5-0 out of 5 stars Gold Standard
I used this book in grad school--it is the gold standard in MMPI coverage, clinical uses, etc.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource for MMPI-2'ers.
I have used this text for my graduate class I teach on the MMPI-2.It isan excellent text. Very comprehensive. My graduate students found it veryhelpful in learning to appreciate the strengths and weaknesses of theMMPI-2.Awareness of any tests strengths/limitations is crucial to theappropriate use of all psychological tests.Learning to appropriatelyutilize this test as part of a psychological screening or battery iscritical for the training of all clinical psychologists.Graham does anexcellent job of presenting the information in a readable andunderstandable format.

5-0 out of 5 stars An updated edition to a classic guide and text to the MMPI
This is a superbly useful, updated version of his prior work on MMPI-2 interpretation. As always, Dr. Graham hits the bullseye for clinical usefulness and readability. His interpretive strategy is thorough andpragmatic. While others base their interpretative statements on clinicallore and antedotes, Dr. Graham backs up his interpretations with research. This text is a "must-have" for anyone who administers theMMPI-2--students and clinicians alike. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Detecting Lies & Deceipt
I found this book to the most informative and useful reference of all those I have read regarding the subject and techniques relating to detecting deception by means of statement analysis in it's various forms. Easy to read. Easy to understand. It will remain a guide to forensic investigators, polygraphists and the like for many years to come.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent survey of psychological literature on deception
This is an extraordinary book, a well-written and clear survey of the psychological literature on deception written by one of the leaders in the field.Extremely thorough, and although sophisticated enough for professionals it is nevertheless useful for students and non-psychologists.As a lawyer and academic who writes on psychology and the law, I found it enormously helpful in preparing an article on the admissibility of expert testimony on lie-detection techniques.Having written on the subject before, and being more adept at legal rather than psychological research, I was thrilled to find such a clear and thorough collection of sources and commentary on the myriad social science research on lie-detection, and have already used the book's index to locate and look up numerous studies with which I was previously unfamiliar.

4-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT BOOK ON THE PSYCHOLOGY OF LIE DETECTION
This book was very helpful on the psycholgy and tell tale signs of lies. One of the most informative and straight forward books that I have read on the subject.I would definitely recomend this to anyone intested inthe psycholgy aspect of lies. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Handbook of Attachment
When I ordered this book I thought there was a later version available. Online there are two versions available - this one (1999) and a later one - 2002 or 2003 or even later - I can't remember. It was confusing if the later one was available or if there is even a later one. When I submitted this question to Amazon they basically said that there was no way of determining which book would be sent to me. So it was disappointing when I received the earlier version. I wasn't about to take the time to send it back because I needed to start using it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great product but................
This is a great book. However, it is too clinical and hard to read. Very dry reading. I was looking for some practical tips to use at work. The heading "Handbook" is misleading. To me a handbook is a reference tool that I can go to and get information I can use quickly, practically and the client can understand. I think I wasted my money in this sense. But, it was my choice. Thanks.

5-0 out of 5 stars My son conquered his OCD with help from this book
After searching the internet and reading many books for information in an effort to understand the condition my son suddenly developed, many references were made to this treatment manual.Although I am only a parent, and this book is meant for therapists, I decided to purchase it anyway.Along with my son's therapist and a low dose of medication, we used the methods and suggestions in this book to overcome his OCD.The real therapy happens at home with strong family involvement and support, so parents need to fully understand what they need to do.This book clearly guides you through the exposure and response prevention therapy steps, which is the only therapy that will help someone overcome OCD.Although I found some parts to be technical, rereading them helped me understand them better.I recommend this book for motivated parents, children & adolescents who want to overcome their OCD.The therapy is hard work, but after several weeks, you will be much better!

