Very little offered in this book about what to do for the ravages of Menopause, except "take more time and use lots of LUBE".
Useful advice
This book gives practical advice for happily married couples who need to spice up their sex life. I liked this book because it focuses on sex-related issues rather than fixing troubled marriages.

Wholistic Approach to Fulfilling Sexual Relationship
I particularly liked this book because it approaches the problem of rekindling sexual fulfillment in marriage from the viewpoint of the whole person.That is, it deals with the range of mental and emotional elements which contribute to real sexual fulfillment.This permits the reader to identify the elements applicable to his or her relationship and also to recognize that remedial action may require a range of actions.

Something very different

True Life Crisis
As an Emergency Room Social Worker, this handbook has been invaluable, it offers comphrensive perspectives in everyday situations and how to handle these crisis. True life situations and hands on approaches to options that can be used with patients in crisis and some facing mortality. This handbook is one of my more invaluable tools for daily emergency room situations.

Great counseling resource!
This book offered good instructions for conducting family therapy, but it was not written for Christian counselors.This was strictly a "techniques" manual.Although the book was theologically limited because of its focus on secular counseling methods, helpful concepts were found.The strategic questions Dr. Worden asked were very insightful.However, an inexperienced therapist would have difficulty recalling questions during specific points of the session.One would have to compile these questions into notes and then refer to it during family counseling, which may inadvertently hamper the therapeutic process since the counselor is distracted with asking the "right" questions instead of understanding the family's presenting problem.Read more

A superb resource for researchers in intrinsic motivation
For anyone researching or writing in the area of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation this is an invaluable resource. The first chapter gives a detailed overview of Self-Determination Theory and its sub-theories from the theory's originators, Deci & Ryan. Subsequent chapters by a range of distinguished researchersprovide detailed literature reviews linked to theory in a variety of contexts, notably education and the workplace. This book has saved me probably hundreds of hours of searching and interpreting the research literature in this field the hard way! Although certainly an academic text, I didn't find it too dry. Most of the authors write well and their enthusiasm for the subject shines through, (although perhaps this was my impression because I feel the same way!). Highly recommended. ... Read more

Very Useful, Needs expanded definition of EC
This is an extremely well written and thorough resource for psychological professionals, management consultants and executive coaches.For psychologists, it helps you decide if EC is right for you.For others, it helps to understand what about psychology is needed to successfully provide EC.There are two basic assumptions outlined in the book which are believed by many to be limiting:One, that executive coaching is primarily a psychological service; and Two, that executive coaching is solely for the purpose of developing leaders.Executive coaching is more complex than just a psychological service.It entails the application of the principles and methods of psychology, business management, leadership, and organization development, among others, to help the executive or would-be executive improve his/her effectivness.Second, executive coaching must be provided with the greater goals of the organization at an equal level of priority to the developmental goals of the individual leader. When I was in graduate school one of my professors quoted Kurt Lewin by saying, "There is nothing as practical as a good theory."This is an apt comment in reference to Dr Peltier's new book, The Psychology of Executive Coaching: Theory and Application.Except I might expand on that to say there is nothing as practical as a number of good theories. Progressive and useful
I usually do not write reviews, but I had to say that I disagree with the previous reviewer's belief that this book was more applicable to elementary-school teachers. I am a middle school and high school teacher and believe that the techniques used in this book are just as helpful for upper-level teachers. There are even two chapters on particular concerns with adolescents. Those teachers who use the Responsive Classroom system of discipline will find that this book provides additional techniques to counsel children and aid them to become responsible citizens.

A "must have" book for every classroom teacher.

A Portrait of Gen-X
What is amazing about this book (and I am referring to the first edition) is that it describes Generation-X. This book was originally published in 1991, which means that it dealt with children who lived in the eighties. In fact when you read what the children were like in those times (I was one of them...in fact I graduated from High School the year the book was published)and then you relate it to what is written about Gen-X you find an incredible parallel. Has indeed the dominance of television in the first MTV culture (Gen-X) created a generation of people who are not able to truly utilize higher-level thinking abilities? When you compare Healy's work with what we see today it seems that Healy was indeed onto something when she originally wrote the book. Unsubstantiated and belabored.
Despite the claim of the subtitle, the author can never really tell us why children don't think and what we can do about it.Every word of this book may be true; unfortunately, very little is substantiated.If repetition and anecdote proved anything, this would be a masterpiece.As it is, the book is four times the length it needs to make the points it makes. Healy's basic premise in this book is that human minds undergo actual physical changes with external stimuli, with different kinds of learning and stimuli producing different effects. She also attempts to show that while the human mind is pretty plastic, it is not infinitely so in that some physical characteristics of the brain are more or less fixed by the time the child reaches adolescence.Read more
