5-0 out of 5 stars I could do this!!
Finally just what I needed, a simple easy to follow plan. This book is giving me the push I need. I enjoy all the tips and recipes. Thanks Ellie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book, easy to follow
Ellie's book is comprehensive and well organized, making following the plan extremely easy. I love the summaries at the end of each chapter, outlining what needs to be done in very simple terms. I also enjoyed the numerous comparisons of various foods making it easier for me to make better choices. This book is packed with hints for day to day living and very good recipes for healthier living. I really enjoyed this book and felt good about myself and motivated just after the first chapter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very easy to understand
I found this book very helpful. It gives you the basics to eat healthier and to watch your portion sizes, which obvisously will help any diet. The reciepies are easy to follow. I quess if you have read a lot of diet books and still need to buy more this will proably not help you a lot. But for people who really wants some sound advice this book is a good one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The Memory Bible review
This book was recommended by a DR when I mentioned a concern for my memory problems. I have found the book very informative and helpful if a little hard to get into--- and that may be due to things other than the book!

4-0 out of 5 stars Use It Or Lose It
I have always been an exercise nut -- believing that keeping physically fit was the key to a long, healthy life. Now this book has shown me that keeping fit MENTALLY is the key to a long, healthy brain life. By giving up my coffee habit I realized having that wired up feeling all day clouded my concentration. Did you know one cup of joe raises your blood pressure by 14%! Fortunately for me I was able to find a wonderful tasting replacement made from soybeans. You brew like coffee and it even helps lower my cholesterol. I found it online at www.S o y c o f f e e.c o m.Gaining this understanding will affect every move you make from this point on and will bring with it the necessity to share it. Dr. Small's research breakthroughs are phenomenal and I highly reccommend this book.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly as effective as "The Memory Book"
This book takes a very clinical approach to memory improvement, obviously because it was written by a doctor. I found this approach to be of little use to me. I feel that my memory is not very good because I simply do not know how to use it very well, not because I am suffering from any physiological problems like Alzheimer's. I found much more useful information from "The Memory Book" because it focused on memory excercises and tricks to improve a person's memory. I am currently reading "Learn to Remember" and I will report back on that when I am done. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Get off prozac, etc.
This is a wonderful book for those who are serious about using amino acids to balance the neurotransmitters and avoid the need for prescription medications.

3-0 out of 5 stars abasic text
quite a bit of the research on which it is based is now dated, and some important aspects of nutrition have been completely ignored. It does however give a simple introduction to amino acids, and this is a complex topic, so that it is a good place to start

5-0 out of 5 stars Amino healing power
The amino acids in the human body are proving to be potent healing substances. This book reveals the findings of research in the 1980s and 1990s on the beneficial role of the aminos in Alzheimer's, cancer, depression, heart conditions, stress and many other disease states.Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars worked for me
I admit, I did not take all the supplements and did not fully do the hot and cold showers part, but i did stick with the diet and the fasting. The fasting was hard especially the first day but it actually was a great experience, it is almost like a meditation, you are so concerned with hunger that you actually forget everyhting else in life.My skin improved significantly, acne cleared, and the bagginess under my eyese dissapeared.I did loose around 3 lbs in week, which was definitely a big plus. I had more energy but did not start until the middle of the program. I recommend this program and if you cant follow it all the way, at least stick with the diet and the fasting, since that is all I did and i still had great results.

1-0 out of 5 stars Expensive and not worth the effort
If you go on this week long starve your supplements alone are going to run you $100.Then you have to take 5 handfuls of pills every day.I think the author must have stock in the "Twin Lab" corporation because they are the only ones who carry some of the weirder things you have to take. Also, you have to go without food for 48 hours.Doesn't sound hard but if you have a family it is almost impossible. You also have to take cold/boiling showers and do something called "dry skin brushing".I tried it with an open mind and it did nothing for me.The friend who recommended the book tried it with the thought it was going to solve all her problems, and it helped a great deal.So why not skip the complicated starvation and stuff and just believe that you are going to be helped by something simple?

