5-0 out of 5 stars A must have for all you "abandonholics" out there!
I just wanted to comment on another reviewer's words before I give my review. The book does zero in on getting past abandonment to establish a healthy romantic relationship, but the things that made you an abandoment victim may or may NOT have had anything to do with with prior romantic situations. See more in my review that follows:

5-0 out of 5 stars Journey to Healing
This book has had a profound positive effect on my life.I went through a painful breakup just a couple of months before I happened to come upon this book in the bookstore.I was so upset about my breakup, I lost over 30 lbs, (and I was thin to begin with), was put on an anti-depression by my doctor and started seeing a Therapist 3 days a week because I was suicidal. This book truely helped me to let go and to realize that loving yourself is the path to healing. It also taught me how to take my ex off the pedestal and see my relationship for what it really was and to move on with my life. This book helped me to gain a feeling of self-worth and to truely realize that I will love again and someone will love me again, but the most important thing is to love yourself. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Living Consciously...
This is a great read for those of us pondering the field of consciousness! Many people in the "New Age" need to read this book! It offers clear, concise, and REAL information about the dynamics of living a conscious life. A big part of this book (and much of Nathaniel Branden's work) is identifying the aspects of ourselves that we deny. I also highly recommend "Honoring the Self" also written by Branden. Fabulous read !

2-0 out of 5 stars Enough Already
Branden has written many books and they all say basically the same thing:live rationally and consciously. That's it.If you've read one, you've read them all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Almost as good as Six Pillars...
Okay,so I have a bit of hero worship and father figure identification with Dr. Branden so maybe my review is not the most objective but I want to express a great deal of gratitude to him. This is a fine book and I am in my first rereading of it.I think it is one of those kind of books where there is more to reflect on with each reading and more to learn.I still think "The Six Pillars of Self Esteem" is his masterwork but well maybe it's "The Disowned Self", no wait maybe it's "The Psychology of Self Esteem". The point is, buy this book and all the others if you would like to illuminate your path.(and do the sentence stems, they make a difference) ... Read more

"A psychology book dedicated to sustainable development is comprehensible for the reason that ecological problems were created, and still are, by patterns of behaviour. Thus there is a principal question that this book aims to answer:"How can psychology help in the development of a sustainable society?"The authors demonstrate that psychology has an important role in the sense of promoting sustainable values, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviours. The contributors show us that sustainable development involves the simultaneous pursuit of economic prosperity, environmental quality, political participation, and social equity.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical at a high level.
I may have a slight different perspective on this book since I've only listened to the audio version of it.One thing you have to remember is that this book was written as a "Visionary Plan"; it is by no means an in depth, step-by-step process on how to become a millionaire. The ideas Marc discusses are intended to be practical approaches to disciplining your mind, setting goals, and realizing our full potential.Much of the book tends to focus on overcoming the negative obsticles of our own minds.
5-0 out of 5 stars Worthy of SIX Stars!!!
I am quite impressed with the easy reading of "The Millionaire Course," by Marc Allen. So many motivational books out there go on and on about religion. Allen uses some quoted bibical passages but it's not overkill. The information is truly worth millions of dollars but Allen eloquently explains that the true Millionaire mindset is of abundance and not of financial wealth. There are unhappy millionaires and happy paupers out there. You get out of life what you put into life. The books contains keys to life... some good, some not so good. There are tips on how to negotiate, how to use honesty and integrity in life and business, and how to become a success through thinking like a success. I definately recommend this book and trying some of the keys and exercises that Allen presents. The most powerful exercise is to WRITE your goals as a plan to achieving them. This book will not make you a millionaire overnight but will help you realize the only hinderance to becoming successful is YOU. Write down Goal #1: Purchase "The Millionaire Course" by Marc Allen. Goal #2: Eliminate negative thinking from my life. Goal #3: ....
5-0 out of 5 stars This Book Changed My Experience Of Plans
I love this book! I am appreciating so much how it has inspired and guided me to do something I never thought I'd like to do -- plan. His step-by-step guide to planning has opened new doors for me, and helped me attract new ideas and new projects I never would have received before. I am entirely wow-ed by the way that a heartfelt plan can attract and flow energy to something I desire. I found it very easy to adapt his ideas to my own intuitive way of thinking and being, and that is working wonders for me now.

3-0 out of 5 stars Thought Provoking if not Entirely Persuasive
Those familiar with other works by Alfie Kohn, such as "No Contest: The Case Against Competition," will know the basic tenets of his argument. Kohn has long argued that a misplaced zeal for marketplace competition has distorted the way we think about nonmarket or at least nonmonetary goods, such as education. His is a sobering counterweight to the voucher enthusiasts and market ideologues; but he fails to acknowledge that competitiveness -- relations of ranking, hierarchy -- is a deep and ineradicable aspect of human nature. Yes, competition is no cure-all; incentive programs can result in attempts to game the system and produce spurious achievement metrics. But reformers, whether in education or in business, must avail themselves to a fully panoply of techniques.

