5-0 out of 5 stars This verse unlocks the heart.
Terry Tempest Williams is a national treasure. Her unvarnished verse carries one deep into the mystery of the Earth and sends us helplessly into the depths of our own hearts. The landscape of wildness breaths a spectacular wisdom under the watchful eyes of this keen observer of wind, rock, desert, sky, sage, along with the birds who soar and dance and play in a benediction to non-sentient life.
4-0 out of 5 stars If you have been affected by cancer it is worth reading!!!
I loved and hated this book. It is beatifully written.I found the author frustrating at times. Some parts got a little long winded about the birds. It takes you on a emotional rollercoaster but the pay off of finishing this book is worth it.Any one who has been affected by cancer will find this book very inciteful to the process of going through treatment and also the death process. Terry Tempest gives the most authentic and honest account of what life is like living through cancer I have every read. She put into words thought and feelings I could never express fully.
3-0 out of 5 stars Suprising turn of events
Terry Tempest Williams is a naturalist living in Utah who has the history of cancer in her family.Cancer in this novel is paralleled with the flooding of the neighboring Great Salt Lake.Overall this book goes to show that cancer goes deeper than the person who it is diagnosed to.I would suggest this book on limited circumstances: One-if you can get past the strong feminine presence and domination of this novel. Two-do not read the last 60 or so pages.I approved of this book up until that point. If the book ended at that point, leaving out the harassment of the government it would be ten times better. To anyone who is in the process of reading Refuge, you won't want to read past around page 230. Enough said.

1-0 out of 5 stars Non-Working Disk
The disk that came with the book is a data disk only, and does not contain the program that created the data. That is why the data disk is not a workable disk, unless you have The Medical Manager installed on your computer! The book is too geared to be used with the Medical Manager Software Program, and is difficult to read it as a stand alone book.
4-0 out of 5 stars Medical Manager review
I am an instructor for the Medical Manager class and have been for over 5 years.I have used almost every version possible with the Medical Manager. This is a fairly good book for students to learn from.As long as the person reads the instructions and then looks at the exercises, they should have NO problems. However, if the person just looks at the exercise and does not read the material, they may have difficulty. Some of the exercise/pictures are different then the actual reading part but not too many.Overall this book makes it fairly simple to learn this program.

1-0 out of 5 stars not very good
Confusing to follow instructions for data entry.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent hands-on resource for Interior Designers
I am a professional Health Care interior designer who is always lookingfor resources to enhance my knowledge base for creating healingenviornments in the health care market.A few years ago I attended, alongwith about 300 other designers, a presentation by a nationally known healthcare designer. At the end of the 1.5 hr. lecture, there were six of usleft. The focus of the talk was entirely philosophical:there were nogems of knowledge or tools we could take back to our design practices tomake our projects better.Ms. Leibrock certainly doesn't have to worryabout anyone leaving her presentation. The book has been delegated to myreference shelf and I am sure will become dog-earred.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Get a real book
This book was awful.I read "The Sugar Addict's Total Recovery Program" (DesMaisons) first, and I was spoiled by more rational, documented approach to the subject. To be fair, I only got through the first part of this book before I put it down in disgust. This book is the rantings of someone who feels passionately about something.Great.Now back it up.You can't justsay, "This is bad and you have to do this!"Well... I suppose you can.But in my opinion that makes for a lousy book for someone who is trying to learn and separate fact from hysteria.

5-0 out of 5 stars ENLIGHTENING!!!
This is a WONDERFUL and ENLIGHTENING work!Thank you for compiling this information and for sharing your own personal experience with Sugar Addiction Nancy Appleton . I have an interest in sugar addiciton and it's affects on the human body and found your book to be a great learning source.

