5-0 out of 5 stars Very Surprised!
I bought this book not knowing fully what it was all about.I was very surprised to discover that my 3rd grade daughter has been doing these exercies since kidnergarten, just under a different name - Brain Gym.Many exercises are the same, they just have different names such as cross crawl, brain buttons, turning our listening ears on, etc. They have definetly helped her in school. Her teachers have taught them to her, so I am excited to learn the exercises too.

You have to be open-minded for this book!
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful resource of healing and hope
Thanks to Donna Eden and David Feinstein for writing this resource of hope and healing.Through information about auras, meridians, chakras and other energy systems written in this book, an individual can learn how pain, illness, depression and lackluster occur.Donna then provides detailed descriptions of "energy fixing" exercises and information that can help one to balance energies for optimal physical health and well being, pain management and vitality.

5-0 out of 5 stars Most intelligent book on coronary heart diseas
Dr. Davis has written the most intelligent and easy to understand book on coronary artery disease that I have ever read. This book answered all the questions I had about coronary artery disease that I had been seeking for many years.Even as a nurse educator and lecturer on the topic, I had only a superficial understanding of the multiple causes and treatments. The information in the book is revolutionary, cutting edge medical treatment that most physicians aren't even aware of.

5-0 out of 5 stars If you only read one book in the pursuit of heart health...this is the one!
Finally a cutting edge book that answers all the questions your doctor or cardiologist either didn't have the time to tell you in a short office visit, or much more likely had no idea about themselves. I had ordered about a dozen different books on heart disease from Amazon before I got to this gem. Certainly a long road to get here, but I probably wouldn't have appreciated this book as much until I read all the others!
5-0 out of 5 stars A prevention program that makes sense!
As a registered nurse clinician working in cardiology, I read Dr. Davis' book with much interest. So many of our patients who have had coronary events in their lives have never been educated as to the root cause of their illness, or the approach to dealing with it.Finally, there is a tool that can be used in clinical practice and personal use that is easy to read, informational and inspirational in dealing with the questions that we as health care workers and consumers have in regard to the ravages of heart disease.I find myself frequently referring my patients to this book as a useful tool that demystifies this illness and gives a step by step approach to making the changes in one's life that will improve one's lot, hopefully before they become another statistic.I am truly grateful to Dr. Davis and the people whose stories he shared.Everyone in this field can learn much from his knowledge and wisdom.Thank you, Dr. Davis!!! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for yourself and/or as a gift!!
This book is well researched (including Western science and Eastern traditions), full of excellent advice and written in easy to read, enjoyable snippets, not to mention that each page is designed with artwork and a nice visual layout. Despite what another reviewer wrote, this book has plenty of info that you probably have never heard before on topics ranging from diet and nutrition, chinese and western herbal medicines, the environment, ecology and community, exercise, lifestyle and rejuvenation, genetics, relationships, love, sexuality and faith, and the last chapter brings it all together. 1-0 out of 5 stars Secrets of Longevity

5-0 out of 5 stars A Life Saver for Pain Suffers and Everyone Else
My cranial sacral therapist had given me xeroxed copies of these particular yoga poses that she felt would help me while I got my body straightened out. She took them from an old book that she had had. I started doing the poses but did not stick to them on a regular basis. However, I was still curious if I could somehow find the book. After a successful search online, I found the book and immediately ordered it. I must say it is fascinating to read how the Colonel explain these five particular Tibetan ancient exercises changed his life and made him look much younger than his age. The Colonel traveled through some forbidden Tibetan territory, enduring mountainous onstacles in search of this ageless monk society. The exercises are simple and do detox your system. You must be cautious and not overdo yourself in the fist couple of weeks. I love this book and will refer many people to it. It sure beats enduring an operation which may or may not cure you. It is simply another part of the growing search for alternative medicine and lfe styles.

1-0 out of 5 stars Hyped
This is pure hype. Peter Kelder never wrote a book called Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth. It's title is The Eye of Revelation and has been published by Borderland Sciences since as early at 1975. These rites are very effective. There has been some recent research into what makes these simple exercises so powerful.
5-0 out of 5 stars I like it...
I don't know if this program is going to turn me into a 22 year old again, but I find the exercises worth the 5-10 minutes a day to do.They help promote flexibility and strength.

