1-0 out of 5 stars The WORST meditation cd I have EVER experienced!
This cd is a complete WASTE OF MONEY!
5-0 out of 5 stars excellent introduction to meditation on the breath
This is the best cd I've ever tried for practicing "breathing" meditation.Bodhipaksa leads you through some common sense exercises focusing on the breath. His voice is gentle and soothing. This is a great cd for beginners.

5-0 out of 5 stars Soothing, Focusing, Relaxing
Bodhipaksa's soothing voice with a slight Scottish bur is marvelous to listen to and helps with the acceptance of the meditative journey that he takes his listeners on.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just in time
I'm going through a difficult time at work. All the people in my department who were here when I started a year ago have left and I'm the last one left. The new hires are gossips and backstabbers and I found myself stooping to their level. We have evaluations and our first staff meeting meant to blame and accuse others coming up. I found this book just in time. Alot of this is positive reenforcement of concepts most people know but its great to have the reminder to me about how people behave and when to just let the small stuff go and its a great pick me up. I keep my copy in my purse and read it on breaks when co workers are getting me down.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another Excellent "Don't Sweat" Book
Here is a small gem in the self-help arena.Richard Carlson, psycologist and author, has invested himself in helping people find more joy and peace in life.He promotes stress reduction and 'success' through slowing down and worrying less.He has penned a series of "Don't Sweat" books. This installment focus on the work place. In it, Carlson record 100 tips, tricks, attitudes, etc. that will, if used, reduce help you reduce your stress level at work and perhaps make it a more enjoyable experience. Here are a few samples:

4-0 out of 5 stars Yoga Nidra
This is a very informative book.I purchased it to become more familiar with the scientific aspects of Yoga Nidra, and to help me facilitate a class that I am interested in teaching.

5-0 out of 5 stars review from greek student
A very good book by Paramahamsa Satyananda about the method he invented (as far as I know ) , himself ! There is an audio cassette you can buy separately, and practice Yoga Nidra. For me it is the most beneficial practice in our lives !

5-0 out of 5 stars The Art of Relaxation at its Best
This book is a treasure trove of information; very readable presentation with great insight on medical and yogic issues related to this ancient practice. Yoga Nidra is more than relaxation, it is a way to access the deepest levels of the Self through the progressive suspension of distractions. It leads the individual through progressive relaxation, visualization, affirmation, and insight. Its practice synchronices the hemispheres of the brain by utilizing sound as the means of guidance. The Monroe Institute uses the same principles in its Gateway Program which uses "Hemisync" to lead the individual through progressive relaxation, affirmation, visualization by means of specific sound frequencies. If you think you may be interested in consciousness exploration give this book a try. No dangerous effects..at worst you fall asleep. This book offers an excellent practice that yields results! Great buy at any price. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Helpful
I have scoliosis and this book has been a tremendous resource in understanding and caring for my condition. The book is a good start and it eventually got me interested in taking some yoga classes and exploring some of the different practices. I'm so glad I found this book; yoga has been a positive force in my life for some time now.

5-0 out of 5 stars Real yoga, really good advice, well written
Lots of back pain books provide exercises, but this one takes them directly from the Iyenger Yoga method; Iyenger revolutionized Yoga from the 1960's to the present by applying contemporary knowledge of anatomy and physiology to the traditional and spiritual aspects of yoga.Teachers trained and certified in Iyenger Yoga are a 'cut' above others from my lengthy experience with Yoga practice. That said, dr. Schatz uses Iyenger's methods (Iyenger also wrote the intro) to design a comprehensive program for all types of back and neck problems; she also provides accurate and clear illustrations of the spine structure and related anatomy. The photos are very clear and easy to understand as are the instructions of asanas and restorative poses..The book is the right length, size and format. Many back problems can be treated. This book offers programs for many of them; also included is a self-analysis of one's own current posture and alignment. This is no quick fix book; the programs she recommends may take a couple of years to 'work' but it's definitely worth it to live a more vigorous, pain reduced or pain free life.