5-0 out of 5 stars Disease wake-up call!
As a naturopathic student I found the book riveting. Not only do theauthors open one's eyes to a whole new way of looking at disease, but theyalso make one aware of how toxic our lives truly are. The book is very wellwritten with a lot of scientific and medical information that also allowsthe reader to understand the way in which our bodies work. I would not sayit is a cure-all for everyone, even the authors don't lay claim to thattitle, but I would recommend this book to anyone who lives in an urbanenvironment and feels the strains of everyday life weighing heavily ontheir health. This book can just save you from that permanent "hungover" feeling every morning. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Great Health Book
Marilu gives 10 steps to improving your health which some people may feel are radical. However, after trying out at least half of the steps, I am feeling more energized and healthier. If you are tired, or overweight, or just feel blah, this book is for you. It challenges the way you think about different food groups (dairy, meat, sugar) and will help lead you to a new lifestyle.
4-0 out of 5 stars Great Advice!!!
I was a little hesitant about buying a health book from an actress but I like Marilu and she seems like she know what she's talking about. The advice she gives makes sense. I was looking for a reason to give up dairy and this book was perfect. She gives 10 tips to make over your health. I'm doing one by one. First thing I did was I stopped drinking liquids with my food. I instantly noticed the difference. I was way more regular!! The next step was I gave up dairy. I lost about 12 pounds just by doing that. I used to have ice cream EVERY DAY!! And I just noticed yesterday that I no longer crave sweets. I'm still working on giving up caffeine, but like I said, one step at a time. I strongly recommend this book!! Giving up dairy is HARD! I'm a vegetarianso a lot of my foods included cheese, yogurt, and creams. Its a lot harder now, but I feel so much better! Its worth it! I just recently got a physical and am eagerly awaiting the results. This book is so cheap you wont lose anything except weight! I hope this helps you!

5-0 out of 5 stars Overall Most Helpful Book I Have EVER Read!!!
I first read Marilu's book in early 2001.Within 10 months of implementing some of Marilu's suggestions, I lowered my cholesterol from 219 to 121, went from 139 lbs to 112 lbs (I'm 5'2"), got rid of my daily sore throat I had for years, lessened the number of headaches I had, and boosted my energy and joy for life tremendously!!I also finally had the courage to leave a job that affected my life outside of work because it was so stressful.I never looked back!!People who hadn't seen me in a while wondered how my face (and my belly) got so thin because I had always carried around a little extra "baby fat" no matter how thin I was before.I attribute it to letting go of dairy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hypothyroidism Review - Excellent Information
I found this book to be very informative and factual. For those of us living with Hypothyroidism, this is an excellent book.P.S.Find a doctor who will listen to your symptoms as a whole and not try to treat each symptom individually, such as the book carefully guides you.Be persistent in your search, as there are actually doctors out there who WILL listen and take the time to help, rather than succumbing to the HMO drive thru approach, as my first "primary" care physician did -- stating that my blood levels were NORMAL, when in fact they were not.Be educated in your condition -- as there are treatment options which will bring you out of your "fog and fatigue" and make you feel like a real person again.

5-0 out of 5 stars learning thai yoga massage
Before I began my journey with Thai Yoga massage I looked at a number of books on the market. When I found this book I knew it was the right one for me.The text is easy to read and understand and the illustrations are clear.Miss. Apfelbaum is someone who is able to articulate a bodywork treatment that is complex, beautiful and above all healing.I would advise anyone who wishes to learn Thai Yoga massage to use this book as a tool. She also has a website, a video (that is great for when practicing at home) and does workshops.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Thai massage book on the market!
With Thai Massage, Ananda Apfelbaum has made an important contribution by capturing this sacred healing art with clarity and precision. It presents a comprehensive overview followed by a clearly illustrated, complete, full-body Thai sequence.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in experiencing
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workbook
Ananda's description of Sacred Bodywork is beautifully illustrated, explained and documented. She has captured the essence of this art and science.I can attest to this as I was with her in Thailand one of the many years that she studied with Pichest Boonhumme. She gathers in this book her years of studying, practicing and teaching Thai Yoga Massage. Shecombines her deep spiritual awareness with a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology in a way that elucidates the therapeutic value of her craft. Its usefulness is enhanced when used with the video tapes although one could learn without the visual aide. I do use this book in my own teaching and practice and am appreciative of its authentic, detailed methodology.I highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent and worth reading!
I just finished reading Dr. Barnard's book and I'm reading it a second time!I found his book informative and explained in easy to understand terms.I think he makes a very good case for reasons not to continue eating a meat-based diet as the effects of a high fat animal diet lead to many of the popular illnesses and diseases we read about today (e.g., diabetes, stroke, heart attack, etc.)
5-0 out of 5 stars I buy used copies of this book for my unhealthy family
I have purchased over a dozen copies of this book for my family and friends, and finally browsed the reviews today and was shocked to see any negative feedback. So for those considering the book, remember the negative reviews were written by meat-lovers that in no way plan to give it up.

