howhelping supposed enemies is often good business; insightful ideas on treating today's adversaries like tomorrow's allies; unconvential tactics on moving your frames from "no" to "yes".By the time the flight was ready to board, the book read through---a lot wiser. What they say about books and their covers, so true. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A look at leadership from the inside out
If you do a search of available Amazon books on professional and technical leadership you'll find about 60,000 entries. Many of these books will focus on the qualities possessed by great leaders or the characteristics one needs to be successful.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very pragmatic, useful book - every manager should read it!
Alpha Male Syndrome is a very well written and very useful book. It breaks down the various types of alpha behavior in ways that make the information actionable - how to deal with an alpha boss or colleague, how to be a more effective alpha executive - and how to apply those lessons to improve your home life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best book every written about alpha males!
“The Alpha Male Syndrome” is an amazing book! Well-written, insightful, and real contribution to the field! Eddie and Kate have done an incredible job! As an executive and CEO Coach with publishing experience I know first hand just how difficult it is put on paper the important insights about Alpha Males and their issues in today’s corporate environment. The book certainly has the look and feel of a best seller.

4-0 out of 5 stars Clear and Concise Information You Can Use
I took a webinar based on this book and found the information presented intriguing enough to buy the book. It's a short read but filled with good, practical information. If there are certain people in your lives who rub you the wrong way, understanding how their style differs from yours could help to improve communication and make the relationship more effective and pleasant for both. This book was definitely worth reading and I've experienced benefits from it at work in a very short time.

4-0 out of 5 stars Must read for every one...
Of the several books I have studied on similar topics, this was one of the easiest to read through and apply.Although the title says People Styles at Work, it is equally applicable in personal life as well. The focus on studying behavior and inferring "style" from the same is much easier accomplished than trying to figure out the "temprament style" based on Myers Briggs.
5-0 out of 5 stars you have to read it !

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Basic Human Behavior in the Workplace
"Organizational Behavior: An Experiential Approach" has rightfully earned its reputation as a practical applied OD Classic! While traditional primary and secondary education emphasize building mental libraries of `theoretical knowledge,' Osland, Kolb, and Rubin recognize that working professionals learn through applicable experiences that address real-world challenges--thus, `an experiential approach.'I have successfully used lessons from "Organizational Behavior: An Experiential Approach" during consulting engagements in both private and public sectors, in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and in graduate business education.Consistently, through `experiential approaches' as described in "Organizational Behavior", adults learn more useful lessons from their experiences, learn what their lessons mean, learn how to generalize their learning for other applicable situations, AND apply more of their learning when they are back on the job.Experiential learning goes beyond merely increasing knowledge and actually changes individual (and organizational) behavior.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book is great.I bought it thinking that I'd use it just for my organizational behavior class and I was wrong. The group exercises will definitely come in handy in future group assignments and in the workplace.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book but not as good as her other book
This book is a fine book if you are looking for the typical book written for lazy minds. The material is good, the presentation is great. However, there is a lack of references and detail that someone really interested in the material will desire. If you like pop-culture books get this one. If you want a terrific book that appeals to your brain then get the authors other book, "Performance Management." It is exceptional.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must Have Book for all Managers, Parents & Pet Owners
I have used Bringing Out the Best in People throughout Latin America and here in the States for several years. When I have control of a client project, this book is required reading.I get groans at first from supervisors and managers, but it is amazing what happens after they read it.They come back and immediately start talking about NICs, PICs, etc.It is fun but keeps me on my toes from that point forward as they watch my every move!

