5-0 out of 5 stars A must have!
I read Kaufman's book in a graduate class on assessment and intelligence testing. I still refer to it whenever I have unusual test scores with a WISC-III. It explains in a comprehensive and clear manner how a competent psychologist should interpret the WISC-III. It is worth every penny.

5-0 out of 5 stars Kaufman does it again!
Nicely done! A good follow-up to his WISC-R book, this is an enjoyable, in-depth look at something most psychologists don't know enough about.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Seminal Work
If you want to understand narrative psychology in a developmental framework here is where to start. It is not overly technical, which is actually a bit of a drawback for those of us who would like more background and theory. But, it is an excellent intruduction to the field, very readable, and many people cite McAdams in their subsequent reserach (which I certainly will be doing). ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative!Great read for a chronic problem today!
I purchased this book to help me understand a family member's issues with not knowing her father. It really gave me much needed insight on how this dilema impacts children.I have several other children in my family who will benefit from the knowledge I have gained from this book as they too begin to question the issue of their father's absence from their lives. It's a big issue in our country and couples should truly realize the effects not having a father present in their lives will have on children and make sure both partners are truly commited to a child long before conception.

5-0 out of 5 stars empowering guide to living well in spite of father loss issues
If you're wondering why you settle for dead end relationships, alienate loved ones, or just have trouble relating in general, this book is for you. It provided me with the facts and explanations of behavior that a year of therapy had barely touched on. It also reads very well. Truly an empowering guide to living well in spite of father loss issues.

