4-0 out of 5 stars Find out what type of person you are when confronted with change.
This book can identify to all categories of people and how they react to change.I think at some point I have played all roles when someone has moved my cheese.I think I should read this book on an annual basis to remind myself of which mouse I would like to be.

3-0 out of 5 stars Confrontational, enlightening but too simple
This book uses two mice and two little people who look like mice to make a serious point. How do you respond to change? In Who Moved My Cheese?, we see those who immediately seek a new viable option, those who move forward only when a situation is life threatening, and those who refuse to budge.Isn't this what we see in everyday life?My biggest concern about this book is that the question provided to deal with the fear that stops us from moving forward is "What would I do if I wasn't afraid?" This is an example of repressive coping, and does not deal with the reason for the fear, and does not resolve the fear.To learn how to best deal with troublesome feelings that stop us from making the most of our lives,I recommend Optimal Thinking: How to Be Your Best Self.I recommend each of these books.

5-0 out of 5 stars A good slap in the face!
This book is an excellent quick read for everyone. The analogies utilized remind people how to properly, and improperly deal with change and are superb.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Most Important Book I've Ever Owned!
This book should be required reading by everyone!I have given away copies of this book, and have one of my own.I have learned more about life from this book - how to deal with it, handle it, and survive it - then any other book I've ever read.
5-0 out of 5 stars Spot-On
I used one of the readings in this book and one of the readings in its sequel, "More Language of Letting Go," as the topics in a recent 12-step meeting I was called on to lead.I was a little bit fearful about using these books, as this was not a meeting of the 12-step program that might be most naturally associated with Ms. Beattie and her writings (although a close cousin). The second person to speak up after I opened the meeting for sharing confirmed my belief that these books were "spot-on," and so I have chosen that as the title of my review.(You know who you are, should you ever read these words, and I thank you once again.)
4-0 out of 5 stars Great message for daily living
I personally believe in the power of daily practice of meditation and focussing on the moment at hand.Being mindful of whats in front of us is the key to life. This book helps with the task of living one day at a time and growing each moment.Highly recommended. Also, would love if you checked out my book which is similar, "Your Daily Walk with the Great Minds of the Past and Present."Thanks and enjoy your daily journey. ... I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL: Nuts and nolts for learning about yourself
Jon Kabat-Zinn helps even the most distressed of us learn about self-healing and self-nuturing. I am a physician and I recommend this to ALL of my chronic pain/depressed/anxious patients, and it has dramatically changed many of their lives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for a friend.
This book is a bitof a paradox. It is dead simple but quite complex all at the same time.I have utiised the program as detailed in the book in its most simple form.Follow the steps and see what happens. It is a great guide and it works and that is why I bought my most recent copy as a gift for a friend. However the basics are just the beginning. In very simple language this book gives you access to a new way of thinking about "you & the world" and a vast array of quality sources and peer reviewed references to support and elaborate on the ideas presented in the book. This book is the antithesis of most of the self help babble in the market place. It's the product of research, clinical experience, time and results. It's a great book that plots a simple path for those who need to find the space and time for centering their lives, once there, it gives them a framework and any number of directions that will enable them to anchor that tranquility in real time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A study and course in life
This is really a mini course in a book form on how to keep and get you life together. I have practice a lot of various faiths, that have helped my life. So this book has come at a point in life that has fit in quit well. It is a book which you have to take your time and work with. You should follow the exercises and reflecton what is being taught. I would recommend this book to anyone going through a crisis in life or trying to get back on tract after living through one. Do not pass it up. You will learn advice to pass on to friends as well. It is well written and easy to follow. This book is worth every bit of 5 stars. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get rid of back pain - FOREVER
Hello All. I am 29 currently and I have had backpain on and off for over 9 years now. After a particularly nasty back spasm at the gym 2 years back ( where I could hardly walk), I was getting desparate. I looked at physiotherapy, and briefly at some other forms of exercise. I could not find lasting results anywhere and then I came across this book. It was god send. I read it in couple of hours flat. Re-read it next day. Thought a lot about what the author suggests are reasons behind the pain. It is generated from within and the cure also should come from within us. Anyone who thinks that cure CAN ONLY come fromoutside is going to be looking for a cure, the rest of their lives. I analyzed the book ( I am an engineer) and trusted the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars 5 years with back pain, no back pain for 6 years.
There I was, 18 years old, after exercising badly in the gym I developed back issues. An x-ray stated I had a back abnormality. For 5 years I had back pain, evey single day, mid to lower back pain. You know whats its like, the type thats always there.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Dr. Sarno is a true pioneer in regards to diagnosing and treating back pain and has made a tremendous contribution with his discovery of the mind/body connection for this condition. I did, however, as a number of reviewers have pointed out, after reading Healing Back Pain felt the need for additional steps.

