4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, depending on your parenting philosophy
Most baby parenting books fall into one of two categories: the old-school, "get the baby on a schedule" philosophy or the pro-co-sleeping, child-led "attachment parenting" philosophy.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Reference Guide and Helpful Resource
At first I did not use the book.I just created a routine and followed it, but now he is 4 months old and I use this book as a guide.I actually am reading it from beginning to end now.The book breaks down each chapter by situation, i.e.. routines, sleep, feedings; then within each chapter she talks about what happens at each age groups, i.e.. 0-3 months, 4-6, as so on.
1-0 out of 5 stars sad
I feel bad for the babies who are forced into what this book promotes.Nature did not intend babies to stick to such a regimented schedule, and parenthood was not intended to be so difficult and structured.I knew this book was not right when the author suggested that formula is just as good as breastmilk - this is absolutely NOT true and such unfortunate advice.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic update!
The 6th edition fixes some errors in the 5th edition. Most importantly, it provides an impressive update of the literature. Excellent resource for students in I/O psychology and HR programs.

4-0 out of 5 stars Outstanding summary of the I/O psychology field
Wayne Cascio, acknowledged as a leader in the field of Industrial andOrganizational Psychology, has written an excellent overview of the field.Cascio's writing style is clear and engaging.Although written as atextbook, this book can stay on any practitioner's bookshelf as a referencework, a condensed handbook covering most of the most common topics in I/Opsychology. It assumes a graduate school level of familiarity with appliedpsychology and statistics. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars My optimal experience
Let me brag for a moment:Before reading this book I was considered an extraordinary positive thinker.I had the knowledge and power to get what I wanted.I handled my emotions well, without a therapist.I loved and enjoyed critical thinking, life and its adventures, and had a deep spiritual life.I'm not looking for a date here, I say all this to illustrate that though I thought my life was fantastic and improving, it wasn't optimal.I didn't think optimally consistently. With an excellent college education, above-average intelligence, spiritual connection, etc., I needed to rise to another level to achieve the most out of my life. I found in this book a simple, yet multi-dimensional answer to my quandry.Consistent optimal thinking, in all facets of life, is the key. Optimal Thinking is taking me to new and, yes that word again, consistent experiences of the success I have always wanted. It is a book that is clear, concise, example-filled, and jam-packed with life-optimizing messages and instruction on how to achieve peak performance in everything, every day.It is said that it can take 30 - 90 days to successfully change a thinking pattern. It can also take just 256 pages.Read this book.....Optimize your thinking and optimize your life.

1-0 out of 5 stars She could have wrote a pamphlet instead of a book
Before wasting your money on this book please read this. If you just ask yourself in any circumstances and anytime that "What is the best thing I should do?" then you don't need to read this book. Because the author only try to work on this word "BEST" That's all.

5-0 out of 5 stars Highly Recommended!
Wow, this book made a great difference in my life! It shows you step by step how to strive for nothing but the ultimate in each and every aspect of your life. It is one of the best and most valuable books I have read. I was also pleased with the warmth and very good style of the author. She is definitely a remarkable woman and I thank her for this exceptional book. Definitely get a copy for yourself. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Semantics from the world of 1933
An interesting view that is not to be overlooked. As in physics we changed or concepts from Newtonian (space and time) to Einstein or non-Newtonian (space/time). We see this in any fields and some of us embrace the change and see how infinite our views can still work; others of us resist knowing that there is something fundamentally wrong if you can not put your finger on it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Unrecognized Genius
Korzybski aimed his discussion at professionals, so disregarded definitions (multi-ordinal anyway), etc.Despite this many criticisms resulted, some from professionals, notably Martin Gardner (1993): "...poorly organized, verbose, philosophically naive, repetitious, mish-mash of sound ideas borrowed from abler scientists."
3-0 out of 5 stars Mediocrity and Genius Collide!
Reading the other reviews of this book, I'd have to say I agree equally with every review. It is true that the ideas contained in this text are of first class and of life changing quality. It's also true that Korzybski might not be as eminent as some think. At the begining of each chapter, Korzybski qoutes specialists from different fields, and reading these is almost like discovering the fingerprints of a thief. You quickly realize that almost none of these ideas are of Korzybski's creation. It would seem that his intentions were to compile theories from Philosophy, physics, abstract mathematics and phycology and create a unified group, the only problem is that Korzybski repeatedly uses the phrase "my theory", when after about page 350, it becomes apparent that he has no real way of collecting these elements, and his only objective is to repeat verbatim in every other paragraph "The whole of Knowledge is structure, which is based on multiordinal relations, which include infinite-value order." After about the 15th time he has made this statement, you'll be ready to give up like I did. Suffice to say, this book did lead me to some real thinkers, Russell, Whitehead and poincare, and it did give me a new interest in the study of the human nervous system, but as the text stands on it's own... it doesn't. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Release the dead weight
Dr. Orloff is brilliant---this has helped me get rid of dead weight/bad energy in my life and feel better both emotionally and physically.
5-0 out of 5 stars Real Prescriptions, Real Solutions
In 'Positive Energy,' Dr. Orloff introduces Energy Psychiatry, which recognizes the very real energy field we live in as much as a fish lives in water but which has been an unknown or ignored area. But these 'prescriptions' are self-validating, simple and return immediate benefits. Looking at rejuvenation, eating disorders, negativity, sexuality, creativity, relationships, depression and more from an energy standpoint, ACTUAL and immediate solutions are at our beck and call. Dr. Orloff's previous book on intuitive healing was wonderful, but 'Postive Energy' goes deeper, is more detailed and yet simpler as paths to solutions taking into account the real world are provided step-by-step. This is one 'self-help' book which will not just gather dust after a quick and empty read, but a manual for expanded awareness and solutions to basic problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars Major impact to your career success...
Negotiating is a critical skill in just about all areas of life, but especially when you're supposed to be a leader at work.Michael Watkins' book Shaping the Game: The New Leader's Guide to Effective Negotiating does a very nice job in laying out the necessary skills, as well as giving you the strategic tools you need to be successful at it.
5-0 out of 5 stars The New "Getting to Yes"
For years "Getting to Yes" has been the standard introduction to negotiation.Frankly, the one-size-fits-all approach and win-win optimism of the book has gotten tired.Mike Watkin's "Shaping the Game" is the antidote.

