5-0 out of 5 stars LIFE CHANGING
I read this book and am now going key by key. This book has helped give me have a different outlook on life. You are changing the way you live. This is not a "do it quick" book; it shows you how to change your life for the better. You need to do it on your own schedule.
4-0 out of 5 stars I love books!
I enjoy reading Joyce's books because I like how down to earth she is and she just hits home for me. I got a little bored with this book I suppose because there is a lot of practical advice and commonsense advice. A lot of the things I have read in numerous other books on health and my walk with God so maybe that is why it was repitious to me. There are a lot of good key points and it is a good book to reference to and take to heart and try to follow. There are some good things to copy and print and try to keep a journal and follow each day.

5-0 out of 5 stars Absolutely the Best "Healthy Living" Book
I bought this book not quite sure what I was getting, but the concept sounded good.I began the book on a Friday and finished it by Sunday night.I am a Christian so I agree wholeheartedly about Key 1 - Letting God do the Heavy Lifting. Our willpower is our best friend when things are going well, but our downfall when things aren't so peachy. Willpower then takes its leave and in comes reason and believe me, I can reason my way into or out of anything!I'm too tired, I don't want to go to the store, it is just one bite, it won't hurt anything, I don't want to get up early, I don't want to walk - I'm in a hurry, etc. Reason will always let you down. The bible says we are led by God's Spirit, not our own willpower."Not by might, not by power (or willpower), but by My Spirit says the Lord of hosts".Willpower isn't a bad thing, but instead of relying on it, Joyce teaches us to rely on His Spirit instead.Call on God and ask Him for His strength, His peace, His Joy!

5-0 out of 5 stars Dietary Cancer cure
I'm not a doctor nor a scientist, but I've been studying optimal health and wellness for over 5 years now. Most people seem to have this notion that only medical doctors know what's best for our bodies, but from my research, I beg to differ.
4-0 out of 5 stars BACK TO NATURE
THE BOOK WAS VERY ENLIGHTENING AND EASY TO READ. IT MADE ME BELIEVE THAT THE BEST WAY TO CURE DISEASES IS PREVENTION.ALSO, BACK TO NATURE....NATURAL PRODUCTS AND NATURAL FOODS.SOUNDS REASONABLE TO ME. I HAVE ALREADY STARTED ON THE FLAX ROUTINE.

5-0 out of 5 stars Flax Oil As a True Aid Against Arthritis Heart Infrraction Cancer and Other Diseases
I am not a writer or a reviewer, but I am a cancer victim. This book is a series of lectures delivered to her peers over a long career. It's ironic that while most of them are busy peddling other expensive treatments to their patients, they themselves were taking their family members to see Dr. Budwig and follow her advice.2 of my brothers also have cancer. They are using conventional treatments and taking prescribed medications. They are both overweight and not so agile anymore as we are all retired. They both rejected my offers to let them read my books.I on the other hand while being the 2nd oldest at 70 am agile, my weight is same as when I graduated from high school and cancer is shrinking and leaving my body.I excercise daily and can nearly lift my own body weight. My high blood pressure has gone from nearly 240/115 down to in the 145/85 range in about 6 weeks since reading this book and starting the diet, while giving up all other medications.Basically I have gone from a meat eater to a vegetarian and avoid sugar entirely.I eat her spread in the morning and with 2 other meals daily and now feel superb. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT guide and information. GREAT!!
I have heard a lot about superfoods for some time but have not seen many books devoted to the topic and that explain the super foods well. This book is wonderful and highlights 14 super foods and the related family member foods. It explains why they are super in a way that is understandable and valuable. One of the best and most useable books I have read on this subject. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
5-0 out of 5 stars GREAT BooK
This book is filled with the nutritional information that we all need to be healthy. It's sad how lazy our society has become when we won't even take the time to throw a few things that are healthy together and instead eat processed death food at Mickey D's.Great Book, easy to read, interesting all the way through, easy to put into practice and comes with not only recipes but lists of suppliers for healthy eating.

5-0 out of 5 stars A cornerstone of healthy eating.
My research has indicated that their are four principles of effective weight and blood sugar management. They are (1) Nutritional balance, (2) Eating foods with a low glycemic impact, (3) Eating foods with a lower energy density and (4) Regular Exercise. This book and its companion "SuperFoods HealthStyle" are definitely the apexof nutritional balance. The recommended foods are also highly supportive of the other principles.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Research
This is a well researched book (really well) and uses easy to understand language. It was a bit confusing to me in the beginning since he used some flashback type story telling. I was hoping to pull some powerful statistics out of this book, but was only to get some weak ones. This a a great book to have if you like having evidence that the U.S. Government is no saviour.

