4-0 out of 5 stars Best Psychology I've Read!!
Generally I don't enjoy reading books on trading psychology, or any other psych for that matter. When I purchased this, Iassumed it was a general book on trading.Boy was I wrong!!The first half of the book is very well written and caused me to take some action on my beliefs.I am not someone who is easily impressed or convinced of anything, that is what made it so enjoyable to me.The second half on trading methodology was good and there were a few usable bits of information.5-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Knowledge!
Trading offers remarkable rewards and attracts many new entrants every year. Most rookie traders are sure that there is a relatively easy route to the crock of gold at the end of the rainbow. Veteran trader John Hayden, who has traded stocks, gold and U.S. Treasuries since 1976, disabuses his readers of any such notions; there is no way to short-cut the system. The book is divided into two sections: The first offers a sort of trader's self-improvement manual and concentrates on developing the attitudes needed to be a successful trader. As in many books within the personal growth oeuvre, this advice often consists of reiterating the glaringly obvious in condescending fashion. The second half is the more technical, and will be of more interest to the novice or intermediate-level trader, to whom we [...] recommend this book for its original observations and conclusions.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the top three trading books
Of the literally hundreds of stock market books I have read, I consider this book to be one of the top three. (The other two are: 1) How I Made $2,000,000 In The Stock Market by Darvas and 2) Zen In The Markets by Toppel). The 21 Irrefutable Truths Of Trading gives insights into how our beliefs and values influence our trading and how we can alter these beliefs and values. As the author says "The trading game is played out in the six inches of space between your ears!" This is a critically important book and I am very thankful the author wrote it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I Only Give 5 Stars for One Reason
I usually don't read really "junky" books and give 3 stars for "bland" books. Most of the books I like rate 4 stars . . . BUT . . . a handful of truly life changing books deserve 5 stars. My whole criteria for 5 stars is simple, "Will you come back from reading this book a changed person? And if you do, will the lessons learned last?"
3-0 out of 5 stars Bad title and metaphor, good book
This is a significant book, mainly on account of one inspiring concept - creating an environment of grace.4-0 out of 5 stars One More Time--Character Enhances Leadership!
In this book, Bill, Bruce, and Ken remind us one more time of the highvalue we need to place on character in the personhood of our leaders.The21st century will depend on people of genuine and authentic vision, values, and significance. The 21st century will depend on the ability of people todevelop capacities and to soar with their strengths.Read more

"Iago is the dominant trance state of our planet. It influences our relationships, our sexuality, our parenting, and our attempts to relax. It permeates corporate business, international politics, and our economic system." ~Arjuna Ardagh
3-0 out of 5 stars Way too long...
I like the main premise of the book - nowadays, many people are experiencing different levels of "liberation", either spontaneously or through practice. They are translucent, meaning they are not opaque anymore. However, this is only a first step in a long process on the path. How are they different now, in what new ways are they interacting with the world?
4-0 out of 5 stars Amazing Compedium of Advanced Wisdom
Ardagh has done us a great service in bringing together the wisdom of many of the people whose ideas will rule the world in this century, if we have any future at all. 5-0 out of 5 stars The defacto source on Leadership
Based on research rather than popular opinion, this book gets down to the nuts and bolts of leadership. The models span nearly any leadership situation and frames the issues within the Leader-Follower-Situation (L-F-S) framework. The book goes into great detail on each aspect of the framework and touches on many current issues. It's by far the best book on leadership I have ever seen and it's based on research rather than opinions like most of the "feel good" leadership books out there. It covers a broad range of topics from ethics and diversity to emotional intelligence, situational leadership, and leading high-performance teams. It also goes into "dark-side" personality traits and talks about how to select the best people for a given assignment.I highly recommend it.

1-0 out of 5 stars Life is to live...
I think deep thinking people tend to be unhappy because they're not living life. They're idealizing and rationalizing life. Some of the concepts here may be good, but reading this book will leave you feeling empty, even if you agree. It's better to spend the time living your life than reading these kinds of deep books.