5-0 out of 5 stars A first rate book
This is a superb book, and Dr. Bourne shows extreme insight, preception, and understanding in helping the anxious individual in today's stressful world. He seems to know me better than I know myself! I highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered with anxiety, panic, phobias, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and shyness. It will help you to get on with your life! His book will not be surpassed!
5-0 out of 5 stars Relief from stress and all kinds of anxiety
An excellent handbook, better than therapy because you know the quality of help you're getting, IMHO. You don't have to have full blown phobias to be helped by this, so don't be shy about delving in and relieving yourself from negative self talk, chronic stress, or any kind of avoidance.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Help
This book provides comprehensive information and resources for someone suffering from an anxiety disorder or those workling with people who suffer from these horrible condition.I personally found great help in this book for myself and those I worked with. If you cant find apprpriate help in this book you havent looked hard enough. One thing to remember if you are suffering from any anxiety disorder, there is help and you dont have to continue to suffer for the rest of your life.I suffered from PTSD, generalized anxiety, extreme worry, panic attacks , among many other things. With the proper help Im able to live a peaceful life with little anxiety and worry. Also, recommned Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie. I love this book I have had a chance to use it a lot in my practice. It has tons of great information, be prepared a long read it is a medical manual so to speak and it can be a little on the long side, but if your up for it, It is a fantastic asset...

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent text
I found the information quite thorough. It is written in a user-friendly way, easy to understand.I bought this book because it was listed as a reference for the chiropractic practice part 2 exam. This book helped me with the locations of the trigger points.Sometimes the chiro boards like to ask questions on trigger points. However, Leonardi's book: National Board of Chiropractic Part II Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers and National Board of Chiropractic Part III Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers with Explanations are excellent for board exam preparation. These three books are needed for the part II and Part III of the boards.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate in drug-free pain relief!
As a Clinical Massage Therapist at a hospital, I use these books almost daily. In fact, I just ordered my second set. . . The first is so threadbare it's barely usable.ANYTIME I have a patient with a pain that I can't immediately identify I grab my Travell's.This set is an absolute BIBLE for anyone in the health care industry.Travell and Simons have esentially written "The Instruction Manual" for elliminating myofascial pain by going to it's source!Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Bringing the message home
This is a book you will want to share with colleagues, patients, family and friends if you are in an integrative medicine healing practice. Those that "get" what you are doing will love it for its clear description of our vision. Those that don't "get" what you are doing, may very well after reading this extremely well written, passionate story. Matthew understands that yoga goes far beyond his personal experience or any story for that matter. He uses his story to share how yoga is indeed a "waking" of the human consciousness and a responsiblity for us all. His use of humor, irony and candor make for an engaging, personal experience while pushing the reader to look beyond their personal limits.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Connection of Mind and Body
This memoir was a fabulous read.I couldn't put it down once I started.Matthew's story of his accident and recovery was heartbreaking, but the inspiration he provides for all of us gives ushope that we toocan overcome the obstacles we face in our ownlives. We do not stand apart from Matthew, but we walk with him, all of us.I feel that Matthew does not what us to feel sorry for him, but to learn from him that we all can be whole, healthy and live productive lives.I was amazed by his insights and the poetic elegance of his writing. This author will go far.Read it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Waking, by Matthew Sanford
This was an awesome book.A great story for anyone really, but very helpful as well to those in the medical or alternative health care field, as I am a massage therapist. I found the linking of trauma and injury with the body very helpful in understanding clients and even my own limitations or prior injuries, it proves that your muscles do remember and even have flashbacks to trauma incurred to the body.I was totally inspired by Matthew and all he went through and accomplished during his journey back to health and Im so grateful that he shared it with us. It is also a good book for anyone experiencing aging in their bodies to read as well, lots of helpful insight for all of us as we start to disconnect from our bodies because of limitations or injury or age.Very inspiring and uplifting and hopeful. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Extremely Powerful!
Don't be deceived by the seemingly innocuous title. This is indeed a very powerful book. This book takes positive thinking to a new level. As you read it you may find something deep inside that 'clicks', or you may feel that you have known this all the time, but never quite knew how to put it into words.
5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
I have never really been the type to embrace all the countless and mindless self-help books being spewed out by every other know-it-all, but I happened to land this little pocket sized bad boy in my carry-on luggage for a 9 hour flight. I read it, and I have to say I was overwhelmingly pleasantly surprised by what I was left with after diving into this book. I can not at all see where the previous reviewer of this book talks about "lists" or whatnot, there simply are none, these are brilliantly concocted tidbits and stories from both the authors own life experiences as well as others, that make the reader look at a lot of life's ups and downs in a WHOLE NEW light. For instance I could not agree more with the notion that a lot of people, including me, have the tendency to make trivial incidents into major life-altering emergencies, things that we won't even remember the next day are blown out of proportion sending us to an early grave! Instead of almost getting a heartattack because you spilled your morning coffee all over the floor, how about you just wipe it up and pour a new one? When I read this I had to stop and think, because funnily enough exactly this had happened to me, and I was reminded of how I had almost blown my top that morning, but now it was something I most likely would never have thought of again had I not read this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars this is for the high strung, or quick tempered, or negative minded

