5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book! Food for daily thought and well worth your purchase
Vickie is amazing. Her story is amazing. She writes her book from the other side of accomplishment of fears, heartbreak, dissappointment, etc. There are great ideas to take with you on your journey of success and you should bring your highlighter so you can refer back to some great words of encouragement along your way. I have thouroughly enjoyed this book and I plan to share it with my women friends. We all can use a little push.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy to read and follow the thought process.
Milazzo explains how passion emerges and evolves and gives excellent real-life examples of women who became successful by using ideas in this book. This book is filled with excellent advice gained from experience. As Vickie says, she doesn't need a blow dryer to ride a camel and sleep in the Sahara desert. You have to love a woman who is beyond adventurous, has conquered fear and is willing to share her life and wisdom with the world. There is great advice about how to avoid distractions and a wise approach to developing daily rituals to nurture our spirits. Successful women respect the complexity of any chosen path and become students for life. The book is easy to read and follow the thought process.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Outstanding!
I have known of Vickie for several years since I had worked as a legal nurse consultant myself. For a variety of reasons, my heart just wasn't into it.I was good at it, but just didn't want to deal with the egos and power plays of attorneys.I wasn't "passionate" about legal nurse consulting.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow, this really works!
I can highly recommend this book to anyone interested in doing relationship work, or simply doing work with themselves. This book does not give you a solution to your problems, but a tool you can use to question your inner voice that has fed you deconstructive thoughts for all your life. This tool is so powerful, that you will soon feel that there is no relationship problem you can't master, doing the work. Of course you need to be willing to do the work and work it is every single time, but the results are so rewarding that you soon will almost be looking forward to another bad thought/feeling to attack you, so you can lay it at rest and know what YOU need to give to YOURSELF, in order to be happy. It's mostly the exact thing that you "think" other people are not willing to give you...

5-0 out of 5 stars Worth your time and money
I love Byron Katie, and found her CD "I Need Your Love-Is That True?" to be an excellent buy. I especially enjoyed listening to it rather than reading it and I would recommend it in this format. The kindness and compassion of Katie's approach comes through in a way that is easy to experience and recall. Her work is so simple yet profound; the cds allow the wisdom and love to be felt rather than intellectualized. All the personal examples her students have shared of the work they've achieved served to make real the kind of choices made moment by moment that create a life with more choice and more freedom. Listening to Katie do the work is inspiring and empowering as it is truly simple enough for anyone to do and apply to their relationship with another or most importantly the relationship with Self. I loved it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Today Really Does Matter!
This book is inspiring. The author explains twelve principles that he believes will improve every aspect of the reader's daily life if he or she commits to working on those principles each and every day. Of course, some of the ideas are not new - they have been included in self-help books for years. The difference in this book is that Maxwell makes it easy to understand how to implement each principle in the reader's life. It's one thing to read a self-help book and another to follow its guidance.

4-0 out of 5 stars Well-written and compelling, although with obvious biases
Andrew Newberg, professor of Radiology and Psychiatry, has written (along with Mark Robert Waldman) a sequel to his book, Why God Won't Go Away. The new book has strengths and weaknesses, but, should be of some interest to those who have an interest in spiritual matters and human behavior. The book is primarily written to address the question of how the brain works so that we arrive at what we believe to be true. The authors write from a spiritual perspective, but take numerous jabs at Christians and Christianity throughout the book. In contrast, New Age and Far Eastern religions seem to receive little or no criticism (co-author, Mr. Waldman seems to be into New Age type spirituality), and are actually endorsed. Likewise, atheists may not be entirely comfortable with the content, since it clearly challenges their cherished belief that that have no beliefs.
5-0 out of 5 stars An Astonishing Book
This fascinating book examines how human beings construct their beliefs about everything:how we map the realities of the world, build moral and political beliefs, and develop religious and spiritual beliefs about the universe. The authors base their premises on neurobiological research and then they integrate their findings with contemporary psychology and sociology without ever becoming overly technical, a difficult feat when it comes to explaining the neurological processes of the brain.

