5-0 out of 5 stars A clear path to personal accountability-- no question about it
If you like your self-help advice in a quick-to-read, easy-to-digest format, you'll enjoy this sequel to the book, QBQ! The Question Behind the Question. In his first book, author John G. Miller explained that instead of whining, "Why does everything bad happen to me?" you should take responsibility and ask yourself, "What can I do to improve my situation?" That's the QBQ, and asking it stops you from blaming and complaining, and empowers you to find your own solutions. In this book, Miller takes personal accountability up a notch, and teaches you how to improve your relationships at home and at work by adopting the five "Advantage Principles: learning, ownership, creativity, service and trust." At times, the book can get a bit preachy, but the examples are entertaining and the advice is simple, clear and solid. If you're looking for a fast shot of effective, feel-good self-help advice, we recommend Miller's accessible program. Or to pose the question his way: if your QBQ is, "What can I read to learn how to solve my own problems?" this book is your answer.

1-0 out of 5 stars Shallow and Poorly Written
QBQ is common sense. For a top motivational speaker I would expect a little more depth than three paragraph chapters with little gems of wisdom culled from office banter or internet rumors.I'm sure there are other authors out there who write about personal responsibility and accountability and have more to offer....
5-0 out of 5 stars Just like QBQ! - simple, effective - and deep!
Each employee at our manufacturing consulting firm receives a copy of QBQ! to read.We have a short dialogue and its contents are referenced daily. Every time I listen to Miller's "book on tape" CD or re-read QBQ!, something new hits home.I have shared these books as gifts with employees and friends and with my family as well. From my wife to each of the four children ages 22 to 14. It makes a difference at all levels and now Flipping the Switch, Miller's new book, is also wonderful and being read by all!

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a very appealing text
Chapters are disjoint at times, with no reference to similar concepts between them.Almost as if they were all written separately without any editing to tie them all together.
4-0 out of 5 stars Health Behavior and Health Education
This book is a must have for anyone in the health education field. It presents all major health behavior theories in a clear and understandable manner, applies theories to case studies at the end of each chapter, and offers a table summary of each theory's core constructs. The book is well written and with this third edition comes more updated research information.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not for a novice
Unarguably, Glanz et al know their theories. That, along with how comprehensive this book is, is as much of a positive review as I can give.My criticism of this book is not the expertise of Glanz et al. (They are quite obviously experienced intellectuals and are to be commended for their efforts.)My concern is:

5-0 out of 5 stars Yippee!!I made the decision...
to stay in my house!Having recently gone through a divorce, and somewhat uncomfortable with my neighborhood, which has a very different demographic from mine, I struggled with how I could manage the house on my own, and finance numerous small and large repairs without taking on too much debt.
5-0 out of 5 stars Housing and Happiness
I purchased this book on the advice of a friend. After determining my housing profile I purchased ten additional copies as holiday gifts for colleagues. This book is the first of it's kind and will assist you in understanding how your housing decisions are made and how to make your home a place of happiness and not only financial but emotional security.I found myself highlighting passages as I went along for quick future reference.I would highly recommend this book to anyone - no matter what your living/financial situation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Housing Decisions
At last a book that entertains you while giving solid information.I especially like the way this author uses flesh and blood real people to illustrate her points.I'm halfway through already in one day --maybe I'll write another when I finish it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating
Not only did I like the advice about changing my own outlook, I found the research fascinating!Definitely worth a read.