Overall, this is a good book. The methods described in the book really works. I gave the book 4 stars because half of the book is a waste of paper. 5-0 out of 5 stars SUPERB!
I have worked with a nutritionist several times in the past. This book summarizes everything the nutritionist told me AND MORE! 5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome !!!
Some people just don't get it. This book is not just about dieting, but improving your life and living healthy. Like Marilu said "Everything is connected to Everything". I never believed in this theory, but after reading the book.. I have definitely changed my mind. 2-0 out of 5 stars Assertions Without Facts
I don't object to what the author says so much as what she leaves out.She makes many assertions, but usually fails to give support or references for them.I would find her much more convincing if, instead of saying "Milk is toxic sludge that only cows should eat! YUCK!" (paraphrasing here, sorry) she would list some of the studies that have proved this to be true.I could even like the "YUCK!" if she had any proof of the fact behind it. While I admire her attempt to change the standard American diet, I found this book to be, frankly, something of an insult to my intelligence.Read more

True he does list some of his own products, but I didn't view that as him advertising his stuff.I viewed it as someone who was passionate about their work and wanted to share and make their research available. This is a man who has seemed to have done his homework.Even if you don't do the cleanse that he recommends in the first book, this second book really just relates a lot of info about how digestion works, and what impedes it.I think anyone could learn a little something from reading it.All of his work is footnoted and documented. It's the type of book that you just kind of pick at.I don't think you would be dissapointed if you are looking to inspire your own personal health research. ... This book is written in a very humorous, conversational tone.I read straight through, not wanting to put it down, and passed it immediately along to a friend.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
As an out of shape 40 something, I decided to try a sprint triathalon. I registered for a Labor Day sprint in February to allow myself plenty of training time. I looked at a few triathalon books and was almost frightened off the idea. As soon as I saw the title of this book, I knew it was for me. It was full of very helpful information and is laugh out loud funny. I felt the author was having a conversation with me. I have attended a womens triathalon training seminar and recommended this book to the group, it's that good.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beginner's Bible
She's funny, she's devoted and she's fat. And she's not young, either. So if you're a woman, no longer a teenager or a 30-something, you will find this book funny (sometimes hilarious) and refreshing. It will answer all the questions you'd be afraid to ask a seriously competitive athlete. (Not Ms Williams is not competitive, but she sees it from the light of a person who's happy she can move, much less win.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Understanding food groups
For the first time I've been able to read and understand a book on eating healthy! The author breaks down the related food groups and explains in simple terms how they affect your body and how you can gain control of this process. The book is not a receipt book of uneatable health foods, but an explanation of what food groups will benifit your body and which do not. It allows YOU to make the choice.
5-0 out of 5 stars Incredible!
I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Weil. My husband got us on to this by listening to the book on tape. We were so fascinated with it all, that we bought the book and three more to give to family. My husband has lost 10 lbs in about 2 weeks and I've lost about 20 in the last 4 months. We had no idea just what we were eating! Now our three year old is getting on board and eating more of her vegetables. It's just a matter of getting educated and learning what your really doing to your body. Once you read this book - get ready - because your now too educated to put the same things in to your body that you once thought were the norm. We look better, our skin is clearer and more glowing, my husband can see his abs again :) and the biggest thing is that my husband is now off of Nexium after changing his eating habits. He has been on it for the last year, and has taken heartburn medicine for the last 10 years. He's been off of Nexium for 3 weeks now and feels great! Kudos to Dr. Weil!!!

I was educated as a biochemist and worked in the pharmaceutical doing medical research at one time. What always amazed me about hospitals is that they didn't pay very much attention to the importance of good food in a similar way that the food industry doesn't always seem to pay attention to food's relation to health. This book illuminates some important principles of eating that are reasonable, realistic to follow and not necessarily widely known. This is a good thing in a world where this topic is often neglected.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Truth Unleashed
This is a great book with Harvey at times unleashing his full venom at the medical profession, food industry and fellow dieticians. He is speaking up for the truth and I happen to believe him. Why? Because I have tested and followed the Fit for Life principles myself and they work.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is an absolute must read!
If you are at all interested in learning how to have complete and total control of your own health and how to confidently and easily live a sickness, pain and disease free life this book is definitely for you. In a climate of ever increasing statistics of disease and ill-health the clear and simple ideas of this book are nothing short of a Godsend. Since the medical profession, the single biggest industry in this country, makes the enormous amount of money that it does by the population being and remaining sick and full of disease they would have us believe that living a healthy disease free life is totally beyond our control. Well, thanks to the brilliant, yet extremely simple methods put forth by this author, the reader is able to take his/her health back into their own hands and truly live without sickness pain or worry of most, if not all diseases. The information in this book is as simple and easy to understand as it is groundbreaking. This book could and should change the world and the way people view cancer, sickness, pain and other diseases. The author explains in remarkably common sense and simple terms exactly how to take total control of your health, vitality and weight by using your body's lymph system (which the author explains is the body's garbage collector). He clearly points out that like a car, our body is a machine, a complex living machine and that after a while due to residue of foods we eat, toxins, chemicals and pollutants in foods, spent cellular material, and other wastes our bodies become "silted up" and require an "oil change" so to speak just like our cars do, otherwise sickness plagues us and disease begins to form. Not only is the information in the book groundbreaking and life changing, but the author, Harvey Diamond, who is known for his humorous and entertaining writing style, delights and entertains the reader with a book that I could not put down until I found myself finishing the last page. I recommend this book to absolutely everyone who can read and who desires to be healthy, energetic and disease free and truly feel this book could turn around the entire cancer and disease epidemic in this country and put the power of your own health back into people's own hands where it belongs! Not reading this book is just like turning your back on a pile of gold the size of a mountain. Thank you Harvey Diamond!

