Let me start off by saying that I am not doing the Protein Power plan.I'm on another low-carb plan, and wholehearedly endorce any low-carb approach because THEY WORK!
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent
This book is excellent. I'm convinced that the information contained in this book is valid. Not just because the author's provide plenty of relevant scietific information to support the diet, but mostly because after trying the diet plan I immediatedly began to feel healthier. I know there are lots of smart people who might argue against this diet, but I'll listen to my own body before any MD, Phd or whatever. I'd give this book my highest recommendation not only to people who are trying to loose weight, but to people in general.

5-0 out of 5 stars Veteran's Survival Guide...Don't File a Claim without it!!!
Excellent book, that covers all aspects of filing for benefits from the Veterans Administration. John Roche also provides email assistance for specific questions. I would think that this should be required reading for all Service officers and their veterans. TOP NOTCH A+++

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Veterans Guide Ever
I have served in two previous wars, Vietnam and Desert Storm and also on several other long tours of peace time duty. When I was recalled from retirement to go to Iraq I was already a 10% disabled veteran. I thought I knew, or at least thought I had a better then average laymans knowledge of the VA Compensation and Pension system. Little did I know, until I read Mr. Roche's book how little I really knew and what misconceptions I had. This book is a must for every armed forces veteran who has served in war or peace and has ever been injured or treated for an illness while on active duty. Mr. Roche writes in a clear and concise style and he presents the facts without being dry and technical. This book is a must purchase.
5-0 out of 5 stars I bought this book and doubled my VA disability pension
This book is a nuts and bolts no nonsense hands on Bible for veterans claims. I used it to increase my disability from 40% to 60%. It exposed the mystery of how the VA handles claims and explains how to prove a claim to the VA.I would like to see the author write another book focused on appeals. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars !!!
Excellent book. For those who are still not convinced about the link between mercury and autism I strongly recommend the book "Mercury: The Winged Messenger".

5-0 out of 5 stars I read it twice, and I'm still angry!
A lot has been said about blatant coverup and shoddy science exposed in this book by David Kirby. It looks like there's some movement now, certainly at least in part due to this book. The Senate just passed the Combating Autism Act of 2006, and it's now on to the House.
4-0 out of 5 stars Explanationsfor Autism Epidemic
I thank the families mentioned in this book. Each one tried to help their autistic child and wanted an answer to what caused Autism. Some of them started SafeMinds as a result of their research and inquiries.I was born in 1977 and have an ASD so the possible thimerosal in vaccinations causing the Autism epidemic in the 1990s would not explain me. Thimerosal (p. 48) is 49.6 percent organic mercury used as a preservative in vaccinations.Organic mercury (p. 48) is the second most toxic substance on earth. Forget about "polluting" our air and water, and ask why are we putting toxic materials into children?People are more important than the earth! For some reason The Center for Disease and Control and The Institute of Medicine along with Lilly (a vaccine manufacturer) have not cooperated with them in answering their questions or giving them help. Why would Dr. Thomas Verstraeten go to Belgium in 2001 after leading a study on vaccination datalink study on thimerosal, be told not to answer any contacts from people in America about vaccinations, and to escape subpeonas (p. 341)? I appreciate Congressmen Dan Burton (R-IN) and Dave Weldon (R-FL) for listening to these families, holding hearings (I have called their offices to thank them), and talking the CDC and IOM into getting the public answers to autism and thimerosal. ... Wow !!!
5-0 out of 5 stars "IN-COMING!!!!"
Peter Rost drops a bomb on the pharmaceutical industry in this fast-paced expose.I wish I had kept as detailed notes and records of my pharma career - my own book would have been a lot better.Dr. Rost doesn't just crack open the door to the drug industry; he kicks the damn thing down like The Terminator. The author, however, doesn't limit his criticism to only the drug companies; he is amazingly candid with his own mistakes, a refreshing and welcome addition that serves to increase his credibility.Readers will appreciate Rost's keen eye, as well as his ability to explain potentially tedious material in an interesting way. It's hard to believe post-Enron that companies can still be dumb enough to ignore the concerns of well-intentioned employees, concerns that have huge moral, legal and financial implications. This book will be eye opening for the uninitiated and sobering for industry veterans. For all, it should be required reading before your next trip to the doctor's office!

