busy, wordy and uninspiring
I got this book for my foster teens but tossed it in the recycling bin instead. The book is full of chatter; the authors never get to the point.Plus all the illustrations, boxes and fonts, which I guess are supposed to be hip, give you a headache. I did plog through this quagmire long enough to confirm the authors weren't saying anything that would inspire a kid, so it's just as well they slathered it with window dressing. The book dies have a catchy cover, which I assume is designed to attract parents, not kids.Heck, I bought it.

bit much for my 12 year old
My 12 year old got bored with it, she's probably too young for this book.I am hoping she will pick it up in a year or so. I thought it was interesting and usefull.

This book: The 7 HABITS of Highly Effective TEENS, included many wonderful/helpful ideas, wich i used and enjoyed on my own. This book is what i call a guidance book. That helps in my eyes young teens who have problems in highly effective areas. This book basically shows you how to develope good habbits, it makes you become a better person, working on your personality and bad habits. the author gave you his fathers seven habbits to success in all parts of life. The author Sean Covey, put it in a fun and easy way to understand the point of this wonderful book.This book was actually a slight help to both me and my mother. I learned to work things out with her, and agree on things easier.

Effective and Relaxing
The belly breathing, affirmations, relaxation get my kids calm! The four stories are just the right length to keep their attention and get them to do actual stressmanagement techniques. The author never tells the children what to do or that they are being taught. The kids just follow the stories and characters along and learn to manage their own anxiety with actual techniques.
SAVE YOUR MONEY
I purchased this cd for my four year old a few months ago and disliked it enough to bother to write my first review of anything i've ever ordered through the internet."Bedtime stories" is a misnomer.There is no story content. After the first few lines read by the narrator, I found that her unnaturally slow,moronic verse didn't have a relaxing or somnulent effect but did, ironically,irritate me.I sat quietly listenting to the cd until my daughter asked me to turn it off-- only a few minutes into the cd.I skipped through the cd to see if it got better-- it did not. I suppose the point is to bore the child to sleep, but neither I nor my daughter could bear to listen to the "stories."This was the first item that I've ever puchased on-line for which i felt truly RIPPED-OFF.

Can't recommend highly enough

Not Age Appropriate
I bought this book for my four-year old.The age recommendation is four to eight.The text is entirely too graphic and detailed for children of this age.Parts of the book read like KISS lyrics or soft-porn.While this book is factually accurate and contains anatomically correct pictures, it is NOT age-appropriate.

This was how I learned "the facts of life" :)
I remember thinking this was a great book when I was a little kid. I agree with the reviewer who said that it's most appropriate for small children; I was probably 5 or 6 when my mom gave it to me. I remember it being very cute, and not the least bit distasteful. Half of my family works as delivery room nurses, so I was asking lots of questions early on! I know folks whose parents were so embarrassed about giving "the talk" that they learned everything from kids on the school bus, etc. This book is a great way of presenting information in a way young children can understand, without having to lie to them or change the subject.

Pictures are a little much...
Other than the picture of mommy and daddy in the bath tub together, I think this is a pretty good book.It puts this part of life in todler terms.If you are easily offended by graphics, don't buy this book. ... Read more

