Used this in medical school. Excellent resource. In my time google and yahoo were not around, so this was the quick source. now that [...] is around, not as necessary, but still valuable. There is a pediatric version as well.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great reference through the years
I have been using various iterations of Fitzpatrick throughout my 12 years of practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner. The organization, wealth of information, excellent photography (it really looks like what a provider sees in a person's skin!) all make it an invaluable reference. I am pleased to see the addition of more photography involving people of color, as upwards of 50% of the US population is now minority.

4-0 out of 5 stars Great reference
My preference overall in terms of derm texts is Habif, mostly due to organization, but this one comes in a close second.Lots of great pics and simple straightforward explanations (sometimes a little too simple). Also probably a great book for laypeople with some knowledge of medical terminology. ... I give quarterly supervisor training meetings with about 10 supervisors from our division. I use the activities in this book to help build communications and teamwork with the supervisors.

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Ideas
I selected this book in order to complete a required communications class assignment that I am presently enrolled in. The title of the book caught my attention. I am an Assessment Coordinator and I work with approximately 10 to 20 individuals at a time with a new group every three weeks. Several of the issues that I need to address that are a major concern with our clients are covered in Alanna Jone's book. These are issues dealing with self-esteem, communication, anger management, self discovery and coping skills. As instructors and parents we often find ourselves in situations where people are resistant to learning. The many reasons for this vary.

Dr. Weil has raised dispensing health advice to an art form. Instead of making his audience feel inadequate or guilty about bad habits, he seems to subconsciously convince readers to do better merely by presenting health facts in a non-threatening way. Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars You've got to read this book!
I received this book as a gift. There are quite a few books on this subject on the market and this one is the best. I too could not put it down and finished it in 3 days. It's a huge book, a great resource that is well researched and written.. I have a few friends who've purchased this book and really loved it too. I can highly recommend this book.
2-0 out of 5 stars Same info as before
There isn't anything new here unless you want to fall asleep reading about cheese and whisky.Dr. Weil gives examples of how some cheese's and whisky get better as they age as if this is supposed to correlate to people.I love Dr. Weil's other books and his website but I was disappointed by this book.If you want to read a good anti-aging book read Roy Walford's 120 year Diet.An excellent read.

1-0 out of 5 stars Don't Bother
Don't EVEN bother buying this book.If you can avoid the snores with all the medical mumbo-jumbo, maybe this book is for you.Bottom line is: don't fret about aging because it's going to happen to you and eat right, exercise and take your vitamins. So what else is new?

5-0 out of 5 stars Couldn't have done it without it!
I would recommend this to any nursing mother. I bought the book and had it memorized by the time my daughter came into this world. I had a lot of questions, and it always had the answers. I never had to go digging around for another book because it didn't have what was looking for.
5-0 out of 5 stars The BEST Nursing Book Out There!!
I received this book as a gift and it has been beside my bed for 6 months (ever since my daughter was born). It is great as a reference to look up answers to quick questions or concerns.I would also recommend reading this book from start to finish before baby arrives... I wish I had.I cannot say enough good things about Kathleen Huggins and her book!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Actual useful advice!
This book was by far the most useful nursing book I read (the others were the Sears book, the LLL book, and BF made simple). When I had a specific problem, this book actually gave a list of different things to do to try to resolve the problem - exactly what I wanted!-and there's always an accompanying discussion if you want know more.I would say this book is also the most clinical of the books, and I consider that a good thing.I (and I think most people who bother to buy a nursing book) know BF is a good choice before buying these books.I don't need a hard sell. This book simply lays out the facts in an easy to understand way.Highly recommended. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Should be Mandatory Reading
I feel this book should be on the "mandatory reading" list for all women - especially young women. Our society and most of our mothers have wholly failed at teaching us about this sacred subject! Whether you are trying to get pregnant, trying to prevent pregnancy, or neither of the above, this is a must read.I would add, that there is a lot of information in this book that men should know too.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this and got pregnant the first month!
I had no trouble conceiving my first child when I was 35 years old. When we tried for baby #2, however, I was 39 years old and after 6 months of fruitless efforts we were beginning to get frustrated. A friend recommended this book to me. I got the book and began charting my cycle using the methods in the book. BINGO! I got pregnant the very first month I charted. What I learned in the process, was that I was ovulating a full week later than normal, so while my husband and I were diligently trying to conceive in the early part of my cycle, up through the time I thought I would be ovulating, we were stopping our determined efforts a little too early. The month I started charting, we just kept on going (much to my husband's delight: )until the thermometer said we could stop. A couple of weeks later I discovered I was pregnant and now our daughter has a little brother!: )
5-0 out of 5 stars The Bible of Fertility
I bought this book with a bit of hesitancy due to the fact as a medical professional, I thought that I knew all there was to the female body. What I learned in this book challenged everything I thought I knew. When I have a daughter, I will definitely be holding onto this gem to pass along to her...