5-0 out of 5 stars An intelligent self-help work that is both very readable and extremely compelling
I am a psychologist myself, and ever since i first began studying psychology, I have been fascinated by the work of Dr. Seligman.Once I started working as a therapist, I purchased and this book to facilitate my work with clients.Dr. Seligman is a talented, amusing, and engaging writer who presents an extremely pursuasive review of his research into the effects of learned optimism on mood, performance, health, etc.Because his research includes areas as diverse as including health (showing greater breast cancer survival rates for those who are more optimistic), sales success (proving that optimistic salesman are more successful), and sports/politics (providing evidence that both sports teams and political candidates are more likely to win when optimism is increased), his methods are beleivable to even the most die-hard psychological skeptic.
5-0 out of 5 stars Pivotal book makes optimism achievable
Despite equal talent and drive, it turns out that optimists will succeed where pessimists fear to tread. The good news is that you can learn optimism and lean on it to respond to adversity and inculcate greater resilience. Through descriptions of dozens of studies performed since the '70s, author Martin Seligman conveys the history and landscape that define "positive psychology," the science he helped to found. He offers cognitive techniques designed to tweak your natural disposition and give you the advantage of optimism. We recommend this book as a seminal work of positive psychology. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars I wish I'd changed my mind before purchasing this
Gardner's book is full of banal and often incorrect observations. It's hard to believe he has received over 20 honorary degrees from universities around the world if his ideas are this unoriginal. He chooses the staggeringly bad examples of Margaret Thatcher, George Bush and BP CEO John Browne as people who have successfully changed minds. He doesn't mention that Thatcher and Bush antagonized large sections of their countries' populations, completely failing to change their minds, in fact hardening their positions of opposition; in large part due to these leaders' own refusal to ever change their minds or consider alternative policies. Gardner lavishes praise on Bush for switching from isolationism to an interventionist foreign policy after 9/11, without any mention of the PNAC team that had already planned to invade Iraq even before 9/11.
2-0 out of 5 stars Changing minds with one point of view
I found the first 50 pages or so to be intriguing, after that it became a grind to endure. Mr. Gardner makes very indirect references to the impact of the media on the vignettes that he recounts, yet seemingly asserts that the individuals involved acted in a vacuum.
1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
Changing Minds is very disappointing - average to very poor writing, poor development of ideas, ideas that have been shown to be weak or invalid constructs, and very little substance. You will learn very little about how to change anyone's mind or your own.Reading this book and finishing it is a grind. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Review by professional life coach, this is simple and powerful
This is a simply written book that contains very powerful and useful ideas about managing your inner critic. It focuses on mindfulness of your process and disidentifying with the voices in your head that undermine you on a daily basis.
5-0 out of 5 stars A fairy tale picture book for adults
This book is a light way to deal with something serious -that could kill you spiritually every day and every moment.Playfulness has importance in people. It spoke to my inner child-the inner child in you is the one who let in these "seeds of doubt"(gremlins if you will) in the first place and I suppose it is this child who must release them back to the universe. While reading this book-a fast read by the way-I got thefeeling that this seasoned professional author doesn't hang with the usual crowd of stodgy "take themselves too seriously" psych types, and I was so proud of him for stepping apart- for having the courage and wisdom -and writing this book in his own unique style that spoke to the part of me that agreed to release and or silence the "gremlin " in me- it is a gift to the world.

3-0 out of 5 stars A little bit lightweight
This book has some great insights into getting past your ego blocks and old personality limitations.

4-0 out of 5 stars The relationship advice in this book is worth the price
Sure, this guy is pretty rude and in-your-face, but I can't say that he isn't honest. The part in the book where he talks about relationships is well worth the price of this book.To give you an idea of what he talks about when it comes to relationships, it's basically this:You don't need anybody, and if you do, the relationship is doomed. He talks about how people need their own space and their own friends, not to be too clingy or needy, and how independence attracts others. That chapter is the best advice on relationships I've ever read, and I've read quite a few.

