5-0 out of 5 stars The Power of Precison and the creation of genius
Although the Patterns books are old books, they explain everything in an understandable and exact way and I do mean exhaustively understandable and exact which is why I like them so much. I bought Patterns 1 in paperback and Patterns 2 in hardcover. But anyhow, showing the exactitudes and subtleties of the use of language in deep-trance hypnosis is genuinely fascinating no matter how long-winded the descriptions and stuff get. Who knows? The way he used language may have been the real beginning of "the subliminal movement". Well very interesting reading nevertheless.
5-0 out of 5 stars BANDLER AND GRINDER, NOT JUST AUTHORS
Richard Bandler and John Grinder did not just read and study Milton's method of hypnosis, they lived it day in and day out for years. They modeled it, along with Virginia Satir's therapy models, Moshe Feldenkrais movement models and others. This book is their primary work on the structure of Milton's trance inductions and his ability to create successful generative change in his patients. It is a must read for the serious student of hypnosis and a suggested read for everyone willing to work a bit to get to the good stuff.

1-0 out of 5 stars Convincing fiction
Sir Cyril Burt achieved unparalleled results in researching the effects of environment and heredity on identical twins.Only after his death did it become clear that the alleged research had never happened, that Burt lied to further what he perceived to be a greater truth.

3-0 out of 5 stars How To Avoid Dissapointment:Read This Before You Buy
Whether you will love this book...or be sadly dissapointed...depends on what you want from it.Allow me to explain:If you want to learn how to perform stage hypnosis, and are looking for someone to exaplin what to do and how to do it (an easy to follow recepie) this is NOT the book for you. Why?This book is AN ENCYCLOPEDIA, not a "How To" manual.Analogy:You go to a friend's house and feast on a delectable piece of chocolate cake. You decide it would be neat to have the ability to make such a delectable chocolate cake yourself. So you ask your friend for the recepie. How would you prefer that your friend respond:
2-0 out of 5 stars Too much.....
This book is too much, and I mean that quite literally. It's too long, too heavy and the style of hypnosis it teaches has been around too long. Slow old fashioned and labourious.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best book for beginers and advanced students of the art.
This is the ultimate book of stage hypnosis, I have to say that in the past I studied hypnosis for about 6 years but never learn anything about stage hypnosis, 1 month after reading this book I made my first show, I was very impresed by the clear and logical instruction. 6 months later (June 2005) I have the honor to be in Las Vegas in one of the latest seminars that Ormond McGill presented and my learning curve was amazing thanks to this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful insight
Wonderful insight into the healing tales of Milton Erickson. I find the narration fast paced and the situations relevant even for today.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spells of Healing
A very enjoyable read, of Erickson's healing tales. Sydney Rosen does an excellent job of intuitively analyzing his tactics, through both simplicity and precision. I think the most powerful aspect about this book, is how it aligns one's vision to that of the master healer himself. Reccomended.

5-0 out of 5 stars I couldn't have said it better
For the professional therapist there's nothing like knowing good practice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful Information!
This book is small in size but very SOLID in its IMPACT. It FEELS GOOD and it's got a GREAT LOOK through out . . . however, it sometimes makes a terribly distracting SOUND!
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent if a little wierd
Excellent book, very much in tune with Erickson. It provides an understanding of hypnosis...or whatever it is that happens.
5-0 out of 5 stars Crazy Stuff
I just couldn't stop reading this book. The authors writing is very hypnotic, I found my self drifting off while enjoying this book. He tells you the basics to NLP and Hypnosis and tells a bunch of little stories to really help you understand. I love this book, After I finished I decided I would read it all over again. I would have read it again right after I finished if time had permitted it. But I really enjoyed this book and I can't stress it enough, If you are interested in hypnosis or NLP you NEED to READ this book! IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

