3-0 out of 5 stars Not what I was looking for...but I'm still glad I ordered it!
My daughter is turning eight months this week. She is not eating textured foods yet or finger foods, but she is getting bored with one-ingredient foods and bland food like just sweet potatoes by themselves, so I'm starting to make her some varied purees with different ingredients and spices. Hence, why I ordered this book!
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, But Use With Caution
This is a great baby cook book.My son liked almost all the meals I made out of the recipes and they even tasted good to me.It is a fine book with colorful pictures which made it fun to read and use.
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Resource
These fresh and healthy purees sure beat the processed foods I used to buy in the jar.The recipes are not time consuming and I never imagined baby food could taste so good. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars How to shape up and stay strong.
Just a hundred years ago the average person didn't live much beyond 40: today modern medicine is promising many the opportunity to live into their nineties - but what about fading health and vitality? THE LONGEVITY BIBLE: 8 ESSENTIAL STRATEGIES FOR KEEPING YOUR MIND SHARP AND YOUR BODY YOUNG tells how to live longer and better, with chapters advocating building stress-free years and lifestyle, and telling how to shape up and stay strong.
4-0 out of 5 stars The importance of an active mind!
For everyone who cares about their health, this book is the ultimate guide to self-improvement and longevity! Small is an expert in his field and he offers great advice on how to maximize health as you age.
5-0 out of 5 stars Holistic balance and optimism!
What a delight. I was expecting yet another book on diet and exercise. Dr. Small, however, gives balance with only one chapter on diet and one on fitness. His other six essentials are mental and lifestyle. As Dr. Small put it, "Fix your brain and the rest will follow." The emphasis on a sharp mind, optimism, healthy relationships, finessing stress, environment, and using medicine well is right on. The advice is solidly based on research and clinical experience. The book is very practical and the writing has a wonderfully positive and upbeat tone. Well done! 4-0 out of 5 stars The search
This is a great book as an encyclopedia dealing in the development and history of Chinese Chi Kung, at a practical level I prefer the tapes of Al.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I've been studying Qigong for a while now and credit Dr. Yang for most of my progress. His books and DVDs are packed with accurate and substantial information with good form and detail. However it is obvious that Dr. Yang did not write this by himself. No offense to Dr. Yang but he can barely speak English and while he is able to communicate effectively verbally he is not by any stretch of the imagination fluent.

5-0 out of 5 stars Works Like Magic - made a believer out of me
This book is amazing. For over a year I have scoffed at exercise as a way to recover from repetitive stress injuries. Then I read this book and followed the exercises. Not only has it improved the way my neck feels (a key factor in my RSI recovery), but I feel like I did when I was a child again when walking and moving around -- greater flexibility, no tension in my trunk, back, etc.(I am age 50). As far as my neck, this book is as valuable--or perhaps moreso--than a trip to the massage therapist. Incredible.
5-0 out of 5 stars gentle, simple movement that WORKS!
When first reading this book, I immediately found myself wondering if this simple, straight-forward approach could really work? ...it sure did!! I live with a neuromuscular disease and this is the only addition I made to my wellness routine and worked with it for a year...with phenomenal results! I have sensation back, I'm walking, I just feel better in-touch with my body, better able to work "with" it. I finally decided to learn more about this and "how" it works so I can be the best functional soma (for myself) and help others to achieve this also. Very fulfilling movement - easy to do and very gentle with, I'll repeat myself, phenomenal results! GET THIS BOOK and contact a Hanna Somatic Educator in your area to get the most bang for your buck! Easy to access online to find someone near you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for anyone interested in true health and wholeness
One of the most important books ever written! The only problem is that people don't learn from the book that there is a whole network of Hanna Somatic Educators out there who can help you to learn the exercises in classes or do hands on work with those who need it.That is a bit of a disservice to such valuable work. Check online and you can find practitioners and classes near you.hannasomatics.com is the official homepage, or try somatics.org, somatics.com and other sites you can find on google. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Eye opening and a blessing for your life
I truly agree with the review written by M. Savoie "waxnwane" (Bound Brook, NJ USA). I add that this book is like an owner's manual for the human body. I, too, went to a Holistic Massage School, and I thank the powers that be that I got this book from them! I am learning things from this book that I have not found (written or spoken) anywhere else. It is easy to use, and most of the ingredients can be found in your local grocery store (for the cleanses). I keep this book in plain site in my home, and anyone who asks me gets overwhelmed by my response. If you buy no other "health" book than this one, you have purchased the best one! Someone had to do it .... THANK YOU ELSON M. HAAS for writing this book!!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A great Guide
This is an easy book to read no complicated words just right to the point no misguiding information, plus it has everything you need from top to bottom. This is a reference book that I think is great for people who wish to learn about the 5 elements and chinese medicine. I recommend it to all types of people.