The 7 HELPFUL Habits for Teens
This book is great! Teenagers can really relate to this kind of stuff! The book is jam packed with pictures, quotes, and best of all the best advice a teenager could get! A College-Student's Review of"7 Habits ... Teens"
* * * * * FIVE STARS! NO DOUBT ABOUT IT! * * * * *Last summer I found this book on my younger brother's desk--a gift to him from our mother. As an eighteen-year-old college student, I thought the writing would be "too young" for me. NOPE! I read the book and it has significantly changed my views of myself, others, and the world. On another note, I liked the book so much that I decided to check out 'the original,' Sean's father's book (7 Habits of ... *people*): the verdict: I personally found the book for Teens a MUCH better read. Sean's writing style is concise and very visual, making it easy to understand, enjoyable, and fun. The anecdotes and stories are universally applicable--despite racial, economic, etc. backgrounds (or even age!).He doesn't waste time getting to the point, taking a single paragraph to introduce a new concept, and then supporting it with two or three stories, anecdotes, or quotations; and yes, there are even pictures too! The end product is something that is VERY enjoyable, practicable, and has helpful. If you have ANY doubts about whether or not to read this book, I would say that if you are even looking into it enough to read this review, you and someone you know can greatly benefit from the ideas in this book. Of course self-change is scary and difficult, but this book makes it fun and easy. It's helped me to not only improve my own life, but also that of my younger brother, guiding me to be a better role model for him. A very interesting, and lifechanging book
I have personally read this book, and ( as a 13 year old), it has drasticly changed my life. There are passages in this book that told me things about myself I never knew. Like this " I'f who I am, is what I have, and what I have is lost, who am I ?" I no longer feal that money or impotance should matter in my life. Boring!
I lent this book to my MIL before I read it but told her not to tell me about it or her thoughts on it until after I read it. I couldn't get passed the 2nd chapter. I found myself skipping pages that soon. I asked her if she liked it and she said she skipped a lot of pages also and found it to be very repetitive and boring. In my honest opinion it is one of the most boring books I have picked up. It just reads BORING!!

The dark side of Amish
Very interesting look into the little know practice of rumspringa, during which the Amish allow their teenagers to experience the dangerous temptations of "the English."We usually believe the Amish are rather naive and simple; in truth, they can be just as wild as non-Amish youths.The clinical analysis tended to be rather dry, but the portraits of the Amish youth were fascinating.

I was very surprised that the editor of this book allowed it to be hyped as a book about rumspringa.A very small percentage of the book is about this teenage Amish tradition.The rest is about Amish life in general (farming, faith, etc.), which, while interesting, is not about the moral conflicts teenagers face.

Best Anxiety Book EVER!
My seven year old has made a complete turn around since we started this work book.She finally feels empowered!!!!She understands that worries are like a "bully" that should be told to scram!We are truly thrilled!If you are really feeling the struggle of having a child with some anxiety/worry issues you must buy this book.I bought heaps of books last week and this is definitely the stand out.Today (the 23rd day of school) was the first day that she went into school with a smile on her face!Thank you, Ms. Huebner!Thank you!

Excellent Resource
This book served not only as a wonderful reference, but also provoked various discussions between my [...] son, my husband and myself.It's written in a manner that was easy for my son to understand and it continues to hold his interest.We haven't finished with it as of yet, but so far it has provided us with another avenue in dealing with our child's anxiety issues.

Fabulous introduction to "Birds and Bees"
I purchased this book after sitting cross-legged on the floor at a major bookstore with a whole slew of books on the subject.I picked this one for a number of reasons including the fact that it discusses different types of families -- this was a huge issue to me because my daughter was adopted as an "older child".
A Book with an AGENDA
Well, it is an okay book, if you tear out pages 31 & 32 (which explain and illustrate homosexual relationships). These two pages are completely inappropriate and unnecessary. Also, be forewarned that on page 42, the writer states that abortion is just a "medical way to end a pregnancy".She makes it sound like a safe, natural and healthy alternative to family planning. It is so obvious that the writer is pushing her liberal "agenda" on our innocent children.What a shame. If you do not share her personal views, stay away from this book.

Oh My Gosh.I LOVE THIS BOOK.MY SON.........LOVES THIS BOOK.I thought it would be a good ice breaker to open communication about sex. Although I have started talking to him about sex, it was still an uncomfortable topic for the both of us.Trying to master the clinical side of things as well as the human /real side of things.Not giving too much at a time but trying to make sure he gets what he needs.It is a stressful balance.