5-0 out of 5 stars Review by former physiology instructor and past back pain sufferer!
This is my favorite book for addressing back pain issues. It presents a great foundation in the basic anatomy of the back and then uses this information to develop the concepts that help people understand why back and neck pain occur and how to correct it.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book
5-0 out of 5 stars A beautiful and complete collection of expert yoga information
I am a complete beginner to yoga...less than 6 months of practice and I'm 64 years old... Even with an excellent yoga teacher and a once a week class, I felt I needed some type of guide so I could do yoga at home.Videos went too fast for me and often I'd be unable to see the TV from the floor.. This book was absolutely perfect....as yogarequires a lot of practice in order to become more limber and competent. After taking many different yoga books out of the library and this being one of them, I felt I had to own it because this was the only book where I could find a specific pose, read exactly what to do (and what not to do), see beautiful photographs of someone doing the pose and adapt any of the poses to my own level by adding my own props.
5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely love this book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Freedom from Mara (Illusion)
This is an interesting dimension on the 12-steps which were Christian in origin and spiritual in nature. One Breath at a Time is a Buddhist slant on the one day at a time approach in recovery. One primary lesson from Buddhist philosophy is that attachment and craving are at the root of suffering. Addiction is both an attachment and a craving whose compulsions take over and trap an individual in an endless cycle. Whether the addiction is to a substance or a behavior the illusion that it frees the person from pain is what mara is ... a mirage promising bounties that are empty. So ... for those who are interested in other perspectives of recovery - this is one read to consider.

5-0 out of 5 stars Recommended
This book is well written and easy to read.I relapsed with 13+ years in a 12 step program and having a difficult time getting reconnected. As someone with Buddhist leanings who never quite bridged the gap between the steps and Buddhism I found this book to be of great help.If you are even remotely interested in working the 12 steps from a Buddhist perspective I highly recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best kind of its genre
This book is a must-have for yoga practicioners that want to go beyond simple asanas. This is a wonderful way to learn of hatha yoga's roots as a holistic system, and even put it into practice, since this book is a modern compilation of ancient Indian lesson-texts put into modern English. Hatha Yoga Pradipika means "Light on Hatha Yoga" (not to be confused with modern and lesser imitations that use that title). Holding this book in my hands feels like direct access to a rich history of the roots of hatha unscathed by "new age" ideas. Basically the book is about classical postures, breath control, and cleansing.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent primer for the novice and self-trained
I recently finished reading - and taking copious notes - from The Elements of Graphic Design. As an individual taking himself through the process of learning graphic design without having to go to school, this book is invaluable. White makes the concepts crystal clear and simple prose imbued with his own take on doing design correctly plus doing it well. I've always had a good eye for composition but White's work has helped me see the underlying methods for making my designs better. I'm now building a presentation from his work to share with our marketing team to build a consistent look for our work. His book is a superb work for anyone needing to get a quick grip on design fundamentals, too. Just put them to use! There's no magic here, but there is a right way and a wrong way to do design. White will show you the way.

After an accident & surgery & a long rehab period, I suffered from flashbacks to the accident. I began treatment for PTSD, including counseling, medication, & this workbook. With what I learned in the workbook, I developed coping skills that helped my recovery. I strongly recommend the book to anyone who suspects they might have PTSD or needs coping skills to help themselves heal from any type of mental illness. It is a great way to work daily on issues covered in therapy or a way of discovering issues to address in therapy.

2-0 out of 5 stars Limited usefulness for most people
Wallace is a highly advanced practictioner of meditation. As such he is uniquely qualified to give a guided tour of the stages of achieving focused awareness, shamatha. Meditation, he convincingly argues, can be an effective antidote for problems like ADHD and the hectic, scattered lifestyle of the 21st century. His insights are precious and his intellectual and academic prowess shine through in his writing.

This slim volume could easily be the basis for weeks or months of retreat practice! For me there are certain things I need in my house. Good Jazz or one's favorite musical genre. A comprehensive unabridged dictionary. A quality Atlas. Books. Art. AND MICHAEL REED GACH'S ACUPRESSURE'S POTENT POINTS. Sore neck? Lower back pain? Eye Strain? Arthritis? Leg or arm pain? Then get the book and empower yourself over your aches and pains.

5-0 out of 5 stars Acupressure's Potent Points
Excellent self help guide. I did check with my own doctor per the instructions in the book.Found it a great help in between visits, with excellent guidelines. This book is also great if you are going on vacation, and have an existing problem which could bother you while away

3-0 out of 5 stars The formatting is its downfall
I needed a quick reference for the accupressure points that are relevant to various ailments, but this book drowns the essential usefulness of accupressure with entirely too many words. It tries to present theory and anecdotes in addition to a listing of accupressure points, and ends up being unbearably repetitive. While each treatment has a step-by-step accompanied by photos and lengthy descriptions, a better format would have been to present a short list of the most effective points followed by secondary points for each treatment. As it is, a person who is trying to perform the steps would be too busy reading, rather than concentrating on the points themselves.