5-0 out of 5 stars A plan for change that's meant to last
It is clear--Marianne Williamson is most interested in creating miracles in this world and not just short-term gains.
4-0 out of 5 stars What a Gift!
Marianne Williamson's book, The Gift of Change, is a gift for anyone who struggles with a world that is constantly changing.Change can be a source of fear and frustration, and something to be resisted.Or, it can be an opportunity for us to discover our blocks to love, and to grow in our ability to love and forgive unconditionally.I believe that everything that happens in our lives can be a tremendous blessing -- if we choose to look at it that way. And few writers say that as eloquently, and with as much passion and conviction, as Marianne Williamson.Thank you, Marianne, for this wonderful gift!
5-0 out of 5 stars The Gift That Is Change
This is yet another incredible book from Marianne Williamson. The same author who gave us the delightful and inspiring, 'A Return To Love'.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best NLP bookfor recommended readings in training
NLP is the study of excellence and the technology of achievement and success. NLP is a wonderful model to enhance communication, personal change and personal development. The way you think affects the internal and external language and the actions you take. This in turn affects the way you behave and the reactions you get. I have used NLP techniques while trainingmeirc participants on all subjects in dubai seminars and it is certainly as defined "The difference that makes the difference". Learn it, use it and develop it, the results keep getting better and better.

5-0 out of 5 stars New Technology for the New World
Neuro Semantics has always been based on what WORKS - as established by timeless trial and error - rather than chasing the latest theory. That is what I liked about this book. It distilled the applications away from the fluff and theory. I've learned in 3 hours of reading enough methodology to give me the edge in the collective bargaining agreements I frequently facilitate.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great NLP technics !
I was totally new to this subject and found the CD to be a great way to learn and try the different proposed techniques. They have in deed helped me and I use them almost everyday. NLP is a powerful way to associate/focus on what I want and disassociate/liberate from what I don't want. I really like it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars DEFINITELY A "WORRY CURE"-- HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
The title says it all-- Robert L. Leahy's book describes a way "to stop worry from stopping you."Dr. Leahy not only provides a "worry cure," but he explains worry so that the reader may best understand WHY s/he worries. He then lists seven steps, which are easy to follow.
5-0 out of 5 stars Practical, Strategic Advice
I've been very pleased with this book. Some books tell you that you can turn your whole life around and then make it sound simple - or conversely, they imply you need to dramatically change in order to see results. This book however, frankly, really works. It is a workbook filled with real, concrete methods that you can start putting into practice right away.Worriers and those who suffer from anxiety are thinkers by nature, so we need intelligent, logical methods to persuade us; as you've probably noticed, blind faith or unfounded optimism doesn't cut it.This book gives simple, realistic instructions, which are surprisingly effective, and provides you with the tools to help yourself. As a seasoned worrier, I often have a hard time distinguishing between a "real," legitimate worry, and a concocted, overblown one. This book has a checklist of questions I can ask myself to help me determine which category my worry really belongs to.Another one of the things I've found very helpful is the author's list of "tyical cognitive distortions."Dr. Leahy obviously knows his worriers, because every single type of worry thought I've ever had is in here!Finding my thought on the list and being assured that it is indeed a fallacy, and not a true, logical thought, has helped me to let go of some of the unhealthy, even damaging thought patterns that provoke and encourage worry. This book won't solve all your problems or do the work for you.But if you get in the habit of practicing the methods, then you will find some relief.

5-0 out of 5 stars An Important Contribution To Helping Alleviate Suffering Which is (OF COURSE) endorsed by leading psychologists!
I just needed to write this review because Dr. Leahy has managed to present a comprehensive and user friendly approach to some of the most effective psychotherapy techniques ever developed. This book is based on research based methods drawn from cognitive and behavioral therapies.Period.These techniques aren't just "positive thinking," they are easy to use, significant, and proven techniques that are being put into practice by evidence based therapists the world over.OF COURSE reviews and endorsements are coming in from psychologists!! This isn't bias, this is evidence that THIS APPROACH WORKS for many, many people.I just read a review by an anonymous reader who takes pot shots at these proven techniques, claims that they don't work for him/her and generally complains in a paranoid way.Disregard such a review and stick with the facts.Research and experience shows that this approach works better than just about any other therapy approach, and is as effective or more effective than medication.Beyond that, Leahy presents it in a useful and friendly way.If that ain't enough, I don't know what is.I can't stress enough the usefulness of this book. Many top psychologists like this approach just the way many baseball experts appreciated theNew York Yankees in the 70's.It's just common sense. If you struggle with worry, The Worry Cure can be an important part of your road to further happiness. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars There's a practical way to end addiction. Who knew?
A great read for anyone who wants to reinforce that they are capable of cultivating their own, unique meaning in life. And, if you've been put off by the irrational teachings of 12 step groups, this book will help you realize that you are not crazy: You aren't powerless. You can choose what life goals to pursue -and you don't need the approval of strangers in a group or coerced faith in an ill-defined "Power Greater Than Yourself" to do so.
4-0 out of 5 stars It is easy to beat addiction in 10 days at Schick Shadel
As a former addict hooked on alcohol, I believe this book makes some valid recommendations. However, it doesn't need to be so hard to breal addiction to alcohol and many drugs.Ten days at Schick Shadel Hospital in Seattle and I, like tens of thousands of patients before me, was cured from years of slavery to alcohol. No meetings and no daily worries about wanting another drink. If you give the caring folks at Schick Shadel Hospital 10 days, they will give you back your life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
7 Tools to Beat Addiction is an excellent resource for those addicted to alcohol or other substances and want to enrich their lives while reducing or eliminating their alcohol intake.

