5-0 out of 5 stars Lose Weight Without a Diet Using Simple and Practical Advice!
Dr. Wansink is a food psychologist who specializes in the investigation of the mental and emotional factors that cause us to eat. This book demonstrates that we can lose weight, simply by being more mindful of our eating habits. It contains interesting and humorous case studies that highlight those mindless activities that add 200 or 300 calories to our diet each day and which can add up to 20 or 30 excess pounds in the course of a year.
5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best ever

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointing
I was thinking negative thoughts waiting for the book to advise me on positive thoughts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Encouragement is Like Miracle-Gro for Relationships
I have long been a proponent of encouragement as a means to build healthy, strong relationships and promote growth. This book offers a concrete plan for making that happen. I have observed people moved to tears by a little appreciation. People are starving for love and appreciation. Don't let the people in your life suffer any longer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Arianna is a one of a kind woman
Ms Huffington shares precious knowlege and experiences. She is a great woman and a TRUE MODEL that young women like myself look up to. Read the book and make it yours .
5-0 out of 5 stars Her best book and one with some great advise
Having read Ms Huffingtons earlier books, most of which were written when she was in the Republican camp, I was curious as to what the new book would be like and admit I was even hesitant, thinking she may have gone the extreme opposite. But I am so dang impressed and cannot recommend the book highly enough.
4-0 out of 5 stars Because Women Need The Message
I rated this book with 4 stars because so many women are going to recognize themselves in this book; however, I didn't give it five stars because Huffington didn't go far enough into the female or human dilemma. We are riddled with fear because of history, the church, the state, but to make a statement "become fearless" and not back it up with the way to do it, leaves us empty. In Gangi's book, "Forget The Cures, Find The Cause," she also talks about fear, but fear as one of only two emotions, love being the other. To become fearless we have to embrace ourselves with unconditional love, not become warriors in the pack.Huffington's name will sell the book, but readers need to know there are stronger messages written with more heart. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Insightful Book!
I loved reading this book. It gave me a lot more to consider, subjectively speaking, with where my happiness comes from, and why. It's a great book, and a great read. I highly recommend it!
1-0 out of 5 stars Horrible writer who does not respect the intelligence of his readers
Based on the reviews I ordered this book and starting to read it with a sense of anticipation and excitement.I was badly disappointed. The material Gilbertdealing with is interesting andobviously he is aknowledgeable. The big problem is thathis writing is almost a parody ofpopular science writing.I guess his editor told him to be personable and relate to his readers. What we gotinstead is a narcissistic, verbosenarrative an idea every five or six paragraphs, deeply buried inGilbert's accounts of his cigar smoking and other tidbitsdrawn from his tedious observations of own life. It seems that he has no respect for the intelligence of his reader who he feels he has to entertain withcute and trite commentsin every other sentence. When you compare him to someone whoboth respects the intelligence of readers and knows how to write such as Daniel Goleman, you realize that popular science writing is a difficult art and Gilbert has no talent for it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Stumbling on Happiness is a home run....

I fell in love with this book from page one. It seems as of late, the big "push" regarding body language has been centered on lying. More specifically, how to tell if someone is lying to you.

4-0 out of 5 stars Easy To Read, But Makes You Feel Very Smart!
This is one of those books that is generally as easy to read as a pop-psychology book, but has the flair and style of something much more intellectual. I do agree with one reviewer who says it reflects much of the material in Cialdini's other book on the subject--but it isn't precisely the same.

This book pretty much sums up all a man needs to know about picking up women. My only problem was the approach; Clink helped me practically step-by-step on how to get better at the initial approach. He also helps with keeping a conversation and when to stop it. Its just a fantastic book.

... and although there's some inspiring ideas to be found here, there's also some pretty crazy schemes that could get you into serious trouble (lying in wait along bike paths and jumping in the way of attractive females at the last moment in order to meet them???... that's the kind of thing that'll scare the bejeezus out of women, create a creepy first impression and possibly even get you arrested)... his 3-second rule is also highly questionable: immediately approaching every attractive woman you see within 3 seconds of spotting her - first of all, fussy types with discriminating tastes need a little more time to decide who's worth pursuing and, secondly, in a nightclub scenario, this approach will only make you appear to be a desperately impulsive horndog - and no woman likes being hit on by a horndog (and neither do their jealous boyfriends, a critical "X" factor you have to ascertain before zooming yourself into an awkward situation)... instead, think like one of the big cats on the African plains hunting its prey - be patient, play it cool, scope the room, zero in on your chosen targets, assess their situation and figure out what your approach will be before making your move - after all, what's the big hurry? But if you happen to lock eyes with one of your targets, NOW would be the time to implement the 3-second theory (be cool about it - don't cause drinks to spill on your way over - just casually move in beside her).