"The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" is a difficult book to rate. 1-0 out of 5 stars really irritating
I found this book annoying, boring, and wordy. It contains very little actual information about aging, exercise, or anything else, and the information that it does contain is nothing that most people don't already know anyway. Basically, it is one big motivational speech that promotes exercising for women, but the male author is patronizing, condascending, and sexist. He spends a lot of time convincing the reader that exercise is actually good for women and that it's OK for women to lift weights. He seems to assume that most women are reluctant to exercise and ignorant about exercise. For example, he says that women should join a gym instead of exercising on their own so that they don't hurt themselves and are sure to stick with the program. As a woman who has exercised consistently on my own for over 20 years (including a marathon and a triathlon) I found it insulting to say the least.

4-0 out of 5 stars Younger Next Year for Women
You could still tell a man wrote this book, however, it was excellent.Sure got my attention.I started implementing his suggestions right away.Actually, the book re-enforced what my doctor had been telling me, but hearing it from a book really made an impact.Guess I'm a slow learner.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nothing New, but.......
There isn't anything we don't already know we should doing in this book. And having said that, I do heartily recommend it.I love the chatty informality of the authors. The easy going style gets your attention and keeps it. Its like talking with old friends you haven't seen in a while. And that is one of the points in the book. You SHOULD keep in touch with old friends AND make new ones.So...after you've read this book, get off the couch and get going! It's never too late to start taking care of yourself!

5-0 out of 5 stars This will change your life!
As a nutritionist, I have often come across diet books, "health" books, and the like, and read most of them with a raised brow!I have to tell you that I could not put this book down!It makes so much sense!I have used the Fast Track One-Day Detox Diet with several clients and have seen dramatic results. If you are looking for a "real" solution to weight loss, this book will change your life!

5-0 out of 5 stars Fast Track got me on track
I completed The Fast Track program last spring and was very happy with the results. I lost weight and felt better and cleaner inside-thus the `detox' effects.
1-0 out of 5 stars Life Changing - but not in the way you might think...
I bought this book with the hopes that it would help me lose the last few stubborn pounds.I'll admit that some of the author's recommendations seemed a little radical, but I was willing to give it a try. So I faithfully gave up caffeine, ate the prescibed foods and avoided sugar, wheat, etc. etc. in preparation for the one day fast.I can honestly say that the one day fast was one of the WORST experiences of my life. I was starving, miserable, exhausted, cranky, and did have a revalation - but not the one the author promised.I realized once and for all that to lose weight, you simply need to eat enough good food to give you energy and exercise more often - not eat cups of raw parsley, brussel sprouts, cabbage, and nutritional yeast(which is revolting).I did lose 1.5 pounds during the fast, which I gained back in exactly one day - clearly just water weight. The author cautions against the dangers of EVERYTHING: Saran wrap, microwaves, teflon, unorganic spinach, plastic containers, etc. etc. If you would like to give up any pleasure that enjoying a good dinner with friends might give you, then by all means follow this plan. Otherwise, don't be fooled by quick fixes - they just don't work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kudos for Courage
Like it or not, human nature tends to box and label people, and unveiling mental illness carries a threat of permanent stigma.I applaud Dr. Jamison's courage in exposing her affliction with manic-depressive illness.Unlike many others who suffer from this disorder, she has survived, learned to cope and effectively manage medication; she has maintained her professional credibility and salvaged creativity.Yes, she's been fortunate, but by sharing her personal wisdom in AN UNQUIET MIND, Kay Redfield Jamison offers hope! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars WONDERFUL: Nuts and nolts for learning about yourself
Jon Kabat-Zinn helps even the most distressed of us learn about self-healing and self-nuturing. I am a physician and I recommend this to ALL of my chronic pain/depressed/anxious patients, and it has dramatically changed many of their lives.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great gift for a friend.
This book is a bitof a paradox. It is dead simple but quite complex all at the same time.I have utiised the program as detailed in the book in its most simple form.Follow the steps and see what happens. It is a great guide and it works and that is why I bought my most recent copy as a gift for a friend. However the basics are just the beginning. In very simple language this book gives you access to a new way of thinking about "you & the world" and a vast array of quality sources and peer reviewed references to support and elaborate on the ideas presented in the book. This book is the antithesis of most of the self help babble in the market place. It's the product of research, clinical experience, time and results. It's a great book that plots a simple path for those who need to find the space and time for centering their lives, once there, it gives them a framework and any number of directions that will enable them to anchor that tranquility in real time.