3-0 out of 5 stars Socialism
I believe the book presents a VERY socialistic view that is not in line with the realities of our modern day society. The author describes study upon study and experiment upon experiment that show people who are motivated intrinsically rather than extrinsically produce better results. This isn't a news flash to most. The real question is how some people have acquired intrinsic motivation.Kohn believes this can be achieved by refraining from giving grades to students and not rewarding employees with more pay for better performance. His alternative suggestion is for students to run classrooms in community style, working with one another.Companies should pay employees enough but should never tie performance appraisals to increased wages.Incentive pay plans and even just giving positive reinforcement are definite no-nos since they are thought to cause extrinsic motivation only. Many people are not intrinsically motivated and while I believe this type of drive could be slightly impacted by the external environment, I think much is determined by genetics and predisposition. At the least, we stand a chance of making a difference in what motivates young children, but certainly don't have enough time to change all of the adults we encounter in the workplace.Psychologists may be able to focus on people, one at a time, to make a difference in their intrinsic motivation, but Kohn doesn't really even offer an alternative to rewards for the common manager in today's workplace. If we went with Kohn's ideas everyone could get into Harvard because there would be no grades or tests and all tellers, salespeople, etc. would be paid the same amount, regardless of their successes and contributions to a company.Does anyone believe this stuff is practical??Kohn touts the opposite of just about everything that makes the United States a great place to live!If we wanted to live like this we should consider immigrating to the USSR.I'm glad I read it because it does make me think twice about concepts that I never questioned in the past, but I'm happy to pull it from our company's training library.

1-0 out of 5 stars Well, HE didn't write this book for free....
He has some useful ideas, but in most cases his solutions are not practical. Maybe people would have better luck if they could choose their own rewards?

5-0 out of 5 stars Genuine And Compelling
The Prophet's Way affirms in a very positive way that one person can make a difference -- and that miracles are at the end of your fingertips. This is not your typical new age personal re-invention story. Spiritual more than "religious", Hartmann's work shows what is really meant by the kingdom of Heaven being within, and how miracles are already all around us, if we but have the eyes to see them and the courage to bring them to life. If you're one who is inspired by the Sermon OnThe Mount, if you believe in the way of compassion and service, you will be blown away by the courageous story of Hartmann's growth in spirituality and the personal as well as world-affecting miracles that can occur when one simply takes up one's mat and follows Him. You will find a new and more pertinent understanding of what it means to be reborn.

The Deeper Journey may not be a fast read, at least for me it wasn't because I paused to reflect on some pretty significant concepts. The author provides ample support to help you understand that we are to become transparent and vulnerable in our relationships and learn how to trust the genuine article. An extremely practical guide to full engagement through the management of personal energy. The book explains in detail how to get the most of life through the choices we make.It is heaped with case studies to illustrate the dynamics of personal energy. It provides a holistic approach to getting the most of life through an awareness of physical energy, emotional energy, mental energy and spiritual energy. An easy read that will engage anyone interested in living a fuller life.

4-0 out of 5 stars Rest has had a bad rap!
This book reinforces the importance of rest. The authors speak of managing energy rather than time and eschew the benefits of taking strategic breaks all day long. When I do this, I am more productive, more energized. When I plow through a day from morning to night without a break, my ability to complete tasks lag. The Power of Full Engagement explained why this was so and gave me helpful coping strategies to manage my wavering energy levels.

Editorial Review

Why do so many seemingly successful professionals hit the wall in middle age, and decide to either radically scale back their careers or set off in an entirely new direction? Clinical psychologist Steven Berglas, a specialist in success-induced burnout, believes it stems from the "self-handicapping behavior" that baby boomers are exhibiting in record numbers as they climb the corporate ladder and find they aren't happy with what results. Terming the phenomena Supernova Burnout, Berglas defines this workplace ennui as "the constrictive effects of being branded a 'success'" and offers some advice for the psychological distress that is an increasing consequence. 5-0 out of 5 stars More common than you think ... when the adrenaline of chasing success stops working
There are countless examples of people who have worked and slaved for years in a tunnel vision quest to be top dog ... only to get there and after a while just walk out of a life they once desired like nothing else. Sometimes they say a change of heart did it ... but the psychology of success and the constant demand and expectations of others over time tips the scales to a real fear of failure. Many people prefer to go out with a bang than to fade away a has-been. An intriguing look that begs the question if success really does make one happy.