Been studying this book with my Network Marketing team. Was so good I had to read ahead! In my current job I've been applying this and the results have been absolutely noticable even by my boss!
5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent tool for leadership development
As a university student, I initially purchased this book to review for an assignment in a Leadership Theory course, but the value I received from this text was greater than expected. Maxwell's reputation as a leadership expert is one of the reasons I chose this book, but another reason was that this book focuses not only on the concepts of leadership in general but mainly on personal leadership development. Overall, I enjoyed this book, and I would recommend it to anyone interested in the study of leadership or developing their own leadership abilities. I found John C. Maxwell's work to be very inspirational and very applicable to real-world applications. After having contemplated what leadership truly means and how it affects us on a daily basis, it is easier to see that its impact is all around us in some form or to some degree. As Maxwell puts it, "everything rises and falls on leadership," and anyone with the desire to do so can become a better leader. This book explains how to do it effectively.

5-0 out of 5 stars Favorite short read on leadership
I have studied the subject of leadership for several years and continue to return to this book as the best short-read on the subject ever written. I read it at least once a year just to refresh myself. The stories are well chosen and the principals are sound. It is not an in-depth treatise but provides an excellent foundation for understanding the difference between leadership and management - which is greatly lacking today. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Good example of selfishness
It is apparent that the first premise in Peck's book is that in order for humans to be a whole being, one must grow through spirituality (or enlightenment) attained through "grace" with the main purposes of gaining "capacity and understanding of serendipity" (309) and through "spiritual evolution, whereby people grow towards godhood" (270) and "become God" (283).
5-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing
Peck's definition of love is unparalleled in any of the literature I have read concerning the matter. I have always been particularly fond of Kahlil Gibran's depiction of marriage and love. However, I feel that Peck redefines it in modern English and provides a contrast to the "mainstream" view of love and "falling in love."
4-0 out of 5 stars Life is difficult...
I read this book and the sequel, People of the Lie around the time that they came out.I was stunned by Peck's honesty. The stories of how he and his patients struggle with the problems and obstacles that confront them are amazing.

This book should be read by everyone on the planet - it is the tool to assist in bringing about the "mind-shift" for our next leap in evolution.
3-0 out of 5 stars Routine
This book really doesn't add a lot to the literature available regarding success and creative thought, etc. It's not a bad read, just nothing really new.The author seems to be a good guy though, and is enthusiastic about his subject.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth reading
Joe got it across to me in one sentence: "I believe our planet is what was described in an original Star Trek episode called "Shore Leave."..."they [Kirk, Spock et al] are on a planet that reads their thoughts and creates what they think about." Now, if you're not familiar with the concept that your internal world creates your external world, that's an 'out there' idea... Yes, parts of the book are redundant... and I'm not into all the spiritual stuff... but that's okay, because the concepts are simple and simply explained. Not to mention uplifting and inspiring. I love it. I've read it twice in a year now, and enjoyed it both times. Thanks Joe! ... Read more

We know the shadow by many names: alter ego, lower self, the dark twin, repressed self, id. Carl Jung once said that the shadow "is the person you wouldrather not be." But even if you choose to hide your dark side, it will stillcast a shadow, according to author Debbie Ford. Rather than reject the seeminglyundesirable parts of ourselves, Ford offers advice on how to confront ourshadows. Only by owning every aspect of yourself can you achieve harmony and"let your own light shine," she explains. "The purpose of doing shadow work, isto become whole. To end our suffering. To stop hiding ourselves from ourselves.Once we do this we can stop hiding ourselves from the rest of the world."Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great instructional book!
This book is well worth the time to read. I have completed a credentialed training course, and found that this book really helped drive the concepts home, so that they are in my "being" as a coach. It is detailed and thorough, really explaining the purpose behind certain concepts that just weren't explained in my coach training. I have noticed a change in my coaching style already. I am very thankful to have read this book and highly recommend it to those who are looking for a comprehensive examination of the basics of coaching.