5-0 out of 5 stars It is what it says
I've studied hypnosis with Stepp, Bandler, and Dobson and read just about every book by Bateson, Haley, Watzlawick,Zeig, Hilgard,Rossi, and Weitzenhoffer as well as the collected works of Milton Erickson....I wish I had found this book early on. It's a great foundation book that everyone who studies and uses hypnosis as a tool should have in their library. Yapko is obviously influenced by the Erickson approach to hypnosis but this doesn't prevent him from providing the alternatives and how they might be appropriately used depending on how the client presents. If you are new to hypnosis YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK.
5-0 out of 5 stars A sweeping, accessible overview of the hypnotic process.
Rick Voit, Ph.D. Co-author: Hypnosis in Clinical Practice: Steps for Mastering Hypnotherapy. (Routledge)
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro text for Hypnosis study
This book is a great text to use for learning about hypnosis or to teach hypnosis to students. It is thorough, covering every significant issue that a typical hypnosis practitioner would deal with, and it presents a careful, balanced examination of many issues that are often misrepresented by either proponents or critics of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. The current edition (3rd) seems very well organized and conceptualized, and is pretty well updated about neuroscience correlates of hypnotic states.Yapko clearly wishes to make hypnosis a well-respected healing practice, and attempts to present hypnosis in a well-developed context that allows readers to see the many potential benefits of using hypnotic techniques as well as the possible hazards of misrepresenting or misapplying hypnosis. This is a well-researched, comprehensive, and well-rounded presentation of hypnosis which should serve many hypnosis practitioners well.It is hard to find a book on hypnosis of this quality, with most books on the topic focusing more on techniques and exalting the power of hypnosis than on addressing the many professional issues and contexts that practitioners will have to work with. The only significant fault in this book I can point out is the title, as Yapko proceeds to explain why he is not happy with the word "trance" as a descriptor for states of consciousness appearing during hypnosis.Perhaps he will decide on a new title the next time this text is updated.Meanwhile, Trancework is a book that sets a high standard for Hypnosis texts. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Pain and Hypnosis
Although there are many books on hypnosis and to a certain degree a rather long list of works on scripts for hypnotherapy, there are few good works on pain scripts. I was therefore surprised to discover Dr. Marlene E. Hunter, M.D. book entitled "Creative Scripts for Hypnotherapy."
5-0 out of 5 stars A rare jewel of a book for clinicians and other therapists
Using a wonderful array of metaphors the author outlines various strategies and mechanisms that physicians and other therapists might use to assist patients towards resolving or coping with a wide range of both physical and psychological suffering. The concept that all symptoms are psychosomatic was certainly an insight for me that has contributed enourmously to improving my own communication with patients both in and out of hypnosis. This highly practical guide effectively allows the therapist to adapt the scripts to an enourmous variety of situations.I have found the section on phobias and fears particularly helpful in treating the common needle phobia encountered in my own hospital practice. 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent read for therapists and non-therapists alike!
This is yet another excellent read by Dr. Michael Newton on past life and life between life regression. It is more a technical/reference manual for his particular form of hypnotherapy and how/why he developed the format he uses today. As I'm currently preparing to get my hypnotherapy certification I found his book extraordinarily useful and look forward to applying his techniques in my own practice.
5-0 out of 5 stars As Always a Treat for the Soul
Although this book is really intended for professionals, it was still wonderful to have another Newton book to devour.I wouldn't recommend anyone to purchase this book before they've read "Journey of Souls" and "Destiny of Souls" or you won't have a clue what he's talking about.
5-0 out of 5 stars A roadmap for healing
This book is a wonderful follow up to Michael Newton's other work and is a must read for any hypnotherapist currently working in the past life regression field. It offers clear guidelines and supports these with case studies that are filled with relevant detail. As a hypnotherapist myself this has filled me with renewed passion and dedication to explore this field further. As we work to raise our consciousness, to heal, to fill our lives with love and light, books like this one are roadmaps of insight along our way. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars General Information - Little Depth
The reviews I had read led me to expect great things.Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed. This book is "comprehensive" only in the sense that it briefly mentions many aspects of hypnosis and hypnotherapy. With regard to these mentions, however, I found it to be quite superficial. With only 176 pages prior to the Appendix, not much depth should be expected on any particular topic.3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable Modern Book, but contains errors.
This is a fairly good representation of some modern techniques of hypnotherapy, many taken from NLP.It is certainly and by no means a "comprehensive guide" however. It is actually quite a short book.I have identified several factual errors in the book, mainly in the second chapter, the historical section. There are many questionable claims in this part of the book, they are not supported by a single historical reference or quotation. There are also straightforward errors in the account of linguistic terminology contained later in the book. Nevertheless, it is an interesting read and probably worth buying. It is not a great book on the subject, nor is it anywhere near being a comprehensive one.3-0 out of 5 stars Reasonable Modern Book, but contains errors.

4-0 out of 5 stars Makes hypnosis available to everyone
This book is a very quick, easy and enjoyable read, allowing you to begin using self-hypnosis techniques almost immediately. Keeping detail to a minimum, the author explains how we have programmed ourselves to believe certain things or to act certain ways, that hypnosis is safe - you are always in control and how you can reprogram yourself. You can hypnotize yourself, in fact all hypnosis, whether or not a hypnotist is present, is self-hypnosis
4-0 out of 5 stars Simple reading
This book is simple to read and can't wait to start using one of the scripts. It kind of makes me feel like I'd like to help others too. Easy to visualize what he's saying in the book. With 35 scripts to choose from, everyone should be able to improve somewhere, somehow in their lives with this self hypnosis book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beware...it actually works
I bought this book with doubts, but the price made it an easy buy for me and a low risk.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy Basic to Advanced Techniques for the Professional
Very, very informative book. Well written and easy to follow. This book contains a step by step map of Cal Banyon's 5 Path hypnotherapy regression techniques. Beginning with the pre-talk, and right through the regression it goes on to work with forgiveness of oneself and others and also reviews parts therapy.I enjoyed it so much that I took the regression workshop with Cal Banyon later.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good place to start.
Hypnosis for Beginners was a good place to start off with learning hypnotism.Hewitt explains a little bit about the history, and what is going on in the brain when hypnosis is induced. This book is directed more towards clinical/therapy types of hypnosis, however I added my own words to make it into an entertaining night with my friends.Hewitt's induction methods are good, but it is a lot of page turning to follow his lead.Hewitt has several scripts for specific therapy, and detailed instructions on self-hypnosis, also.Overall this is a good book if you want to learn to how induce hypnosis, but it does take a little practice and creativity so your "victim" is thinking about relaxing, and not how inexperienced you are.