4-0 out of 5 stars FISH! for life
If you live a busy, hectic life and are not happy with it, then I recommend this CD. I listened to it in my car on the way to work. I had heard of FISH! in the workplace, but this CD focuses on your home life and relationships. The idea comes from the FISH! philosophy started at the famous Seattle Fish Market. The book describes the changes that one couple made after they applied the principles that they already knew so well. They realized that they could have more control over their personal lives. They wanted to live life to the fullest. The best take-home point from the CD is that "you can choose your attitude"--it is something you have control over!

5-0 out of 5 stars This is splendid
Fish ! was an exciting book that no doubt brought in a fresh perspective to light up our lives at work. Pike Place Fish Market ranks # 1among the places that I would like to visit during my lifetime. Mary Jane , Lonnie and the kids now seem to have become a part of our own family. In this book, there is a happy homecoming for Grandma too. Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Necessary Losses
This well-written book is definitely worth reading. It offers comfort and guidance to all of us on our travel through the different stages of our life-cycle.Although not foolishly optimistic, the book is up-beat and even manages to interpret Freud in an affirmative light.Although written in the eighties, the work of the analyst-author is still relevant.I've given this book to friends as a gift.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best positive psychology book available
I am a student just starting a PhD in the area of personality psychology. This is an outstanding book that significantly moves positive psychology forward. It is becoming critical for students, researchers and practitioners to be aware of this field, and there is no finer textbook avaliable. What makes this book unique is that it is the only one that focuses on how positive psychology can be applied in all areas of life (including health, teaching, and work). This feature also makes it fascinating for the non-professional interested in how psychology relates to their lives, and who wants their reading fully supported by research. Another key strength of this book is that each chapter is written by a world expert, so the end result is a book that includes more state of the art knowledge than would be possible were the entire book written by a single author. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From someone who used to over-use logics
I'm surprised for many good reviews for this book. However I'm well aware that out there there's still many folks like what I became one time, there are a few of thyme 2002 and 2003 in here. There's way too much negative promotion in our days and much of it should be due to the media and entertainment industry. Those businesses usually teach us to....

5-0 out of 5 stars Valuable New information for Mediators
This newly revised edition of The Promise of Mediation offers a wealth of new information on the priniciples of transformative conflict intervention. Many readers may not be aware that the revised edition actually contains almost entirely new material, reflecting new understandings of transformative mediation that have developed since the publication of the first edition.Bush and Folger offer new specifics for practice in the transformative framework of mediation through a carefully analyzed case study, in which we can see details of the "small steps" of conflict transformation. They also discuss the impact that the transformative movement has had on the field as a whole, and debunk some common misconceptions about the transformative framework.I have especially enjoyed the last chapter, which addresses, more completely than anything in the first edition, the deep underlying values that have led to the articulation of a transformative vision for mediation, and looks at possibilities for the future of the field.
5-0 out of 5 stars A Huge Step Forward in the Art and Science of Mediation
I'm grateful to the authors for the significant advance in mediation thinking that this book represents. This new edition has the potential to move the entire field toward a deeper, more powerful understanding. With the original edition, and again with this one, Bush and Folger have provided great clarity to a topic that, until now, has been muddled. While other mediators and writers succumb to the pressures of conflict and become part of the problem, these authors instruct us on how to remain true to the most important principles that lead to deep healing of human conflict. If I had the need, I would only hire a mediator who had read, studied, understood and embraced this book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Helped Me Sell My Business
Ten years ago I realized I needed to sell my business and move on but I felt stuck. But, using the techniques in this book, I formed a Wish Group with four friends who were also wanting some changes or to meet a goal. We supported each other over a year's time and what could have been an absolutely overwhelming experience became manageable. And, yes, I sold my business and found a totally new career! I can't say enough good things about this book, in fact, all of Barbara Sher's works. She's excellent!