5-0 out of 5 stars Least expensive tool to relieve pain!
I am a licensed Massage therapist in Hawaii.I stumbled upon Elaine's book and started using it for my neck & back pain.I was pleasantly surprised at how deep my muscles and spine could be worked while I did two simple things Breath and Relax.Although breathing and relaxing is simple it becomes more difficult the longer the balls are in one position and works deeper into the muscles. At that point I choose either to move positions or focus on relaxing further and deeper breathing to let the ball(s) work deeper.
5-0 out of 5 stars Best gift for chronic pain
This little kit, is a really wonderful and inexpensive way to change your life. Like most office workers, sitting for 8 hours a day, gives a lot of lower back pain and piraformis syndrome. These balls are great to relieve the pain. The only warning I have is to watch how long you stay on the balls. In some areas of the book, she recommends staying on as long as you want. This can do damage if your body isn't ready for it.I made the mistake and did too much of a good thing.Release the muscles and relax into the balls, but remove them and relax some more. This is the perfect workout if you hold your tension, stress and emotions in your muscularture. If you do, and try the workout, you will be free, relaxed, and happy!
5-0 out of 5 stars Pain free finally- I wish I had got this years ago! WONDERFUL !
I have been in very good shape most of my adult life.

I purchased this book to assist in preparation for a small group presentation in a Yoga class at DePaul University. The course text (Donna Farhi's excellent "Yoga Mind, Body & Spirit") emphasized the need to understand bodies "to the cellular level" in order to fully appreciate what Yoga does for the body, and provided an introduction to each bodily system in relation to Yoga."Anatomy of Hatha Yoga" took that introduction to a level I never dreamed possible, and provided most, if not all of the information needed for our small group presentation on the skeletal system, especially in the context of Yoga. It's also extremely well written -- and yes, exhaustive and comprehensive -- but what comes through is the author's love of anatomy and Yoga. Some sections took more than one reading, but the challenge was as good for the brain as Yoga is for the body.I will recommend that this book be added to the course material, either as a required text or a reserve resource for students.Highly recommended.