3-0 out of 5 stars It started out good....
At first I was amazed at the accuracy to which the author's own experience mirrored mine.I had wondered for a long time about why my personal relationships were as difficult as they were. This book did explain a lot of feelings I had and things I had done.Unfortunately, it didn't seem to offer any solution.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Most Classical theory of Sex
It's not first book on sex in the world you know. But Considered the esseys in this book published in 1920s, it's so shocked and execellent.Freud extend his own typical attitude on sex. At first, he seems to believe that the original reason of all mental diseaseis on Libido or sexualdrive. it's same with his other articles like [The interpretation of Dream]and so on. The content of this book is composed of so many esseysdifferent from the "real" title of Book [three essays...].Hestudied from fetishism to sex life of children variously. And continuedto...anal eroticism, sexual desire of women and children...Even Most ofpeople recently think children and women(especially young girl) have apassive sexual drive or no desire. But Freud thought the start of Sexuldesire from infant period. So called Oedipus Complex! you know. Babies'Oedipus Complex formed by jealousy on their fathers. Babies want to killtheir father then have [or have intercourse?] their moms according to theory of Freud. And this failed desire make growing persons sick(of course mental disease). These disease or symptoms divided variously e.g Fetishism, Paranoia,Hysteria... In conclusion, i hope you should choose this one if you wannaget deeper knowledge about origin of YOUR Sexual desire!Humm... mail tome if there comments. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A very easy way to be introducted to this concept
This is a book that is very easy to read and introduces a western person to concepts of Budism without the religious part.It is a great way to learn concepts that are helpful in daily life.It can help a person to be more focused and effective in life by being mindful. This is a must read.He also has CDs or Tapes for meditation which are very easy to learn to meditate from.It is not religious either. It is just focusing on your breath. This is budism that can be incorporated into the life of anyone of any faith because it is just the concepts and not the religious aspects, but after learning these things one might want to explore more into a faith that creates such wonderful things.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Thoughtful and Comforting Book
"The death of a loved one is, for most of us, the most profound emotional experience we will ever have to endure," writes Carol Staudacher in her book, A Time To Grieve. My dad died in 2001 and my brother died in 2002, and I was overwhelmed with grief.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Time to Grieve
One of the best of this genre -- may be read a page at a time, which is very helpful for grievers who are struggling with focus and concentration in the early days.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very good and helpful book
I was searching for a book to help a friend of mine whose husband died suddenly. I am one of those skeptics of self-help books in grief counselling; many seem to offer little useful advice, suggest 'recipe-like' interventions or even drift to patronizing. Then I came across "A Time to Grieve: Meditations for Healing After the Death of a Loved One". A short reading had me order two copies for good friends of mine going through a very tough time in their lives. Even though logically one knows one is not alone in losing a loved one, it means little when you yourself are suffering the pain of loss. This book gives thoughts and feelings from people who have suffered a loss and follows the real experience with advice on how to work through the moments or hours or days and move on in the healing process. It is well written and the prose are gentle. It is a comforting book and gives one pause to think. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars For Academics.
This books is more of a research overview than anthing else, with a variety of papers written from several perspectives.A particular disappointment to me was that, rather than getting essays from the many talented Aspies out there, they got some from their parents to close the book out.It is probably more useful to psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, and the specialist working on a Ph.D. in Special Ed than any parent or newly diagnosed Aspie.
4-0 out of 5 stars Very good reference on the topic.
I agree with both reviewers already listed. This book is NOT for the casual reader and most family/ friends will find it difficult, distracting and frustrating. For the newcommer to the field there are better books out there. However this is the best I've seen for someone alreadh familiar with the disorder who wants a good review of the state of the art in 1999-2000. For the serious student however, one would want to augment the text with more up to date journal materials as new information is available. It would be great to see a new addition of this book released.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent source of material for researchers
The collection of papers in this volume are really top class. All the academic authors (there are a few snippets from parents) are very well published. The erudition shows in the breadth and depth of coverage. In such a rapidly hanginf field thisis as near as you can come to frozen slice of current thinking. Unlike many anthologies, wherein authors expound on a particular niche obsession, the bulk of articles here offer broad overviews of work. The diagnosis and symptomatology debate is well presented in a series of papers opening the book. Leaving aside the technical academic ares, most paretns will find teh sections on langauge and interventions informative but downheartening. What come across is that adoelscents AS are so heterogenous as a group that even assessing theor conversational deficits is several dozen research projects in itself. The one area of the book that I personally was a little weak on recommendations related to interventions. The emphasis here was on methodological concerns and in fact often meta-methodological concerns. It is eqaully clear that many researchers regard the possibility of remission of AS has highly improbable - to be polite about it. Be that as it may, I reflected to myself a number of times during the course of reading the book (and being part of team looking into interventions), that if a fraction of the effort expended was applied to intervention research would be make better strides? It's a moot point, but if we lose hope we better close down science. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Not the revelation I had hoped for
If you're participating in the Mankind Project New Warrior Training, it is likely that this book was recommended to you. I found the basic premise of the book (i.e. Bly's introduction of the concept of the human shadow and the long bag we drag behind us) to be very solid and prescient. However, I felt that overall the book tended to be rather rambling and sometimes even incoherent, as if Bly was trying to identify a close relationship between subjects and concepts that had little or nothing to do with each other. I especially felt that the poetry discussed in the book failed to contribute anything to the subject matter. Now it could very well be that I simply missed the point; I do not proclaim to be an expert on poetry or the concept of the human shadow. But overall I did not fell like I gained a great deal from reading this book. I think Bly would have written a better and more helpful book had he concentrated more on the issue of the shadow and the "long bag," subjects that intrigued me greatly when I read about them here for the first time. It's a short book and doesn't take long to read, so even if you don't get as much out of it as other people might, it's still worth reading simply because, if nothing else, you won't need to devote a lot of time to it.
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to solving behavior problems
Robert Bly has done an excellent job of presenting the childhood origins of problems that plague people in their adult life. His concise and poetic writing allows for the easy understanding of what Carl Jung termed the human "shadow." This book helped me realize how the subconscious seeds ofobsessive/compulsive behavior are planted early in life. Understanding the origins of behavior is very freeing from the guilt associated with addiction and is the first step in correcting undesireable actions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Maturity
This is a great book by Robert Bly. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in living a more mature, peaceful, and accepting life. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Why You Are The Way You Are
Fascinating book that focuses on how birth order influences who you are, who you marry, the job you choose and what kind of parent you'll be. This book talks about the first born, middle, youngest and only children and gives descriptions of the strengths and weaknesses of each. Kevin talks about the first born movers and shakers and their perfectionism. The middle born ''inconsistent paradox', & the product of the pressures coming from different directions, the youngest of the family, which myself & the author is himself, 'Last borns love the Limelight', a clown yet rebellious and spoiled and some interesting facts about only children. This book tells why some different birth orders are compatible & why others arent. 'Secrets to selling to different birth orders also how to let your birth order work for you in business.
5-0 out of 5 stars Review by Irene Watson, author of "The Sitting Swing."
The best book on the market that makes sense of birth orders and the roles we play in each order.Very insightful for me.After reading Dr. Leman's book, it became more sense to me why I am the way I am.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fasinating
I bought this book to take on vacation with my extended family and pass it around at the beach for fun and conversation.I had to fight for time to read it solo, and ended up reading it cover to cover in a day or two. It was exactly right on the mark.I liked the author a lot and will definately buy his other books. If you are a first born perfectionist read this book!It has an especially good chapter on parenting first borns as well.Very fun to read, and what a bonus - it is extremely informative and useful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Hard questions & no easy answers
As with his previous books, Hollis offers more than just his considerable knowledge: he draws upon his life experience as a human being, with all of its joys and sorrows, as well as the artistic riches of our finest poets & novelists. This is no simple self-help book, with vague, homogenized talking points & feel-good aphorisms. Hollis makes it clear that some of our most pressing & urgent questions may never be fully answered; but he also makes it clear that even an incomplete journey to wholeness is vital & worth the effort. Yes, his book demands slow, careful reflective reading ... but he's here to offer us some insights about the path ahead, not to hold our hands every step of the way. For of course the path is going to be different for each one of us. If we indeed want to create a life worth living, we have to meet our guides halfway -- something we sometimes forget in a shallow, fast-paced culture which seldom challenges us & spoon-feeds us comforting junk food instead of genuine nourishment.
4-0 out of 5 stars good follow-up to "Middle Passage"
Hollis does a good job of expanding the principles from his book "Middle Passage" in this book. The "how-to" examples make this book worth the price. On a voyage to rediscovery, this somewhat somber book should be in your bag.Like other reviewers, I feel the major negative is Hollis' vocabulary, where he spends way too much time trying to impress the reader with words they will need to look up instead of keeping to the focus of the book. For those looking for introspective ways to inner growth, this one rates as a "keeper".

