2-0 out of 5 stars Repeat of information from other books
If you think you are buying a book with over 300 pages of recipes, save your money.Over 2/3 of the book is repeat advice about how to eat the "real age way".Along with this repeated information from Dr. Roizen's previous Real Age books is "silly" advice ranging from what kitchen utensils will increase your kitchen IQ along with how and when to buy produce.

2-0 out of 5 stars Not nearly enough recipes
I love Dr. Roizen, and Dr. Oz, who both have appeared on Oprah many times.Their not about fad diets, etc., but just eating right.I was dissapointed with this book, though.I thought I was getting a cookbook, and instead it was 3/4 reading and 1/4 recipes.I thought it was hard to follow. "You" The owners Manual is a much better book to read, which was written by both Dr. Roizen and Dr. Oz.

4-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful, but not my local!
I love this book. It's wonderful to get an update on both good and bad farming practices and dietary habits since "Diet for a Small Planet", and wonderful to see so much hope for better eating. The recipes all sound so delicious. My only reason for giving it 4 * rather than 5 is that I'm not based in a large city in the USA where these ingredients are available. But in some ways, this is the point of Grub; a call to learn what is sold by small businesses in your local area, and a call to support local farmers. It's up to me to explore my local stores; for me this means learning to use the ingredients sold by my local Turkish, Vietnamese and Korean grocers, and what is grown by my local Italian, Greek and Vietnamese farmers. Grub encourages all to learn to use what is fresh, in season, and healthy. So I can only actually cook half of the recipes - but that's about average, and the book gives me inspiration to change my habits to find some of my own.

2-0 out of 5 stars A book for the "Yucca Chowder" Generation
"Grub" opens by poking fun at people who get "cranky when the goat cheese isn't served at room temperature", or are "fond of restaurants that serve chocolate-covered edamame", and then goes on to gleefully serve up recipes such as "Yucca Chowder", a recipe which by itself calls for a dizzying list of exotic ingredients including yucca, "kombu", "recao", saffron, and okra. What is the point of lecturing for half the book about using locally grown foods, and then offering recipes crawling with uncommon or downright bizarre ingredients?Where the hell am I supposed to get locally produced plantains, black rice, and pine nuts in southern Michigan?Should I buy my "kombu" organic?Perhaps I should skip down to the farmer's market for the ingredients for their "Picadillo-Stuffed Chayote with Rutagaga-Garlic Sauce."Failing that, I suppose I can always go collect some "seitan" (what the hell is it anyway?) from my vegetable garden. It has been a long time since I read Diet for a Small Planet (written by the author's mother) but I seem to recall simple, nutritious recipes made from a minimal list of recognizable ingredients. If the child of that heritage has grown to believe that this sort of nonsense is sensible, then the whole foods movement she claims to champion is indeed doomed to failure.

4-0 out of 5 stars Half recipes, half food justice
The first half of the book is about how messed up our food and the food industry is in the US. Very informative. The second half of the book is recipes. I would have enjoyed less recipes and more ideas on how to make my urban kitchen, organic. Things such as gardening, freezing food etc. The book is beautifully put together and I enjoyed the content. I only gave it 4 stars because I was expecting something slightly different. ... Read more

Editorial Review

As a result of extensive research into the role of water in the body, the author, a medical doctor, believes that he has found chronic dehydration to be the cause of many conditions including asthma, allergies, arthritis, angina, migraine headaches, hypertension, raised cholesterol, chronic fatigue syndrome, multiple sclerosis, depression, and diabetes in the elderly. 4-0 out of 5 stars A missing key to health
After reading this book many years ago I developed the habit of drinking 2 liters of water a day. What a difference this makes in health. I have only been sick 3 times in the past 6 years. Yes, I follow other healthy habits, but drinking adequate water is the starting point. This books explains why dehydration causes many of our modern illnesses and how much water to drink for your body weight. He explains how adequate water can improve and heal hypertension, ulcers, and asthma and much more. When my wife drinks a liter a water a day her asthma symptons
5-0 out of 5 stars LOVE this Book!
This book has remarkable research and amazing spiritual confirmation for the channeled information that I received about water. Since incorporating the wisdom from this book and Dr. B's many other books of which I have many of them and have read them all, and also through the messages I received confirming these messages through Dr. B's books, I have lost two dress sizes, 2 shoe sizes all without even trying! I have also incorporated Dr. B's books, along with my own research, and spiritual messages into a new book I just published ~ Stepping Into Spiritual Oneness available at http://www.lulu.com/diamondlady and here on amazon within the next few weeks. As a fellow doctor, author of two books myself, I surely have enjoyed reading and learning from this book and highly recommend it!:) It is the fountain of youth that we all have been looking for; a fountain of youth that is free from being found within an age-defying cream or diet pills, but through what we are made of ~ Water!