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Pilates EnthusiastsAnd Teachers
This book is excellent , it's probably my favorite pilates book I have. There's tons of exercises for the foam roller , elastic band, magic circle/small ball and a few exercises with a pinkie ball and even one exercise with a towel. The book is very comfortable to use because of its lay flat binding and the writing is concise and easy to follow along with the pictures.
5-0 out of 5 stars A really great exercise book
Ellie Herman's Pilates Workbook on the Ball was such a good book that I had to get this book of hers too.I am very pleased with the exercises, and like having now the variety of Pilates exercises on the big ball (from the other book) as well as Pilates on the roller, magic circle, and thera-band, from this book. Everything is well laid out and explained.I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, to cover all the options, even in such unhealthy establishments as chain restaurants. More than 5,000 menu items are organized by establishment name, making it easy to quickly access nutritional information and exchange options for specialty beverages, salads, and even donuts and bagels. Websites, nutrition information, overviews of healthier food choices, and plenty of facts make this an essential guide for any regular restaurant goer who would make better choices.
5-0 out of 5 stars Helps you make good choices while eating out
This book lists more than 5,000 food items at 60 major chain restaurants (both fast food and sit-down).I've found it to include even the most recent menu additions of my favorite restaurants. It gives clear, concise, easy-to-read nutritional information and food exchange counts.I use this book constantly, and also highly recommend "The Complete Guide to Convenience Food Counts" by Lea Ann Holzmeister (great for meal planning & supermarket trips). These two books put together contain virtually every item of food I look for, and I recommend both without reservation to anyone on a food exchange diet plan.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent guide for healthy restaurant eating.

5-0 out of 5 stars The proof is in the pudding ...
While I acknowledge the truth that opinions are like a-holes...everyone has one...and I honor the right of free expression, I think some folks don't know the difference between the two. Those who blast something they haven't even tried and claim to be scientists are actually hilarious to me.5-0 out of 5 stars Is dieting an exact science?
I think the "blood type" lifestyle is one that does work. What I can say..... is that I have been "eating right for my type" for three years now; and have maintained my weight and never feel like I am "dieting." While pregnant, I followed this plan about 80% and after I delivered, I followed it 100%.I gained 52lbs. during pregnancy and within 14 weeks, I had lost it all!!I think with any diet, you have to find the one that works best for YOU.My immediate, and most of my extended family, follow this method and it apparently works for all of them, so scientific or not, we are maintaining fabulous results. Who said dieting was an exact science anyway?

1-0 out of 5 stars Junk Science (1 star is as low as it goes)
This idea that foods are "bad" for someone is not supportable with science. ANY food in great levels is "bad." NO food (That one is not allergic to) ia any worse than any other. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Finest introduction to QiGong practice
This book is arguably the very finest introduction currently available to the practice of QiGong, especially for those who do not have access to a trustworthy living teacher. QiGong's burgeoning popularity has generated a plethora of both violently skeptical and credulously New-Agey essays. Rather than taking either on faith, you can actually experience internal Qi for yourself and make up your own mind as to its value, using this volume as a guide. Lam Kam-Chuen is one of a tiny handful of QiGong teachers who are fully qualified to write a practical instruction manual geared to the average Western person. For those who want to actually experience the truth about Qi for themselves rather than chew an academic cud of pre-digested dogma, this book is worth its weight in gold!

5-0 out of 5 stars Very good coverage of the topic
This book really does a good job of explaining standing (Zhan Zhuang) and Qigong to the beginner. My sifu had recommended that I do standing practice, and had taught me a qigong set, and I found that reading this book helped me along. Some of the things (such as the Ba Duan Jin qigong set) differ slightly from the way I wastaught, but basically the book is right on the money, and does a good job of helping you understand what everything is for.I also like the warm up exercises before standing that he shows, they really do help. The book is very well illustrated also, which is a plus.Highly recommended, especially for anyone into internal martial arts.

5-0 out of 5 stars Truly great teaching
I should have written this review many years ago but even then this book was highly rated. Master Chuen has written without a doubt the best book on chi kung for the person who wishes to practice this skill mostly through self teaching. I've been involved in the aikido and jujitsu for over 20 years and have practiced chi kung for about half that time. I spent several years trying to obtain clear and concise instruction without much success. This book provides very specific instruction on the complete cycle of chi kung exercises taking you from beginner to the more advanced...and always safely IF you follow the instructions for each step.