4-0 out of 5 stars Jungian concepts as they pertain to mid-life
In this book, Hollis focuses on Jung's concept of Individuation as it relates to the rigorous mid-life transformation of those conscious enough at that juncture in life to actually be interested in plotting a course to spiritual and psychological wholeness.

2-0 out of 5 stars God, Dreams, and Rev.; A Christian Interpretation of Dreams
I was rather disappointed by this book. Actually it is very well written and researched, but the title "...A Christian Interpretation of Dreams" is very misleading. It gives the impression that this book would address the art of interpretation and explain how to understand some of the rich symbolic language of dreams. The book elaborates in depth on the history of dream interpretation but has extremely little to offer when it comes to interpreting the symbolic language. Every time I got to a new section heading that sounded promising I was disappointed because all the writer does, is that he keeps emphasizing and illustrating that God does speak through dreams and how important it is to interpret and take them seriously, but for a book that size he offers next to nothing on how to interpret the symbolism.
5-0 out of 5 stars Theologically interesting, easily readable, very practical
This book explores the question of how God communicates with man through dreams.Kelsey reviews the history of both philosophy and theology regarding dreams and visions. He correlates the Scriptures with the sophisticated modern insights of Freud and Jung.5-0 out of 5 stars Dreams are gifts from God
A broad look at the biblical reality of God speaking through dreams.I started reading Morton Kelsey in the mid 70's after experiencing very potent dreams on the after life. What a blessing to realize that I wasn'talone, that since the beginning of time God has spoken and visited many inthis way. This book does give many answers to the questions of Godspeaking through dreams. Morton Kelsey not only gives you details onscripture but also gives us a history of lives that have been transformedby paying attention to dreams. Other author's to explore on the gift ofdreams are John Sanford and Carl Jung. ... Read more