5-0 out of 5 stars Useful Introduction to Mind-Body Therapies
The editorial description covers it nicely: This toolkit provides an introduction to breathing, meditation, guided imagery, and sound therapy. It is intended to aid individuals with mind-body healing. The short instruction book/journal with 2 CD's and 25 flashcards is just enough of a sample for you to decide if this approach is for you. If so, you might be moved to purchase CD's for each major topic as produced by Dr. Weil and respective practitioners. Taken together with his recent book on aging, I found the toolkit quite useful. Dr Weil's perspective seems practical enough and he's a good guide through the fields of both alternative and traditional medicine. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I've read em all - and this is at the TOP
Succinct, concise, well researched and lovingly written. There are no words.I find no fault in these books.I am not a Christian, but I do appreciate his what others term as 'religious' input ... they are his beliefs so be it.I am a believer of JUDAISM, CHRISTIANITY AND ISLAM (the Islam being a collaborator of the three, and strangly overlooked and passed off as a "Middle Eastern Religion".).But having read this book strenthened my belief in Jesus, and opened me up more to the Holy Bible AND the Holy Quran (I had not ever read the Holy Jewish Book, the Ten Commandments in their Original form).
5-0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Reading
I loved this book. I actually read Richard Anderson's second book first by accident, so I had to get this book. He is very informative about why we need to cleanse and how to do it. It seems like he has one of the best, if not THE best, cleanse products on the market. Many people have had great success on his program. I just purchased one of his cleanse kits and am planning on trying it soon. His book, though, just makes you want to learn as much as possible and be as healthy as possible. Yes, he is selling a product, but the book is not like an advertisement or marketing tool. He gives you scientific data about our bodies. I highly recommend all of his books to anyone that has a desire to learn and become healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars The most mind - blowing books I have EVER read.

5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL MUST READ
Frances Moore Lappe has done it again! She and her daughter have brought us a book that's given me renewed energy, hope, and spirit. Their stories, of real people making a difference, are invaluable. Congratulations.
5-0 out of 5 stars 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner featured in the book
This is a very interesting book. It features in one part a detailed description of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank, who used microloans to help Bangladeshis, especially women, get out of poverty and earn for themselves. By issuing very small loans, the people of Bangladesh are able to build their businesses or working conditions and change their lives. I recommend this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hope Gained From Insight and Diligence
Thirty years after the publication of the highly acclaimed "Diet For A Small Planet", Frances and her daughter Anna Lappe have come out with a potent sequel and a beautiful statement of hope for a more equitable world through the world-wide spread of organic and sustainable agriculture techniques and locally controlled "fair" market modalities now challenging the status quo of chemical fed, toxic pesticide/GMO laden crops, and the lopsided "free" market capitalist WTO agenda that has been reaping havoc on the environment and small farmers everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous timely information
I have been following the SuperFoodsRx food recommendations for about a year now. Not only did my borderline thyroid problem vanish but also over 30 pounds. I feel healthier and look younger than I did 10 years ago. I was excited when I saw the Superfoods Healthstyle audio on Audible.com where I get most of my audio books. I have listened to the combined SuperfoodsRx and Superfoods Healthstyle several times now. Thank you for giving me the tools for a healthy, vibrant lifestyle.
5-0 out of 5 stars A vital part of the road to great nutrition!
My research has indicated that their are four principles of effective weight and blood sugar management. They are (1) Nutritional balance, (2) Eating foods with a low glycemic impact, (3) Eating foods with a lower energy density and (4) Regular Exercise. This book and its companion "SuperFoods RX" are definitely the apex of nutritional balance. The recommended foods are also highly supportive of the other principles.
4-0 out of 5 stars Tasty Tidbits
What I really liked about this book is that it shows you how to incorporate the "superfoods" into your life in small everyday ways, in addition to complete recipes. If you're like me, you have lots of cookbooks and health books with recipes that sound good, but you hardly use. I don't want to make a complicated recipe every day. Pratt and Matthews show you how to introduce the health benefits of these foods into your kitchen and your life seamlessly, including simple food preparation tips and "mini-recipes" as well as more standard recipes.Things like: mix cinnamon and cocoa and sprinkle on fruit; or mix pomegranate juice with selzer and lemon for a refeshing antioxidant cocktail.Worth it. ... It wasn't very good, either. The gist of the book is this:
4-0 out of 5 stars Very Nice
I can't say any other adjective for the book, other than it's nice. It seems sugar coated to me, because obviously she has suffered more than she leads on. OK, i see that the results are fantastic, but still, i just can't believe everything she says. But I hope that's exactly what she went through, because it's very motivating. (I think, because for those people who didn't lose as much weight, it can be pretty stressful) As for the recipes, I didn't try them yet, but other than that I think it's good resource. 5-0 out of 5 stars Handy Reference for Purse
This booklet is a handy one to carry in my purse when grocery shoppiing. It provides lists of the foods I can eat which are good for my blood type.