5-0 out of 5 stars Give this book as a present for anyone you care about
The more you read this book and go deeper into the principles of Covey the more you discover yourself and others. For many people reading Covey's book or listening to him speak literally changes their lives. This is a powerful and effective recipe for success indeed and highly recommended for people in training.
5-0 out of 5 stars All Time Classic
This book is an exceptionally well thought, intellectual work. I admire Mr. Covey for his in-depth analysis of human relationships and the new concepts he introduced like emotional bank account, paradigm shift, and writing a family mission statement. I truly believe that it is extremely important for everyone to read this book. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars !!
Mr. Rohn is truly an excellent person and an incredible inspiration. This book turned my life around!!Superb, fantastic!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars My personal favorite...and my 6 year old's!
I felt compelled to review this product after seeing some negative reviews of Mr. Rohn's CD.This is the first time I've reviewed a product of any kind. This program has changed my life.I have listened to and read scores of CD's and books over the past 15 years and this is the only one I felt like I truly needed. The principles contained therein are so fundamental that I feel like anything I investigate now is simply an addendum to what Mr. Rohn has taught me.Once I went to work on what I could change (i.e. me) my life has taken on new meaning. As Jim says, "learn to work harder on yourself than you do on your job."Along with these two CD's, which are always loaded in my car's CD changer, I like to regularly refer to the book "Secrets of the Millionaire Mind," which I keep in my nightstand. My 6 year old daughter ASKS me to play Jim when she rides in the car!I'm not sure what to think of that!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful Presentation
I have listened to many "self-help gurus", usually gleaning a good point here and there. I have listened to this presentation many times and find it very helpful, with many unique, interesting, and uplifting insights.

