5-0 out of 5 stars significent life-transforming information
Spirit Releasement therapy gives very detailed descriptions and applications of what used to be unbelieveable concepts. Now it doesn't matter if you believe them ornot, you can use the ideas to rid traumatized people of left-over distress. One incest survivor I have counseled for years, who still felt bad and dirty, was able to let these feelings out in theform of an evil spirit which had entered her through the perpetrator. She then felt "normal", as she would have if she hadn't been abused, for the first time in 60 years. The ideas in this book can be used successfully astruths or asmetafors.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Comprehensive Book on Spirit Releasement
This book should be on the shelf of every hypnotherapist, particularly those who deal with past-life regression and spirit releasement.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very Thorough
William Baldwin writes for the novice as well as for experts in the field of hypnosis. His technique for releasing blocks and "dark" energy is greatly enhanced with actual accounts from clients in his spiritual work.As a hypnotherapist, I recommend this book to anyone in the field of hypnosis and related modalities.Thank you Dr. Baldwin for your research and thoughtful writing. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars ok
the book came in a reasonable amount of time but was not the same quality as was initially stated. It said the book was brand new but it had bent corners.

3-0 out of 5 stars Book NOT in Good condition.
Company was prompt and service was great. However, the book was listed in 'good' condition and it is not. I can ignore the writing and hilighting but it had a defect in which it was missing about 50 of it's pages. To me missing pages does not qualify as 'good' condition. These people obviously do not check the quality of thier books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Very frustrating
I am a first year Ph.D. student, and I find this book quite frustrating to read. The reading drags on and on, and I can't really remember what I read. The examples in the book are somewhat helpful, but they do not seem to fully explain the concepts very well. I hope the next edition will have a more comprehensive explanations for the concepts in the book.

1-0 out of 5 stars Cram101 should be Scam101
This book consists entirely of glossary entries on the even pages and blank note pages as the odd pages. The glossary entries appear to have been automatically computer-generated for the big words in the text, as the definitions tend to be standard dictionary definitions without consideration of any of the rich context of the Shadish et al. textbook. Many of the glossary terms are medical terms such as clinical depression, chemotherapy, spinal cord, phenylketonuria, etc., which demonstrates the mindless compilation of this outline.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very informative.......
but very boring too!Actually, that's not completely true, it's just the first few chapters that are excruciatingly boring, but once you get past all the introductory material, it's quite informative.I'm reading this right now for my graduate course in experimental design, so I most likely found the first few chapters as boring as I did because I already knew the stuff.Although some pictures would be nice, and I'm talking about more than just the illustrations that they use to...uh... "illustrate" different experimental designs, it's nice that there's not a bunch of fluff to sort through looking for the information that is actually important. It's a well written and pretty easy to comprehend must have for those of in the wacky world of experimental studies. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Simply a classic
This text is a great purchase for any student who will be designing and performing experiments as part of his or her own research. For example, a Ph.D. student in marketing who is studying consumer behavior should read this book.As a matter of fact, it would be a great "prep" book to read before showing up to a Ph.D. program (again, only if the research program will involve performing experiments).

5-0 out of 5 stars It's expensive, it must be good, right?
I have used this book as a graduate student doing social science research. The editorial reviewers got it right; Kirk emphasizes logical explanation, although computational equations are presented in tandem. The book is so expensive because it's so thick and thorough.Everything's here.Youwon't have to buy a bunch of other books.Just about everything to do withANOVA and modeling is in here.A good resource. ... Just so everyone knows, this is NOT the actual textbook. This is just a study guide.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great resource...but beware of buying used
This book provides a strong basis for Neuropsychological studies.Very easy to read and the Neuroscience Animations Disc is essential for examinations and a firmer grasp of the material. There is little emphasis, however, on the neurophysiological basis of the major Psychiatric disorders.
5-0 out of 5 stars Love this book
I borrowed the 4th ed. of this book from a friend of mine to write up a lecture on synaptic transmissions. It was the clearest, most well-written physio psych book I think I've ever seen.Usually when psychologist try to write about biology they end up doing things like describing neurons as "a fluid-filled balloon" (no joke.Actually saw that in my intro textbook), but Carlson is clear yet intelligent.I would definitely recommend this book and hope to use it in my classes in the future. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars excellent
I have taught from this book in New Zealand and America. If your students are used to being spoon fed they may rebel at its complexity -- but if they are given proper guidance it will be useful first introduction and enduringly useful text for them.If you are graduating students with degrees in psychology and they cannot comprehend this book -- then their degree is not worth the paper it is printed on.