1-0 out of 5 stars Unconvincing personal vendetta
Nancy Appleton has clearly declared her personal agenda against sugar, but her lack of objectivity, organization, credibility, or substance leave much to be desired in this book.I was frustrated by the constant repetition throughout the text, and I found myself skipping paragraphs at a time to find any new information. In addition, I was hoping to find concrete, applicable suggestions on HOW to kick the sugar habit. While Dr. Appleton does attempt to include "food plans," they are simply lists of the good, the bad, and the ugly.I do NOT recommend this book to others. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars From a Patient's Point of View
First, a full disclosure: Maggie Mahar and I started at the same university at the same time on the same career path--far away from the Medical School. Both of us changed careers, we lived on opposite coasts, and lost touch over the years. But that's not why I bought this book.I bought it because I've had some serious chronic illnesses to manage for the past ten years, I've had more contact with the American medical system than most people, and I'm always asking questions. Most are questions about my own care. But I'm interested in the larger questions too, and this book gives some interesting answers.
5-0 out of 5 stars Money Driven Medicine
Essential read for anyone trying to understand the history and mystery of healthcare economic trends and market drivers. Having worked in the industry directly for over 15 years and being around it my entire life, this book is spot on!Absolutely calls it like it is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
Mahar begins by reviewing health care trends:In 1970, health care spending was 7.1% of GDP; by 2005 it was 16%, and is predicted to reach 21% by 2020.At the same time, in 2005 nearly 48 million had no health insurance, including about 1 in 3 households earning over $50,000.(A 2002 IOM report concluded that lack of insurance was associated with a 25% greater chance of dying - 18,000/year.)The average premium for a family was $10,880 and only 59% of companies with less than 200 employees offered health benefits - down from 68% five years prior.Even having health insurance is often not enough - in 2005 nearly two-thirds of families struggling to pay medical bills had insurance.Companies are also struggling - in '04 G.M. paid about $1,400/car for health care benefits, vs. profits of $178/car.

4-0 out of 5 stars useful book on current healthcare economics

3-0 out of 5 stars Tort Reform Ignored
While I found Dr Cutler's analysis penetrating, I was disappointed that he did not discuss in any detail the large impact on medical costs of medical malpractice lawsuits. Not only do these lawsuits increase malpractice insurance premiums of physicians and health insurance premiums of patients, they lead to wasteful defensive medicine, as physicians do unnecessary tests and procedures in order to reduce the risk of malpractice suits. Tort reform is essential to control rising medical costs.