5-0 out of 5 stars User-Friendly and Empowering Book of Healing
I discovered this book as it was part of my curriculum in Holistic Massage Therapy School. But it is applicable to anyone who is looking to learn about holistic health self-care.Based on the Chinese 5-Element theory, Staying Healthy With The Seasons explores the particular energies, meridians, organs, moods, strongpoints and pitfalls of each season. It is easy to read, and pick and choose which ideas you like and would like to incorporate into new habits to try. There are so many ideas for each season, ranging from dietary cleansing, to mental patterns, to holistic bodywork recommended for the season, that you are bound to find some ideas that really appeal to you where you are now, and others you may like to try later.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars AA Bait
If you are seeking alternatives to Alcoholics Anonymous, this book is useless to you & a waste of your money. It is nothing but 12-step promotion under pseudoscientific guise. The research is sloppy (the average American consumes 156 pounds of sugar per year [p. 222] is only off by 100 pounds or so, the story on p. 259 about the United flight forgets the fact that the guy had a digestive virus, & p. 288 misspells the name of the Northrop Corporation [now Northrop Grumman]).
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent overall coverage of the disease
I thought this book provided the reader with an excellent range of coverage and understanding of the disease.Particularly interesting was the genetic link and the proof that there are different chemical reactions in the brain in those predisposed to alcohalism. However, just because there may be a genetic link to the disease, the authors in no way gave any excuses to the victim.Instead, they offered research on a range of options for treatment focusing mainly on the most successful, the 12 step program. This book would be helpful to anyone who suspects they have the disease or knows someone who may have the disease.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional!
This is a great book.It gives you the science of alcoholism and what is needed to defeat its hold on an individual. There's a lot of not so useful information about alcoholism out there promising quick cures if only you just . . . .but this book is exceptionally good.If I could give it to each family affected by alcoholism I would. It's for the alcoholic and it's for those amongst family and friends that don't understand--I think many in the medical community could use it.Insurance companies should really have a look.Alcoholism is a nasty, exhausting, baffling disease--this book was my first step in understanding and having some modicum of hope that it doesn't need to be that way with the proper help and treatment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Profound reading!A 'must-read' for doctors and everyone!
This is a phenomenal and shocking book which everyone should read, especially and including doctors.Parasite related disorders (and there are many) in North America are skyrocketing, contends the author Ann Louise Gittleman, and has become a hidden epidemic and cause for much mis-diagnosis.Since 60% of U.S. households alone have either a dog or a cat, the chapter on pets titled 'Mans Best Friend' is worth your attention alone. You will never let your dog kiss you (lick your face) again!Of course, parasites can invade your body in a myriad of ways ignored by most people, whether you have a pet or not, and can live inside you for up to 30 years and cause many symptoms and discomfort, or worse.Ignore this book at your peril.

4-0 out of 5 stars What you don't know could make you sick - or worse
Ann Louise Gittleman is doing all she can to raise awareness of the danger of parasites in our lives; it is, she argues, a silent epidemic. We've all heard of outbreaks of E. coli and the like, but such disturbing stories quickly fade away from the public consciousness. Most people don't want to think about all the really nasty things that might be oozing their way throughout their bodies.Gittleman clearly makes the case, however, that parasites are a growing danger, and the fact that many medical professionals aren't especially knowledgeable about the subject only exacerbates the problem.Few medical students take a single course on parasitology, she says, because such courses are usually found under tropical diseases - and we in the United States still tend to think that parasites only affect the lives of those in impoverished and/or tropical nations.Gittleman's objective in writing this book (now available in this revised version) is to educate everyone, layman and medical professional alike, on the extent of the parasite threat.By doing so, she is able to offer advice and guidance on protecting yourself from the myriad of invisible threats parasites pose.
5-0 out of 5 stars parasite paranoia
I enjoyed the information in this book. It points out the numerous ways we are getting parasites inside our bodies, what they are doing to us, and how they affect us in so many ways. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great book
I am a new vegetarian and someone told me I should read this book. It is a quick read and I could not believe the information. I am concerned that still in today's america we have this going on. I do not know how anyone that reads this book would ever eat meat again. I became a vegetarian for health reasons and after reading this book I know that I have made the right decision. For anyone who would like to stop eating meat I recommend this book. If I can do it anyone can. I live in Montana and my husband is a hunter.
5-0 out of 5 stars Simple, Plain, Horrible Truth
For all you meat-eating skeptics out there, who look at works by animal rights activists such as Peter Singer and Tom Regan and say "Oh, this is just the griping of whiny liberals who don't Really know what happens to animals," there is "Mad Cowboy." Even though those opinions are in no way true, you should read "Mad Cowboy" if you're skeptical. This guy was a real cattle rancher! He knows about the horrible mistreatment of farm beings and also the health concerns for the humans who eat them.
5-0 out of 5 stars You must read this book

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.