A master motivator who guided Notre Dame to the 1988 national college football championship, Lou Holtz knows how to win big on and off the gridiron. For business leaders, for recent college graduates struggling on their first job, or for just about anyone who wants to get ahead, Holtz devises a game plan for success: dream, believe, and achieve. "Write down everything you hope to achieve in life," Holtz writes. "Then make sure you do something every day to realize one of your dreams. You are going to encounter adversity but you will also ... take big, satisfying bites out of life."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Top notch life and success manual
Wonderful, realistic lessons about life and winning.Several memorable and hilarious jokes, a lot of valuable advice. Two jokes come immediately to mind--the one about Holtz's non-request upon leaving Notre Dame, and the one about the fire truck with bad brakes. There are many others. This book really speaks to people where they are, and because it is modern, is probably more valuable than some of the classics like Think and Grow Rich, etc.Besides, coaches just have a special way of telling it like it is.A winner.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Useful, Needs expanded definition of EC
This is an extremely well written and thorough resource for psychological professionals, management consultants and executive coaches. For psychologists, it helps you decide if EC is right for you.For others, it helps to understand what about psychology is needed to successfully provide EC.There are two basic assumptions outlined in the book which are believed by many to be limiting:One, that executive coaching is primarily a psychological service; and Two, that executive coaching is solely for the purpose of developing leaders.Executive coaching is more complex than just a psychological service. It entails the application of the principles and methods of psychology, business management, leadership, and organization development, among others, to help the executive or would-be executive improve his/her effectivness.Second, executive coaching must be provided with the greater goals of the organization at an equal level of priority to the developmental goals of the individual leader.5-0 out of 5 stars Superb guidebook for any therapist
When I was in graduate school one of my professors quoted Kurt Lewin by saying, "There is nothing as practical as a good theory."This is an apt comment in reference to Dr Peltier's new book, The Psychology of Executive Coaching: Theory and Application.Except I might expand on that to say there is nothing as practical as a number of good theories.5-0 out of 5 stars Good Book for Consultants from All Fields
I can't stop reading this book. I'm an employee relations consultant with a prestigious consulting firm and am frequently called upon to coach executives, managers, and employees eitherformally or informally. Before reading this book, my all-time favorite was "Co-active Coaching,"but now I find this book to be as important a resource.I'm thinking of including it as required reading in a masters level course I teach on human capital issues.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The book is OK
If you want basic cognitive techniques, this is a good little book. But these ways of thinking are difficult to have a big effect unless you complement it with cognitive group therapy for this disorder. My major problem with the book is it's total lack of information conserning the subconscious, since the automatic fear responses arise from that part of us. In my view, results will be better when the person combines cognitive self-help/group therapy with fitting visualization techniques. Willpower is always important, but mental imagery training helps the irrational aspects to be more easily tackled by the rational mind. A lot of intelligent people having this disorder is proof that it can be difficult to just "think it away". The negativeprogramming behind sosial anxiety lies deep in the psyche. But it's not what's going on outside the person that's a problem, it's the filter called perception, the way the person thinks about what's going on outside him, that's causing the fear. Reality and real life is mostly what happens inside of all of us. Social anxiety is a type of filter giving the person overlearned/irrational responses, like it's a push of a button. The person is not the disorder. The person is not this filter. It needs to be reprogrammed. This can be done. Rapee's book gives you part of the recipe. Personally I would recommend "Psycho-Cybernetics" by Maxwell Maltz, "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind: One of the Most Powerful Self-Help Guides Ever Written" by Joseph Murphy, and "Change Your Life in Seven Days" by Paul McKenna (currently available at Amazon.co.uk). These books give a broader understanding of how the mind works and how it can be changed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best book to overcome social anxiety
I've never left a review for a book, but after reading this really helpful book I am in debt with Mr. Rapee. This is an easy to read book, short (116 p), that goes straight to the point. I've read 5 books on social anxiety and I can say that this is the most practical one, with tips that you can start applying immediately. There are cognitive suggestions to overcome your fears, issues about exposure (what he calls reality testing), and tips about improving your social skills. But remember that this book alone won't cure you: In my case, medication, group therapy, and aerobic exercise (yoga too) are other weapons I'm using to fight sad and anxiety. Good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Lifesaver!!
My therapist assigned this book when I sought treatment for SA/SP.It was exactly what I needed to get me off the couch and back out into society.Rapee's book offers a plan that's simple and easy to follow, regardless of your educational background.Other reviewers chide the writing as 'low brow' and 'junior high grade level', but they have to remember that SA/SP isn't limited to College Graduates. This book is MUST whether your in therapy or simply looking for a self-help option for SA/SP. ... Hmm. Perhaps I was not in the correct mind set to read this. Perhaps I have read too many of this genre before and I am all maxed out - but the first half was a laborious read. Nothing snappy, notable, interesting or magnetic about the writing style, that's for sure. And instructive books DON'T have to be boring in writing style.
5-0 out of 5 stars What A Gem!
This book was written over twenty years ago, and was quite popular for a time.I guess it "fell off the radar" for a while.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Advice
I bought this book because I work with a really controlling, direspectful, condescending girl. The book gave examples of behavior types, good advice for dealing with difficult bosses, really does what all the other books do and has you take a look at yourself and your behavior too. It gives good end of section summaries, "what to do and what not to do"'s.I would write some of these things down, and I am trying to formulate a little list of things I can use in the hypnosis class I am taking.BUT, when it came right down to dealing with my toxic co-worker, I found that there are a few other books that hit the nail right on the head a little better then this one did.I guess I got the benefit of taking a look at my manager's behavior in the process, and helped me see a little bit of her stylings and ways to deal with them. She is the kind of boss who is very receptive to your wants, makes lots of promises, and never delivers. She is more focused on being everyone's friend then getting down to business.Hope this helps. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Clear look at why you should align your life
If you experience a lack of connection between what you love doing - what you are genetically and physically programmed to do - and your work, the misalignment can make you miserable. Author Michael Ray contends that life doesn't have to be that way. He guides you through some soul-searching steps to put you in touch with that one thing that really brings you joy. He calls this your "highest goal" - the quest that drives you to fulfill your purpose. He explains that you can think creatively, discover your highest goal, and steadily follow a path that leads to satisfaction, joy and meaning. We recommend this book to readers who are interested in self-help literature; Ray does a good job of explaining how to define your highest goal and get started on the path to achieving it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dont know the Author but he hit a homerun with this one
The Five Things We Cannot Change is an outstanding book that could reduce the anxiety level of the nation several points if people would read it. The title caught my interest while traveling and I really found this book refreshing and validating a few points I have felt along the way of my life. I have not read anything previously by this Author but found this book to be right on. He lays out the five things we cannot change and talks about how we might go about dealing with them and when we do, we have an adult or mature reaction to life. It is not that we dont grieve loss, but we grieve then we accept that we cannot change it and move on. His five things are right on in my opinion. The one thing he mentioned that really hit home with me was that when we do not accept that we cannot change some of these things like, life isnt fair, then we bring upon ourselves anxiety and wonder where it came from. This is an important book I believe.

5-0 out of 5 stars SO wonderful, the title almostdoesn't do it justice !
I've been on a path of personal self-discovery & healing for many years, and like many, also have a full bookcase to attest to the journey. Without exaggeration, this book rests in the top 5 of that (very) substantial number ! There are passages and practices presented by Richo that are astonishing in their beauty and ability to touch at the deepest level. Similar to Brother David's praise on the back cover, I found that I've "dog-eared" virtually every page of this beautiful book and have also bought copies for friends of all stripe and age. 5-0 out of 5 stars Soul based career development
The book is four-stage self-inquiry process by Executive Coach Maggie Craddock. Ms. Craddock's exercises comprise mind, body, and spirit in interactive exercises and follow-up action items. Her book was very helpful for me with respect to a recent career change from public relations to producing executive conferences for the pharmaceutical industry. The Authentic Career process a vital compass point in the navigation of a life-long work life.