1-0 out of 5 stars A Student Reader
This text is much too complex for even an advanced undergraduate student. I found the chapters to be poorly organized, repetitious and over emphatical on small points, and vague on many important points. For a reader who has a good deal of previous exposure to behavior psychology, this may be a good text. For the majority of readers using this as a text to obtain an undergraduate degree without an emphisis on behavior, it is not. It seems to require quite a bit of previous exposure to behaviorist theories that most readers I have encountered do not have.

3-0 out of 5 stars Damasio concludes: "I am, Therefore I think."
"Descartes' Error" begins with the classic head-injury tale of Phinaes Gage - a man who lost a large section of his brain, and lived. "Gage was no longer Gage" his friends said after the accident. Gage's soul, his identity drastically changed. This, Damasio argues, proves materialism. There is no mind/body duality; the mind and the body are one.
3-0 out of 5 stars A Biological Basis for Emotion and Logic
Damasio attempts nothing less than the quantification of the soul by identifying the likely structures of the brain -- the prefrontal lobes among others -- responsible for logic, reason, emotion and personality. He recounts several stories of patients with prefrontal damage and the peculiar symptoms they display -- then tests his theories with a number of clever experiments carried out in his lab at the University of Iowa. His conclusions are persuasive and well-thought out, and will cause you to re-evaluate much of what you THINK you know about the role of emotion in logical reasoning.
4-0 out of 5 stars Damasio: A possible pioneer
In the computer industry, there is a dictum that states that every eighteen months the power of a computer chip with double while the size and price of the chip will shrink in half.

3-0 out of 5 stars A necessary evil
Unfortunately, I found the book a necessary evil.It was a required text for my Master's program tests and measurements course, otherwise, I would have never bought and read it.It does cover a lot of material, and I did receive a good understanding of what psychological testing and assessment is all about. But the style!..It sometimes took me 4-5 attempts to read a passage and make sense out of it.Some chapters (like a Statistical Refresher) felt like the authors made their very best to make sure the readers won't understand a word. With a few exceptions of entertaining examples, the book is boring and is written in a very difficult language.
1-0 out of 5 stars a widely-used but poorly-written textbook

5-0 out of 5 stars This book explains the whole people pleasing issue
This book is about learning to be your true self. Its basically like this: if people avoid conflict as child, being told do this or else.. and be nice to your siblings, and suffered from emotional and verbal abuse growing up, you become afraid to say how you really feel, you be nice instead, going out of your way to please others. You learn not to say ok to sometimes say no and hold your ground, in fear of rejection or being hurt.Being nice to give someone something because you want to do something nice for them is different from being nice because you fear conflict with that people if you do not cave into their wishes.Even not allowing yourself to say no, reinforces this thinking pattern that you should go out of way, as if it really helps to keep people from doing your harm, or being mean to you.If you can see how each point fits together to make your thinking patterns they way you act, then you will be able to use various techniques to bring you more in line with who you really are on the inside, respecting yourself and people will see more confidence in you.People dont like people that are overly nice to them, this book helped me stand up to say no, and not worry what people might do or think, or be rejected, because I can still have life.

Editorial Review

When Irene Pepperberg, a professor at the University of Arizona, says goodnight, she typically hears the reply "Bye. I'm gonna go eat dinner. I'll see you tomorrow." Though the response itself is not unusual, the source is, for it comes from Alex, a gray parrot, Pepperberg's main research subject for the past 22 years. That parrots can talk is well known; what Pepperberg set out to study was their cognitive abilities. By teaching the bird the meaning--not just the sound--of words in order to communicate, she hoped to discover how his brain worked. She exhaustively details her fascinating results in Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent information, but ridiculously tough to read
The work that Irene Pepperberg and Alex have done is incredible, and this book would be fascinating if the "Notes" were included in the text and the references were footnoted at the end of the book or at the bottom of the page. While the use of APA style substantiates the credibiltiy of her research and increases the book's value as an intellectual property, it is difficult to find a complete sentence without multiple references cited in parentheses scattered throughout. This makes the normal "flow" of reading almost impossible, and unnecessarily compromises both enjoyment and ease of comprehension.Definitely read this book if you're interested, but keep the aspirin close for the headache you're bound to get while trying to sort out the legitimate text from the references.