This book has triggered significant change in the life of my family. The best part is that the three simple to remember principles make choosing the right food easy. The simplicity of the concepts backed by scientific research has made this improvement in our family's life sustainable. We have been making better food choices for over a year!

Editorial Review

Fitness is a lifetime commitment, but you can accelerate results and transform your body in 12 weeks, says Bob Greene, best known as Oprah Winfrey's personal trainer. Not for the "move a little" crowd, this program is intense and challenging, whatever your starting level. "It's a bit like boot camp," Greene acknowledges. 4-0 out of 5 stars 12 Punishing weeks of kick-butt work!
This book is very similar to another book the author wrote about fitness and dieting. The format is the basically the same with the first 60 pages covering emotional eating and the psychological aspects of dealing with food. The last 30 pages is a survey of current diets such as Atkins, Weight Watchers and others. The middle of the book includes a lot on specific weight-lifting exercises and aerobics. A concept I really like is the 5 Simple Eating Rules, which can be harder than you think. I also appreciated the very descriptive tables outlining the whole 12 week program of exercises. I gave 4 stars because I could have done without the emotional eating and diet survey sections. All that said, it's well written and motivating.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sly at 60 -- Awe Inspiring!
My wife and I tried Body for Life six years ago.Although we had tremendous results, the rigidity of the program was too much to keep up with over a prolonged period of time.Sly Moves explains how to more practically maintain a superb physique without having to overwork, journal, starve, and become all-consumed.For me, Stallone's book is truly inspirational.Sly describes how he trained for each of his Rocky and Rambo movies, the nutritional and exercise mistakes he made along the way, and what he learned REALLY worked to maintain a well-defined and healthy body after 30 years of experimenting. In ten weeks I'm down 40 lbs., back to my old BFL shape, but this time larger and leaner.People have asked "How?" at work, as the book makes its round through the office.I'm 50, and genuinely believe will possess the fitness level Sly has today at 60 when I reach that milestone.Stallone has proven that it CAN be done, and I can't thank him enough.

4-0 out of 5 stars Practical & Motivating
Being a Stallone fan, I wanted to enjoy this book. Being an athlete, I did not expect to learn much. In fact, being a cynic I expected an elaborate INSTONE advertisement.

2-0 out of 5 stars Bill, please write a book for women!!!
I read the original BFL and found it to be fantastic, so when I saw a BFL for women I was thrilled, without a second thought I bought it.It has good concepts like dividing women's life into phases, but that's it.Even though the author tried to appeal to women, I found the original BFL much more motivating.Maybe this book is OK for women who have not read other books or who have not followed a single program, but for me it was dissappointing, I felt much more involved with a male author than by a woman!!! Program lacks stucture, I can'timagine what a man would think about this book!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Motivational
Body For life is becomeing a classic for anyone starting out trying to get rid of the fat and get into great shape. Recommended for anyone who doesn't know the basics and needs help. The diet section throughout the book is good basic information while discussing supplements but any good protein or meal repleacement will work.
5-0 out of 5 stars This is The Best Book Ever!
I felt compelled to write Dr. Peeke and let her know how helpful her book has been for me. I found this book to have all the necessary material and information in it for me to set my own goals realistically for weight loss. The guidelines and forms are easy to understand and give concrete direction for individual tracking on a regular basis. In my first 10 weeks I've lost 24 lbs and 4% body fat and I'm still going. I've dropped 3 dress sizes and gained strength and endurance. I've participated in walkathons and am training for my first 1/2 marathon in Sept after being sedentary all winter. It doesn't happen overnight. It takes patience, perseverence and belief in yourself. I can't say enough about this book; it's been my bedside reference since I bought it and I refer to it often. I've shared this newfound method with my co-workers and they rave about how great I look! It's inspired them to care about themselves more too. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Home Essential
What I love most about this book, is that Dadd gives practical changes that can be made as gradually or quickly as budget demands. We use alot of the recipes for natural cleaning in this book. But my favorite recipe overall is for the Ginger Soda... mmmm.As my children grow out of their old toys, almost all plastic, we've been getting them new ones that are more natural (wooden mostly). And as they are growing out of their clothes we replace them with cotton fabric.I was very suprised, as I looked at the tags in the clothes, how much of it was synthetic blends. We've replaced the childrens' and our bedding with 100% cotton and we're all sleeping better. I recommend this book to everyone who will give me the time of day!Enjoy and have safer, happier home!!