5-0 out of 5 stars Dangerous Doses
This is an outstanding book every American should read. This book was recommended to me by a Vice President of a large mail order pharmacy corporation.I am the Assistant Vice President for Supply Chain Pharmacy Operations of a large healthcare system. As such I am responsible for making our Supply Chain Pharmacy Operations more safe and efficient. This book has been an eye opener for me.I have already quoted it several times in meetings and on conference calls. We all need to be engaged in making our healthcare supply chain as safe and efficient as possible. This is a non-fiction book, but it reads like a fiction one because its so unbelievable. It could very easily be made into a movie and be very successful in that media.

4-0 out of 5 stars More Government Bungling!
While the FDA and drug companies rail about the potential dangers of imported drugs, they ignore or downplay reports about adulterated, counterfeit drugs from within the U.S., and fight efforts to improve the reliability of the system. Meanwhile, law-enforcement efforts to correct the problem are frequently blocked by political intervention for donors, legal threats, a patch-work of varying State laws, fraudulent paperwork, regulators giving drug wholesaling licenses to known criminals, and inter-departmental squabbling over who's in charge or gets the credit.

"Health," Dr. Andrew Weil writes, "is a dynamic and temporary state of equilibrium destined to break down as conditions change." In other words, there's no such thing as the type of health that allows you to feel equally great every day of your life. Instead, Weil suggests, your goal should be to improve your resilience to disease, and while you're at it, feel more joy and strength.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Lots of good advice presented systematically, some speculation too.
Overall, I think this is a very good book for someone who is trying to turn their health habits around, but is overwhelmed by all of the possibilities. It also a good track to run on for someone who wants to implement important life changes in an easy step-wise fashion. There is nothing fanatical about the recommendations and they can be easily implemented by almost anyone.
4-0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone, but a good place to start.
If there's one thing of critical significance that can be taken away from this book it is the importance of eating whole, nutritious foods free from chemicals and presevatives on a daily basis for the rest of your life. It means turning over a new leaf, making sacrifices and learning something new but if you are over 35 and need to improve your health this may just be the answer you're looking for (assuming from the outset you have no major health problems). While I found a few of Dr. Weil's suggestions to be out of my realm of practicality---fresh-cut flower arrangements every day, for instance----most of the other recommendations presented in the book are rather straight-forward and provide a simple strategy for getting back on the road to good eating and optimal health (like daliy walks, relaxed breathing and weekly breaks from news and current events). I had always loved foods like broccoli, ginger, garlic, sardines and olive oil so most of the dietary guidelines, for me,were easy to deploy. Dr. Weil instructs the reader to go to the pantry and throw away---that's right----throw away all of the bad, chemically-preserved foods in you pantry; canned soups, margerines, gravy mixes, bottled dressings, snacks, cakes, soft drinks, foods containing hydrogenated oils, aspartame, msg, dyes, etc. This is critical since it lays the foundation for good health in the coming weeks. Demanding that the reader abrubty cut off his supply of "comfort food" may

5-0 out of 5 stars The best to date on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Immune Deficiency Disease
It has been awhile since I first read this fine book, but I have not found anything else that comes even close to being as helpful. I keep going back to it for referral.

4-0 out of 5 stars A mixed bag, but generally useful
I would recommend this as a reference source and buying it. It contains very useful information in many areas, such as endocrine problems and yeast etc. I have a few reservations. It only dedicates 5 lines to toxicity and detoxification, which more or less tell you to buy someone else's book. For one of the major contributary factors of Chronic Fatigue in many people, this is not really acceptable. If you are going to write a book about CFS, you can't just leave out key factors. My other reservations about the book are that it tends to mention many rather severe treatments and pharmaceutical drugs where these should only really be used as a last resort if at all, as many natural equivalents are just as effective (e.g. candida control etc). Lastly, the book doesn't clearly differentiate enough between what the reader should do by themselves, and what they should leave to a specialist to really prescribe the right treatment for them. It reads like a list of supplements. Apart from that, it is quite good. A useful overview of CFS, including toxicity, can be found at health-spy dot com.