Editorial Review

Hard, visual data make a compelling case for the existence of attention deficit disorder (ADD) in this pioneering work by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. Using a nuclear medicine technique called "single photon emission computed tomography" (SPECT)--a controversial step, according to some of his peers--Dr. Amen scans patients' brains to identify various abnormalities. From more than 8,000 such studies and more than 12,000 patient evaluations, Dr. Amen concludes that six--not the formerly presumed two--different types of ADD exist. This book encompasses the full spectrum of Dr. Amen's work: from symptom identification to clinical evaluation, to diet and medication recommendations, to everyday strategies for living with ADD (whether the reader is a parent of an ADD child, or has been diagnosed with the disease.)Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Effective diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit disorders, based on data, not dogma
Healing ADD is a very readable presentation of the scientific evidence for Attention Deficit Disorders. It contains effective treatment recommendations, based on real world clinical experience. Insightful case histories accompany SPECT brain scans of actual patients, illuminating the physical reality of the disorders and the impact of various pharmaceutical, nutritional, psychotherapy and herbal treatments.
1-0 out of 5 stars Safe, is it really?
In page xvii of the introduction, Dr. Amen writes "Stimulant medications such as Adderall, Ritalin, or Dexedrine are among the safest and most effective medications in psychiatry". That sounds reassuring until you read the article in Medical News Today (August 22, 2006) mentioning that "Dexedrine and Ritalin are drugs used to treat ADHD. The FDA announced changes to their labels, and possibly those of some other ADHD drugs, to include a warning of a risk of heart problems and psychotic behavior". That is not reassuring at all. This book is writing in an authoritative style - sort of the bible of ADHD, the book that tells you what it is, and how to go about it. The only problem is that it is flawed.
5-0 out of 5 stars Very informative
Dr. Amen did an excellant job of explaining ADHD and the brain based research that he's done in a way that's easy to read and understand. It's a great resourse for those looking to understand how the brain is affected by this disorder and the way a variety of treatments can be effective. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Stop Panic Attacks Immediately
About 4 years ago I suffered my first major Panic Attack. At least I thought it was my first. I realize now, that although I hadn't always had all of the symptoms of this one major Panic Attack, I had had them for probably 5 years prior to that time. My mother has severe Panic Attacks with Agorophobia. She has had it since she was 34. I suffered my first real major Panic Attack when I was 35 or 36. This is a typical age to begin getting Panic Attacks. They normally start between your late 20's and early 30's. I knew about Panic Disorder for many years because my mom suffered from it, but until I had one, I never could have imagined how devistatingly scarry and physically symptomatic they were. All I can say, is that my mom told me to get this book and the minute after my Panic Attack subsided which took about 2 hours, I started reading Hope & Help For Your Nerves. It made me cry. Out of happiness. I knew the symptoms I had just suffered were physically harmless and I wasn't going to die. I also saw how many other people suffered the exact same symptoms. This book, through certain relaxation techniques I believe has saved my emotional/mental health. Anyone who has severe anxiety or Panic Disorder should immediately buy and read this book. It is a very short little paperback book that is very easy to understand.
5-0 out of 5 stars This book is phenomenal!
The insights shared in this book have seriously helped me through some issues. I own multitudes upon multitudes of self-help books, but none of them have compared to the common sense logical and precise insight in this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Hope and Help For Your Nerves
Claire Weekes is so on target for anyone suffering from nervous anxiety, fear, panic attacks & phobias. I have read & been ivolved with other information on these topics and nothing has helped as much as her book.I highly reccomend not only this book, but her other book call "Peace From Nervous Suffering". They are excellent.