4-0 out of 5 stars Straight Talk
I found Larry's staight forward manner kind of refreshing - considering one rarely finds such straight talk concerning life these days.Anyway, the material is a collage of self-help annecdotes mixed in with Larry's experiences.I would recommend this book as a quick and easy read that has some writing exercises sprinkled in.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cold bucket of water.
I bought this book in an airport, and by the time I got to my destination, I had read it, underlined it, and highlighted the heck out of it. It smacks you around, shakes you up and hangs you out, and it's been the greatest turn-around book I've read in many years. His deal with stress "Stress comes from knowing what's right and doing what's wrong"- or " Do not loan anyone your books"- wish I'd heard that years ago, I'd have a bigger library- are incredibly simple, but since we've all gotten to the point where simple is difficult, it really hits home.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally Understanding Change Resistance as Useful Information
Imagine getting so much perspective on habits you're not happy about that you can actually keep your commitments to yourself.Using language structure as both the diagnostic and the cure, Kegan and Lahey offer up a fresh guide to creating sustainable change.
5-0 out of 5 stars A great break down of common problems
I love the analysis of the way we communicate breaks down common misconceptions. This book shows the things that create negative responses and reactions.I think that while it shows ways to change, very few people actually change.I plan to use these concepts with my employees and see if it has an impact. My supervisor told me about this and advised trying it out with a partner first. I can see ways that I and others I work with fall into patterns that can be changed.

1-0 out of 5 stars Yuck
I was looking for help with my relationship addiction. This book is so stuffed with mumbo jumbo I couldn't get through the first chapter.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some interesting parts
This book does have some interesting parts. I wanted to see and learn more about myself, but went away without much more than I've already learned. There are some interesting stories about other people, some I could understand, and others I really could not relate. So I gave the four stars if perhaps there are people out there that can relate to the stories of other people.
4-0 out of 5 stars " challenging and VERY helpful;"
Now this is a book i recommend to anyone who is "hooked" on a particular individual. The book is very pragmatic and the exercises are fanitastic at shifting one out of "denial land" and back into "reality" . You will relate to aspects of many of the stories told.

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding Basic Human Behavior in the Workplace
"Organizational Behavior: An Experiential Approach" has rightfully earned its reputation as a practical applied OD Classic! While traditional primary and secondary education emphasize building mental libraries of `theoretical knowledge,' Osland, Kolb, and Rubin recognize that working professionals learn through applicable experiences that address real-world challenges--thus, `an experiential approach.'I have successfully used lessons from "Organizational Behavior: An Experiential Approach" during consulting engagements in both private and public sectors, in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, and in graduate business education.Consistently, through `experiential approaches' as described in "Organizational Behavior", adults learn more useful lessons from their experiences, learn what their lessons mean, learn how to generalize their learning for other applicable situations, AND apply more of their learning when they are back on the job.Experiential learning goes beyond merely increasing knowledge and actually changes individual (and organizational) behavior.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book!
This book is great.I bought it thinking that I'd use it just for my organizational behavior class and I was wrong. The group exercises will definitely come in handy in future group assignments and in the workplace.

Through this very easy to understand book, I found out what I was doing wrong in life and have fixed it. I cannot say enough good things about this book and the discussion forum that goes with this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Life changing
I purchased this book a few years back.At the time, I wanted to blame everyone else for my shortcomings.Recently I have read to book twice.Every man should have this book. This book is only good if you approach it with an open mind.Meaning if you are in denial about being a nice guy, this book or any other book wont help you. After years of being a nice guy and being disappointed, I am enjoying life alot more.

5-0 out of 5 stars This small book packs a LOT of punch!

This is not a book you will read and be changed by its profound ideas. It is not an idea.It is a practice. If you are an intellectual snob who is not willing to get out of your head and into your heart, this practice will not work for you.Only if you are willing to go within and and FEEL the feelings that are keeping you stuck will you gain from this experiential technique. If you are willing to do the exercises, it will be a profound experience in raising your awareness and your peace of mind.It can help you experience the freedom you seek.

3-0 out of 5 stars Skeptical
A Course in Miracles is my only skeptical part of this book. I do not know this program, but from the evidence I get in the book..I doubt its background in Jesus Christ. But don't quote me for sure.I can say I enjoyed reading this book, it makes sense. It was uplighting and inspiring. Worth the read but be cautious of cult practice.