4-0 out of 5 stars When I thought I just had it
When I started reading the first few chapters, it was like the author was speaking directly to me, knowing what goes on inside my head. Actually, he even made me realize some things I never did myself. The only thing that hurt about this book is the author's writing style and his habit of using superfluous words. I mean when you have to run to a dictionary and back ten times in one chapter, it takes your mind off from the topic. The book is good if you want to understand the problem, but there aren't any real remedies inside this book. Until the very end, we were still discussing the problem and not the cure. Even in the last two chapters there are just more details about the problem yet no actual remedies.
5-0 out of 5 stars An exceptional read - insightful, clear, and well-written
Dr. Berglas has written an exceptional book that I would recommend to those who are facing workplace issues such as burnout and "Isn't there more than this?" questioning. While I believe his research is relevant for all audiences - I would highly recommend it for people in large corporate settings -as well as those in supervisory roles.Personally, I picked up the book hoping to find some answers regarding the "dead ends" and the boredom I was starting to feel at my corporate job - and I found Dr. Berglas' book to be insightful and solutions-oriented for people like me...While the book is well-researched and deals with complex issues, it is clear and concise and should be easily understandable for all audiences to grasp...If this book is calling out to you for some reason, I highly recommend you read it. ... Christina Maslach and Michael P. Leiter's groundbreaking book debunks myths about burnout and holds organizations accountable for this epidemic, which has swept the work world. The authors detail how organizations can treat and prevent burnout, and take a critical look at its deep-rooted causes, including lack of engagement and conflict between employees' values and their jobs. 5-0 out of 5 stars A book that needed to be written
When I learned about the topic of this book my first thought was, Why hasn't this been done before? With all the self-help books spilling off the book shelves and tons more queued up for publication at a staggering pace, surely someone would have already stepped up to ride the speaker circuit to decode and demystify the motivators' motivation for being and to reassure and reaffirm for us that our appetite to triumph and transcend our circumstances is, if wrong-headed, than at least totally human.
5-0 out of 5 stars An extremely useful guide
Like most people, I've always wondered whether there's some way of looking at problems - maybe just a catch phrase - that would cut through emotional tangles and make life easier. In Yes You Can!, I learned of Jonathan Black's search for the ultimate "open sesame," and I found his journey surprising, amusing, and also remarkably thought-provoking. There are no final answers here (and how could there be for what is ultimately a personal matter), but for anyone interested in the subject, this is an extremely useful guide.
5-0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK
I am among the lucky who got my hands on an advance copy of Jonathan Black's "Yes You Can!: Behind the Hype and Hustle of the Motivation Biz" -- and lucky for me that I did. Because once word spreads about this funny and informative --and insightful -- journey through the world of motivational speakers, the book will likely sell out, and then I'll have to wait for the next (inevitable) printing. Not only is Black's jaunty and smart spin through the national speaker circuit a compelling read, but it left me wondering if cultural critics have have been a little too quick to judge the passionate men and women who talk the talk for a living. After all, roaming speakers have been a part of the American fabric for centuries (William Jennings Bryan leaps to mind). So why do we label them hucksters, hustlers and snake-oils salesmen? Black has all the answers -- and much more -- in this charming and revealing book. No hard sell here -- other than to say: Buy it. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Emergenetics
Its great on theory, its demonstrate we as individual are a complex being and our profile is seasonal. The main reason I bought the book is to find out about my profile and disappointed not finding any starter or basic self help tool kit in the book other than visiting the book website and an additional payment of $100 is needed before result can be delivered to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Insightful! There would be less misunderstandings in the world if everyone knew everyone else's profile!
I found this book very interesting. It is about what the author describes as the 4 thinking attributes (Social, Conceptual, Analytical and Structural) and 3 behavioral attributes (Expressiveness, Assertivess and Flexibility), how to identify attributes in people and yourself, how you can interact with others based on others attributes, how to make better decisions and how to create and work in great teams (among other things).
4-0 out of 5 stars Practical guide to effective team managment at the work place
Despite its clumsy name, Geil Browining's Emergenetics, offers practical and pragmatic advice on how to assess one's thinking and behavioral preferences on seven useful dimensions. Analytical, Structural, Conceptual and Social cover the thinking preferences and Expressiveness, Assertiveness and Flexibility cover the behavioral preferences. Emergenetics is the practice of developing thinking and behavior profiles on hundreds of thousands of individuals, analyzing these profiles for general understanding of individuals and groups and applying them to the improvement of personal and team effectiveness. Although the book doesn't discuss how profiles are generated, there is enough material to provide useful guidance to the reader in identifying and assessing these preferences in yourself and others. ...