3-0 out of 5 stars A bit too technical for my tastes...
Yes, the intelligence and ability of parrots to communicate concepts IS interesting. But wow! This book has far too much technical detail to keep me turning pages. I bought the book to learn abouthow Alex was trained and how he progressed through the training. But the book goes into too much detail about Pepperberg's scientific and psychological study to keep me awake. Certainly not bedtime reading. I only wish she'd written the book I wanted to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars No parrot jokes please
I can almost hear Irene Pepperberg saying that to us as she describes the significance of THE ALEX STUDIES. She herself offers a few humorous anecdotes about Alex, but for the most part there is definitely nothing funny about this book. It's written in a deliberately prosaic style for the following reasons. The very tendency for the media and general public to treat Alex as simply the "talking parrot", when in reality his vocalizations represent something much more important in terms of animal cognition and communication. Also stemming from the fact that her findings about bird cognition are so significant, Pepperberg in making her case to scientific colleagues, writes with them in mind. She is incredibly detailed in describing her experiments and the controls used. This is in order to avoid the possibility of cueing and thus comparisons to "clever Hans"; she wants to remove the possibility of persons saying the evidence is that most dreaded scientific epithet - merely "anecdotal". The book is replete with references and Pepperberg places them in the body of her text instead of as footnotes. The book is not a smooth read and only a scientist could describe it as "a delightful and easy read" as ethologist Marc Bekoff says on the cover. This is not a popular science book. But equally it takes an evoltionary biologist and ornithologist to see the "groundbreaking" significance of the book as Bernd Heinrich does. Read more

I knew I was a procrastinator but I never understood it.I feel like passages of this book are describing me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Example-Driven Approach
I have taught experimental psychology and research methods for nine years and this is my choice for experimental psych. (I use Earl Babbie's Practice of Social Research for research methods.) The presentation is to-the-point but reasonably thorough. The highlight is the section of 16 published empirical papers, some of which are annotated, some of which aren't. I think that the ability to base lectures and concepts on actual research papers is paramount for student understanding. I recommend the book highly. 1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
This is a worthless book. The examples do not coincide at all with the APA manual.Writing examples are not detailed or helpful.I had to consult three different manuals just to put together the proper APA format for a research proposal! This book is only good for giving a rough, rudimentary explanation of experimental psychology. If you want details on how to actually conduct research, go somewhere else to find it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hands-on and concise; brilliant
I've taught experimental psychology many times with many different books. This book, however, is my favorite because it focuses on work as done by practicing researchers. The content is well-thought out and is short enoughto not overwhelm the students. The two chapters of design critiques areexcellent assignments in critical thinking. Most of all, the reproduced andannotated research articles are a gift. APA style is hard for students tounderstand, so the expository style helps tremendously. I hope this booknever goes out of print. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars New Psychology Student
I was required to buy this book for a entry-level college psychology class. So far I have read about 5 chapters (experiments). Each experiment is broken down into it's own chapter, with a total of around a dozen chapters.I've enjoyed the book so far and would recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Skinner's box...or Pandora's box?
Focusing on the ten most controversial psychological experiments of the 20th century, Lauren Slater takes us on a thrill ride to litterally the cutting edges of psychological theory.

As someone who studies psychology, I enjoy watching people.A few weeks ago I was telling my boyfriend (who just took his first psychology class) about some of the rumors surrounding the famous psychologists of our day: this famous relationships researcher has fidelity problems, this obedience researcher is overly narcissistic, etc.Even if the stories are not true, they give the famous psychologist we put on a pedestal a face (or a cup of coffee to spill on himself or herself) in my mind.I told him I wished someone could write some sort of expose to see if the rumors are true.I conceded that most likely a book like that would have to be written posthumously though; who wants to be exposed as a philanderer while they are still alive?

2-0 out of 5 stars comprehensive butjumbled
This is one of the landmark Measurement books for Psychologists. It does present a relatively comprehensive treatment of the issues facing researchers when developing measures.Unfortunately, the style of writing used in the book makes it exceedingly difficult for students to extract the useful information from the chapters.Specifically, the chapters are not particularly well organized - particularly the ones with fewer equations in them - often jumping back and forth between topics rather than presenting them more systematically.Furthermore, the prose explaning concepts and equations is basically written in an overly complex and sometimes cryptic style more appropriate for mathematicians and psychologists from the 1950's than for graduate students or modern consumers.I only bought the book to augment the graduate level measurement class that I teach and despite the fact that I have a solid background in mathematics, I grown inwardly every time I have to pick up a chapter in this book and read it.

3-0 out of 5 stars get the 2nd edition
I am in a management PhD program and we have to read this book for our required class in psychometric theory. I totally agree with one of the other reviewers that almost no term is clearly defined by Nunnally and Bernstein in this 3rd edition. The book goes on and on and on talking about validity, reliability, scaling, ... without defining any single term in a concise manner. It is very frustrating!
2-0 out of 5 stars The material may be good, but it's tough to get through
I'm in a Ph.D. program, and this is the required reading for our psychometric test.I was looking on the Border's web site to find a different book to read that would cover the same material, that would not be so difficult to understand.Nunally has a nasty habit of poorly defining terms, which makes it extremely difficult to grasp what he is talking about. It's challenging enough to understand psychometric theory, let alone with a practically illegible textbook! This book needs rewriting!I've given it two stars because supposedly the book contains a lot of valuable material.Of course, this doesn't matter one whit when you can't even read the darn thing!