5-0 out of 5 stars How to empower health care consumers

5-0 out of 5 stars Huge but a litle simplistic
Sub-Title: Implications for Providers, Players, and Policy-Makers --,Citizen participation, Consumer satisfaction, Evaluation, Health & Fitness, Health Care Administration, Health Care Delivery, Health Care Issues, Health Policy, Health planning, Health/Fitness, Medical / Nursing, Patient Compliance, Patient satisfaction, Health systems & services, Medical / Administration, Personal & public health, Medical ==If your interests or profession lies in any area of health care this is a book that you almost have to have. In its almost 1,000 pages nearly every aspect of health care coverage is discussed. The format of the book includes some 200 pages written by Professor Herslinger followed by some 72 articles written by some 93 participants in a conference she held. As you would expect, the quality of the papers vary greatly. ==There are also a few reasons to disagree with some of Professor Herslingers basic thesis. She seems to believe that health insurers would compete in a fair market place to provide care to anyone. This is simply not true. If an insurance company can pre-select to eliminate giving any coverage at all to the sicker or more risky patients, it is to their benefit. An AIDS patient, with a requirement for expensive drugs can be folded into the coverage written for a large group, but an individual policy would have to be very expensive, or simply not written at all. The coverage of such patients is covered with what I think are unrealistic assumptions. ==The book presents a series of views that are just a bit simplistic, but which are forming a part of the national debate on health care. The information is needed if only to be aware of the discussion.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful Contribution
In Consumer-Driven Health Care, Regina E. Herzlinger, a leading health care thought leader and a professor at the Harvard Business School, provides a thought-provoking look inside a new, powerful force slowly transforming America's dysfunctional health care industry. Consumer-Driven Health Care builds on her popular 1997 book Market-Driven Health Care: Who Wins, Who Loses in the Transformation of America's Largest Service Industry.

2-0 out of 5 stars WORD GAMES
AGELESS BODY is Deepak's attempt to neutralize the word "old" as in old age.The writer has a knack for making common words, like "body, "mind" and "self," into profound concepts. His technique is to overlay his abstract ideas with suggestive experimental studies. But ambiguity in interpreting these studies abound.
3-0 out of 5 stars To Live To Eternity...
How would it feel to live forever; could you feel young when your body looks old.Your body is aging beyond your control because it has been programmed to live out the rules of collective conditioning. What you need is the body/mind connection.Beginning at age 30, the average human body starts to come unhinged: wrinkles appear, skin loses tone and freshness, muscles sag, fat catches up with muscle, eyesight and hearing taper off.As the bones thin and become brittle and break easily, stamina and endurance decline. You just can't do the things you are used to doing. To transform the patterns of the past, you must know what they are made of and how to stop the progress of deterioration. 4-0 out of 5 stars Good book that details Holistic approach to living longer

There is ample evidence America has a serious problem with poor quality health care.Thankfully, there is no shortage of caring professionals motivated to improve care and the problems are solvable. As with any effort to improve performance, measurement is the first step to improving care and reducing medical mistakes. As I often remind clients and colleagues: you can't fix what you can't see.

5-0 out of 5 stars MemoryMinder Personal Health Journal
For me, this journal is an excellent way to enter information about my migraines/health habits in one place. It's a perfect resource to show my neurologist so she can peruse my journal to see if there are any triggers causing my pain as well checking on my medications (if they are doing more harm than good.)The journal is very well organizationed, and it is ideal for people who have "invisible" health problems:headache, fibromyalgia, etc. Also as a patient or a doctor you might be able to see some patterns that my contribute to your health problem (i.e. not enough sleep, exercise, eating, etc.)It's very handy; you can carry it in your bag or briefcase so you don't forget to write any pertinent information in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars An ideal way to keep track of health and wellness
Most everyone who has been diagnosed with a chronic illness has been told to keep a journal of symptoms, medications, side effects, mood swings and a variety of other things. Keeping track of numerous health issues while feeling miserable was very difficult for me. I needed something that was organized and precise. The Memory Minder is just that. It allows me to keep all my personal health information in a convenient and easy-to-retrieve format. I'm able to look back and see when I started or stopped medications, discover patterns, and report to doctors clearly without wasting time. The book is also helpful for anyone applying for disability. The Memory Minder is a helpful product that I would recommend to anyone with a desire to track their personal health and wellness.