5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite reference book for keeping our home environment SAFE and TOXIN FREE
It is challenging these days to know what cookware to buy, how to get rid of ants without calling pest control, and what bubblebath is safe. I was surprised to learn that even my home's type smoke detectors contained fadioactive material (yikes) and that even your ironing board can outgass fumes...This book is very very helpful to me, this is info that is hard to find elsewhere!

3-0 out of 5 stars Good book but sadly out of date!
I own and have read this book as well as the newer follow up (published in 2004).
5-0 out of 5 stars How to save a million American lives a year!
Cancer is a prevalent disease that is dramatically reduced by a low-fat, low-cholesterol diet.Societies with the lowest cancers such as breast, ovarian, colon, uterine, and prostate are very low fat.Societies with extremely high fat diets have extremely high levels of cancer. In China, the diet consists primarily of vegetables and grains. Most Chinese are not wealthy enough to afford the luxury of our high-fat foods.Cholesterol levels are typically 100 to 150, with an average level around 127 and heart disease is rare.Cancer feeds off cholesterol in the blood and effectively cleanses the blood of cholesterol.Societies that eat low fat dies have very low cholesterol levels and extremely low rates of both heart disease and heart disease. For example, colon cancer dramatically lowers cholesterol levels, and if the patient lives long enough cause a regression of the atherosclerotic plaque.

Year 1900 America. Extremely high fat diet (think butter, lard and salt pork.) Cancer and heart disease was extremely low. What happened?

5-0 out of 5 stars complete book for yoga
I am a starter for yoga and this bok is very easy to understand. This book is complete with photos and explaination in depth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic
The book is really complete. Have hundreds of photos. I am a yoga teacher and this book is a great compendium of unumbered series of vinyasas.

5-0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary Effort!
I own this book and I have had the privilege of learning yoga from Mr. Ramaswami even though it was for a brief period of time. The book can not substitute for him, as he is an exceptional teacher but being in the United States, I treasure the book as he has done an extraordinary job in presenting yoga as he has learnt from his Guru. This book is a must have for anyone who wishes to even learn a little about Yoga. Don't go for other superficial books when such a rare gem is made available for us. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars It Works!
After reading all the 5 star reviews for the predecessor (Pain Free) to this book," I checked it out at the library to see if the program really worked. The program sounded to good to be true, but the volume of 5 star reviews really made me want to try it out. After about a week and a half on the program, I no longer had bad arthritus pain in my wrist, and was able to get off the glucosamine. Glucosamine worked for me, but it is expensive. Since doing the exercises, my shoulder pain isalso much less severe.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent resource-Poor binding
The book is an incredible resource for women. It gives a new paradigm for viewing our bodies and for believing in the possibility of health. We are well designed, we just need to use our bodies according to the design!
3-0 out of 5 stars Designed for general health, not specific problems
I checked out three of Egoscue and Gittines' books from the library today.I read "Pain Free for Women" first.I have a few thoughts about it:

5-0 out of 5 stars A fun book to read w/ lots of interesting tips!
I enjoyed this book so much I bought another Feng Shui book by the same author. I've read a few books on this subject and so far this is my favorite. Simple and to the point.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for beginner
This is a great book about the basics of Feng Shui.
4-0 out of 5 stars Look at your home with new eyes
I read the 10-Minute Clutter Control (Easy Feng Shui Tips for Getting Organized) before trying this book. That one was easier to grasp, but this one expanded my understanding of placing the grid on my living space.I didn't quite grasp how to use the trigrams in this book though.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but maybe hard to implement...
I thought the book was very interesting and thought provoking; however, I don't think it would be realistic for me as a mother of two young children to implement all of the lifestyle changes recommended at this time. I am hoping to start the process of "shedding," as the author refers to it, but I'm thinking it will be a long process (several years). Also, there is a lot of cost in changing all of your cosmetics, etc. And, I tried the organic deodorant (without aluminum) and I stunk too bad to keep using it--I went back to my old stand by. This is a good book to buy, though. It is well written and contains lots of good info and websites to go to for additional info. Hope this
