5-0 out of 5 stars A must-read!
It is with great enthusiasm that I recommend How to Fail as a Therapist.Rarely, indeed, does a small book contain such large volume of relevant clinical information. It spans orientations and levels of training/experience on the therapist's side, and diagnoses/ exposure to therapy on the side of clients. As noted by the authors, as well as reviewers on the back cover, this manual is intended for therapists-in-training and for seasoned therapists alike. In this reviewer's opinion, this little book should receive a must-read place in graduate programs for clinical professionals at all levels.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superb Delivert
The book is marvelous!Comprehensive, concisely written--it is a superb resource for counselors, lay leaders, pastors, or even wounded servants.
5-0 out of 5 stars One-of-a-Kind!
As a pastor who has been in ministry for over three decades, it takes depth plus reality to capture my attention. With Soul Physicians, Dr. Kellemen combines these two traits that are all too rare today: truth and love. I first read his second volume, Spiritual Friends, and was amazed by the practical model of sustaining, healing, reconciling, and guiding; and even more amazed to learn that it has been around for 2,000 years. Where have I been? And where have seminaries been in not teaching this? That motivated me to grab hold of this theological volume. I thought maybe it would be deep but boring or shallow but sweet. Instead, it provides new insights into age-old issues that my parishioners face every day--that I face every day! Each chapter was like a devotional taught by a seasoned theologian. I didn't want to finish it. Now I'm buying it for my friends in the ministry and for the lay leaders at our church. Indispensable!

5-0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC
This book is a must have.In my 28 years of being a Christian this is by far the best book I have ever read. It is absolutely amazing. This book is like having your own personal counselor at your disposal who not only gives you understanding on how life works but gives you the tools to share these truths with others.Great tool to share with both believers and non-believers.I HIGHLY recommend this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended Counselling Supervision Model
As a full time counsellor with responsibility for supervising volunteer counsellors I find this book very helpful in forming structure for the supervision sessions. It presents a good Process Model of Counselling Supervision based on the three main aspects of supervision - educational, supportive and client centred.I have found it a very good reference for the work I do with counselling supervisees and I have learned much more about the processes involved in both counselling and in supervision.I recommend this book to anyone who is starting to deliver supervision to counsellors or other people in the helping professions and does not know where to begin. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must for the toolkit of leaders, trainers and therapists
As a consultant and counsellor / therapist I cannot underestimate the value of the use metaphor in influencing, training and learning and this book is a fantastic source for that. It goes with me everywhere. Nick has collected some wonderful, thought provoking and emotional stories that will make you think, laugh, cry and I guarantee it will affect who you might work with similarly. Not only that, but the stories are cleverly woven into an overarching story supported by opportunities to develop different perspectives through the application of two wonderful world theories. Anyone that works with others in developing learning or understanding will gain from this book. It's in my top 5!