5-0 out of 5 stars compelling approach to fix the broken American health system
Forty million Americans lack health care insurance and costs leap three and four times the inflation rate yet few Americans feel the system provides adequate care.Harvard economics professor and health-care expert Dr. David M. Cutler believes that the problem lies with the inability for most people to understand opportunity costs based on choices that may not lead to an improved life quality. The government and medical leadership exacerbate the problem with saving money as their solution, ignoring effectiveness. He makes a strong case on how much health care has dramatically improved over the past five decades as dramatized by longer productive life spans.Dr. Cutler believes that more money should be spent on further medical advances and that universal coverage for all needs should be implemented so that the present day uninsured can afford care rather than drain at a more costly rate the system. The key is to change from a system that economically encourages doctors to choose techniques that are not always the best for the patient factoring in cost and life quality to a system that reimburses doctors for quality service (not as hard as it first sounds).Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars learning thai yoga massage
Before I began my journey with Thai Yoga massage I looked at a number of books on the market. When I found this book I knew it was the right one for me.The text is easy to read and understand and the illustrations are clear.Miss. Apfelbaum is someone who is able to articulate a bodywork treatment that is complex, beautiful and above all healing.I would advise anyone who wishes to learn Thai Yoga massage to use this book as a tool. She also has a website, a video (that is great for when practicing at home) and does workshops.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best Thai massage book on the market!
With Thai Massage, Ananda Apfelbaum has made an important contribution by capturing this sacred healing art with clarity and precision. It presents a comprehensive overview followed by a clearly illustrated, complete, full-body Thai sequence.I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in experiencing
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent workbook
Ananda's description of Sacred Bodywork is beautifully illustrated, explained and documented. She has captured the essence of this art and science.I can attest to this as I was with her in Thailand one of the many years that she studied with Pichest Boonhumme. She gathers in this book her years of studying, practicing and teaching Thai Yoga Massage. Shecombines her deep spiritual awareness with a detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology in a way that elucidates the therapeutic value of her craft. Its usefulness is enhanced when used with the video tapes although one could learn without the visual aide. I do use this book in my own teaching and practice and am appreciative of its authentic, detailed methodology.I highly recommend it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars THE book on depression
If you're looking to treat depression without using drugs, this is the book to get.The book is packed with almost every type of therapy known to cure depression. If there's any academic research on the subject, Baumel mentions the study and also tells us whether it's an uncontrolled or controlled study (something I appreciate as an academic). He usually explains how the study was conducted in enough detail that it can be replicated at home. This means that he included supplement dosages and length of time needed to see results. He also mentions how to purchase St. John's Wort and light therapy devices, which could save hundreds of dollars.
4-0 out of 5 stars Fixes a lot of myths, a must have for Dr's and smart people
This is defintely an overall positive book on a very negative topic. The author here explains a lot of different ways that you can get the serotinin back to normal without having to deal with drug therapy.
5-0 out of 5 stars BEST OF THE CHOICES
As a psychologist wanting my clients to be educated on the biochemistry of depression and possible solutions, I have found this to be the best of all the alternatives I have read.It discusses all the treatments rather than focusing on one alone, as many books do.It is well written, easy to understand, and treats the reader as if he or she is intelligent enough to grasp a good deal of information.I think this book would help everyone in therapy, and would also help therapists in their attempts to help. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Textbook for Long-term care Nursing Assistants
I bought this book along with other recommended reference booksfor CNAs, and in my opinion this one is the best.It is absolutely a pleasure to read, easy to follow procedures, great color pictures and illustrations.Very user-friendly format.I was actually looking forward to study time using this book.2-0 out of 5 stars Out of date in body mechanics/transfers/safety
As a nursing instructor working closely with rehab we found this book out of date, with no changes in transfers, body mechanics that have been updated for safety throughout the years. The demos show transfers with staff using poor body mechanics, leaning over residents, not using lower legs using lower back muscles. Moving a person to the side of the bed technique demonstratess segmental movement taking the resident out of body alignment. There are up to date techniques for this. Mercury thermometers are no longer used. A two person transfer to the wheelchair in this book involves picking up the resident from the back and lifting with someone in the front with the legs. if a resident needs this then a hoyer a must. For back safety! The Essentials of Nursing Assistants by Mosby Second Edition, includes the same outdated pictures and demonstrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mosby's Textbook for Long-term Care Assistants
As a teacher of nursing assistants, I find the book to be the most helpful.Easy reading, descriptive drawings for the procedures they must learn and practice.I am looking forward to an addition of a "student Workbook".Although this textbook does has excellent chapter reviewswith practice questions and answers. The State exam is 100 questions longand this helps them with not fearing answering multiple choice questions. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars The committee approach
This is a book which, despite being written by a committee and showing it, has a definite point of view.It is somewhat superficial, but contains a fairly good review of the literature on medical error and some definiteideas about what to do.This is the book for policy wonks who areinterested both in health care and in government intervention.Thoselooking for more in-depth treatment of the subject would do well toconsider Human Error in Medicine, edited by Marilyn Sue Bogner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Everyone should read this book

1-0 out of 5 stars Haved looked or cared for it yet
I got this book and honestly found it a big disappointment. Most of the info in it is in other books and the recipes really arent any big deal.I knew most of the nutrition info already. If you already have a library of FM or nutrition info, this book is pointless.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books!!
Of all the books i have purchased on fibromyalgia- this is the best. This has become my 'bible' on nutrition for treatment of fibromyalgia. I highly recommend this book!!!It has great information on grains, problems with additives, metals and other toxins, essential vitamins and minerals to take and which ones to avoid and also contains some great recipes!!!With the guiding help of this book, i have been able to do well managing my fibromyalgia and it has helped me feel good enough to start an exercise program.

2-0 out of 5 stars Loaded with nutritional facts - Lacking application
The book has lots to offer if you want a quick reference as to what role vitamins and minerals play in the human body. It also discusses different herbs, flours and sweeteners.
