5-0 out of 5 stars AWESOME
I aced my test by over 40 points, what can I say????This book worked wonders!I read through it once and then made flashcards in the week before the test on things I did not know the first time I read through it.The author does a great job of covering everything! This is all you need to ace your test!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars This Study Guide is Awesome...
I just the test on October 6th for the first time since graduating this year.I studied this book a week before I took the NCE and passed. Before studying this book I used audio CDs which were offered by NCE but was not all that helpful like this book. This book really helped me out and the way the information is presented in this book is really helpful when taking the actual test.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful. I passed the Exam...
I passed the counselor's exam by studying primarily the information in this book. Of course, you will need to refer back to some of your school books but this is a very helpful book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro to Neurofeedback
This is the latest book on neurofeedback and reports the state of the art as of 2005. The author takes the basic protocols used by the majority of the field and then integrates qEEG, one of the fastest growing approaches to neurofeedback. Another reviewer calls qEEG "outdated."This is an outrageous, misleading statement, at best. qEEG IS controversial and not all practitioners use it. My own opinion on qEEG is that it is very often useful and sometimes essential, partifcularly for traumatic brain injury, as the book states, but not always necessary. I also believe that non-qEEG approaches can be very effective. But suggesting that qEEG outdated is, just plain wrong.
4-0 out of 5 stars OK from an historical point of view
The book is well done, clear and a comprehensive introduction to neurofeedback. I enjoyed reading (studying) it. I must say I mostly appreciated it from an historical point of view though. It describes the old way of doing neurofeedback -- still much in use -- and for instance doesn't mention that qEEG as a basis for neurofeedback has been outdated for several years now. Unfortunately there are no books detailing the more recent neurofeedback tools...

4-0 out of 5 stars Good intro book
Excellent overview of a field that is growing. I started out in biofeedback but had been out of it for 20 years. Went to a workshop reviewing the latest in QEEG and neurofeedback, so I wanted to learn more. This book has given me a good sense of what I will need to do to get back into this area of treatment and analysis. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!Wish I had bought it months ago.
I wish I had this book when I was doing my final core class preparing my prospectus.I had it on my 'wish list'.It would have made things much easier if I had obtained it earlier.I read it one sitting.Written in layman's terms. The best book out of several that I have bought to prepare for my dissertation.Highly recommend this as the one to obtain! You will find it valuable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Guide
This book is providing me with excellent guidance throughout my dissertation process. Honestly, it has even been more helpful than my advisor. As many doctoral students do, I keep odd hours while writing, often getting my best ideas in the middle of the night. It is great to be able to access my handy advisor 24/7, meaning that my ideas have been easily acted upon no matter what time of day or night I think of them. A bit pricey, but well worth it for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Clear
This is an outstanding guide for the dissertation process. I have consulted several other similar works on how to write a dissertation but this is the one I have relied on the most because it is comprehensive and very easy to follow. The entire text can be read in a few hours for a very good over view of the process. Then it becomes a very handy "survival" life line when problems come up. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful Resource
I'm starting my senior year of undergrad and I've been making huge efforts to try to find a grad school program with a professor with similar research interests. Thus far, it's been very labor-intensive.However, I just bought this guide and it's incredibly helpful. Not only does it go through the process of how to apply, have a successful interview, etc, but it also breaks down schools by program.
3-0 out of 5 stars Good resource but same as previous edition
Yep, I wasted $15 on this. If you haven't got a previous edition, then this is an OUTSTANDING resource for those interested in pursuing clinical psyc in grad school. If you do have a previous edition, do not buy - especially if you have the 2004-2005 edition. There is nothing substantially different as far as I can tell. ... Read more

Editorial Review

How would a musical genius like Mozart have performed on the SAT or GRE? Well enough to go to an Ivy League? Difficult to say, of course, but thank goodness Howard Gardner thought to ask the question: Can every sort of intelligence be measured with the tools we've been using for the past century and more? 5-0 out of 5 stars Excelent overview of Gardner ideas
If you haven't read already Gardner this is a great overview of his ideas and discussions around them.If you have read them this is a superb synthesis plus an update of arguments, pros and cons. The two new intelligences added here(spiritual, and naturalistic)enhance his theory greatly. The analysis of diferences between creativity and intelligence, and between leadership and intelligence are just superb.Highly recommended.

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting read
Howard Gardner offers thought provoking questions in relation to intelligence and how test that measures this factor may not be adequate.
5-0 out of 5 stars Many Intelligences Enabe Us to Work Smarter not Harder
Twenty-one (21) years ago, a Harvard University developmental psychologist, Howard Gardner, wrote quite an interesting book called "Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences".He thought that he was writing the book to enlighten, in the main, conventional psychologists, not state-funded public school educators such as classroom teachers and school administrators. In that book, he suggested a novel notion: that the psychological construct 'intelligence' should be formally measured in many more cognitive avenues than simply through dry statistical analytical lenses of widely accepted logical/linguistic IQ-type formalized tests, tests standardized for most schooling systems.More precisely, he questioned the mainstream belief that human beings throughout the world could have only a single 'mode of representation' about life; instead, he suggested that a more pluralistic viewpoint for measuring cerebral capacities ought be addressed -- a variety of intelligent ways of thinking.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great motivational text
I read this before beginning my own dissertation, and have recommended it to many others. The primary value I got from it was as a motivator to get started - often one of the most difficult steps in writing a dissertation. The information contained in this book will not replace a good mentor, but can be a supplement to a mediocre one.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good guide
This is great for some helpful overall tips and such. It WILL NOT tell you anything that a good adviser/mentor doesn't already know!

3-0 out of 5 stars For those considering PhD process
A book for the student considering doctoral degree and who does not understand the process. Not very helpful for those who are understand process but would like an indepth reference showing the differences between abstracts, conclusions, etc.; qualitative vs. quantitative research papers. Also, updates from authors such as Huth would be more helpful, as well as from Journal editors. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It worked for me...
A wonderful step-by-step guide for any potential, doctoral candidate. What I found most helpful was the review of "interview questions that you will most likely be asked"/"questions you should ask."In my doctoral interviews, I WAS asked approximately 3/4 of the questions that were indicated in this section. And as the book states, going into an interview without questions of your own is the kiss of death!More important are the details/process that most of us give little attention to (e.g. how to reject an offer of acceptance graciously, timelines, etc.).

5-0 out of 5 stars Really helpful and covers everything!
This book is a really great addition to any students collection of resources for getting into graduate school (even if it is the only one you buy).True, much of the information can be obtained from other sources (such as websites), but it is ALL there, well organized in one little book!I would recommend using multiple sources in your search for the best way to get into whatever program you are applying for, but this book should probably be included.Has great explanations of all types of issues you might confront when looking at applying tograduate school.Great advice and timelines for the undergraduate years, whether you are a freshman or a senior starting to think about graduate school (but start early if you can).
4-0 out of 5 stars A good resource
This book is indisputably a great resource. However, I felt that too much basic, basic information was included. A good deal of the book is information that an undergrad student in PSYC should already know...especially if he/she is truly to be prepared for grad-level work. Weeding out those things, there were some great insights and data. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars great resource
I have looked at several editions of this book over the past few years and am always impressed by the amount of information it provides. This book does a great job of providing information on universities by state and by focus of study. It gives plenty of information to help potential graduate students make more informed choices. My only complaint is a small one. I would prefer if they added a way to look up specific degrees. Right now you have to look up each school to see the degrees or look it up by focus. If you wanted to earn an EdD for example, you would have to look through every school or subject listed. Not a big deal, but my only suggestion for improving this great book.