It's Perfectly Normal
Well what *IS* normal anyway?If normal to you is giving your child a book with lots of comic style nudity, directions for masterbating, exactly HOW to have sex (etc.) then you might want to grab this and run!If your child is average to above average intellectually he or she will have a full understanding of how to pleasure him or herself and how to perform the deed by the time they are finished.Of course there are warnings of pregancy, sickness (STD'S), and death (AIDS) if they are to do this while unprotected, so no worries there.You'd have to see the book to believe it.I was shocked when I started looking through it, and was doubling over with laughter that I had actually considered giving this to my 10 year old son.Actually, I did hand it to him in the car before I actually looked at it and he was shocked by the second page, gave it back and said "I think this is WAY too old for me Mama", and it turned out he was right!I'll never hand him something like that again without looking first.

Not age appropriate.Shocking.
I purchased this for my 11 year old son.I am so thankful that I read this book before giving it to him or going straight to discussing it.The pictures are hand drawn but graphic.Far too much detail for the target audience. Kids need to know about sexuality but they don't need to know EVERYTHING before they are even teen-agers.I would be upset to find this in a school library.This book definitely needs to be used with supervision. I returned this book as I believe its content is inappropriate for the cover advertised age of 10 years old.

One of the Best Books on the Subject
This is one of the best books on the subject of sexuality for children. Presented in plain talk with nicely drawn illustrations, it's neither too graphic nor too cartoonish for the 10-12 year old set. It covers a lot of topics they need/want to know about, and it's handled very tactfully.

**TEEN READER**BEST BOOK I EVER READ!It is truely AMAZING
I have to say reading the comment above made me pretty sad. This book was not sending mixed messages and it is definately NOT telling you to be popular and that your parents will only love you more if you get good grades. This book is simply about helping yourself become more of what you want and getting more out of the life you were delt with. well.. of course a person like me would have to read what people though before i wrote what i thought! i think that the people that don't like this book need help! why in the world would rich people not have problems!! and there is way more to these people than you think!! just because some of you are shallow and can't use your imagination and have fun with some of the jokes he throws at you doesn't mean you need to get mad!! grow up! there are more people who know that that book was good and i happen to believe strongly in what he wrote!! yes i have money but no i don't have the perfect life promise!! so just because a person has money does not make them unknowledgeable about real life! so think to yourself again maybe you just need to read between the lines or maybe your life was to perfect but i know that this really helped me and i am doing some of the things that he said and it has helped me alot through everything i have been through!!

I have read this book with my two boys ages 8 and 10. We all have anxiety in different degrees and I am trying to help them to learn to cope and move forward. I cannot recommend this book enough to loved ones and parents who have children with fears or worries that are causing problems in their daily functioning. I have read many books on this subject and never found one as good as this for children and even for adults to use. I would not think twice about buying this book if anyone in your home struggles with fears. Bravo for finally writing a book on this subject that children can use. Childhood is where we need to begin to help in this area.

One of the best self-help books for children ever written
As a child and family therapist, I am constantly searching for books to use with the children that I work with. I am usually disappointed with most books that address problems of childhood, because they either treat the subjects too lightly and offer no real solutions for children who have already used the obvious ideas, or are far too complex for the average child to relate to. This book is wonderful. Not only is it written in extremely child-friendly terms, it is comprehensive and gives many good-quality, proven techniques for dealing with fear and anxiety. Read more

A great resource
I remember that my grandma bought this book to give to my mom, so that she could share it with me.I developed pretty early, so my mom had already talked to me about my period before I read this book.I remember that she allowed me to read it myself and let me ask questions (I had lots).I also remember looking at the book with my cousin and laughing at the pictures of the developing male and female bodies.All in all, it's a great book that I'm glad is still in publication.I'd caution parents to give it to their children earlier than the age the book recommends.Both boys and girls are reaching puberty earlier these days and need to know about all of this.