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book in the right hands.
And *parents* are the right hands. We have to live with and support our children, and in the cases of the developmental disabled, we are talking about a lifetime.Parents get the final say because we love our children and see them in the real world daily.
1-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Information in the Wrong Hands
This book was brought to my attention by a parent of a young child with significant special needs. As the Early Childhood Coordinator responsible for making recommendations to parents, I was eager to acquire this book.I read it with many mis-givings.Yes, there are some accuracies regarding our current programming options for serving these young children. However, in my set of circumstances, this book led to a family rejecting all services for a very needy young lady. This book must be read in context with others.A balanced view needs to be presented.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading
Goodman's detailed observations of "early intervention" projects and her thoughtful and historically-informed analysis suggest powerfully that the current policy of trying to accelerate "delayed"children in order to keep up with their non-disabled peers, in fact prevents them from learning and exploring at their ownpace. She painstakingly documents the way in which unrealistic expectationsand demands lead to a situation in which almost continual prompting, directing, "cheating" on behalf of children, and evenstraightfoward physical manipulation are used to get children to "gothrough the motions" of a "normal" schedule, regardless oftheir incomprehension or lack of interest in it. A subtle, restrained bookwhich quietly demolishes educational orthodoxy on this topic. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Thinking in Education
"Critical thinking" has become an educational buzzword with many diverse and sometimes conflicting definitions and teaching approaches. Educators - at all levels - need to understand definitions of "critical thinking" that clearly indicate just what critical thinking is, what a significant improvement of thinking is, how its improvement can be made operational, and how critical thinking can be effectively taught. Mathew Lipman's second edition of Thinking in Education proposes constructive and creative guidance without pretending to be the final definitive word on this complex and challenging matter.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book breaks coaching out of the formula!
I love this book because instead of putting coaching into a series of formulas and canned techniques, Doug presents a holistic approach to coaching as a unique human interaction. The seven coaching roles he describes are useful and practical without being prescriptive, and the exercises really invite you to understand and know yourself as a canvas upon which the coaching conversation can happen.5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful and Practical Guide
Doug has provided a clear and integrated model to assist people in understanding and applying some of the important skills in mindfulness and coaching. As a Global Executive Coach and mindfulness practitioner, I believe that executives from diverse backgrounds who are concerned with people development will find The Mindful Coach an insightful and practical guide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Coaching as a True Profession
Silsbee's writings challenge any coach to take his or her work to a whole new level. His system is profoundly ethical and personally demanding, ensuring gain for both the coach and the client. The more "coaching" rises to this level, the more honesty there will be in coaching as a true profession...and the more businesses would likely search for coaches skilled in Silsbee's methods. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BAD PREP BOOK COMPARE TO OTHERS
Buy the 5 steps to 5 AP psych book, this book sucked, just like the other Barrons text. This book is vague and boring, the 5 steps book would guarantee you a pass if you read it through.

5-0 out of 5 stars .
This book is the only reason that I got a 5 on the exam. The psych teacher that taught us that year absolutely sucked - gave us no prep for the exam at all. I took my time to memorize the whole book and the multiple choice part was all very easy to answer. This book even covered information that I didn't know from the class - and they appeared in the exam. Great book, absolutely recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for the test.
This study guide was very helpful in studying for the AP test and also studying for class tests and discussions. There was some material in there that we did not cover in class and it provided a more in-depth coverage on the themes. I will probably use this book in the future for a reference for future studies that may not be in the class book. Well written, organized, and over all prepared me for the test and all the other tests in the class. It was also very helpful to be able to write notes and etc in the book, until in the text book in class. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best on this topic!
Before being critical, I must say this book is not only one of the best on this topic, but it's also written in a highly entertaining manner (especially the cartoons...but then of course visual learners are going to love them!).The only way this book (and the field of study in this area) could be better would be if more of those of people it is written about would be involved in this type of career.I feel sorry for the struggles that people like Linda Silverman undergo to gain the knowledge written in such books as this, but then those delays in research could be avoided better if experts humbly accepted some assistence from those whom they write about and let them share in the benefits financially.
5-0 out of 5 stars wonderful
An excellent book that really helps you understand and deal with your visual spatial learner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Upside Down Brilliance: The Visual Spatial Learner

3-0 out of 5 stars Do not buy until you have read the APA ethics code online for free
I'm not going to say that this book is a waste of time. If you are taking an ethics course and want something in writing to cite from, this is certainly a good book for that. My advice is: Do not buy until you have read the APA ethics code online for free. The APA puts its ethics code online for free, just type in 'APA ethics' into google. You will get a much better and concise description for 100% free. This book is not a manual, but rather, as a commentary of a guide of APA ethics. I gave it three stars because it is not neccessary to function as a Clinician - it is more like an supplemental guide for learning ethics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must reading for anyone who treats others for a living!
Knapp and VandeCreek achieved something almost impossible in the field of ethics instruction. They wrote a book that was informative and interesting to read! Ethics has long been a fascinating intellectual topic; however, it has rarely been a good read. With an informal and clear style and great examples it is enjoyable as well as an important book. I was pleased at the orientation- "A Positive Approach." Unfortunately too many use "ethics" with a punitive super ego. This book however shows us how we can stay out of trouble, not harm and be better at what we do. It is valuable for all in the helping professions. ... Read more
