Knees bees. Whatever. Just got this book a week ago, so as far as helping knees per se, don't know, but most impressed with it. These few yoga exercises limbers up the entire hip, leg area. I've only used this CD for a week but I know it's working. My cravings for sweets and potato chips are gone. If you knew me you would know how big a deal this is for me.Aside from that, the CD is wonderful for relaxing the body. What a wonderful book. I read the reviews here before purchasing and my only reservation was with the "sarcastic" humor in the book. Actually, it is the humor that makes this book work. It was the bait that got my son hooked on the book.

This book was difficult to use with elementary age children, especially those who are K-4th grade. Some of the sarchastic humor and tongue-in-cheek humor was very tough for younger children and/or kids with lower intellectual functioning. When I tried to use this several times with kids; the concepts did not engage them and seemed to go above their heads. I would also like this book more if it was sectioned off in short activities and lessons.

I've studied hypnosis with Stepp, Bandler, and Dobson and read just about every book by Bateson, Haley, Watzlawick,Zeig, Hilgard,Rossi, and Weitzenhoffer as well as the collected works of Milton Erickson....I wish I had found this book early on. It's a great foundation book that everyone who studies and uses hypnosis as a tool should have in their library. Yapko is obviously influenced by the Erickson approach to hypnosis but this doesn't prevent him from providing the alternatives and how they might be appropriately used depending on how the client presents. If you are new to hypnosis YOU NEED TO BUY THIS BOOK.

This book is a great text to use for learning about hypnosis or to teach hypnosis to students.It is thorough, covering every significant issue that a typical hypnosis practitioner would deal with, and it presents a careful, balanced examination of many issues that are often misrepresented by either proponents or critics of hypnosis and hypnotherapy.The current edition (3rd) seems very well organized and conceptualized, and is pretty well updated about neuroscience correlates of hypnotic states.Yapko clearly wishes to make hypnosis a well-respected healing practice, and attempts to present hypnosis in a well-developed context that allows readers to see the many potential benefits of using hypnotic techniques as well as the possible hazards of misrepresenting or misapplying hypnosis.This is a well-researched, comprehensive, and well-rounded presentation of hypnosis which should serve many hypnosis practitioners well.It is hard to find a book on hypnosis of this quality, with most books on the topic focusing more on techniques and exalting the power of hypnosis than on addressing the many professional issues and contexts that practitioners will have to work with.The only significant fault in this book I can point out is the title, as Yapko proceeds to explain why he is not happy with the word "trance" as a descriptor for states of consciousness appearing during hypnosis.Perhaps he will decide on a new title the next time this text is updated.Meanwhile, Trancework is a book that sets a high standard for Hypnosis texts. ... Having already read the 'Power of Now', I found that "Practicing the Power of Now:..." was much more to-the-point and condensed from the original 'Power of Now'. I thought it wasconcise and much easier to follow. The truths set forth in Echart Tolle's work are not to be glossed over. They transcend every person's religion because you can read his words with 'spiritual discernment' to apply the truths to your life and understand it - no matter what your belief system is. I think every man, woman and child should get aquainted with what the author is showing us. It will change your life for the better if you allow it to.

I always read books I get for my daughter first to confirm that I got her something right/good for her.This one is no doubt a winner.The titles of each chapter were catching enough to make you curious as to what you were about to read and then the story you read were a great explanation to the sometimes funny and odd titles.The story in each chapter was absolutely great. They were short enough to keep any kids attention, make a good lesson and walk away feeling good that you learned something new and were inspired.The really great thing is, my 13 year old who usually complains about sitting still and reading because she'd rather be actively playing sports, isn't complaining a bit about winding down and reading this book.She loves that most chapters are only 2-3 pages each, but even better, she is mimicking what they are teaching and I'm loving it, too, as a mom.This is a great read, a great inspiration and a lot of the stories are what these kids can relate to.I plan to buy it as a gift to others, but I'm not sure if I should get it for the parents or the kids.

Along with affirming the other reviews on this book, I would like to add that I have recently begun teaching yoga and have found this book to be an excellent tool for developing my class formats and information sharing.There is a wealth of information, presented in clearly stated, understandable and comprehensive text, that I can quickly commit to memory to share with my students, or jot down in an outline to reference during class instruction.Having purchased and read volumes of books on yoga, this is the first I have come across that has been helpful in that regard.Kripalu is a beautiful form of yoga that brings the true essence of the practice to life.

I always enjoy listening to Dr. Kabat-Zinn.This CD presents aa very good reason to try mindful meditation.Kabat-Zinn has a very pleasing voice with easy concepts to relate to.If you are looking for actual meditations this is not the CD for you, but he definitely gives you a good place to start the practice of meditation with the breath.Highly recommend.

I have stubborn chronic insomnia, often waking in the middle of the night. I have used Jon Kabat-Zinn's audio cassette (Series 1, Guided Body Scan, side 1) for years most often to help me to get back to sleep from the middle of the night moving forward. Recently, the tape finally wore out and I unsuccessfully tried another author's CD which prompted me to offer a recommendation for this tape. I appreciate that this Guided Scan is only spoken word which I find helps quiet my mind chatter as a music-only CD is unable to do. I find Kabat-Zinn's voice soothing and at a properly slowed pace (but not too slow)...think of when you read a child a bedtime story. The meditation is 45 minutes long talking you through relaxing your body and breathing step by step from your toes to the top of your head. Often you fall asleep before it finishes. Unfortunately, Kabat-Zinn only sells this Guided Body Scan as a pair of tapes/CDs combined with other yoga tracks which I have no interest in. I also had tried reading one of his earlier books, "Full Catastrophe Living" a few years ago but found that less helpful. Stick with the Guided Scan instead. ... Read more