Wonderful in 1975, and still is
My parents read both this book and "Where did I come from?" to me when they were first published in the mid-seventies (I was born in 1970).I don't remember feeling awkward or embarrassed about the books.I was at an age where everything was pre-sexual.I had no social hang-ups about my body parts.I remember very clearly starting elementary school about this time and I was able to understand what all the innuendos were about. Yes, sexual innuendos by many other children that couldn't have been older than nine.I remember other kids laughing at the girl who really believed that children came from the cabbage patch!I remember one of my friends crying and running to her mother when she caught our friend Kenny using the toilet while standing up.She though he had a horrible tumor.

I think I'll make it a tradition in my family! My mom gave me this book when I was growing up, and I swear I read it cover to cover each day!! Great Book
My son is actually reading and enjoying the book. As a teenager he has many questions but he is hesitant to ask. This book came handy it covers wide range of subjects and answers questions in a direct way.

Like a textbook
My 12 year old son keeps this book in a stack by his bed, but finds it too clinical--like a textbook.He likes "What's Going on On There" better because it's has a more humorous approach.As time goes on, however, he may appreciate the deeper lever of detail and information provided here.

A helpful resource
While no book on this subject is going to cover everything exactly the way you might prefer, this book does a very good job of covering a variety of topics related to sexual development.The material is presented in an easy-to-read, factual manner.After reviewing the book myself, I gave it to my 12 year old son, who looked at me as if to say "I know this stuff already".Yet the next day, he thanked me for giving him the book and said it had cleared up some misunderstandings he had.We were then able to talk about some of his questions and impressions from the book. ... Battlefield for all MINDS
I must say that i am very happy joyce meyers has taken the time to write a book dealing with young teenagers minds. This book was much needed. I think every teenager who struggles with anger, fear, self esteem, and so on should read this book :)

A favorite in our house!
This and "Once Upon a Potty" are my son's (age 2) favorites. It's a great potty book, and personally, I think it's a plus that it's unclear whether the child in the story is a boy or a girl - that just means either gender will easily be able to relate. As for whether it encourages toddlers to use the potty, I think it does. Whenever we read this, my son shouts "Diapers off!" and flies to the potty chair. One thing that's a real positive about this is that it's a bit long. That's been a help keeping my son sitting on the potty longer without being distracted by a toy or a noise or whatever. I'd highly recommend A Potty for Me for anyone looking to start or add to their potty training toolbox.

a great potty book!
My son (2 years) has loved this book for months.In fact, our family has memorized it now, we have read it so many times.I like how it written on a child's level and emphasized that the most important part of the whole potty learning process is that the child feel good about his/her accomplishments!

It's all in how you know your child will respond...
I have a little boy who will be 3 very soon.He is now at the stage where he tells me when to change poopy diapers, so I know that he is now entering the potty training stage.When looking for a book on encouraging the "potty" concept, I was so delighted to find a Karen Katz book.My child has two Katz books previous to this and loves the illustrations and easy language.Previous books were very instrumental in his grasp of sharing and not hitting.So it led me to purchase this book on potty training.So far, my son has LOVED the book and requests for me to read it over and over.He also is applying the concepts in the book to our visits to the big potty.

should be part of every pet-loving child's and adult's library
this book really helped me get over the loss of my beloved pet fish, Mr. Furious. Well, not "get over"- those who've loved animals know there is no "getting over" the loss of a dearly departed pet. There is only solace in the good memories we have of them. I enjoyed this lovely book. It gave a very warm and hopeful portrait of the after life. I intend to buy a copy for myself and for my young niece who recently lost her favorite kitty. Sylvia is a terrific author!

Great book for children with loss of pet
This book is great if you have children who has lost a pet or a loved one that has a hard time coping with a loss of their pet. They do a wonderful job easing the pain and explain that our pets will also be on the other side for us.The loss of our pets are similar to a loss of a person, we interact with each on a daily basis.If any of you have pets then you know each one has their own personality and are the closest thing to angels.They protect us and always have unconditional love for us. The book is full of drawing and pictures for children.

