4-0 out of 5 stars Remarkably Moving Book
This book is well researched and well written. As engrossing as it is disturbing, this is a must read for anyone interested in the history of lost or abandoned children. A study of personality developement as well as a case by case study of some of the most interesting and well documented cases of lost children. A must read for those interested in discovering what effect isolation or early contact with others really has.
5-0 out of 5 stars A haunting and beautiful book
This is a fantastic book, bringing together six very different case studies of wild children. It is a book about innocence and its vulnerability.Exquisitely written, Newton brings together each tale with a great deal of feeling and consideration and is a book that will stay with you long after you have read it.

1-0 out of 5 stars you'll find it used soon enough...
Despite the hip, appealing jacket and auspicious credentials of the author, this book disappoints. It feels like an academic toss-off, designed for the layperson with a fleeting interest, who will leaf through it like a magazine. To swim through the author's disjointed and often autobiographical slough to arrive at the occasional chunks of interesting stuff is simply not worthwhile. On page 9, the author describes his attitude toward his doctoral thesis (...I stayed up, slept late, frequented cafes in the long afternoons, wrote and unpublished novel and an unperformable play, watched far too many old movies, and diligently avoided my supervisor...)Replace 'supervisor' with 'lit agent', and we may have discovered Newton's approach to book writing as well. 5-0 out of 5 stars When Your Past Is Hurting Your Present
I have been searching for a Christian author that has written a book on "Forgiveness" that is balanced and non-judgmental...this book is the best I have ever come across. I truly believe the author was moved along in the Holy Spirit as she wrote much or all of this book. It comes to grips with childhood abuse, other abuse, neglect, events others may have caused harm to us and those we have caused to ourselves. The book is very Scriptural sound and can help anyone with the problem of overcoming forgiveness. It teaches "forgiveness" whether it is in the past and is now causing us problems or it is something in our adult years we need to learn how to forgive and move on or it is learning how to forgive of ourselves! If you are truly searching for a Biblical Foundational book on "Forgiveness", this is it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Never realized how much you were still hurting...now you can get over it for good.
AMAZING BOOK!!!!! We know that we are suppose to "forgive, forget and move on" but sometimes this is much easier said than done.We don't realize how much hurt we still hold onto and how much it is hurting us in many ways of our lives.Sue helps bring to the forefront what we have tried to unsuccessfully bury and helps us lay it to rest once and for all, deepening our faith and helping us realize that our life can be GREAT no matter what has happened in the past. Until we forgive and forget we cannot move on - Sue walks us through how to apply this to our personal lives. This book is a must read even if you think you have "moved on". Sue's passion and zeal for a better life is contagious.

5-0 out of 5 stars "Releasing the Past -- So Easy When You Know How"!
"W.O.W." -- "Write on Woman"!This certainly is a book in due season.Who doesn't have a past that affects them, in the present, to some degree?Sue Augustine is endearingly transparent, sharing her own past struggles as she evolves into the beautiful, strong & vibrant woman she is today. She gently draws you into own personal realm and envelopes you with caring, sharing and encouragement. It feels like Sue is right there beside you becoming your own personal strategist and helping you to implement the 21 Steps. She guides you through the pages, helping you to face past issues and, where necessary, gives permission to simply "let go". -- a very freeing and uplifting journey. This book is all-encompassing and not easily put down once started.I'll certainly recommend it hightly to others as a "must-read" and look forward to future releases with great anticipation. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Dated, but still a great read
"Brain Gender" would have been a more apropos title, but I suppose 'sex' sells, literally.
5-0 out of 5 stars Biological Strength and Weakness
Recognizing that men and women are different has never been the problem of humankind. Genetically, we were always predisposed to ascertaining the difference, by hormones, if by nothing else. What mankind does with that knowledge, and how he or she pursues the ideological ideal has been the perpetual distinction of whether mankind is strong or weak, by the actions of every individual in being confronted with that reality, just as it is in the area of race relations, ethnic relations, or in the very distinction of recognizing humans as different from plants and animals. The history written illustrates not only our internal strength of character, or its weakness, but also reveals priorities, methods, and sense of justice, including our propensity to indulge while others suffer under known facts and attitudes as well as their inclination to further explore the truths yet uncovered. To the extent that such an inquiry reveals the extent of our humanity is socially and politically everyone's business, and perhaps, everyone's obligation. The report card to date has been less than admirable for any of us, given the intellectual protocol by which we tend to measure excellence in anything else. The pretense shows and tends to reflect badly upon all of us, the few ridiculed purists, excepted, of course.

5-0 out of 5 stars People fear the truth of this book!
This book is a must-read for anyone interested in truth. However, it does not necessarily contain a pleasant truth (neither to men nor women). The amount of fear stemming from this book is not to be unexpected. It does, after all, deal with one of the most controversial subjects you can find. Just reading over the reviews here after reading the book for yourself will reveal the amount of paranoia associated with the knowledge contained.

5-0 out of 5 stars A profound and moving listening experience
Ground Zero And The Human Soul: The Search For The New Ordinary Life is an impressively presented audio collection of six conversations with Lynn Jericho and Bethene LeMahieu who discuss personal spiritual growth; the ramifications of the September 11th attacks; and various ways to chart a future that rises above fundamentalism, aggression, and greed. A profound and moving listening experience, Ground Zero And The Human Soul is narrated with confidence, reflecting a primary concern with sharing a positive vision for tomorrow. 6 cassettes, 6 hours.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ground Zero and the Human Soul
Bethene LeMahieu and Lynn Jericho have fashioned a compelling exploration of our individual humanities and the responsibilities we bear in aspiring to a viable, thriving, and compassionate world for ourselves and those who follow. A provocative delineation of the four-fold human being and the three-fold soul provides a basis for nourishing both our uniqueness and our commonality with others as we rebuild from the ruins of personal andglobal trauma to construct a new ordinary life which transcends evil through truth, beauty and goodness. The six audio tapes document the human spirit and its potential while challenging to action those who long for universal justice and peace. ... This text book is a thorough overview of the growing interdisiplinary field of environmental psychology. However, readers should not be fooled by the title. The text deals with the environment in which we as humanslive, including work and home, not complete environmentalism. All theideas can be applied to the "environment" in the sense it hascome to be known, but they do not directly relate to this growing concernover the earth's health. The text book design of this book facilitatesunderstanding and allows the reader to separate the ideas into segments inorder to avoid becoming overwhelmed.Despite the confusion created by thetitle, the book is clear and concise and a great introduction to this fieldof psychology. ... I have found this book to be a great reference for goal theory.Having been published in 1996, it provides another source for following the evolution of goal theory, after such books as Maehr and Braskamp's,"The Motivation Factor", and Locke and Latham's, "A Theoryof Goal Setting & Task Performance".The contributing authorsread like a who's who of contemporary goal setting and achievementresearch. It has been very helpful in my research, it collects into onebook current information that I spent considerable time finding one articleat a time from several journals.I'm in Sport Psychology and I haveconcluded it is a must have. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
If think that the "bribe and threaten" method of discipline (euphemistically known as 'giving consequences')might be doing harm to your relationship to your child and their development, you are right! Read this book, and learn a saner way that works. You will feel enormous relief as will your kids, and be much more effective than you ever thought possible. The book really is more about parenting than family conflict despite what the title indicates. Great in conjunction with The Anger Habit with Relationships, and stylistically an improvement over the original Anger Habit. ... Read more