5-0 out of 5 stars A study and course in life
This is really a mini course in a book form on how to keep and get you life together. I have practice a lot of various faiths, that have helped my life. So this book has come at a point in life that has fit in quit well. It is a book which you have to take your time and work with. You should follow the exercises and reflecton what is being taught. I would recommend this book to anyone going through a crisis in life or trying to get back on tract after living through one. Do not pass it up. You will learn advice to pass on to friends as well. It is well written and easy to follow. This book is worth every bit of 5 stars. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars First we start with a mistake...
Having observed the healthcare industry for the last couple of decades, I would like to point out a flaw in the author's recommendations:
5-0 out of 5 stars the next 20 years, explained
Michael Porter, of value chain and competitive advantage fame, has taken on the US health care system.Your reviewer, who is speaking from inside the system, can guarantee that both his diagnosis and his proposed fix are bang on. In short, you bring the US healthcare system in line with other industries by making information about the outcomes of healthcare available to consumers, then letting them choose. How to get there from here takes up most of the book, and it is as brilliant and thoughtful as Porter fans have come to expect. Read this one.

5-0 out of 5 stars A sentinel work on healthcare reform
Michael Porter and Elizabeth Teisberg have presented a sentinel work in the field of healthcare management.American healthcare is capable of providing the very best skill, professional expertise, and technology the world has ever seen. What is failing in our healthcare system is the management and business organization required deliver value to the recipients of this expertise-- patients.

I really like the way this book is presented. It provides a really concise yet complete overview of the disabilities most commonly encountered.I also like the pages in the back of each chapter that give teaching strategies in respect to the disability discussed. I've come across alot of the same things that are mentioned in the book. This book is helpful to give the caregiver a different perspective on AD and it's nice to know that you're not alone in your struggles. It also reminds you that others have it worse than you do. I recommend this book for anyone who has elderly relatives, with the increased incidence of AD the chances are pretty good/bad that a relative will suffer from it. I think it's best to be prepared for the worst before it gets here. That way you'd have a start on what care would be required and how much you'll have to change your life to accomadate your aging relatives.

5-0 out of 5 stars Every Caregiver Should Read This Book
As the caregiver (daughter-in-law) of a 90 year old patient with dementia (vascular/multi-infact type), I found this book to be profoundly helpful in dealing with the day-to-day activities of caregiving. In short, I felt as if the authors had spent several weeks in our home and then written the book just for us!This is a MUST READ for any caregiver of a patient with Alzheimer's or other dementias. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Read the book before you review it
To those who think this book recommends ignorning a hungry child just because he ate 2 hours ago rather than the prescribed 3, I suggest you read the book a little more carefully. The feeding schedule is just a guideline, and the book does emphasize (in several places) that when your child is hungry, food should never be denied, hunger cues should never be ignored. Parents: read the book, then make up your mind on whether or not this technique is one you want to adopt. If you haven't read the book, keep your opinions to yourself. No one cares to know what you learned after doing a google search on the author. If the information in the book makes sense to you, and your pediatrician doesn't disagree, does it really matter in what subject the author earned his master's degree?