Editorial Review

"Health," Dr. Andrew Weil writes, "is a dynamic and temporary state of equilibrium destined to break down as conditions change." In other words, there's no such thing as the type of health that allows you to feel equally great every day of your life. Instead, Weil suggests, your goal should be to improve your resilience to disease, and while you're at it, feel more joy and strength.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good advice presented systematically, some speculation too.
Overall, I think this is a very good book for someone who is trying to turn their health habits around, but is overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. It also a good track to run on for someone who wants to implement important life changes in an easy step-wise fashion. There is nothing fanatical about the recommendations and they can be easily implemented by almost anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone, but a good place to start.
If there's one thing of critical significance that can be taken away from this book it is the importance of eating whole, nutritious foods free from chemicals and presevatives on a daily basis for the rest of your life. It means turning over a new leaf, making sacrifices and learning something new but if you are over 35 and need to improve your health this may just be the answer you're looking for (assuming from the outset you have no major health problems). While I found a few of Dr. Weil's suggestions to be out of my realm of practicality---fresh-cut flower arrangements every day, for instance----most of the other recommendations presented in the book are rather straight-forward and provide a simple strategy for getting back on the road to good eating and optimal health (like daliy walks, relaxed breathing and weekly breaks from news and current events). I had always loved foods like broccoli, ginger, garlic, sardines and olive oil so most of the dietary guidelines, for me,were easy to deploy. Dr. Weil instructs the reader to go to the pantry and throw away---that's right----throw away all of the bad, chemically-preserved foods in you pantry; canned soups, margerines, gravy mixes, bottled dressings, snacks, cakes, soft drinks, foods containing hydrogenated oils, aspartame, msg, dyes, etc. This is critical since it lays the foundation for good health in the coming weeks. Demanding that the reader abrubty cut off his supply of "comfort food" may

4-0 out of 5 stars Helpful but Not Scholarly.
This book is extremely helpful to those who are wishing to quit eating sugar. Almost immediately, the pages strengthen your resolve and heighten your motivation. That sugar is a factor in our general societal health decline, and that it adds to our collective physiological and psychological woes, is indisputable. Many of Duffy's aggregate claims are correct, but Sugar Blues is far more a polemic than that it is serious scholarship. Duffy writes to indict and persuade rather than to clarify "gray areas." That didn't bother me though as I was able to take it for what it was and appreciate it. For those looking for a more erudite discussion regarding the subject, they will have to look elsewhere.

1-0 out of 5 stars good ideas amid bad ideas
William Dufty is absolutely right when he writes that the human body is not built to digest sugar in the amounts contained in a can of coke or a serving of ice cream, and that when it is forced to do so, long-term damage, and health problems, must result.
2-0 out of 5 stars Scientifically lacking
Although it's been some years since this book was published, I decided to give it a read for personal as well as professional reasons. I have no love for the sugar industry and avoid all forms of refined sugar, so I came to this book with a very open mind.I'm also a diabetes educator, and I've worked with thousands of children with diabetes. The author's historical information was interesting and enlightening.I thought, hmm, good introduction to the topic. Then, he started on the diabetes angle, and as each page went by I started getting more and more disgusted with the book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Susan Ashley, Ph.D. Author of The ADD and ADHD Answer Book
As clinical and forensic psychologist I use this book in mypractice with my clients who have experienced a trauma and are suffering from PTSD.This book is an excellent tool to educate trauma survivors about the symptoms they are experiencing and gives step by step tools and lessons to help overcome the symptoms of PTSD.After one experiences a trauma the psychological symptoms that come afterwards, often times months afterwards, can make the person feel as if they are going crazy. This book helps the trauma victim understand the predictable symptoms, the reason they exist and what to do to cope and eventually overcome them. This book helps trauma victims move from victim to survivor.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best books you will ever read.
This was one of my favorite books to read in college. Not only is it in depth, but thought provoking into an area that you might not be interested in. This book takes you into a whole new world. The author is in depth and amazing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Phenominal
From my background as a biologist, this book really covers the topic with strong support and detail. From my perspective as a reader, it's a true page-turner that doesn't just accomplish its point, but goes well beyond.Sapolsky brilliantly makes incredibly complex systems seem simple and mechanistic by breaking them into manageable pieces and using strong analogies, making a prior knowledge of neuroscience unecessary.Humorous, witty, and easy-to-understand, this book is a must for anyone remotely interested in the topic of stress!