This book should be a requirement in every home.It is wriiten for a teen but shoul dbe read by both parent and child.The concept of the 40 assets is fundamentally simple.The book defines the assets and then gives adviceon how the adolescent, parent(s), community,school, and congregation canhelp to ensure that a child is brought up with all of the assets they needto be a successful person. Anxious Billy-Bully.

"Dear god please think of the Children" or "Falafel."
Amazon truly did you all a favor by mercifully offering you an excerpt of ten whole pages of Mr. O'Reilly's book. This was a luxury I was not given, and now I can't help but feel it's too late for my poor soul. I stomached the whole enchilada, and I warn you this is one Mexican (or wet-back, as Mr. O'Reilly ocassionally refers to people of Mexican origin) dish you do NOT wish to tackle. The first ten pages alone tell you exactly what kind of person Bill O'Reilly is. It is obvious that this iteration of this children's edition of his wildlyasinine "The O'Reilly Factor" is just another attempt to gouge his enamored viewers for more money. This book offers no real advice that cannot be already garnored by the occasional disney channel blurb or the elusive "common sense." It takes him two precious pages to explain to his obviously mentally ill readers that "real friends" are not anything like those on the show "Friends." Being a fan of the show I have to agree with O'Reilly, but then I'd be forced to ask "What the hell Bill?!" He recently settled a lawsuit pressed against him for a rumored $10 million by a Ms. Mackris for sexual harassment. He attempts to teach our children about sex, but is himself a barely disguised chauvenist and borderline deviant. His previous "The O'Reilly Factor" has it's own section on sex. Here he shows just how little respect for woman and boastfully describes many of his "sexual conquests." In his fiction novel "Those Who Tresspass" he self inserts himself as an irresistable and dangerous womanizer. Feel free to use the main character in this novel as a personality guide for O'Reilly himself. He is desperately and consistently seeking admiration from his audience. It's both sad and sickening. He barely alludes to his "rambunctious" childhood misadventures with his friends, trying to pass by his readers what he "learned" from those experiences. However, both his massively (depressingly) popular cable "news" show and his series of near toxic books reveal a man borderline insane. He's rediculously angry at the most obnoxiously inane things, a chronic liar, and has the memory span of an 80 year old hamster with alzheimers. He will literally make points in this book and provide evidence that counters his own argument. His show is no different. He will make wildly offensive comments. When his callers call him up on it, he has his chronies "replay the tape." Of course, in the year 2006 we are completely unable to actually replay this tape on modern television for viewers, as you can see when his chronies shout back off camera a completely different statement. He has never apologized for his actions, only grunting with simian aggression and angrily moving on to the next segment. This man cannot hold multiple marriages, yet he attempts to teach children about relationships. Mr. O'Reilley is to televised journalism what pornography is professional photography. Any person who truly consider themselves a conservative should be horrified by how he represents the demographic. A recent example is of a jewish man who called into his show to make his case that having Christmas during school as he grew up made him feel uncomfortable because he felt constantly pressured to be more Christian. O'Reilly responded by telling the man that if he didn't want to live in a Christian nation he should move to Israel. Any truly religious person whether Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or Buddhist should find a comment like this wildly offensive. Well, perhaps the Buddhists will let that one go. In a country where religious freedom is one of it's main tenets, perhaps O'Reilly would be advised to know that a marginal amount of secularism in public and government institution is necessary for religious freedom. The founding fathers considered religion a largely personal matter, as did Jesus. "Render unto Caesar's what is Caesar's."

...I read this book.I find it a pleasant diversion (like Mr. O'Reilly himself) as well during those all-too-frequent shuffleboard lulls.If he'd been born a century or so earlier, Bill would've been one of those "shoot from the hip" type of fellows; pity then that he wasn't.I like Bill.That's a clear as I can make it.So I figured I'd turn my kids on to him -- sounds innocent enough, right?Wrong. See, my kids hated this book.Mocked it.Made it an ongoing joke at every dinner table since."But Bill has some good advice," I pleaded with them over chips and salsa one leathery afternoon, "he's a real shoot from the hip guy, kids".Doh! ...