5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Health Journal I've Seen!
In my work, I see and evaluate many health journals. This one is, by far, the best I have ever seen. I will be recommending it to all the readers and patients with whom I work. Keeping one journal page per day, this will let you journal for three months. The plastic spiral binding lets it lie flat, and the ends of the binding don't snag. The vinyl cover makes it quite durable, and it's size allows you to carry it with you quite easily. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous timely information
I have been following the SuperFoodsRx food recommendations for about a year now. Not only did my borderline thyroid problem vanish but also over 30 pounds. I feel healthier and look younger than I did 10 years ago. I was excited when I saw the Superfoods Healthstyle audio on Audible.com where I get most of my audio books. I have listened to the combined SuperfoodsRx and Superfoods Healthstyle several times now. Thank you for giving me the tools for a healthy, vibrant lifestyle.
5-0 out of 5 stars A vital part of the road to great nutrition!
My research has indicated that their are four principles of effective weight and blood sugar management. They are (1) Nutritional balance, (2) Eating foods with a low glycemic impact, (3) Eating foods with a lower energy density and (4) Regular Exercise. This book and its companion "SuperFoods RX" are definitely the apex of nutritional balance. The recommended foods are also highly supportive of the other principles.
4-0 out of 5 stars Tasty Tidbits
What I really liked about this book is that it shows you how to incorporate the "superfoods" into your life in small everyday ways, in addition to complete recipes. If you're like me, you have lots of cookbooks and health books with recipes that sound good, but you hardly use. I don't want to make a complicated recipe every day. Pratt and Matthews show you how to introduce the health benefits of these foods into your kitchen and your life seamlessly, including simple food preparation tips and "mini-recipes" as well as more standard recipes.Things like: mix cinnamon and cocoa and sprinkle on fruit; or mix pomegranate juice with selzer and lemon for a refeshing antioxidant cocktail.Worth it. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Review from a former Statin Patient
Unless you have been on Statins and have experienced the negative side effects that they can cause, you won't appreciate this book.I am a college educated, experienced professional, who experienced VERY disturbing side effects while on Statins (memory loss, fatigue, muscle pain, etc.).Don't buy into the "I'm a Doctor, I'm a Scientist, I should know" B.S. from some reviews of this text.Trust your gut and question everything that anyone tells you to put into your body - M.D. or Naturalist.Anyone pushing a hard sell has an agenda - usually monetary.
1-0 out of 5 stars Review by a cardiologist with extensive experience with use of the statin agents.
As a practicing, invasive and non-invasive cardiologist specializing in the still rare practice of preventive medicine, this book (and other similar writings under the guise of enlightened information) is largely unfortunate, especially for those readers also suspicious, gullible and paranoid, who are looking to spend their time & money to further support their existing ideas. I have personally taken statins and recommended them to all members of my family (though only those members I respect and for whom I fell some love) since 1990, well before good double-blind, placebo controlled, prospective trial treatment outcome data was available. Naturally, for self interest reasons, I have also watched the scientific evidence about human (and animal) responses to statin treatment overtime very closely.

4-0 out of 5 stars A good place to start
Mary-Jane Schneider's "Introduction to Public Health" is just what she claims it is - an introduction. The book is a very concisely and clearly-written overview on a range of public health topics such as water quality, epidemiology, and chronic diseases.Schneider divides the book into seven parts that look at the definition of public health, analytical methods of public health, public health'sbiomedical basis, social and behavioral factors, environmental issues, medical care, and the future of public health. The book should be valued not for its depth but its breadth - Schneider does cover a variety of important public health topics but she does not go into great detail.Including a list of resources or suggested reading at the end of each chapter would have been greatly appreciated. However, to Schneider's credit, the book does have cute illustrations and includes numerous charts, graphs, and discussion questions at the end of every chapter. The book is also very readable and isn't as daunting or dry as some other public health textbooks. This book is a great complement to Bernard Turnock's introduction to public health, as Turnock does go into some of the nitty gritty of public health but doesn't cover as many issues as Schneider does.

4-0 out of 5 stars Truly a wonder
Truly a wonder. Not only is it full of useful information, well organized, thorough, and insightful - it's readable!!!For once, I could not put a book (other than a novel!) down! The author kept my interest alive with the excellent use of the language and the ability to keep even sub-sub-sections organized and to the point.Read more