The 6th edition fixes some errors in the 5th edition. Most importantly, it provides an impressive update of the literature. Excellent resource for students in I/O psychology and HR programs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding summary of the I/O psychology field
Wayne Cascio, acknowledged as a leader in the field of Industrial andOrganizational Psychology, has written an excellent overview of the field.Cascio's writing style is clear and engaging.Although written as atextbook, this book can stay on any practitioner's bookshelf as a referencework, a condensed handbook covering most of the most common topics in I/Opsychology. It assumes a graduate school level of familiarity with appliedpsychology and statistics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A 'must' for any in HR - and for employees.
SNAKES IN SUITS: WHEN PSYCHOPATHS GO TO WORK is creepy: it tells of psychopaths in the workplace and how to spot them by their destructive behavior patterns. An industrial-organizational psychologist's expertise lends authority to this survey which comes from two authors who are experts on the psychopathic personality. Their focus on how such individuals operate in the corporate world shows that the flexible, more open environment actually attracts psychopaths - and tells how they manipulate the hiring process, how they may be identified, and how they function. A 'must' for any in HR - and for employees.
1-0 out of 5 stars Best read with a high degree of skepticism...
...Hare has become a one-man cottage industry of "psychopathy"...he has written a half dozen or more mostly redundant books preaching the pyschopath gospel; he gives lectures, seminars, training courses; and -- surprise, surprise -- he even sells the tests used to diagnose psychopathy...a question that seems to fall through the cracks is whether the diagnosis actually has any scientific basis...more important practically are whether the tests he sells have any predictive value -- important because the tests are actually being used as a basis for committment in some places...interestingly, on his website he disclaims responsibility for how the tests are used -- he makes the gun but it's not his fault if someone else commits a crime with it...now he presents a book warning us that psychopaths can function perfectly normally in society...why, you might even be working with some...that's right, that guy with the "beady" eyes next to you at work might be planning to stab you in the back any minute now...DON'T let his "charm" fool you -- psychopaths are really good actors -- maybe you better get one of Hare's tests to help you...I'm sorry, although as originally conceived his concept had some value for profiling in criminal investigations he gets increasingly "goofy" as he tries to extend the concept to other areas ...at the rate he's going in a few more books you won't be able to get out of bed without stepping on a psychopath -- now you do know you might be living with one, don't you?..nah, this is "pop" psychology at its lowest and belongs in the rack at the grocery checkout waiting for "people who want to know" and not on anyone's bookshelf.

4-0 out of 5 stars A very useful book - especially when dealing with organizations
I read Without Conscience first, and then this book, and consider them to be useful complements to each other. Contrary to what another reviewer remarked - the first book is essentially a primer, and Snakes in Suits is a more advanced text dealing with the organizational environment.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good for research, but presentation lacking
I ordered this book for my class in Organizational Psychology. It would be an excellent text for students interested in conducting research in the field of organizational psychology. However, the information is not presented in a manner that makes it easy to glean major points for those interested in the application of the data to an organization. From this perspective, there are nuggets of gold, but they must be searched out and reorganized for use. Because I am interested in information pertaining to what organizations can do to improve processes, the presentation makes learning more difficult. Information on what organizations should do is scattered throughout the various sections of the text. Sumamry sections discussing how organizations can apply this information would be helpful. I would also prefer that in addition to research results the text provide example stories to illustrate these results. This would provide more interest and make it easier to assimilate the information presented. In summary, this is an excellent text from the perspective of one conducting research, but difficult to follow for those interested in applying this research to organizational management. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Good Change Management Basics

3-0 out of 5 stars Not bad -- a quick read
This is neither a great nor bad book on the subject of change management. It is written in a succinct way and is therefore a quick read.If you are reading a number of texts on the subject, you won't go wrong adding this one to the list, but make sure you read some others alongside it.It does make a number of good points (particularly about senders and receivers of messages), but the examples aren't as powerful as other texts I have read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great PowerPoint presentation
This book is essentially an expanded PowerPoint presentation, and I mean that in the best possible way. It is direct, to-the-point, practically applicable, and based on a solid change model (ADKAR). Note that it is a mere 90 pages or so of text, so it is a quick read. If you are a consultant or looking to apply change management principles tomorrow, this is the perfect book for you. The case studies are, however, laughable. One has to do with someone wanting to repave a parking lot and hasn't gotten the buy-in of all the surrounding business owners -- hardly the strategic change some of us are faced with managing. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Carrot Guys Do It Again!!!
I am a huge fan of Chester and Adrian and my hat is off to them for writing a great New York Times Bestseller.Parables are huge these days and business people love 'em.
5-0 out of 5 stars Enlightenment at Your Fingertips
Kindred spirits with the Ant and the Elephant by Vince Poscent, and Love is the Killer App by Tim Sanders, the authors provide a wake-up call to those who still haven't gotten the message that businesses perform better when individual contributions are recognized and people are made to feel that they matter. Building off of their earlier work on Managing with Carrots, the authors show why recogition and praise are the single most important factors in attracting and retaining the best people. These New York Times best selling authors, as well as two very funny, down to earth guys, establish a business case for managing with carrots, using hard economic data side by side with fable story telling wisdom to get you moving in the right direction if you aren't already on board.Whether you are an employee struggling with the emotional stressors of a work environment that leaves you feeling marginalized, and invisible, or a manager that has forgotten that employees are people too, there is a message in here that you won't want to miss. The value inside this book takes employee satisfaction to the next level, demonstrating the impact on your bottom line, when your foster a work environment that respects people.Read this book and go get your carrots!

5-0 out of 5 stars everybody in a managerial position of any kind should read this book
fantastic reading, clearly written in a jovial manner that gets the point across without confusing the reader. I urge everybody in a management position of any kind to read this book and discuss it with staff at your meetings.