4-0 out of 5 stars True confession
Okay, so I didn't read this book yet, but the last comment posted made me all the more likely to adopt it to use in the classroom.Christianity and humanism are not polar opposites. In fact, our own personal choices are the only things we 1) can adjust to improve our lives (psychologically speaking) and 2) can offer up as a symbol of our religious devotion (religiously speaking). As soon as I get my copy of this book, I'll read it and post another review.

4-0 out of 5 stars Psychology for Living
This book does a very good job of remaining humanistic; in that the authors believe that it is within the ability of all human beings to choose to improve themselves, and makes a lot of room for the variability of human preferences and styles. Each chapter contains a self-assessment questionaire that is fun and enlightening, which will give rise to the reader's perspectives and life experience. In contrast to most Adjustment Textbooks, this one is more applicable to real life than most.It minimized psychological theory, and maximized application to your own life!

1-0 out of 5 stars Buzzword compliant but misguided
I don't know if this is endemic with psychology in general, but I am finding this book to be incredibly humanistic in its philosophy towards making choices. Its goal is to make the student an independent decision maker who is able to meet his own needs.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars like an OPRAH show... in book form
Only Oprah would do a better job of telling us HOW our neighbors/siblings/co-workers can afford their lifestyle.I picked this book up after I read the review in Publishers Weekly. To sum up the contents, it's a compilation of stories about couples and real estate and credit card debt and the secrets we keep when it comes to how people REALLY afford that brand new minivan, the designer purse, the private school for their kids. Unfortunately there was nothing new in this book... I mean, yeah, big deal, everyone has a second mortgage these days, right? No epiphanal moments or breakthroughs into inside information and the root of envy. But the concept of this book is great and the author has done a terrific job of trying to make money talk not quite so taboo. Kudos to her for that. The subject would make a great topic for an Oprah Winfrey show.

5-0 out of 5 stars Total Truth is Titillating
My husband and I have been passing/grabbing this book back and forth; it's equally riveting for men and women. Boss is a brave soul. She relentlessly lays bare the real deal with intelligence and skill. Just when you think things couldn't get any worse, they always do. I'm shocked at our ability to delude ourselves. I'm equally shocked at myeagerness to get back to this rubbernecking. Witnessing the crash is irresistible...but take a deep breath before you plunge in.

4-0 out of 5 stars Flawed conclusions, but excellent book
This is an interesting and well-written book that really does probe the issue of why we feel the need to "keep up with the Joneses."Unlike a lot of authors, Boss delves into the psychology behind the drive, focusing on the fact that without the need to keep up with the Joneses, the American economy would collapse - that essentially as there is always one step up, just out of reach, that will someday make us "happy" (or so the advertisers would like us to believe) that we will always, no matter how much money we have, want for more. It's not a new idea, but Boss explores it well, through interviews from people who are middle class to an actual billionaire.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long time reader, first time reviewer...
I have never written an online response before, but I just finished reading this book and felt the need to speak about it.I teach high school History, and after hearing one of my friends who teaches Chemistry speak a few times about the book, I decided to buy a copy.At first, I was worried that I would not understand a thing, but I must credit Dr. Cloninger for writing in a way that has apparently appealed as much to my Chemist friend as to me.I cannot remember the last time I was so engaged while reading.I am a closet Tom Clancy fan, yet I found myself more eager to know what would come next in Feeling Good than in any of his novels I have read. This book has meant a lot to me personally, and I am confident that others will discover the same.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Refreshing Addition to Mental Health Literature
After spending some time reflecting on a statement that would do justice to this work, I realized that nothing I could say would be as well put as what I found in the following reviews:
5-0 out of 5 stars a landmark on the path of well-being
This book was exceedingly enjoyable to read.Right from the beginning, readers of Feeling Good: The Science of Well-Being are whisked away on an unprecedented philosophical and scientific oddysey.Beginning with a brief overview of philosophy, Dr. Cloninger shows how certain beliefs on the nature of being, knowledge, and conduct, which provide the basis for his science of well-being, are confirmed by current scientific thought.Examining the ideas of those that he calls "positive philosophers," Dr. Cloninger points to how modern science is beginning to validate the worldviews held by these thinkers, and suggests that what allowed them such wisdom and penetrating insight was not merely their intellectual ability, but rather their intuitive capacity.