5-0 out of 5 stars A must have treatment manual
John March is author of one of the best treatment manuals I have ever laid my eyes on. He and Mulle have laid out in very clear fashion what steps to follow in treating OCD in a child or adolescent. They add tips on what to do when problems arise and include gems of clinical knowledge that make this a must have resource for anyone treating OCD. While the book is about treating children and adolescents I have found it helped me think more clearly about doing the same type of treatment with adults. This book is directed toward the therapists who may not have a backround in cognitive behavioral treatment and explains some concepts that may seem strange to those from other backrounds. It is not written for parents but I have recomended it to them since there is little else around that explains things any where near as clearly. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Well Done
As any undergraduate student probably knows, most college courses require a textbook; many of which are so painfully long and monotonous that it's really hard to stay focused on the material being read.'Abnormal Psychology,' on the other hand, was a pleasure to read.Halgin and Whitbourne have presented this subject in a style that's informative, yet clear and concise, and above all...interesting.Included are case studies that accompany each chapter, providing helpful examples of the psychological disorders being addressed (e.g., personality disorders, eating disorders, schizophrenia, substance abuse, anxiety, depression, etc.), along with video clips in the cd-rom.In addition, the writing style itself makes for a smooth read. This book is definitely recommended for understanding abnormal psychology (and if you're a student I'd suggest the workbook too). ... 4-0 out of 5 stars So-So
I purchased the DVD and the book.I am returning the book because it does not match the content of the DVD.Instead of better explaining the exercises in the book, the DVD spends the whole second half doing a power point presentation on Energy Psychology. This book and DVD have nothing to do with each other.
5-0 out of 5 stars awesome!
I like this book and dvd very much.
5-0 out of 5 stars The best money you will ever spend
Feinstein's Energy Psychology Interactive program is the best money I have ever spent. It clearly presents the cutting-edge of energy-based psychotherapeutic interventions -- simple exercises for achieving clarity and well-being.I am a psychotherapist, specializing in energy field therapy, have had a practice for over thirteen years, and have found this program to be invaluable.I have used the exercises on myself and my family and have taught them to my clients. The interventions work wonderfully, quickly, and have spurred growth in every case. There is an amazing amount of useful information here -- from exercises to charts to research papers to articles to video clips to links -- with everything researched carefully and presented clearly. The program is brilliant and flawless and is a joy to use. This should be part of every therapist's library. ... If you are taking a class that calls for the 7th Edition, you can use the 6th edition of this book. Not much changed except that a few chapters were switched around.I used the 6th Edition in a class that used the 7th Edition and got an A.: )I'm sure everyone can think of a lot better ways to spend $90+!
4-0 out of 5 stars Foundational book for conflict resolution
Easy reading, with good examples of the various types and styles of conflict management, metaphors and escalation.Upon hearing the fate of Phil Hartman, I immediately thought of this book, and how its examples may have definately helped, as it has helped me to clarify issues in my marriage. However, the book failed to incorporate enough visual demonstrations of its "hands-on" ideas such as flowcharts or other types of process charts, thus probably causing the "visual-learner" type of audience to not be able to keep track of the "how-to" process. The book was used for a Public Conflict Resolution Ph.D course, however I would recommend it for any type of college course relating to conflict management. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars BP in children definitely exists
I didn't have to read the book to know that BP can be a correct diagnosis in children.During my childhood I had intense emotions and fluidity of thoughts.Standardized tests could not measure creativity in science -- I blew them away.History; forget it.Regardless, the same emotion and thought issues that existed throughout childhood translated to adulthood.Anger became extreme and dangerous in adulthood. This is when I extensively researched psychiatric diagnoses and discovered that BP fit me perfectly.Kay Jamisons book confirmed my research. Many years and much medication later, I'm more normal than normal people.
5-0 out of 5 stars The first resource I recommend to parents of newly dxd kids
As I was reading this book, I wondered how the authors were able to witness what was going on in my family. It was like they were flies on the wall - they described my family to a T.
4-0 out of 5 stars Bi-polar Child hard cover book review
This book was exactly as described. It was informative and yet not too medically explicit that I couldn't understand the information being explained. It also held a lot of examples from real families which was also helpful and made me feel like this wasn't just a medical book, it was a tool to help me understand that my child wasn't alone in the world which was comforting to know.

3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocre
I agree with the first reviewer--not a very useful text.More academic than anything else.I pretty much walked away with nothing from this book.Is choppy and just a compilation of various topics written by a variety of authors--it is like reading different research papers.None of the book is integrated. As the first reviewer said, a better book would have been a text written by one author with an integration of ideas.

3-0 out of 5 stars A good reference work but not a practical working text
This book is a compilation of chapters on malingering and deception by leaders in the field.Like all edited works, it suffers from disjunctions in quality and style from chapter to chapter.I was hoping for a practical manual of how to work with clients.Instead, I got a book that is solidly researched but that would appeal more to a researcher than a clinician.I would have preferred a book by a single author who synthesizes the works of leaders in the field. The content is good but one has to do a lot of work to find the clinically useful material. In addition, the concepts do NOT come alive in case examples. Finally, the print is rather tiny, so those over 40 will strain their eyes trying to read the text.