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't knock it until you've READ it.
This book is about setting boundaries for your child at a young age.I read the book in one sitting because it was fascinating and the next night after following the advice, my son slept for 9 hours (he was 4 months old).He hasconsitently been a very well behaved, happy, and well adjusted child.A routine, established boundaries, and yes... even discipline gives your child confidence (mommy actually knows what's up!!).I've met moms who thought babywise was "terrible" and "cruel", but interstingly enough not a single one of them had actually read the book... and guess what??The same babies that decided their own schedules turned into toddlers and children that ran the household. If you don't teach your kids the rules and boundaries, they will learn them the hard way; by testing you....
5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Book!
I love this book!My children are 17 months apart and I used Baby Wise for both of them. They were and are very happy confident children. They were not clingy because the schedule was consistent and they new what to expect.I was better at knowing their needs because of the schedule.I have always received compliments on their behavior and they are now Child Wise.:)I highly recommend this book!! ...
5-0 out of 5 stars If you want to live- read!
this book should not be read only be people who are obese and want to lose weight. this would also apply to those skinny people who can eat McD's and not gain an ounce.
5-0 out of 5 stars This way of eating makes perfect sense!
Bottom line, the more processed food and animal products that you eat, the more your health will suffer over time. Now you don't have to read the book. No, seriously, Dr Fuhrman dispels some of our long held beliefs in what our bodies need and crave. This is only a diet book in the sense that our diets should consist of a high concentration of certain types of foods....period.Not for a month or two and then back to the way we were eating before, but for the rest of our lives.Even if you incorporated some of the principles found in this book you would benefit. You will have to find a source of good quality fruits and veggies so you will enjoy eating them.I have been easing into this way of eating simply because I have a lot of things in my cupboards that I refuse to throw out and I have still lost 10 pounds in two weeks! And I'm only 20 pounds overweight.I'm not feeling starved either.

5-0 out of 5 stars Get rid of back pain - FOREVER
Hello All. I am 29 currently and I have had backpain on and off for over 9 years now. After a particularly nasty back spasm at the gym 2 years back ( where I could hardly walk), I was getting desparate. I looked at physiotherapy, and briefly at some other forms of exercise. I could not find lasting results anywhere and then I came across this book. It was god send. I read it in couple of hours flat. Re-read it next day. Thought a lot about what the author suggests are reasons behind the pain. It is generated from within and the cure also should come from within us. Anyone who thinks that cure CAN ONLY come fromoutside is going to be looking for a cure, the rest of their lives. I analyzed the book ( I am an engineer) and trusted the book.
5-0 out of 5 stars 5 years with back pain, no back pain for 6 years.
There I was, 18 years old, after exercising badly in the gym I developed back issues. An x-ray stated I had a back abnormality. For 5 years I had back pain, evey single day, mid to lower back pain. You know whats its like, the type thats always there.
5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Dr. Sarno is a true pioneer in regards to diagnosing and treating back pain and has made a tremendous contribution with his discovery of the mind/body connection for this condition. I did, however, as a number of reviewers have pointed out, after reading Healing Back Pain felt the need for additional steps.

5-0 out of 5 stars A first rate book
This is a superb book, and Dr. Bourne shows extreme insight, preception, and understanding in helping the anxious individual in today's stressful world. He seems to know me better than I know myself! I highly recommend it to anyone who has suffered with anxiety, panic, phobias, post-traumatic stress symptoms, and shyness. It will help you to get on with your life! His book will not be surpassed!
5-0 out of 5 stars Relief from stress and all kinds of anxiety
An excellent handbook, better than therapy because you know the quality of help you're getting, IMHO. You don't have to have full blown phobias to be helped by this, so don't be shy about delving in and relieving yourself from negative self talk, chronic stress, or any kind of avoidance.