5-0 out of 5 stars No nonsense review by professional coach who uses this approach
I am a professional coach who has been using these principles in my practice for a number of years. Initially, I thought some of them were somewhat questionable, but over time, I have found this to be the most powerful and simple methodology available. It is to learn and apply.
5-0 out of 5 stars Co-Active Coaching
Co-Active Coaching was a terrific book for "detailed knowledge" of coaching principles. It gave a brief synopsis of coaching concepts for the first few chapters; and then used the following chapters to explain in much more detail the major elements involved in coaching people. It simplified coaching into five very critical elements and explained really well how each element worked to make the reader a better coach. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You Won't Believe It....at First!
This book has some of the most scientific strategies in existence! What struck me about this book, was that this stuff is new, really new. So many books make this claim, in the end though, they are usually the same techniques from years past, just used in different examples.
4-0 out of 5 stars A good book
The book is well written and gives the reader an insight into how people behave in many different situations. It has great applications for business people

5-0 out of 5 stars If you've ever had a Narcissist blow through your life, read this book.
I recently worked for a person with Narcissist Personality Disorder. It took me several months to figure out what was wrong with his behavior, but once I did, I saw that self-preservation was my only way out. Narcissists' behaviors are confusing, frustrating, depressive, and suck the life out of everyone near them. Compulsive liars with no conscience, they levy tremendous damage on anyone who refuses to give them what they want. Once you get away from a Narcissist, rebuilding your life is a challenge but can be done. This book is a good start to understanding where this personality disorder originates, and how you can cope and protect yourself from Narcissists.

5-0 out of 5 stars Why it is NEVER about me!!
WOW!! Excellent book! I recommend this to anyone who has controlling, narcissist, manipulative parents or spouse. I personally have given this book to several women whose parents doted on the sons and ignored the girls...and girls dealing with the narcissistic spouse and/or boyfriend...It has changed my life and made me realize that I must stand up for myself and say "no more" to those who insist that I worship them and be their scapegoat!! It is a book that will make you say "Ohhh, now I understand..". It is what "Toxic Parents" was years ago!! A MUST READ!!

2-0 out of 5 stars To the writer with a hammer, everything is a nail
I bought the book, actually two of them thinking it might provide some insight into the narcisstic personality. But I think the author tried too hard to write a whole book on something that perhaps a paragraph or a chapter might cover. At least I am unconvinced that she had a book full of information to impart.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye-opening and thought-provoking, well written:a must read for anyone interested in the field!
In this well-written, very accessible book, Martin Seligman points out that traditional psychology has always focused on the pathology of the human condition:illness and trauma.By understanding more about what makes people exceptionally well - happy, positive, optimistic - and recognizing that those who have these characteristics are more likely not only to have rewarding lives, but also to be successful in the world, Seligman believes that those who are naturally pessimistic or focused on the down-side can shift their perspective and become happier people.
1-0 out of 5 stars Positively Disturbing
This is the first time I have written a review. In this particular case, I felt it was my responsibility to forewarn potential readers of the disturbing contents of this book.I've read several "self help" books on subjects ranging from introversion to optimistic thinking.I found this book to be of little help and quite disturbing. The book is filled with tests and self evaluations.I do not believe it is necessary to know where one falls on the optimist/pessimist scale.Often, such tests can only further depress or make anxious an already vulnerable reader. In Chapter 5, the author uses an extremely horrific and disturbing story to illustrate a five step process to forgiveness.I was further sickened by the author's list of "bodily pleasures" in Chapter 7.Rather than feeling uplifted by this book, I found myself feeling upset and outraged by the author's egotism, ignorance, perversion and insensitivity.I caution anyone seeking advice on optimism

3-0 out of 5 stars From a person who was once very unhappy...
I believe this book goes a long way toward directing those who are still seeking happiness at a feeling level. But, in order to be totally fulfilled we have to get over our (narcissistic) need to always look at our transient feelings as any indications of how we are doing. I completely disagree with Dr. Seligman's statements on our 'set points.' I used to be chronically unhappy. I moved so far beyond that 'set point' that I do not even remember who I used to be. I think that 'set points' are an unecessary perspective in such a happy book. I asked a teacher who has helped me greatly in shifting my perspective. Here is part of his response:

Editorial Review

There is little sugar but lots of spice in journalist Rachel Simmons's brave and brilliant book that skewers the stereotype of girls as the kinder, gentler gender.

5-0 out of 5 stars Girls Need To Make Peace With Conflict
I found this book, "Odd Girl Out," not only helpful but also cathartic. It answered a lot of current questions I have about raising an adolescent daughter by enabling me to go back and visit my own youth and remind me of my own experiences. This book illustrates how easy it is for mothers raising daughters to live vicariously through them and see how it brings out old fears and insecurities. It was a re-education.
4-0 out of 5 stars Part of the Puzzle, Read It, but Don't Stop Here
You know, this is actually a topic that is near and dear for my heart and it did have a lot of interesting examples and data...but like Fast Girls before it, this reads a lot like someone's research paper and doesn't really delve too far into the history of aggression (in boys