4-0 out of 5 stars Everything you ever wanted to know about your blood type
Not only did I learn where in world history my blood type "originated", but I also know now why a low-carb diet has been the best thing to ever happen to me.The low-carb lifestyle concentrates on eliminating certain foods from my diet, and those foods just so happen to be bad for me as a type O anyway! It's great! In the same vein, the reason low-carb did not work for my type-A husband is because the food we thought he was supposed to be eating was the same food that can be "poison" for his particular blood type.Problem solved! This book was very helpful to us both.

5-0 out of 5 stars A handy pocket reference for blood type B diets.
So now that you've read Eat Right For Your Type and are familiar with the basic theories behind the blood type diets, you need a list that you can grab and take with you on those grocery shopping trips or for those dinners out where you may find menu items that you can't quite remember as either Recommended, Neutral, or Avoid. This is one of those pocket references that was made to be convenient for these situations if you happen to be a type B like most of my family.

5-0 out of 5 stars Doctors Also Can Learn From This Book
What I like well in this book is the numerous tables, the questionnaires and the lists that summarize the essential data in each chapter.
5-0 out of 5 stars If You Haven't Been Feeling Well & Don't Know Why, It May Be Whacked Out Hormones
I love how this book was written.Originally I set out to just do some learning on Bio-identical Hormones for a friend and found out that I may have issues with my own hormones.
5-0 out of 5 stars The Hormone Solution: Stay Younger Longer With Natural ....
I found this book to be well organized and easy to read and understand. There is a wealth of information about the role of hormones in the body, and the consequences of not having enough as you age.I enjoyed the detailed explanation of the function of each hormone. At the end of each section, Dr. Hertoghe adds a one page table of a condensed version of his recommendations for easy reference. That makes the book very user friendly. The book has information that is revelant to older and middle aged people, as well as people in their twenties.I thought I could share this book with my sister, but we both like it so much as a reference that we had to buy another one. Thanks to Dr. Hertoghe for shedding light on so many hormonal changes associated with getting older. Can't live without it anymore! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing book!
This book is great! Being a full-time student I couldn't afford the DVDs(which are available at sfactor.com), but the book is still amazing. It's not just exercises, but a makeover in a book! It's fun, sexy, with just a bit of wickedness. Before this book, I was the laziest person in the world who lacked motivations, but this book has definitely given me the confidence boost that I needed, not to mention a great body with a touch of femininity. I definitely recommend this book for anyone and everyone that wants to feel sexy.

3-0 out of 5 stars Repeat Performance
Jordan Rubin's Biblical approach to health is fascinating and sensible. However, this particular book does not deliver what is promised. It purports itself to be a book specifically for weight loss, but this very same information is in his earlier book, "The Great Physician's Rx for Health and Wellness" which I highly recommend for everyone, regardless of their health goal. Take it from me, save your money on this book; your money will be better spent on "The Great Physician's Rx for Health and Wellness". ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great programs
I love the programs in this book. I am not currently training for anything but many of the workouts I am doing to improve both my speed and my distance on the treadmill. It opens up a whole new idea of treadmill running when you have a routine to follow.

5-0 out of 5 stars Much needed reference
I am glad there is finally a workout book for treadmill running. I have been doing most of my running on the treadmill for years and have not had any type of reference book. I only wish I had found this book sooner.