5-0 out of 5 stars A fascinating tour of how stress impacts the body
This new edition of why Zebra's Don't Get Ulcers is extensively revised and exceeds earlier additions in terms of explaining the effects of stress on the body. This is a very detailed exploration, but well worth the sometimes difficult reading. If you don't have some sort of background in biology, you may find that you have to read it a bit more slowly.

Editorial Review

One in ten Americans suffers from thyroid dysfunction, yet most don't realize the mental and emotional components of this condition. "This is the first book to explain the hidden suffering that many patients have difficulty expressing and the first book to provide new ways of helping address and heal this suffering," promises author Ridha Arem, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Baylor College of Medicine and chief of endocrinology and metabolism at Ben Taub General Hospital, both in Houston, Texas. This book explains the link between stress and thyroid imbalance; how thyroid imbalance affects your emotions, sex life, and relationships; and how to cope with the effects of this imbalance. Because thyroid problems primarily strike women, a whole section deals with women's health issues, such as infertility, miscarriage, postpartum depression, premenstrual syndrome, and menopause. Another section provides practical tools, such as evaluating lab tests and self-diagnosis techniques, dealing with treatment problems and side effects, and preventing memory lapses and depression. The book covers lifestyle choices that affect thyroid health, such as diet, supplementation, and exercise. Frequent case studies (usually told as first-person narratives), checklists, and questionnaires help to simplify the material and make it easier to check the medical information against your own situation. Each chapter ends with "valuable points to remember," making review easy. If you suffer from thyroid imbalance, or think you might, this book could be a valuable resource. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!
This book is an eye opener. It has saved us from becoming victims of misdiagnosed thyroid disorders.I bought three books: one for myself, one for my son's doctor and one for my mother-in-law. I learn so much about why we are the way we are.Recognizing the problems is half of the battle.I just can't thank Dr. Arem enough!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dr. Arem's Book is the Best on the Market
After reading his book cover to cover, I made an appointment with Dr. Arem in Houston. He practices what he writes. A superb diagnostician and brilliant. I highly recommend his book and Dr. Arem as a physician. A Patient

5-0 out of 5 stars Good sleeping plan
This is the best book I have read yet!And it works.
4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
This is an excellent book on insomnia, causes, and treatments. It covers a lot more material then another book I've read, "Say Goodnight to Insomnia", Jacobs. However, I do have one gripe with Hauri's instructions for stimulus control therapy. He says it's ok to stay in bed and read or watch TV until you get sleepy, as long as you don't have conditioned insomnia (i.e., the bed/bedroom causes you to become anxious and awake). Jacobs recommends that you don't use the bed for anything other than sleep or sex. That means no reading in bed, or watching TV in bed in order to get to sleep.

4-0 out of 5 stars Some surprising [but effective] ideas for better sleep.
This is an excellent book that covers a broad range of reasons, and subsequent treatments, for insomnia. If read straight through, I imagine this book would be a bit cumbersome since it is so thorough. I found the technical information about sleep (in the introduction, but also scattered throughout various chapters where it applies) to be fascinating. But it is easy to skip to the parts that only concern you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must read for everyone!
In a fast-paced society that thrives on junk food, any man and woman should know the extensive role hormones play in their bodies. Hormones regulate all the important activities in our bodies and Dr. Schwarzbein explains what disastrous effect an overly-busy lifestyle and bad eating habits have on your body, effect that will eventually translate into disease and maybe even early death. I really think everyone should read this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars if reading one, read this one
I've read all her books - really wanted the info but it was overwhelming for me and the nutrition/hormone testing part was complex.Great info - read the Transition II book if reading only one of her books!I'm feeling better than in a long time!

4-0 out of 5 stars Sounds like a great plan for optimal health!
Schwarzbein Principle-The Program is the first book of the three that I picked up and I later found that it is a summation of both books one and two.I believe that, although this is her third book, it was for the best that I read this one first since I was then able to decide whether the approach as a whole suited me.I decided that I very much want to change my lifestyle including my eating habits, exercise, stress and hormone levels.