Ms. Craddock does a brilliant job of taking us through the often painful process of finding ourselves and then bringing the best of ourselves to the workplace. The Authentic Career is about finding and living the authentic self.It brings us back to the things we might have once been told by a well-meaning friend or a self-help lecture; it makes real and fleshes out exactly what we need to do to work through core issues of our identity and find our "true bliss" in the workplace.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended! For both your work and for your personal life.
I read Full Steam Ahead! for the second time this week.I had originally purchased the book last winter because my boss wanted us to create a shared vision.Everyone in our department read the book and then we followed the process described by the authors. It has been an amazing experience for all of us.I saw my boss shift from someone who had good intentions but tended to be over-controlling and mistrustful to someone who was willing to let all us to take charge and make decisions.Because we all shared the same vision and values, we all began to trust each other more also. The atmosphere at work is, well... all I can say is I look forward to going to work each day.We have fun and are more productive than ever. The quality of our work has increased immeasurably and we get great feedback from our customers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous!
Full Steam Ahead! is the best book I've read this year.My husband and I own our own business. After both reading the book, we sat down together and created a vision for our business. It was exciting and helped us get really focused. We were then able to discuss it with our employees.Their ideas made our vision even richer. And, to our delight, created an amazing amount of energy. We are all working so much better together now.I can't say more. You need to read the book yourself and then you'll understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars Powerful, practical, useful!
Full steam ahead is a phenomenal book.It was critical to my understanding of vision.Prior to reading to this book, my understanding of vision was fuzzy at best, limited to what I know in scripture.Of vision, scripture states (Habakkuk 2:2) that we should write the vision and make it plain upon tables that he that reads it might run with it.The Hebrew word for vision, `chazown', indicates that the vision is a mental picture.Beyond that, I had never been clear on the elements of a vision, neither did I have a clear idea of how to craft a vision statement.

5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Understand
I found this book to be written in a way that is very easy to comprehend, and expresses the ideas clearly. The chapters are short and concise. This book is a great tool to use not only for classes, but to refer to in the future.

5-0 out of 5 stars You cannot go wrong...
I have a son with autism, a wife who is a psychologist and I run a home ABA program as well as helping in my son's pre-school that is instituting an ABA progam. You cannot go wrong with this book. The fact that this book is in it's 8th edition and is used by many college programs speaks to it's strengths.I did read the one dissenting review where it lowered someone's GPA because they did not understand or test well on the material.ABA is deceptive. While it is the just the science of good learning there is a lot of skill and aptitude needed.Being a member of T.O.P.S., Intertel, Mensa, the International High IQ society to name a few I can see that this is not for everyone. Some people are good at being students, some people are good at understanding and implementing good science; with ABA you need to be in the latter group. If you want a good starting/comprehensive book with a lot of meat on the bone this is the one.

3-0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but terribly REDUNDANT!
As a psychology student, I encounted this book in a behavioral modification course.I was not overly impressed by it, but it does have it's usefulness.

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful guide to recovering from being too nice
Sure, it's good to be nice, but you may be "too nice." If you are clingy, care too much what others think of you and minimize the bad personalities of the people around you, then your niceness may be hurting you. Authors James Rapson and Craig English recommend seven practices that will put you on the road to a more balanced emotional life - many of these approaches will be familiar to readers who have engaged in any sort of meditation or self-awareness exercises. Lists, sidebars and quotes make the book's ideas easily accessible - although integrating these practices into your daily life will require some work. We recommend this book to self-help beginners who are tired of having sand kicked in their faces and wish to develop their tranquility and strength of character.

5-0 out of 5 stars Anxious To Please Provides Valuable Insight
After reading Anxious to Please I had insight into some of my mother's behavior. My memories include her obsessive baking of desserts and giving them away to coworkers, neighbors, doctors, anyone she had contact with. She often couldn't pay her bills but always had money to buy the ingredients for her gifts. It is obvious now that she was one of the original "chronically nice" people. She wanted to be liked by everyone (except perhaps family members who were locked into a relationship by blood).None of these people became real friends.
5-0 out of 5 stars I wish I knew then what I know now!
Reading Anxious to Please was like having a light turned on in my life. "Wow, that's my stuff. I do those things. THAT'S ME!" The good news is, Anxious to Please helps you clean it all up with simple, practical steps anyone can follow. The book itself is easy to read and navigate through and return to again and again. What I especially liked (and found useful as illustrations) were the real-life case studies/examples that were always dead-on hitting the mark. The practices take you out of the darkness where you can see, identify, and then correct habitual behavior. And in the process, forge better and stronger relationships, both old and new. Thanks Rapson and English. ... Read more