Useful in many of my process definition tasks. Essential text for any System Engineer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent SE text and reference
I have just completed the JHU program in Systems Engineering. This book is the foundation for the curriculum and is a very readable, solid overview of Systems Engineering. All phases of the system life-cycle are introduced and tied together to truly illustrate the process. The book focuses on processes, the tools used will change, but good Systems Engineering will stay the same. The process to derive good requirements that are able to be implemented and tested are the same regardless of technology or field. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Trauma and the Body
This book is very informative and draws on the work of many of the most well-known and learned persons in this field. As a graduate student writing a dissertation on child abuse and its effects on adult survivors this book has proven to be a rich source of information, data, resources, and references.

5-0 out of 5 stars Essential reading in trauma work
To me this is one of the pioneering books of body-centered psychotherapy.Well-written, insightful with meaningful case examples. It shines, it teaches, and it directs therapist in their work in profound life-changing ways.I work with traumatized children and integrate animal assisted therapy - and this book has been re-read multiple times and applied in my work.
5-0 out of 5 stars Must Read Material!!
I stumbled onto this book researching PTSD.My husband and I have been to a dozen doctors (literally) who clearly do not know the information in this book; information that I have watched manifest itself beneficially and adversely as explained herein.Modern psychology has gotten lazy in its treatments of the very treatable mental illnesses, and critically needed intervention is shunned as unsubstantiated because the truth behind knowledge, education and an educated support system threatens their "expertise."This book should 'light you on fire' to aggressively pursue intelligent, supportive, proactive physicians and, need be, therapists. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Great first effort
This is the first book I have read about anger.I grew up with an angry mother and a rageful father so this is an issue that needs attention in my life.
5-0 out of 5 stars Insightful, thought provoking
You'll be suprised by this thought provoking depiction of anger and how your life has been effected by your anger and the anger of the people in your life.I didn't think that my emotional wellness was so effected by anger. There is more to anger then active aggression, loud outburst, or fighting.Everyone experiences anger. You'll relate to the case studies more than you would like to think.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book on Anger out There
I've dealt with anger issues for years and have heard plenty of advice and couselling, but this is by far the most practical guide I've encountered.Les's writing style makes his concepts easy to understand, even though the concepts themselves are not simplistic.Les has distilled his 30 years of counseling experience into very useable advice on how to overcome the negative consequences of mishandled anger. While many other authors and counselors major primarily on the causes of anger, they mostly grow frustratingly silent on how to change the negative behavior that stems from anger. While Les doesn't offer a promise that you'll never be angry again if you apply his suggestions, his insights are very helpful in minimizing the harm to others and yourself when that inevitable angry moment comes.

4-0 out of 5 stars A great little review book
I really recommend buying this book. It's better than Mosby's Review, because it actually simplifies the concepts for you. I didn't get a feeling of being overwhelmed when I studied from this book. It's a good review for anatomy in general. It gives a great overview of each system, and I love that it went over contraindications for each disorder/disease too(very important). The only thing it is lacking would be information on Modalities. There just isn't enough. I got at least 4 or 5 questions(it may not seem like a lot, but it is, trust me) on Aromatherapy and essential oils (which ones do what, etc.) on my NCE, and if it weren't for my essential oil-addicted teacher in class, I wouldn't have had a clue about aromatherapy.
1-0 out of 5 stars This is not needed for the TN test for NCBTMB
Nothing from this book is on the test. Yes it is a good book but if you are looking for a good study guide to take the test in TN please look elsewhere I know it has cost me another 225.00 to retake the test!

3-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed.....
I purchased this book a few months ago, because of the reviews on Amazon. I used this study guide, made a few hundred flash cards and aced the review exams, but on the day I actually took the National Exam I failed. I was blown away by the difference between the type of questons asked on the exam vs. how I thought it was going to be from this review book. Yes, it was helpful to a degree, but I wouldn't bother purchasing save your money and spend it somewhere else. It is misleading.