1-0 out of 5 stars Off the wall!
Not grounded in reality! Hard to believe and understand. This isn't modern day Hypnosis as we know it, but some kind of 'New Age' off thr wall brand!

1-0 out of 5 stars There should be a ZERO start rating!
This book is awful! What else can I say?

5-0 out of 5 stars Scripts and strategies
Allen collates both his previous volumes of collected Scripts and Strategies in Hypnotherapy together in this work. Many inductions are included and a few deepeners.Rightly, most of the work is concerned with the business of therapy itself. Many situation-specific ego-strengtheners are included, as well as sections on common issues such as pain management and anxiety. The ever-popular smoking-cessation, fear-management and weight-control receive large chapters of their own which I have found invaluable in my Central-Manchester, Wilmslow and Romiley clinics.
5-0 out of 5 stars It's to the point

5-0 out of 5 stars Self Hypnosis : Crowning Achievement
This book is utterly brilliant. I have never seen a self hypnosis book with this depth or breadth. I'm absolutely breathtaken. This is the crowning achievement in the field.
5-0 out of 5 stars A good read and a good reference book too!
The Secrets of Self-Hypnosis by Adam Eason is filled to the brim with lots of excellent facts about the nature of self-hypnosis and of how to utilise this remarkable natural attribute in day-to-day life.Adam shares principles for developing confidence, becoming slimmer, being a non-smoker, pain relief and more.If you don't currently know anything or much about self-hypnosis this book will teach you a lot - and it will do so in a readily accessible way.(And if you're buying this book as a fully-trained and qualified professional hypnotherapist I believe that you'll find that you still learn many wonderful things as well.)A good read and a good reference book too!

This book may well be a treasure of hypnotic instruction. However I feel it would be a lot better if the writers and EDITOR had bothered to proof read it.There are so many English errors in the book it makes it annoying and difficult to concentrate on the content of the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars THIS BOOK IS A TREASURE!!
I personally know Tom Silver and have always been impressed with how much information he gives whether just talking to you one on one, or in one of his seminars. He always goes the extra mile.He has done the same thing in this new book that he co-wrote with Ormond McGill. It is loaded with a lot of valuable, useful information and there is something for everyone whether you know nothing at all about hypnosis, are just starting out, or are a seasoned veteran. One could run out of ink trying to highlight all of this information. This is a book to be read over and over again and is a great reference manual.Kudos to Tom and Ormond who once again have been very generous is sharing their many combined years of knowledge. Many people try to keep things to themselves, but not these two. That's a mark of a true professional.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the most comprehensive books on self-hypnosis
This is one of the most comprehensive books on self-hypnosis - it covers many of the most-common areas of application: helping you to lose weight, quit smoking, reduce pain, etc.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for Self-Hypnosis
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist - this book is the first one on the list of books I recommend to anyone interested in self-hypnosis. I consider it one of the best books on self-hypnosis. It is very well written and it covers vast range of topics whether you desire to lose weight, stop smoking, increase self-confidence, manage pain, reduce stress or just about anything else.
5-0 out of 5 stars I agree
Having read some of the reviews for this, I must say I agree with all of them.Perhaps it is less about whether this is a 'great book' and more about who might value what it offers the most.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent! A complete guide on the topic.
6 out 5 stars Excellent! Healing the Divided Self is a necessary resource for any therapist or student ofmodern psychotherapy.I also would recommend it as a textbook for advanced psychology classes.I particularlyliked how Phillips and Frederick integrated ego-state therapy andhypnotherapy with other forms of therapy such as psychodynamic andcognitive-behavioral.Their use of case examples and sample scripts givethe reader a sense of being in the therapy process and the ability topractice and replicate steps that initially would seem overwhelming to anovice therapist. Healing the Divided Self is a complete resource -covering the topic of dissociation and integration from diagnosis, thehypnotherapeutic relationship, the stages of personality integration, transference and countertransference issues, emergencies, the use ofmedication, and spirituality and the generative self. As atherapist, myself, I have found this book invaluable, not only withpatients suffering with severe dissociative disorders, but with the"normal" range of daily disorienting experiences that split usfrom our adult achievements and confidence. Those working with lesscomplicated cases, or simply personnel issues, know that all of usdissociate somewhat under pressure, stress, loss, or simply having buttonspushed by parents and loved ones.Anyone interested in gaining a greaterunderstanding the very human experience of splitting from one's central, strong self, and how to help themselves and others, will benefit fromreading Healing the Divided Self.Read more