5-0 out of 5 stars An essential book for people with CFS
I consider this to be one of the best books on CFS ever written. After several years of getting nowhere with various treatments, this book turned my illness around.I'm still not fully recovered, but I have gotten much of my life back, which is priceless. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspirational but reasonable
I found this book to be very informative, inspirational, and do-able. Basically, you have to be open-minded to change with respect to diet and lifestyle. But nothing in this book requires drastic change, extreme work-outs, or pressure. On the contrary, Martina encourages readers to gradually adopt changes to your diet and physical activity levels for improved health and fitness. What inspired me to buy this book, as opposed to other work-out books, is Martina, herself.I am 46 years old and have struggled with being out of shape, feeling run down, and basically wanting a better and more healthier lifestyle for myself for awhile now.Martina is living proof that at any age you are never too old to feel better and to be the best you can be. I figure if she can do, so can I. Thanks Martina.

5-0 out of 5 stars Martina Rocks!
I love this book.I have been following her food program now for two weeks and the recipes are delicious!I'll admit that I am a vegetarian and was already into eating organic before I bought this book, so it was easier for me to adapt, but I have learned many new things and ways to enjoy vegetables and fruits. There has not been one single recipe that I haven't loved yet!
5-0 out of 5 stars 6STEPS WITH A CZECH
I loved this book.I found it interesting since I play tennis and am in my forties. Martina's stories and antidotes are amusing and very informative. I learned new exercises and some interesting recipes. She has inspired me to add more raw vegetables and fruits to my diet and to also shop for organic foods. I can't wait to try her recipe for Energy Balls. I would recommend this book for anyone who loves tennis or who is in their forties and wants to get in shape or stay in shape. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A great guide to getting out of a survival situation.
Unless something is wrong with you, your goal when thrust into a survival situation is to get out of it as fast as you can. That is the premise of this book. You won't find detailed instructions on building and using a fire bow. You won't find recomendations on the biggest, baddest knife. The one used in the book has about a 4 inch blade and retails for less than $20. You will find practicle suggestions for fire. You will also find suggestions on assembling a survival kit that's thorough but not enormous. There is scientific discussion on the human body's reaction to the environment. All of this is presented in a humorous style. The book focuses on preparation for a survival situation and how to get out of it. Not learning flint knapping, snare building, dead falls, etc. I found the book informative and easy to read. Those offended by the few cartoon characters should get a life.

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
5-0 out of 5 stars Like having a pediatrician in your pocket
I've looked at a lot of child care books as both an RN and a mother of three, and this is hands down my favorite.
5-0 out of 5 stars A LIFESAVER for new moms!
I had someone give me this book as a baby gift. And, let me say it was the best gift I received!! Julie, if you are out there - this has truly been a godsend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Depth, Breadth and Easy to Use
I sought out and read many books on menopause over the past five years, but none have been as readable, complete, and respectful to readers. The compelling personal stories resonate and create trust in the book's authoritative medical and non medical advice. Concise descriptions of even rare conditions depict the care that must have been taken to write this book. Unlike many menopause tomes, it does not talk down, preach, or prostelitize. This books offers alternative opinions on aspects of this important transition and gives women confidence to chart their own course.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great resource!
Very informative and up-to-date, and I really love the personal stories and anecdotes that run throughout the text. If you've got hot flashes, get this book! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Reference on obtaining and maintaining good health
Dr. Weil has a rare outlook that you wish all health practitioners had. Specifically, he tries to take the best from traditional and natural medicine to help patients get and stay well instead of picking one of the two sides and calling the other side evil.
5-0 out of 5 stars The bible for how to maintain optimum health and treat common ailments
This review is written by a former hospital administrator of just under 2 decades. I have been studying health and nutrition for more than decade. I became very interested in alternative medicine when a family member was diagnosed with kidney cancer and the allopathic doctors (traditional MD's) could give no reason for the tumor.
5-0 out of 5 stars Easy to Read Reference Book
I am very interested in medicine and the human body, especially non invasive methods of self-care. Dr. Weil has a very practical, personable manner and explains his reasoning well. He has some rather radical thoughts on chocolate, caffeine, and sex, but he presents these ideas about substance addiction and the effects on your body in such a rational way that you don't notice it's dramatic. I was also able to read this straight through, which is kind of amazing for a reference book.

This book is both very illuminating and comforting. There are options one would not likely have found elsewhere. It gives hope that there is indeed light at the end of this long, dark tunnel.Written in a down to earth, warm style the book is like a welcome letter from a close friend.I am anxious to get started on Awakening Through the Tears. ...