3-0 out of 5 stars better have some knowledge or some time
My title says it all. The book is good, but it is not suitable for a novice. I was looking for books to recommend to new individuals to yoga, so I bought this book. It is good to me, but I have been teaching for 7 years. If you are new lookign for base knowledge, look elsewhere. If you have been practicing yoga for awhile, give it a try! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Ashtanga
This book is the best book on ashtanga yoga on the market - a must have for any person interested in ashtanga yoga. It covers all aspects, showing easier versions of the poses so that the beginner can also follow it.
5-0 out of 5 stars Met or exceeded my expectations
This was recommended to me by my Ashtanga teacher. It has great photos and really complements what you hear in class. I understand more the drishti (eye gazes) and what the modifications to the poses are. When I think about it, I open it up and read about a particular pose that I am having some trouble with. It's really nice to have around.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Self-Help Book EVER!!
I have read a lot of self-help books, and none of them have ever broken things down into small enough steps so you could actually DO what they're encouraging you to do!! It's like the self-help of Self-Help books. So besides having a lot of GREAT and innovative ideas, it's also very practical as well.

4-0 out of 5 stars Essential "Energy Management" Manifesto
As opposed to simple time management, this book covers the much-neglected dimension of energy management, arguing that it's more effective to focus on structuring your energy to optimize your productivity and your experience. To do this, the four dimensions of energy are covered (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual), and exercises and scorecards are provided to help you gauge yourself in these areas.
5-0 out of 5 stars Ideas worthy of incorporating into your life
In the realm of self-help and self-renewal books, I would describe myself as curious but skeptical. So often authors don't deliver on their promises and claims.Despite its self-helpish title, I think this book provides a fresh look at personal renewal and practical solutions that are carefully described in the lives of the people they talk about. It's written to address overworked executives, but it applies to anyone whose life is OUT OF BALANCE. You may not relate to the stories of the executive life, but the tools are thoughtful and invaluable.Using rituals is an old idea, but in the context of managing energy, it takes on greater significance.I finished the book with a sense of joy that I could accomplish so much more than I thought just by managing my energy better.Highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Valuable Introduction andResource
The workbook, two guided meditation CD's and study guide provide the beginner to Vipassana (Insight) meditation with all they need to begin and sustain their meditation practice. Theory and practice wrapped up in one package. For content and price it is hard to beat.

5-0 out of 5 stars So this is meditation!!!
A great tool to help learn about meditation and put it into practice.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good introductory meditation series
There are many things I liked about this guided meditation series.I particularly liked the way the walking meditation was presented.I haven't heard this explained very well on other audio resources, so this was a value add for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best no-nonsense yoga textbook
There are innumerable books on yoga to be found; some emphasising the practical aspects with postures (asana), complete with colour photos - and some impossibly esoteric, meant for the select few with mystical leanings. This book combines a comprehensive overview of asana; while at the same time giving clear explanations of the deeper aspects of yoga, including breathing (pranayama), body attitudes (mudra), energy locks (bandha), energy centres (cakra), and yogic cleansing (hatha yoga).
5-0 out of 5 stars clear, helpful, and complete
The illustrations are clear for each pose. The explanations of the asanas and other practices are very helpful, and the over all presentation of the Bihar yoga discipline seems complete.Recommend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mind Blowing book
I rate the book highly on almost all counts, especially:

5-0 out of 5 stars Yoga Nidra Meditation CD
I have been using Yoga Nidra in my teaching work for years and find this CD to be a very useful addition, informationally and practically as far as the meditation included on the CD is concerned.
5-0 out of 5 stars It really works
Every time I come home from work and feel stress, overwhelming with the everything, I just turned this CD on and started my meditation.
5-0 out of 5 stars Delivers the goods
A friend recommended this CD. I do not know the author, either. I have used it daily for the past month and love it. I like the fact that there is only a voice directing me through the meditation, it helps to focus. If I use it a night, I fall asleep immediately and sleep without interruption until morning (unless my cat wants to be let out early). Alternatively, I use it in the late afternoon to relax from the stress of the day, before beginning evening chores. I am a yoga practitioner and have also felt its benefits in my asana practice. ...