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow!
Kathleen Adams really did a great job when writing this book. After seeing all of the good reviews on here I thought I would take a look at it in the store before purchasing it.Having just bought a writing journal and getting back into the journaling mode, I was looking for a new way of seeing journaling and getting ideas on paper.I have to say there is something in here mentioned for everyone!!! I really like how the author is able to provide some of her own journaling experiences as well as decent examples for the various styles mentioned in this book. Some of the methods in this book really inspires you to reach back in your past and apply some of these methods.I've learned a massive variety of ways to journal after reading this one, it was definately worth my time and money. I recommend this one for all people, whether you are returning to journaling or just beginning, there is something in here for you!

4-0 out of 5 stars Better than I expected
This book is an easy read (for those of you who don't like to read alot). It is not a rule book or a "how to" book. It is a bunch of ideas and suggestions for journaling to the end of self understanding and growth.

I picked up a small spiral bound ecru book for sketching a couple of years ago. No, I'm not an artist, but find myself wanting to make sketches when I'm not making photographs. I then found myself writing on one page and drawing on the other. On a whim, I picked up a copy of "Journal to the Self" at a local bookstore. I read through a few pages.

5-0 out of 5 stars Listening towards Enlightenment
This is for the audio version.Chopra shows new ways of thinking to help us down our path of enlightenment. His thoughts are wise, in line with other masters yet with a new perspective, doable. In this audio book he has practical and interesting excercises to help you realize many of the perscriptions he reccomends. It is a bit frustrating to rewind on the iPod to get to the correct section to do each excercise but worth it since his voice aides in acheiving the meditative outlook he often suggests. As a listening expereince, he reads his book with clarity, interest and emotion - very well done and very enjoyable.Overall this was an excellent experience.

5-0 out of 5 stars A marvelous thesis suggesting there are no coincidences
Deepak Chopra reviews the evidence that confirms we are all linked together in a web of consciousness. Going well beyond this basic fact, he weaves a marvelous thesis suggesting that there are no coincidences. Every single event is pregnant with meaning. The challenge is to open ourselves to become aware of the invitations in what appear to be coincidences - to waken to our participation in the web of ongoing creation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Deepak's best work yet
I have not only read this book twice, I have listened to the audio-book version more times than I can count. This is one of Deepak's best works yet - and every time I listen to it I learn something new that I had not picked up earlier. It really is a wonderful work that in a way brings together Deepak's many years of study and practice in the world of mind-body connection. It starts with a review of the foundation of his philosophy, which is the quantum world - it updates and expounds on his prior works on this subject with the most recent discoveries and findings by the worlds leading physicists. He explains the interaction of the human conciousness with the quantum world in a way that is very understandable for the average person. From there he takes the reader into meditation techniques, architypes, and sutras, that lift one's understanding of expanded conciousness to new levels, and then goes into how to use these practices to accomplish wonderful things with your life. This book prompted my wife and I to attend one of his lectures, which expounded on both this book, and his most recent work "The Book of Secrets". Even though it is based in eastern philosophy, in general the work is religion-neutral, that is to say that it can be applied to anyone's religious convictions. All I can say is that we have found both books to be life changing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best book ever written on emotional abuse
I have read many books on emotional abuse and this book, by far, is the best. Dr. Stosny must have been a fly on our wall over the last 25 years to be able to reiterate "verbatim" some of the conversations and events that have happened in our home.
5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely valuable and helpful book!!!
An angry or emotionally abusive relationship is overwhelming and confusing to both the husband and wife.Steven Stosny gives you a method with specific steps to take to get yourself out of this horrible situation, with both of you healing and hopefully saving your marriage. It is a remarkable book that has changed my life for the better.I have also been to his boot camp, which I highly recommend.Thank you Steven for giving my husband and I the tools to profoundly change our relationship back to a happy and loving one.

5-0 out of 5 stars You Don't Have To Take It Anymore
